Hijack of RAW files by PDF reader

suddenly this evening all my raw files got Acrobat logo.
on the 'open with' panel I was unable to choose Photoshop, but if I go to PS I can locate and open the file.
I cannot choose Photoshop on the "open with" panel for any file (jpeg, tiff, arw)
I had downloaded a reader update a few days ago, but no trouble for those few days.
I run CC 2014, on Win 7 Ultimate with all updates, and Norton 360.
Thanks

I maybe off the mark but...
Right click on the file
Select open with
Select more programs/choose default
Select browse
Navigate (browse) to PS location under 'programs'
Highlight PS Excecutable
Click open
make sure 'use as default' box is checked
click ok.
Unless you have some type of other problems this should do it and PS will reappear in the 'default program' list.

  • RAW files cannot be read?

I use LR 3.3 and recently it has stopped importing RAW files saying they cannot be read. I have been able to import them into iPhoto making me think the files are ok... any suggestions please????

I assume you're trying to import from the camera directly, or from the card via a card reader?
Try a card reader instead of importing from the camera directly
Try copying the files to local HD from outside of LR and import from there
Sometimes unreliable USB connections can lead to such symptoms.

  • Only half of my RAW files can be read

So I got a card from our photographer and half of the NEF files open fine will the other half are giving me an error saying that my version of Photoshop does not support that camera. Which makes no sense. It's from the same camera. You guys have any idea what happend or what I could do to recover those files?
I am running Photoshop 5.1 Extended v12.1 x64 on a Mac running 10.6.8 with Camera Raw plug-in v6.7.0.339 and finally all the photos were shot on a Nikon D800. Thanks!

The file on dropbox is rejected by the current ACR 8.3 and Lightroom 5.3.
The utility that would fix NikonTransfer or ViewNX corruption rejects this file a being a non-standard format.
I can use other utilities to extract the entire sensor data as a TIF so I don't think the data, itself, is corrupted.
The D800 can shoot FX mode using full-frame lenses and DX mode shooting with crop-frame lenses.  Googling, I can't find anything about either of these modes not being supported by LR.
The D800 can shoot regular raw photos with a 3:2 aspect ratio and video-still raw photos with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
A blurb on Adobe's website says the initial release of LR 4 (compatible with CS6 and ACR 7) can read 3:2 aspect ratio files but the 16:9 aspect ratio files are not supported until LR 4.1, which would be equivalent to the raw engine in CS6/ACR 7.1.
So that would mean you have no chance on CS5.x/ACR 6.7 but suggests later versions of LR and ACR would read it, starting with LR 4.1 and ACR 7.1; however, it does not work in the most current versions of LR 5, and seems to cause LR 4.3 and LR 4.4 to abort with a program error, so something is not right.
The file on dropbox that doesn't read into Adobe products is 4800x2704.  This means it is both a DX-crop file and 16:9 video-still aspect-ratio file.  Apparently while Adobe can read DX-crop files and 16:9 video-still files, Adobe products don't seem to work on a combination of both of those conditions.
Or maybe there is some slight corruption, although I'd expect only a few of your files to be unreadable if it was actually corruption, but if its half then probably all the files that are video stills with a DX lens are unreadable.
When I try to open the file in Raw Therapee (a free raw converter) it complains about a few fields being unknown but does open the file and will allow adjustments.  It may also not quite know what to do with DX-crop video-stills but it is more forgiving than Adobe products.
I have been unable to find a webpage at Adobe or elsewhere that says it will not read DX-crop video stills, but this is my working assumption.
Do you have access to pay-for (or free) Nikon raw-conversion software that is new enough to understand D800 images that could be used to at least create TIF files from these DX-video-stills so you could do further processing in LR?
Finally you might upload another couple of these files to dropbox.com in case something is indeed corrupted with the one example you put there, and others would work fine in newer Adobe products.

When you're looking at the list of documents, touch the Edit button at the upper-right. Then select the file you want to move by touching the check box to its left, and click the Move File icon, it's the third one from the left at the top of the screen. You'll be prompted to "Move selected document" after which the "Choose a location" dialog will appear to allow you to select a destination folder.

  • How to access my RAW files for my Nikon camera

I have purchased a Nikon camera and I would like to be able to access RAW files.  I read somewhere yesterday my Raw file is not coorect.  If I recall it needs to be 6.3 and is at level 6.1.  I am running Win7

After several hours of frustration, I may have it resolved, but I haven't
had time to check everything out.
I am working with Photoshop Elements 9 loading Edit, selecting updates
which was where I ran into my first problem.  I don't recall the exact
message, but something about maybe a firewall conflict.   I took an
alternate route and found RAW file 7.1,  downloaded it and got the message
I needed to update Adobe Manager.  Took two tries, but finally got it
Manager updated.  Next I extracted and attempted to install 7.1.  Got
message didn't apply to my software.  More research, find RAW 6.5 and the
only way to install it was through update in Photoshop Element.  To my
surprise no problem with "firewall" and it listed I needed two upgrades:
both Raw 6.5 and Photoshope Element 9.3.  The update actually started to
work so I guess the New Manager resolved the "firewall" problem.
Upon completion, I got a two errors messages
    Messages I received:

Error detail page suggested I reboot my compute which I did.   I went back
to update and the only choice listed was Elements 9.3.  After this update,
I only got one message:  same error #:  U44M1P2003.
I have not pursued this error further, but hope to do so.  Any suggestions
    would be appreciated.

  • Raw files not showing in PSE12

I recently upgraded from a Canon T3 to a Canon 70D.  I had been using PSE11 with my T3 without any trouble.  But when I got the 70D it would no longer load my raw files.  I did some quick research and saw that I needed to purchase PSE12, so I did.  However, my files still aren't showing even after doing an update.  I'm running on Vista and while my computer is 7 years old it really is working great so I would like to avoid getting a new system just to upload the raw files.  I read about DNG but I really don't want the extra step of having to convert my files.  I just want to be able to import the raw files and work with them from there.  I read somewhere that it's possible to do a manual upgrade to camera raw 8.3, but I can't find any directions.  Would love some help.  I'm about to pull my hair our.  What's so hard about them offering the update through the program I just shelled out $80 for.  I shouldn't have to spend hours getting PSE12 to work.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Sure, it's not too hard to do the upgrade to camera raw 8.3.
First download and install the 8.3 dng converter to install the required profiles for camera raw 8.3
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
Then download the Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip from the following link
(it's under where it says Revert to 8.3 on Windows 32-bit Windows XP and Vista)
(since pse 12 is a 32 bit program on windows, you want the 32 bit camera raw plugin)
Adobe Camera Raw Help | Camera Raw/DNG Converter 8.4 on Mac OS 10.6, Windows XP, and Vista
Extract the contents of the Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip and copy the enclosed Camera Raw.8bi file to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (64 bit windows vista system)
    or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (32 bit windows vista system)
It's a good idea to delete the old camera raw plugin before pasting the new one into one of the above places.

  • Processing Raw files

    Good Day all,
I have been using PSE10 and decided to move on to CS6 (am I am very happy that I have). I have set my camera to save only RAW files; sure they take up space but I like the idea of starting at the beginning. Now my question... When I click on a file and it opens with the RAW processor the sliders are already in position. In most instances I find that the markers (the little triangles) are not black but some other colour. So I reset the the sliders to zero and then move them until the two markers are black Or very close to it). I do this because I can then see the whole histogram and avoid clipping when possible. When I do this I believe (please correct me if I am wrong) I am looking at the 256 channels that store the information of colours in the image. Once that is done I will then adjust the other sliders  according to my "taste" so to speak, other users could set them in another place.  So, you can see my question; do I let PS decide where the sliders should go or should I keep on doing what I am doing?
And to the designers of PS6, I really like the look of the format of the work space. The icons in in the adjustment layer box are perfect queues for reminding me how to get started when adding the adjustment layers.

  • Just updated camera raw to 6.6 in photoshop 5 won't open raw files

Just updated camera raw in photoshop 5 to 6.6 on a mac pro running 10.6.8 os wont open a raw file and program freezes and must force quit to close. Lightroom update has problems as well. Don't recommend updating to either

    Photoshop CS5, 12.0.4 x64
2.93 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon Mac Pro
    8GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM
Photoshop is configured to open Raw, JPG & Tiff.
Raw files in CR2 format from my Canon EOS 5D MarkII
Applied the Camera Raw 6.6 update last night. There were no problems noted during the update. Did not realize until later that the files would not open any more - I was working with PSD files created several days before. I forwarded several crash reports to Apple after I force closed Photoshop several times. When I opened one of the three files Photoshop would not exactly freeze but the whole system became slow - the force-close menu took a while to display after I right-clicked the icon in the dock. If I dragged and dropped one of the three into the dock icon, Photoshop would open with usual audible disk sounds but the sounds stopped quickly and the program was frozen.
I recovered using suggestions from the forum, used Time Machine to return Photoshop, Bridge and the Adobe folder in the path /Library/Application Support/Adobe/ to the state before the update. The Camera Raw Plug-in is now at 6.5 and I can open RAW files again.

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.

  • New Computer - Can't import raw files from Canon 1D mk 4

I just bought a new Toshiba Qosmio laptop and have reinstalled PS CS5 and LR 3.2 64 bit.  LR says there are no other updates to install.  Trying to import raw files from CF reader but LR is not showing me the raw files on the import screen.  I have installed Camera Raw 6.2 plug in.  It's been a long night but I can't see why files aren't importing properly.  What am I missing?  All suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Mark,
The ACR plugin is not needed for importing files with Lightroom. LR has it's own "ACR" built in. The ACR plugin is used when opening Raw files from Photoshop.
Try copying the files from your card-reader to your hard drive using explorer/finder, and try importing from there. There have been quite a few reports where the card reader (and its connection) have lead to trouble while importing into LR.

  • Issues with Aperture 3.3.1 and LX-5 raw files

Having used my Lumix LX-5 raw files successfully with previous versions of Aperture, after loading some into V3.3.1 this morning, the initial preveiws were fine, and then I watched everyone change from a normal well exposed image to vertially all black with a very dark green colour cast!
No amount of adjustment via the inspector tools wil fix them.
Anyone got any suggestions or solutions?
    Thanks

    Two things to try:
Force the generation of new previews by holding down the option key while selecting "Update Preview"
If this only happened after you upgraded to 10.7.4 and worked well before, then register your camera with the lauch services database - see this post by Alan Roseman:This solved my questionRe: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish, but read the follow up posts (the lsregister command) as well, on how it is supposed to work and how to correct the typos.
Added: if that does not help, try to remove the raw presets from ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/RawDecodePresets.plist

  • How can I access RAW files from a Canon 650D on PSE 9 or 10?

We have versions 9 and 10 of PSE to install on two computers, upgrading from version 6 on one of them.
We have two Canon cameras - a 450D and a 650D - and have taken RAWs on both. The 450 works fine with PSE6, but we can't get PSE 9 to take a RAW converter new enough to read the 650 files.
We don't really understand the difference between CR2 and DNG so don't know what we might lose if we used the DNG converter for the 650 RAW files.
    Pat & Mike

You'll have to upgrade to PSE11 to get native support for the 650D, or use the DNG converter to make your files compatible with an earlier version.
