HighSpeedInternet Enhanced - Upgrading from 3 Mbps to 7 Mbps

Hi,
I currently have High Speed Internet Enhanced plan, which I'm paying 49.99/month for. My download/upload speed is 3355 Kbps / 864 Kbps, and I recently found out that my DSL line can handle up to 7 Mbps download speed.
Would  there be any cost/charge, if I ask to upgrade my DSL line from 3 Mbps to 7 Mbps? And how much I would be paying each month for 7 Mbps?
Thanks,
Tony

The 7Mbps plan costs just as much as the 3Mbps plan. They are same package, but are different provisioning rates. Unless you are on some really old grandfathered plan, the price should be the same.

The first to bring me 1Gbps Fiber for $30/m wins!

  • Syncing iTunes to ATV after upgrading from 15 to 17" MBP??

    Hi there,
Just lit off my brand new 17" MBP this afternoon (woot!) and did a restore from a Time Machine backup. All my iTunes music and movies were recovered and working fine, but iTunes does not see my ATV.
How do I go about syncing the new MBP with ATV without having to delete the association between my old MBP and ATV (ATV warns that everything will be deleted) and then syncing all over again with the new MBP?
Right now, the libraries on both MBPs and the ATV are identical.
    ANy ideas?

i don't think you can. TV can sync with only one (primary or syncing) library, however, it will accept streaming from upto four additional secondary (or streaming only) libraries.
you will have to break the link to the old Mac and pair TV with the new one if you want the new one to be the primary (syncing) lib.
if you temporarily connect the 17" to TV with an ethernet cable, populating the device with content will be very quick.

  • Performance Recommendations for Upgrade from 2009 MBP

i am looking to upgrade from a 13" 2009 MBP which I am using to run Parallels 7 (among other things) and which i have not been happy with performance-wise. I went ahead and put a full 8 GB of RAM in it and still too many hangs and delays. I am however pretty happy with my old Mac Pro.
Can anyone help me with recommendations on buying a new laptop? I mean, I don't really see myself running computationally intensive operations and this thing is pretty much a drag.
Also, battery life is 3 hours with it just sitting there with no apps running which means when i use it I am under 2 hours and that just seems inexusable to me.
    TIA

  • I can't sync iCal from my Mac (MBP) to my iPhone.  I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and I think that's when my iCal stopped syncing from MBP to iPhone.  Help please!

Does anyone know how or correct this problem?  Before the Mountain Lion upgrad (from Snow Leapord) I didn't have this problem.  Now, my iCal on the phone seems locked or frozen, and any additions I make to my MBP do not sync to my iPhone.  Really frustrating!

Well,  you can try this: right click the file, go down to encode file, and reencode it for the Mac.

  • Want to upgrade from 10.7.5 on my MBP

I want to upgrade the software on my MBP.  My current software is 10.7.5 and i want 10.8.2.
I have the new download but my MBP wont let me install it as it says I Need 10.8 first.
I have tried to find this but I'm struggling as i think i need another update first before i can get 10.8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - as you can probably guess I am a MBP Newbie
    Thanks

You downloaded 10.8.2 update from Support website, but it needs OS X 10.8. Open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When the installer has downloaded, it will appear, so follow its steps to upgrade to OS X 10.8.2. Make a backup before upgrading and check if your programmes are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • Upgrading from 15" MBP to 13" MBP (questions on Adobe CS/Microsoft)

    Hi there,
I have an existing MBP 15" running Snow Leopard that I use for work. I will be purchasing a new 13" from Apple which has Lion to replace my work computer. However, I will be keeping my 15" and would like to upgrade that to Lion (will purchase the Lion software). In addition, on my 15" I have Adobe CS4 and Microsoft Office 2008. I have purchaed the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5 and the new Office 2011 (finally with Outook) which I intend to use on both computers (this is all within the license agreements - installing on 2 computers used by the same user, but not running at the same time).
I basically want the 15" and 13" to mirror each other. I know I can do this with Migration Assistant, but I have questions on the way to prep the computers first before doing so (mainly my concern is tranferring Adobe CS programs versus installing them from the CDs and trasnferring from a Snow Leopard OS to a Lion OS). If anyone has any advice on the options I've listed below, I would really appreciate it. I also plan to post to the Adobe and Microsoft forums but thought I would start here first.
Option 1: Is it better to first upgrade EVERYTHING on the 15" and then use Migration Assistant to tranfser everything including apps to the 13"? This means on the 15", first upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, then install the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5, install Office 2011 (transfer from Entourage email to Outlook) and then transfer everything to 13" new computer.
Option 2: Should I only upgrade the 15" OS to Lion and then transfer all the apps as is (Adobe CS4/Microsoft Office 2008) to the 13"? After the tranfsfer, then on both computers, I would install from the CDs the Adobe CS5.5 upgrade and Microsoft Office 2011.
Option 3: Should I just transfer everything as is (without upgrading first) from the 15" to the the 13"? This means after the transfer, on the 15" I would install Lion, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 from CDs. Then on the 13", I would install from the CDs Adobe CS4, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 (I don't really need 2008 on the 13" as this will be my work computer that I need Outlook for).
I'm also wondering in general regarding Entourage to Outlook if is better to do that transfer of email on my Snow Leopard computer first or Lion or does it really matter?
    Thanks so much in advance!

    Mid 2009 to 2011...
Will be a good test whether I/O trumps pure processing. Now, if the OP lucks out and gets the 13" when this year's iteration comes out (Ivy Bridge), then I'll raise the white flag and accept "upgrade".

  • Upgraded from iMac to MBP - now USB & Firewire hubs don't work

    Hi there,
I've just upgraded from a 2008 C2D 20" iMac to a new 2011 13" MBP i5. I'm running Pro Tools 8LE via a Digi 003 rack & have a Command8 plus other USB/FW400 devices in my set up. I've always used both a USB hub & a FW400 hub to connect everything to the iMac (daisy chaining causes some instability issues / track restriction in Pro Tools).
Now however, the MBP doesn't see any devices connected via the hubs. If I connect directly & daisy chain the devices, they work. I have the USB hub connected to the MBP with a FW800-FW400 cable.
Any idea what's causing this? Here's links to both hubs... they have been working fine with this setup for 3 years:

    Thanks

I had the same problem with my desktop Mac, and resolved the hub situation by following two suggestions: (1) daisy-chaining the devices (which you're already doing) and (2) reset the hub. For the latter, pull out your devices/hubs, reboot your MBP, and put the devices/hub in. This resets the hubs so you can use them again.
It also might help if you make sure you've plugged in the wall outlet; this increases the power available to your devices.
I'd be very interested if these fixes work.

  • Tip for upgrading from MBP to iMac with Leopard & Parallels Boot Camp

Here are some pointers based on my recent experience upgrading from a MacBook Pro to an iMac, under Leopard and with Parallels using a Boot Camp partition for Windows.
First, you do not need to create a Windows partition on your new computer. You will use Boot Camp Assistant to do that - it can dynamically resize your existing Mac OS X partition without destroying it. (I initially used Disk Utility to create a Windows partition but it wasn't recognised properly by Parallels and also the Mac wouldn't boot from it).
A great way to simplify getting your old installation across is to make a Time Machine backup onto an external drive. Yes, you could also use start up your old Mac in Target mode (hold down T key when you start it), then start the new Mac and copy your settings over. But in my case, the new iMac (a refurb) came with Tiger installed on it while my old Mac had already been upgraded to Leopard.
I started the new Mac using a Leopard install CD (holding down the C key while starting). Then I chose to restore from a Time Machine backup instead of installing from CD, and soon had a functioning Leopard installation on the new Mac. Well, almost.
Next I used Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition on the new drive. The old Mac's partition was only 10 GB in size, but I made the new one 31.9 GB in size (so I could stay under the Windows limit of 32 GB for FAT partitions). I then quit without installing Windows.
On the old Mac, I used an external drive formatted as FAT and used Disk Utility to 'restore' my Windows partition to the external drive. Next I plugged that drive into the new Mac, and restored the external Windows partition to the new Mac's Windows partition. So far, so good. However, Parallels would not start this installation of Windows, and the new Mac would not boot into it (holding down the Option key at start-up did not show me a Windows drive).
I tried doing a repair of the Windows installation using a Windows install disk but that did not work. What did work was the following: I booted from the Window install CD, then started a new installation. I asked Windows to format the Windows partition on the new Mac, then powered off the new Mac as soon as Windows started copying files. Next, I rebooted the new Mac into Mac OS X, started Disk Utility, and again did a restore of the Windows partition on the external drive to the Windows partition on the new Mac.
The final step was to reboot the new Mac into Windows directly so that I could load drivers from the Leopard install CD. [I haven't done that yet, so I'm not sure it's necessary].
    Hope this helps!

Sounds solid to me. If the Glyph was connected on a firewire port that is. This would free up the bandwith that way but actually it is hardly an issue with the Duet considering the limited inputs. But using the Glyph as a backup for your projects is good wise idea anyway.

  • Upgrading from MB to MBP - straight HD swap possible?

    Hi
I'm upgrading from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro. I'll have both machines side-by-side for one day, then the MacBook is being picked up for return.
As I've spent so many hours setting up application preferences, mail settings, itunes library, fonts, etc etc... Would it be possible to simply swap the hard disks? I'm not expecting it to work, but then again, why not? They are both 100gb 5200rpm.
The only real difference I'd expect there to be is a lack of drivers for the x1600, though there are likely to be a million things I'm not thinking of!
What do you guys think? Good idea, or not worth the trouble?
I suppose the alternative would be to use software like SuperDuper! to sync the two drives somehow.

I've commented here, and blogged about migration assistant. I have only great thigns to say about it. OK I've only used it personally once, mac mini to mac book pro, but I know my local apple store used it to go from my original mac book pro to my second mac book pro.
I think it's is a simple elegant, ok a bit slow, solution that works amazingly. MS offer a files and settings transfer wizzard - but it pales in comparison to Migration assistant. Even my weird putting the date in the menu bar hack transfered, it was seriosuly like using the same machine.

  • Upgrade from 10.6.7 to .8 will NOT complete on my Core Duo MBP?

is this because it is a 32bit CPU? I know I won't be runnin Lion...

    OK.
Here is the process I use and it hasn't failed me in 4 years.
    1. Download the Combo Update. (don't install until later)
    2. Disconnect all Peripherals
    3. Backup using Time Machine and a Bootable Clone
    3. Using either the Snow Leopard disc or a Bootable Clone Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk and Repair Disk.
    4. Restart the computer in Safe Mode and install the Combo Update following the on-screen instructions.
    5. After update has successfully installed restart normally and begin plugging in peripherals and test.
I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard with many updates in-between and this process has proven very reliable.

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

  • Advice on an upgrade or not to the MBP

    Hi Everyone,
About 3 months ago I made a switch from the PC to the Mac. Best thing I ever did.
I currently have a 2.0 Macbook, 100 gig HD, and the superdrive.
One thing I miss about the switch is the ability to play games. THe macbook does not have the juice. Wehn I was a PC guy I loved Half Life. I had an ati all in wonder 2006 eddition video card.
I decided that it would be a good time to upgrade to a Macbook pro. I found a great deal at macmall for $1,800 for the base macbook pro core 2 duo. I figure for my macbook which is one month old (due to a replacement issue) It is custom with 100 gig HD and 1 gig ram. I can probably get about $1,300 on ebay. I also have the apple care on it.
So I figured about $500 get me the upgrade to the pro with the core 2 duo and better graphics and all the other benefits, so I can play some games etc.
Well.... I just realized that the MBP only has a 128 kb video card which is a dissapointment. So I need some advice on what to do...
    1) Keep what I have until after new years... run a risk of it depreciating more, then see what is out there and if apple upgrades the card.
    2) Pay more money and go for the MBP with the 256K video. Will cost about $500 maybe a little less
    3) go to the apple web site and buy a refurb MBP CORE 1 DUO with the 256 video card for about the same price as a new core 2 duo base model.
    4) Buy an xbox 360 for games and keep the macbook
    5) See if I can get my old P IV PC working again
I can't think of any other options
Any advice would be really great!!!

I sold my MB and upgraded to a new C2D MBP and couldn't be happier. The graphics are a world of difference, and no excessive fan noise anymore. I just have the 128M graphics card, so I'm not sure how much better the 256M card would be.

  • How To Upgrade My VRam On A MBP

    Hy There
I am using a MacBook Pro and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade my mac's VRam from 256mb to 512mb of VRam. I am currently running on 8gb of RAM (Just saying if RAM is needed for upgrading my mac's VRam).
    PLZ HELP

This model has 2 gpu's - an embedded Intel Graphics gpu plus the dedicated nVidia 9400m.   While you cannot upgrade the 9400m VRAM, you can increase overall RAM in your MacBookPro.  Since the embedded Intel Graphics gpu utilizes shared RAM you may see some improved graphics performance by upgrading system RAM.   I noticed a substantial improvement when I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB RAM.
I have the same model MacBookPro, and I must say that after monitoring performance over the years, I have not found any situation where the 9400m improved graphics performance over the embedded Intel gpu.  But the 9400m does make the MBP run hotter and decreases battery run time.  Needless to say, after time i decided there was no benefit to running the 9400m.  (And I do use Photoshop, Aperture and Final Cut.)

  • Upgrade my RAM on my MBP (late 2011)

I am looking to upgrade my RAM on my MBP (late 2011). The Apple option is a little expensive for me at the moment. I have been doing a bit if reading and Crucial seem to have 'certified' options. Does anyone have experience of this type?

It's pretty easy to do yourself. Go to OWC to find tutorials as well as check the user guide for the computer - usually in Chapter 3.
Brand is not a major concern when purchasing memory. Crucial products are no better than most others even non-brands. Buy from a reliable vendor and only buy a product that comes with a manufacturer's lifetime guarantee.
In addition to OWC another good vendor is DataMem.
