Highspeed Internet Enhanced - slow as un-Enhanced

I have been a Verizon DSL customer for years. At first the line speed was not to bad (much better than 56kb dialup). But as years passed, the line speed got slower and slower. Now I experience time-outs when moving from one screen to another on the same web site, including the Verizon web sites. I have timed the movement between screens and found it takes 30 seconds+ for most movements. I switched from the regular High Speed to the Enhanced and did not notice any improvement. I get the advertisements for FIOS each time I log into Verizon. I have been waiting for 3 years for the FIOS to be offer in my area. If Verizon cannot offer what they advertise, they should quit advertising until the service is available.
I am seriously considering going to Cox for my phone and DSL services. Many of my neighbors have and say it is much better.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

    2 ash-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.70.241) 39 ms 7 ms 7 ms
    3 TenGigE0-2-0-0.GW1.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.125.125.41) 4 ms 4 ms GigabitEthernet2-0-0.GW8.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.65.76.189) 4 ms
    4 so-7-1-0-0.PHIL-CORE-RTR1.verizon-gni.net (130.81.20.137) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
    5 P3-0-0.PHIL-DSL-RTR11.verizon-gni.net (130.81.13.170) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
    6 static-71-242-*-*.phlapa.east.verizon.net (71.242.*.*) 32 ms 32 ms 33 ms
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • Slow FIOS highspeed internet

I called twice to report that my internet was slow. After running a few speed checks the first tech said I might need another router if it continued. It did so I called again. This tech ran a speed check and when it came up slow he had me run it with a Verizon speed check were the results were much faster. He said it was my desktop computer. But I tried to explain that the problem was also happening on my son's laptop, the PS 3 which is hardwired to the router and my TV that has wireless. He couldn't get off the phone fast enough after that saying there was nothing more he could do. I upgraded to a faster speed when I renewed my bundle and since then it hasn't been as good. Not sure what to do.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I upgraded my bundle and now my wireless speed in the house is between 3 and 12 mbps rather than the 50/25 promised. I called and the tech also had me run the Verizon speed test, which maxed out at 12. He said my computer needed to be optimized and afterward the speed test should be a couple of points higher. A couple of points!? Then, to my dismay the new digital voice line went dead. No dial tone. Insult upon injury.
After my own research I have concluded that I have to buy a new router. Now, the trick is to find out how to swap routers and install. I think Verizon should have made the router requirement clear when they sold the bundle and further, assisted with the hardware upgrade.
If you have learned anything new about how to solve this problem, please reply. Many thanks.

  • My internet has slowed down, other macs in the household seem to be fine.

I have had no problems with my macbook air but for the last few days the internet has slowed right down but this does not seem to be a problem for other members of the household using the same wireless internet. They mostly have Macbook Pro's.Any thoughts?

  • How can an external drive cause my Internet to slow to a crawl and then fail?

I have two WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB USB 3 new drives. One I'm using for Time Machine and one for CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner). I have been trying to use them with my new MacBook Pro retina 13-inch.
For the last few days I've had weird problems trying to connect them via a USB 3 hub. I though the hub was the problem (because things seemed to be fine until I introduced a hub into the equation) and already returned one.
But now I see the same thing happening even without the hub.
It appears that one drive, when connected to a USB 3 port (it doesn't matter which port), even when it's doing nothing (I erased and and removed the CCC task), causes the Internet to slow to a crawl, and then stop. All connectivity ceases.
The instant I unmount and remove the drive the Internet springs back to normal speeds - over wifi about 110 Mbps.
Disk Utility says there are no problems with the disk. So does WD's only diagnostic utility. And the firmware is up-to-date.
The other disk, running Time Machine, seems to have no issues at all.
I guess I will return this drive. It could be subtly defective in some way. But what way? Why would an external USB 3 drive affect the Internet connectivity?

I came across this post while in search of the answer to the very same question only I am experiencing this problem when connecting to a USB 3.0 hub and nothing else.  The resuling slowdown in my internet speed leaves me hanging intermittently between screens in Safari, sometimes indefinitely.  When I remove the USB cable, normal speeds resume.  Activity Monitor shows no undue load on the CPU.  I did not notice this problem until just recently.  Could this have something to do with the recent OSX patch.
BTW: I am running a 2012 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Anybody have a clue as to what might be going on here?

  • HT5730 After I installed 10.8.48.4 Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection.  How can I get back to normal operating speed?

After I installed 10.8.4, my Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection -- unless it froze up completely.  How do I get my system back to a normal operating mode?  Can I dump 10.8.4 and go back to the one that at least worked?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.
    1. Have you restarted your router and broadband modem since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they also slow?
    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they also slow?
    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it slow there too?
    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

When I connect all three to the Uverse everything works well. When I connect any one to the AirPort it is very slow. It worked fine with the old OS but not with the new OS. Is look like problem is with the AirPort Extreme and the new OS.

  • Creating Enhancement Implementation for the  Enhancement spot in ECC 6.0

    Hi All,
I have an urgent requirement of creating an Enhancement implementation for the existing Enhancement Spot in ECC 6.0 ..
I never worked on enhancement in ECC 6.0.
There is an existing enhancement spot called "ES_SAPLIQS0" in the package " IWOC". which has got three existing implementations
    1. DI_ROT_SAPLIQS0
    2. ISU_SAPLIQS0
    3. DIMP_GENERAL_SAPLIQS0
I need to create another implementation for the same enhancement spot.. Please let me know the detailed procedure to create the enhancement implementation for the same spot..
    Thanks-
    Shrikant
    useful answers will be rewarded.

First of all find out the include program where you want to write the logic.. Click the spiral button to go to enhancement mode.. then click on Edit > Enhancement operations> Show implicit enhancement points.
This will hightlight all the enhancement points in your include program. Right click on exact enhancement point and select Enhancement Implementations --> Create,, It should give you the same Enhancement spot you are talking about. select that and write the code.. This code will be automatically appear in the same enhancement spot. You can see one more Enhancement implementation in the same Enhancement spot from the transaction code se19.
Hope my explanation is clear, if you have any doubts, send me a mail at [email protected]
    All the best.

  • Internet is Slowing Down

Ok, look I know that there are some very informed computer techs here. That is why I came here to the Apple forums,,And what I want is the truth. Yes I want you to cough up the truth one of you tecchies out there who are familiar with what exactly in the 9e11 is going on here? The INTERNET has slowed down all accross the U.S.A.
I have tried with a reformatted Apple with 10.4.9 ,,,A fresh new PC, a Mac book at my friends Look, it does not matter where I go. The internet has slowwed down. I have ATT with the DSL Elite Package and when I do a speed test it says 5.3 Mbps. or so. But in real life is runs like 750 Kbps. Here I live in the North Bay Area, Napa Valley. So I am close to the main hubs in San Jose and San Fran.
So what gives? What is going on?
Ok now here is the deal, I clearly remember ripping fast speeds for YouTube and all those sites and stuff would download FAST! Now since about 2006 it has been rapidly slowing down. It seems that the bandwidth testers are not giving a true speedtest. I think the speedtesting system has been hacked or they are all unified in decieving everyone. I am not being fooled anymore. The internet has slowed down. Way down.

Of course you go to check your speed and "they" devote all resources to make it look good!
While I'm on Dial-up, my GF of 32 year has Comcast with it's bloated speeds & further boated "Burst" speeds, which last about the 1st KB, LOL.
I am not being fooled anymore. The internet has slowed down. Way down.
It's not your Internet anymore, It's Sell, Sell, Sell, even if we have to use inefficient Flash Code, or Proprietary MS code... give 'em a break, Billions of income is no good if you can't turn it into trillions overnight!
    Still...
Use Firefox with several of it's great Add-ons, and Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.

  • Internet connection slows down after a while

I have a wrt160n connected to an arris cable modem.  When I set it up it works fine - after a period of hours the internet connection slows down a lot.  If I then connect my computer directly to the modem it is is fast again.  But to get the signal to the router working fast again I have to reset the modem and power cycle the router.  Is there a conflict - is my router rationing access or what?

You should download and upgrade/flash your router's firmware...
    Download the Firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1350 and click Save Settings...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • DSL Highspeed Internet Disconnects same time everyday.

Hello, I have DSL Highspeed Internet with a D90-327W15-06 modem. I have a computer that uses a wire that connects to the modem through the ethernet slot as well as laptops that use Wifi.My internet ALWAYS disconnects 2:27 P.M EVERYDAY. I've called Verizon about this and they said they had to personally come and look at my modem/wires etc. I rejected the offer because .. well I don't really have the time and it would be inconvenient. I was wondering if this was a problem on my side of Verizon's fault and is there anyway to fix it? For example; would better placement of the modem or getting a new modem fix this?

It is hard to say what it is exactly.  Some isolation steps would be to see if it happens to all computers.  What do the lights on the DSL Modem do when it is down?  How long has it been going on?   Once we have the answer to a few those I may be able to further isolate it.

  • Internet speed slows down when connected via airport express

Internet speed slows down when connecting via airport express. When connecting directly via the timecapsulethe internet speed is ok, when connecting via the airport express the speed slows down. What can I do to change that? Any suggestions?

Turn off the AirPort Express completely as a test, and move your computer very close to the location of the Express.
As I said before, the Express can only extend the bandwidth (speed) that it receives from the Time Capsule, so the speed that you see there with the Express powered off will be the fastest speed of which the Express is capable.
The Express will make the signal go further when it extends....but it will not make the signal go faster.
A good location for a device that extends wirelessly is a point that is about half the distance from the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you locate the AirPort Express too far from the Time Capsule or there are more than a couple of walls in the signal path, the signal will be very slow by the time that it reaches the Express....and the Express simply extends a signal that has already slowed down significantly.
If you already have the Express located about half the distance between the Time Capsule and general area that needs more wireless coverage, how many walls, ceilings or other obstructions are there in the signal path between the Time Capsule, the AirPort Express and the area that needs more coverage?
Often, due to obstructions, it is just not possible to achieve good performance when you try to extend a network wirelessly. The solution is connect the AirPort Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
There is virtually no signal loss with this type of connection, so the Express can be located exactly where it is needed and it will produce a much faster wireless signal in this type of setup.
