Highlighting the old way?
Why has the forum gone back to the old days in terms of highlighting text; where if I hold down ALT+SHIFT and use the arrow keys the text to the left and right continues to highlight, rather than to favour one end over the other.
I remember acclimatising to this feature when switching from Windows, it took some getting used to but I guess enough people complained and they switched it to the way Windows did things, that's how it is now. Not only does this old method work horizontally but vertically too and I was wondering if this felt a little inconsistent to users?
Hi, Hamper -
Beats me. I haven't used that method for well over a decade. I find it a whole lot easier and more natural to use the mouse (click and drag, or double-click for just one word) to select (highlight) text.

They changed the way we see our appointments. That's awful! Is there a way to chnage back to the "old" way when you could see all your appointments at a glance????
Maybe I'm fool, but how I get the "day view"? I have three options on the top line, an icon that seems a computer (a square and two lines), a magnifying glass to search a especific item and a "plus" to add appointments. The "day view" isn't any more there - that's the point!!! Using the first icon a get the full month-that uses 2/3 of the screen- and two lines of appointments...To see the rest I have to slide up and down the two lines taking care to not touch the month...

When I go into iTunes (the latest update) now, it takes over the entire screen is difficult to remove. Is there a setting I can change in it to have it behave the old way?
I presume you are runnning iTunes on either an OS X 10.7 or OS X 10.8 system. Move the cursor to the very top of the screen so that the menu bar appears, then click the blue box with the arrows at the very right corner of the menu bar, or press Shift-Command-F. That will switch iTunes back to a normal window, which it should then remember for future launches.

I just updated to ios 7 on my iPhone 4 how do you turn the apps off when your not using them? The old way of double clicking and then pressing the app until a red minus button comes doesn't work it opens it back up!?
Double click home button, then swipe up on app picture (not the icon itself)

my navigation bar url area almost always shows "go to this website" instead of the page i am on. can i get the old way back...???
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
*https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

How do I stop the running of programs in the background? The old way of doing it doesn't work now.
How to Close Apps
Double Tap the Home Button... Then swipe the App (not the icon) Upwards... Tap the Home Button when finished.

Why dont you take ios 7 and take out a feature so the ipod 4 can have enough space to take it I suggest when you touch your screen and the keyboard appears and make the old way.
We're all users like yourself, if you would like to leave feedback to Apple go to Contact Us at the bottom of this page then go to Feedback and leave your concern. iOS 7 requires 512MB of RAM. Only the iPod 5 has 512MB RAM. The iPod 4 only has 256MB RAM. Hope this helps, Good luck.

How to type accents on letters (the old way)
Typing accents on letters (á, ë and ø) is handy on Yosemite if you just needs 2 or 3. If you have to type a French text it's a ****. It's slowing down typing big time.
Is there a way to get the old way or Windows way back? That is: typing a ' and an a for á and " followed by an e for ë.iAmRenzo wrote:

Yes, go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and use the plus and add buttons to activate the keyboard called US International PC. Then choose that in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen. -
How do I close programs with IOS 7? The old way of closing programs by double tapping on the button, holding down an icon until it started shaking and a red X appears does not work. Every program I opened appears. Turning on and off the phone does nopt work.
I just found out. Above the icon is a copy of the open page of the program(s). You slide the pages up to close.

Yahoo is my homepage, I have been using Firefox for years but when I downloaded Firefox 4 my yahoo email was on the right in place of page options and I liked it better, it was there for a while but now it has gone back to the old way on the left, why is this
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -
how do I now close apps the old way of double clicking Siri button and touching the app no longer works
There isn't currently a way to edit or control which apps appear in the 'open in' list apart from deleting (or deleting and reinstalling) apps - you could try leaving feedback and maybe in the future we'll have some sort of control : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Get GoLive to code the old way.
I recently tried using GoLive 9 to modify table cells and also the background color of the page. GoLive 9 now does this with a style setting in the header of the page. I don't want this type of coding, I need GoLive 9 to modify the cells in my tables the old HTML way and the background color with the controls in the BODY tag. Is there a setting to tell GoLive 9 to code like CS2 somewhere?
Nope, that is how the new GL functions, there is no way to turn it off. There is an action available that will strip it out once it is created though...

IMHO, if you have it still, going back to CS2 would be better for your blood pressure. You are going run into all kinds of "what the @$%#!" situations with GL 9. -
In OS X Mavericks, an I change Bookmark back to the old way of saving them?
In OS X Mavericks, when I save a bookmark, it goes "somplace" (not sure where) in the sidebar.
I want the old drop-down menu so I can select where the bookmark is saved.Isn't that you asking how to get it (undefined) back?
If you never had Pages '09, you can buy it from Amazon very cheaply:

Ken burns cropping in iMovie 9.09 changed with mavericks update. Cant zoom in to a small area....it limits the size now. How do i get back to the old way
These timezone definition changes are fairly common, when viewed world-wide.
For notifying Apple, contact the folks at the Apple Support Center or (if you have access) log a bug report. (The folks at Apple might or might not notice any postings made here.)
For the immediate case, updating the timezones yourself is straightforward; the sequence is basically the same on Linux, OS X, Unix and even OpenVMS. Ugly, but it works. (The US folks got to see this mess first-hand a few years ago, but there are other locations that see these sorts of timezone definition changes far more often.)
For those following along that aren't familiar with this sequence, this old posting should get you close when rebuilding your definitions, though the timezone database has moved to IANA.
