[HINT] SQL Reference

Hi friends,
Today I've found out a SQL Guide by Microsoft I thought you might find interesting.
I has all functions from SQL Server 2005 and explains what they're for and how to use it.
The link is: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189826.aspx
Enjoy!

    Hello,
    I had a really nice page from oracle 8i about SQL Reference. There, you could find any SQL-command explain. Now is it down and I cannot find a similar one for 9i.
    Can you give me a hint where to find a SQL Reference (Oracle should have a new one...)
    Reference

    The SQL reference guide is one of the books available at the documentations site (mentioned as a weblink in an earlier reply).
    It is also possible to download this library at this page:
    http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/oracle9i.html
    It is quite big (210MB) but it is essential, for us that are not able to memorize everything...

  • Oracle 8i SQL Reference

    I am not able to find this SQL Reference. I have followed your instructions and looked at the following without luck:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/tech/sql_plus/index.html
    http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/index.html#previous

    Hi Debbie,
    Apologies for the delay in resonding to you.
    I'm not sure which version of the Reference you are seeking. However, if you are looking for the 8.1.7 release, then this is the path you can use on the Documentation pages.
    Go to the Previous releases section on the OTN Documentation home page: http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/index.html#previous
    Then click on: "Oracle8i Database Release 8.1.7".
    This returns the Release 8.1.7 Documetation page. On this page you will find Documentation libraries, e.g. A87860_01. Click on the "View library" link.
    Then click on the "Oracle8i Server and SQL*Plus" link. The Reference is then listed.
    You can try this with any of the "view library" links on any of the Release 8i doc pages.

    Les

  • Finally! T-SQL Reference for SQL 2014 available for download!

    With a mere delay of four month since the release, it is now possible to download the T-SQL Reference for SQL 2014 for your local copy of Books Online. Due to some reorganisations of the reference material on MSDN, the language reference was misisng from
    the initial download.
    To get the reference, you need to use Manage Help Settings, which you find the SQL 2014 program group. Select the option "Install content from online". Once all information has been loaded, scroll down to the SQL Server 2014 group and you will
    SQL Server Language Reference with an Add option, which you should select.
    Now, SQL 2014 uses Help Viewer 1.0, which is very poor, and versions 2.0 and 2.1 which ships with VS 2012/2013 is much more pleasant to use. Thanks to SQL Server MVP Simon Sabin, you can get the SQL 2014 into Help Viewer 2.x in this way. Go to
    https://helpviewerredirector.codeplex.com/
    save the file to a directory. Open a command prompt in that directory and run "HelpViewerRedirector download". Then in Help View, go to manage settings, and select install content from disk. Browse to the folder and select the files you want to see
    in Help Viewer 2.1.

  • Oracle SQL Reference

    There used to be a great site 'Oracle 9i SQL reference' formerly linked at: http://oradoc.photo.net/ora81/DOC/server.815/a67779/index.htm
    It included a full syntax of all SQL commands, such as the Create Tablespace, giving and explaining all options for the command. Does anyone know what happened to this reference ? I assume that with 9i, it got replaced - but I do not know where to find it.
    Any ideas ?: [email protected]

    If you go to http://tahiti.oracle.com, Oracle has put all their documentation online. There's a section for the 9.2 documentation, the 9.0 documentation, and the 8.1.7 documentation. This includes a SQL Reference and a PL/SQL Reference.

  • Oracle 7 SQL Reference Manual

    I am new with Oracle and require the reference manual to find out more about join conditions. I have some difficulty finding a document from the Oracle web on SQL reference.

    Hello everybody
    I have searched but I did not find any site for downloading pdf file for documentation of ORACLE9i SQL Reference.
    Where can I download it ?
    Thank you very much indeed.

    9i is unsupported so Oracle no longer provides it for download. Why do you want to learn obsolete software?

  • Where to find 9i PL SQL Reference?

    I know there are many books on the market, and profit must be made, but doesn't oracle release a PL/SQL reference guide for each release of its database?
    If so can anyone give me the URL? I'm trying to prepare for the 1Z0-147...but there are a lack of good resources available (for 9i).
    Much appreciated!

  • PL/SQL Reference

    I'm trying to find a reference for basic pl/sql syntax (ie creating functions and stored procedures). Is there a guide somewhere on OTN?
    Thanks!

    Use the Documentation link - top of this page.
    Or you can always buy a copy of Pl/Sql in 21 days. Basic but it's a good start.

  • Cold fusion SQL reference to var

    Here's what I'm trying to do
    <cfscript>
    j=createobject("java", "java.net.InetAddress");
    m=createobject("java", "java.net.NetworkInterface");
    a=j.getLocalHost();
    mac=m.getByInetAddress(a).getHardwareAddress();
    </cfscript>
    <!--- Get all records from the database that match this users credentials --->
    <cfquery name="qVerify" datasource="ABCD">
    SELECT *
    FROM MobileUsers
    WHERE Mac = '#mac#'
    </cfquery>
    -- and I get:
    ByteArray objects cannot be converted to strings
    I've tried to convert mac to a string and it does without error but them my mac var turns into what looks like binary data.  There has to be a more simple way that works

  • Oracle 11.2 PL-SQL Language Reference - NOCOPY Example 8–17

    Hello,
    The following is from the Oracle PL/SQL reference, page 8-19:
    In Example 8–17, the procedure has an IN OUT NOCOPY formal parameter, to which it assigns the value 'aardvark'.
    The anonymous block assigns the value 'aardwolf' to a global variable and then passes the global variable to the procedure.
    If the compiler obeys the NOCOPY hint, then the final value of the global variable is 'aardvark'.
    If the compiler ignores the NOCOPY hint, then the final value of the global variable is 'aardwolf'.
    DECLARE
        TYPE Definition IS RECORD (word VARCHAR2(20),meaning VARCHAR2(200));
        TYPE Dictionary IS VARRAY(2000) OF Definition;
        lexicon Dictionary := Dictionary(); -- global variable
        PROCEDURE add_entry (word_list IN OUT NOCOPY Dictionary -- formal NOCOPY parameter)
        IS
        BEGIN
            word_list(1).word := 'aardvark';
        END;
    BEGIN
        lexicon.EXTEND;
        lexicon(1).word := 'aardwolf';
        add_entry(lexicon); -- global variable is actual parameter
        DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(lexicon(1).word);
    END;
    Result:
    aardvarkI am confused. I would expect the output to be aardvark regardless of whether NOCOPY was obeyed or not. To test this, I removed the NOCOPY hint and as expected the output was the same. Of course, it should
    be the same, because you're saying: "I'm going to pass you a variable that you can change inside the program, so I expect the actual parameter passed to reflect that change outside of the program".
    NOCOPY doesn't change that, does it?
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    The difference will show up if, rather than returning successfully from your procedure after setting the variable, an exception is raised instead. Without NOCOPY, the assigned value will be "rolled back"; with it, it is not.

  • How to set hint with SQL profile

    Hi,
    I need to put a leading hint into a sub-query
    How can I do that ?
    I tried:
    dbms_sqltune.import_sql_profile
    sql_text => 'select ...'
    profile => sqlprof_attr(XXXXX) => I don't know what to set for XXXXX
    name => my_sql_profile
    force_match => true)10.2.0.4
    Thanks for your help

    I need to put a leading hint into a sub-query It doesn't sound like a good idea.
    If you're going to hint - especially using plan stability features - then you need to hint fully otherwise you're asking for trouble.
    See http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/2011/06/08/how-to-hint-1/
    The "best" approach to this sort of generic question is to run the sql statement with the single leading hint (if that really is desirable) then extract the full set of hints from that execution (which will have a different sql id) and apply it to your original statement.
    If you have a look at COE_XFR_SQL_PROFILE.SQL in Oracle Support doc id 215187.1 then that will give you a good idea of how to do it.
    That script is not exactly what you want because it uses a sql profile to apply a previously generated plan for that specific sql taken out of AWR or the cursor cache, but the principle is the same.
    This is using SQL Profiles as they were not originally designed - which was vehicles for statistical adjustements - but using them like stored outlines (the latter deprecated in 11.1 onwards).
    SQL Profiles require the tuning pack.
    You have not mentioned version but depending on that, it might be that SQL Plan Baselines are the appropriate mechanism and you can achieve something similar to that mentioned above using dbms_spm.load_plans_from_cursor_cache:
    load_plans_from_cursor_cache
    (sql_id           IN VARCHAR2,   <---------- the sql id of the manually hinted sql from which to copy the plan
    plan_hash_value  IN NUMBER := NULL,  <-------------- the plan in memory to copy
    sql_text         IN CLOB,  <-------------------- the sql text of the sql to apply the plan above to (get via a direct look up from v$sql or dba_hist_sqltext as necesary)
    fixed            IN VARCHAR2 := 'NO',
    enabled          IN VARCHAR2 := 'YES') Whichever method you use, avoid any sort of solution involving a single hint directed at a subquery.

  • Where are the SQL and PSQL reference manuals gone ?

    Hello,
    I cannot found the SQL and PSQL reference manuals on OTN. In previous version of this web site, there was direct links available, but they seem to have disappeared. As a SQL developer, I have frequently to search in those manuals:
    - Oracle8i SQL Reference Release 8.1.5 A67779-01
    - Oracle8i SQL Reference Release 2 (8.1.6) A76989-01
    - Oracle8i SQL Reference Release 3 (8.1.7) A85397-01
    - Oracle9i SQL Reference Release 1 (9.0.1) A90125-01
    - Oracle9i SQL Reference Release 2 (9.2) A96540-01
    - Oracle8i PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference Release 8.1.5
    - Oracle8i PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference Release 8.1.6
    - Oracle8i PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference Release 8.1.7
    - Oracle9i PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference Release 9.0.1
    - Oracle9i PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference Release 9.2
    I found in this forum links to Oracle9i SQL Reference
    Release 2 (9.2) and PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
    Release 2 (9.2), but I would appreciate to have links in the OTN page. Why did you change this ? I must now use Google to search the informations that I need.
    Regards

    FYI, all the Oracle manuals are online at http://tahiti.oracle.com. There is also a SQL & PL/SQL statement lookup feature that strikes me as a bit easier than using the manual.
