Highpoint Rocket Raid and KT3 ARU Board.

Hi,
I finally cracked and figured I'll just install the Highpoint Card Rocket Raid 404. The results even with Full modded raid bios on this board is horrible. I'll install it in a week or two and reinstall XP Pro.
See ya
Lee

Hi,
Don't expect that card to be much better....
WindowsNT/2000/XP have problems with speed on SCSI type cards.
As these RAID controllers, yes the IDE ones too, are threated like SCSI controllers, the performance can be terrible.
Do a search on the MS Knowlage base on SCSI...

  • MSI KT3 ARU Problem

    Hi,
i've just got my KT3 ARU Board with a AMD XP 2000+ CPU, 256 MB Samsung CL 2.5 and a Enermax 431 W Powersupply. My Problem is that after starting the Computer the D-LEDs don't go further than the part where it checks the memory. The System just goes completly off. I have changed the memory slot, but i think the memory stick is broken. Am I right or is there anything else that can be wrong?
    Thanks,

If there's no contact between the CPU core and the heatsink, there's no heat transfer either! Be carefull, you could burn your CPU. You should fix this problem first and your system will probably boot and work fine.

  • Aarrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!! Kt3 Aru Raid Bother!!

Hi all, ok here goes. I have just installed a new 120gb Western Digital Caviar 8mb cache HDD into my system to match the one I already have. The idea was to configure a security array with the new drive on my KT3 Ultra ARU Mobo. I read all the instructions that came with the board regarding RAID, and made sure that installed the ATA133 Raid Driver onto my origional drive before connecting it to IDE3. With my new identical drive connected to IDE4 and Raid enabled in bios, I continued to follow the instructions and set up a MIRROR array. All went according to plan, and after the drive had been cloned on to the new one i restarted the system as instructed. Now, according to what I have read that should have been the end of it? yes/no? Because my system wouldnt boot, and if I went into the Fastbuild Utility neither of the drives in the array had a * infront of their listing, so in effect I had no bootable drive.  So, I adjusted the jumper on my origional drive on IDE3 to Master, leaving the other on CS - as neither drive would get recognised on anything other than CS - thinking that maybe it would use that drive as the bootable one, but since then it says the drive is unplugged and or failed, even if i return the jumper to cs to match its partner. That particular drive fully operational, as I have for the time being returned it to IDE1, and all is fine.  OK, so as you can tell, I have got a bit lost here, all was going as per, up until the point of restarting after the initial file copying stage of the operation. Any pointers would be very greatfully recieved. Thanks in advance.
    System specs....

Ok, so I have rechecked all my connections etc, but when I start the system it says that my origional drive (IDE3) is faulty or not connected. I have rechecked all connections and the drive runs perfectly. Is it possible that my IDE3 connector on my mobo has gone down? I tried to rebuild the array, but the only drive that it shows operational is the one on IDE3??? Why am I being told at one point that the drive is not connected/faulty, and yet it seems that the fastbuild utility IS seeing it? Anyway, what do I need to do to start afresh, format my additional drive and then begin again? At the moment I cant get any further than the system telling me that there is a problem with a drive that doesn't have a problem.  !!!!! Don't you just love PC's

  • VIA K8T800 RAID and Highpoint RocketRAID 1540 PCI card

I've had this old HighPoint SATA RocketRAID 1540 PCI card sitting around for awhile now and I thought I would maybe use it to beef up my system. I am currently running a RAID striping array with a pair of WD 74GB Raptors via the K8T800 chipset (no pun intended) on my MSI K8T Master2-FAR workstation and a pair of 80GB Western Digital drives (separate partitions) that I currently use for storing raw data/projects that can be used to rebuild my system in the event of an OS crash (striping array is a bit more risky so I like having this around). My idea is that I would put the WD 80GB drives on a mirroring array and use them for data storage. The catch is that this coming week I am going to reformat and install a dual WinXP/SuSE boot partition on my Raptor striping array, and I will need to make sure that the mirror'd backup drive is accessible by both WinXP and Linux.
Has anyone out there ever tried anything remotely like this?
    Thanks!

I assume this Highpoint has it's own RAID-BIOS?
If it does, you could be in trouble, the K8T-Master isn't very happy with controllers that use 2 instances of a controller.
I have tried to get a lot of SCSI Raid controllers working, but no luck, they are the same pricipe.
    I tested:
Ami MegaRaid 1600 Elite, windows saw it, but wasn't useable.
Adaptec (forgot the model very old one), board refused to even boot.
IBM Raid (very old as well) would boot, drivers would not install.
Several other have seen the same problems, it has to do with the INT19 (software IRQ) where the controller needs to hook into.
(At least I came to that conclusion)
It doesn't hook into that, but the controller does show up, but can't use the RAID-Processor/BIOS for anything.
A normal SCSI controller like the Adaptec 2940 or such are no problem, but they only use 1 instance.
The difference between a RAID and Non raid controller is that the Non-Raid uses only 1 IRQ and Address, RAID (intelligent ones) use 2 IRQ's and 2 Addresses, and for some reason, the Mobo's BIOS doesn't want to hook both during boot.
In Windows the drivers will load, sometimes, but when you try to access it, Windows is not able to communicate with the Raid-CPU and all sorts of nast things happen, if you even get that far.

  • On-board RAID and PCI RAID controller

    Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum. So, please excuse me if that topic was already covered...
I have MSI MAX2-LR (MS-6398E) board. It works just fine, no problem so far. Though I have 2 problems with add-on cards:
    1.  I was planning to use on-board RAID and additional PCI RAID controller = FastTrack 100 TX2 to cover 6 hard drives into 2 mirrored sets: 4drives one and 2 drives the other.
It doesn't work! I can use either on-board RAID or PCI RAID. As soon as I have any drive connected to on-board RAID, the PCI RAID disappeares. If I have no drives connected to on-board RAID, I can see both RAID controllers, they have different I/O and IRQs, and PCI RAID is working just fine. If only I connect one drive to the on-board RAID, it gets activated on startup, and the other one disappeares. :O
I believe it's a BIOS bug. I wander, if that can be fixed easily????? :D
    2. I have a new Matrox Video card = Parhelia. It doesn't work in AGP slot! System doesn't recognize it, and beeps non-stop. I am dealing with Matrox Tech Support on that matter.  ?(
Maybe, it's a known issue, and somebody can save me time by telling what's that about.
Appreciate any imput. Have a great weekend.!!! :]

Hey I also have the same Raid card and also the Matrox Parhelia, and I see that you also have some problems with the card I got also problems with the card, but they couldnt help me at theire forums (http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/Forum10/HTML/005085.html), I hope we have got more luck here  :D

  • KT3-ARU MAX MEMORY

I have been using KT3-ARU with an XP-2000 unlocked at 166-166 mem. for about 6 months now and its been extremely stable. I'm using 512 of samsung PC-2700 at cas. 2. I would like to add more like another 512. Has anyone used two sticks of double sided memory on this board? I need this for Photoshop. I may have to upgrade if this is not possible. Thanks.

I am currently running three sticks of Samsung in my comp right now, 2x256 and 1x512 all are double sided.

  • K9A2 Platinum Cannot Use RAID and PCI IDE card [SOLVED]

    Hello,
I am trying to do the following set-up on my K9A2 Platinum, using a Phenom 9600 processor:
    - 2xSATA2 250GB Seagate drives on Promise T3 SATA controller (to be used as RAID 1 devices)
    - 1xSATA DVD-RW on Sb600
    - 2xIDE DVD-RW on onboard IDE
    - One PCI HiPoint RocketRAID ATA100 card (operating in IDE mode) on PCI slot 2 with 1xIDE 40GB hard disk (my Linux partition)
On the BIOS I have enabled the Extra RAID function, in order to enable Promise to work as RAID.
    The system POSTs as follows:
    - Initial detection (CPU, RAM e.tc)
    - RocketRAID gets initialized and detects the IDE disk attached (40GB)
    - Promise RAID tries to detect the disks (the RAID array) and the whole system hangs.
I've tried to relocate the two SATA hard disks to the SB600 controller (SATA 1&2 ports), but the same thing happens (after changing the BIOS to disable extra RAID function and enable RAID mode on onboard SATA SB600). The only way to POST the machine, is to remove the RocketRAID PCI card, but this way I can no longer boot my Linux disk.
Using BIOS 1.2 and 1.3beta 2 (sent to me by MSI support).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the replies.
Now, I'm going to surprise you: I managed to make both cards (the Promise and HighPoint) work together! Read how...
Somehow, I got the impression that the problems I had were either caused by the BIOS or the hard disks (the SATA ones). I flashed the motherboard back to the official 1.2, doing a complete BIOS reset (removed the battery) and tried again without the RocketRAID card installed. This time, the Promise BIOS (which btw is an earlier version from the one the 1.3b2 BIOS had) reported that the one SATA drive was malfunctioning (and it was a sealed brand-new Seagate). Removed the drive, installed it on SB600 and SeaTools indeed reported that it was failing (it didn't manage to pass even the quick test...).
Now I was curious: could it be that this - together with the beta BIOS - was the cause of my problems? I installed the other SATA disk to Promise T3 (the red socket) and the controller detected it, but all I could do is to set it up as a RAID 0 array (which pretty much does nothing). Next, I installed the RocketRAID also together with the IDE Linux disk and the system detected both disks; I can boot Linux fine and enter both the RocketRAID BIOS and Promise T3 BIOS. I can delete and recreate the array in Promise T3 as I please, but due to the fact that I only have one SATA disk now, I get limited options (RAID 0 and JBOD).
Is it safe to assume that since the Promise BIOS is working with the RocketRAID installed, that my SATA RAID controller is working?
Tomorrow, I shall return the SATA drive to the store I bought it and get a replacement, so that I can set up my RAID 1.
The plan is to have Linux boot from the IDE (I've never managed to set up a Linux disk to boot from RAID) where Windows Server 2003 will boot from RAID.
Will keep you posted about the progress I make.
BTW Bas, I'm sorry I couldn't make out much of your brainstorming
Regarding the Promise controller: the board has a Promise chip right above the SATA ports, which has the number 42819 on it. I can also verify that both SB600 RAID and Promise T3 RAID have EXACTLY the same BIOS menu interface (the only differences are the texts "ATi SB600" and "Promise T3" on the menus, plus that the SB600 has also an option to securely erase the drives which Promise does not have). Are you suggesting that the SB600 RAID is actually the Promise T3? I do not know if it would be possible to have BOTH RAID controllers (SB600 and T3) working at the same time (I do not have enough disks to try...).

  • General HELP for RAID and HOME NETWORK... I'm a bit lost :(

First off, I'm sorry about the long post but I just wanted to ask everything at once since I don't know what effects what?
Over the past years I've had a MBP and have always added Western Digital Mybook drives whenever I needed storage. One of clicked and died this past year and I lost some data since I was "MANUALLY" backing up. Since then I've tried to read about RAID, NAS, and DROBO type devices.
I recently bought a Mac Pro 2008 edition because I needed more speed. I mainly edit wedding photos in Lightroom but also come from a heavy motion graphics background and do some After Effects projects from time to time.
Here's a list of my current setup and what I'm hoping to achieve but I'm in over my head of what to do???
1 Mac Pro (2008 edition) - I'm considering setting up 4 1TB harddrives inside that are mirrored. I was looking at the Caviar Black or Hitachi drives...
    2. I have two Airport Extreme Base Stations for my home network. (One is plugged into my Mac Pro and the other is near my Vizio LCD and Xbox 360. I've been toying around with sharing iPhoto slideshows (which I really like the idea of) The problem is that it seems really slow for video and hiccups on the stills sometimes. It doesn't seem to make a difference if it's pulling it from the Mac Pro or from a USB drive attached directly to my Airport Extreme. How do I speed this up? Is it always going to be faster to stream from the Mac Pro over ethernet cable than a harddrive plugged in through USB?
    3. A few RAID and NAS solutions I've been looking at are the following but I don't really understand what I get with an external device vs an internal? I also don't know which is BETTER? for easy reliable backup.

    http://www.synology.com/enu/products/CS407/index.php
    4. I've been reading mixed reviews about the Drobo but don't quite understand if it's a better solution then setting up a mirror INSIDE my Mac Pro. I DO NOT want to buy a $900 raid card for the Mac Pro though. Do most people choose the Drobo because they only have laptops? Should I only consider building something inside my Mac Pro?
    5. I was considering Chonosync for backing up 3rd level backups
    6. I just bought a Blu-Ray drive for 4th level backups that I can send off site.
    7. I have all these other Mybooks. Two of them are mirrored but only one is a 1TBx2 Sata drive. The rest are IDE. I guess I'll just use these for misc things? Maybe just plug one into the Xbox for watching movies?
    8. My neighbor down the hall has a similar setup and is using a Mac Mini to stream things (through Front Row) like Hulu and videos another room to his TV. Mine doesn't seem to stream fast enough. Since I have the MBP that I will use rarely since I got my desktop I was considering using that instead of Apple TV or a Mac Mini but it's too slow? Maybe I set it up wrong?
PLEASE HELP? I don't know what I'm doing.

A few RAID and NAS solutions I've been looking at are the following but I don't really understand what I get with an external device vs an internal? I also don't know which is BETTER? for easy reliable backup.
    Hi,
For backup, video work, photography and expanding the Mac Pro storage capability the FirmTek SeriTek/5PM would be my choice. The bundle that you pointed to will work if 130MB/sec. is fastest enogh for your needs. The card is only $70 in the bundle which makes it a nice deal.
    http://firmtek.stores.yahoo.net/sata5pm2se2.html
If you want 200MB/sec, performance I would go with the Sonnet Tempo E4P or the HighPoint RR 2314 if you desire RAID 5 redundancy.
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/sonnet/mac-pro/
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/highpoint/2314/
Trying to use NAS via the network will be 3-7x slower than the SeriTek/5PM. The SeriTek/5PM is a much better choice for backup, video and photography. NAS is good for low energy, always on, low use server needs. However, you can simply turn Mac OS X file sharing on and the Mac Pro will provide performance faster than any NAS.
Drobo - Why do people even consider this option?
The performance is USB speed even with a FW800 connection.
Users have reported losing data with firmware updates.
And the unit is one of the most expensive, slow performing options available. I cannot image ever wanting a Drobo
    Backup Software:
I like SuperDuper. I also like using the "Restore" tab in Disk Utility to clone one disk to another. The key to good backup is to keep it simple and regular.
    MyBook - NOT
If your storage needs exceed more than a single FireWire backup disk you really need to go with eSATA. The SeriTek/5PM and the Mac Pro combination provides virtually unlimited storage capabilities as the tray system allows new hard disk sets to be easily loaded or dismounted.
    Have fun!

  • High Point Rocket Raid 622 Does Not Show Up

I am tryng to get a HP Rocket Raid 622 to show up on a 2009 Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz macine. I recently removed a 622 card, which was working fine, that had come with a Sas Digital RAID 5 enclosuer. I sold the enclosure and with it, the RR 622 that was inclueded. I purchased a new 622 and that unit will not show up in my system. I'm running Mac OS 10.6 which is supposed to recognize the card without drivers. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thank you.

The version I have includes directions for Mac but does not specify Mac on the packaging. It is not clear that there are two versions and I didn't realize that was a possibility until now. Are you saying that there is a Mac version and a non-Mac version?

  • Option RAID and ICH model [SOLVED]

Hello, I ‘d like to know a version of the option RAID and ICH model.
I bought G45M-FIDR (G45M must be original board) first MSI board because PS2 mouse and keyboard IO are convenient for my KVM.
To build the RAID1 system, I set RAID mode of the system BIOS to RAID.
After reboot, press CTRL+I then "Intel Matrix Storage manager option ROM v7.5.0.1017 ICH9R wRAID5" appeared on the screen.
The chipset of the board must be ICH10R???
In Appendix Intel ICH10R SATA RAID of MSI manual G45 series MS-7521 (V1.X) Main board, I could read "Intel Matrix Storage manager option ROM v8.5.0.1013 ICH10R wRAID5" on the sample screen.
Both 7521v11 and 7521v14 BIOS down loaded from MSI global site and installed, but ICH9R appeared.
Please advise of a modification or some information.

    Hello Sunaken,
the ICH9R and ICH10R controllers are very similar.  As it looks, only the firmware version is a little out of date (that is why it shows ICH9R instead of ICH10R). However, this does not mean that you actually have an ICH9R Chipset on a board that is supposed to have an ICH10R Southbridge.  In terms of functionality, this should not really matter,

Both 7521v11 and 7521v14 BIOS down loaded from MSI global site and installed, but ICH9R appeared.
There is a BIOS Update available that includes an Update of the firmware version.  The release is called A7521IMS.151 [v1.5b1] and was released on 04/17/2009.  This is the changelog:
    - Update RAID ROM to Version 8.8.0.1009.

I ran a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP for 3 months on the KT3 Ultra and it ran like a champ. No need to worry about AGP voltage because the V5 gets the majority of it's power externally from your power supply. Just be sure you have the 4-pin molex connector from your power supply plugged into your V5 when you install it and all will be fine. 3DFX was certainly thinking forward with their inplementation of the external power connector on the V5.
