Hissing sound from audio port

I bought a new "TOSHIBA PORTEGE Z30T-A-123" some days ago.
It was Windows 7 pre-installed, and it came with two Windows 8.1 Pro CDs and I made all the updates.
The issue is I'm experiencing a low level hissing sound with my earplugs when there is no audio signal, so I need to mute the speaker. I had similar issue before with Portege Z930 but that time there was an option in sound settings when I diabled it the isssue was solved. But this time such setting does not exist.
Is there way to completely mute this hissing sound?

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.
If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • High pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor

I am getting high pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor.
Sound is coming from some place near CPU area.
I tried changing Core C 6 State in BIOS from Enabled to Disabled to fix this issue.
    I also followed steps in following link, w w w . tomshardware.com/forum/292915-30-high-pitched-noise-coming-area
    No luck with above changes.
I heard this is a common problem with MSI motherboards. Is there any fix for this issue.

That is surely no typical problem of MSI mainboards. In fact that is very rare if it is the board.
Tke the board out of case on a non conductive surface with nothing else connected but but mainboard, ram, psu, cpu and vga. Try it again after clearing CMOS (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<)
If you are then 100% sure that it is the board this could be a defect as MSI mainbaords normally don't cause coil whine and I haven't heard that about 970A-G46 so far
I tried clearing CMOS by replacing jumper and loading factory defaults. Still high pitch sound is coming intermittently. As my 30 day period is over with Frys Electronics, How easy to get a replacement board from MSI. Does anyone know the steps?

  • 2011 MBP 17" 2.3 GHz - High pitch hissing sound from left speaker

When I transfer large amounts of data (wifi and ethernet) I get a high pitch hissing sound from the left speaker. When the transfer is done, the hissing stops.
Is anyone else experiencing this and is there anything I can do to stop it?
When it occurred: I was transferring data from my old MBP to my new 2011 MBP first via WiFi, then by Ethernet (much faster . My old (2007) MBP had not hissing what so ever, by my new MBP was rather loud. I'm very happy it's only when using the network.

I get this sound every time I download, WiFi or Ethernet it dosen't matter the sound is the same. I can't guarantee that it's from the speaker, I have an old Netgear switch that sounds the same when I use it (just to clarify: I'm not using that switch anymore or ever have with this MBP)
So it could be some electrical sound (I'm not a hardware engineer) just a guess.

  • No output sound from output port/analog audio: Need help

hello, I want to connect my analog audio equipment to my iMac. I have done this in the past with my old G3. I have connected the RCA cables to a 3.5 mm jack and put it into the audio input port, which was what worked on the G3. When I open the sound page for input & output, on Output I can see the volume bar thing moving in relation to the sounds from mic, turntable, etc: all the analog audio things. However, there is no actual output of sound through the iMac;s speakers or a headphone. The output page is pretty simple so I am real sure I have all the rigt things checked, unchecked etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had what sounds like a similar problem to jazzzrat. i had my macbook setup to a stereo and it worked for over a year. suddenly no sound came out of the stereo. in my case, it definitely was a software setup thing.
plug in your stereo jack into the audio out port. then go to system preferences-->sound-->output. on there you should see, under "device for sound output": Name=Headphones, port=built-in output. (if you see name=built in speakers, you plugged in the wrong plug). Now go down to the bottom of the window and UNcheck the "mute" box, and make sure the volume slider is midway or more.
For some reason, mac allows you to mute the "headphones" and "built in speakers" selectively. we have no idea how that box got checked, that remains a complete mystery. but when we eventually found -- and unchecked -- the box, our stereo output came back just fine.
i hope this works for you. good luck and have a good new year.

  • Mac mini 2014 won't do 5.1 surround sound from HDMI port

I can't seem to get my Mac mini 2014 to do 5.1 surround sound from the built-in HDMI port to my home theatre system. When I run the Audio MIDI Setup program the only option is 2ch-24bit (stereo). Now I didn't have this issue when I tested it with a Mac mini 2012 running 10.9.5. It allow me to select 6ch-24bit (5.1) and Encoded Digital Audio. I also don't have an issue with the Mac mini 2014 if I use a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter connected to one of the Thunderbolt 2 ports. It does 5.1 surround sound just fine. So is there something wrong with the built-in HDMI port on the Mac mini 2014 or OS X 10.10?

  • Hissing sound in audio

i have a couple of clips where there is alot of whispering going on. in order to hear it, i have to turn the volume up in the audio part of fcp.
when i do, i hear a hissing sound in the audio. what causes this and how do i remove it.
    thanks.
    jordan

If you've got line hum or buzz, a low cutoff filter may help somewhat.
If the hissing is noise, rather than a low frequency hum, then you're only going to be able to do so much to remove it, because noise cuts across many frequencies and can't really be EQ'd out.
If you must work with this audio, you can try some version of Digital Intelligent Noise Reduction. Soundtrack Pro has a filter called Nenoiser (one of the "Soundtrack Pro" filters) which you can try.
The basic principal is that you give the program a sample of pure noise with no signal, and it attempts to surgically remove this from your recording. Play with the settings - you'll be aiming for a happy medium between noise removal and a metallic flanging sound which infects your recording when you apply the affect too heavily.
Good luck - and hopefully you won't have to do this kind of salvage job too often! There's only so much a humble FCP editor can do with a badly flawed recording....

  • No sound from audio jack and screen doesn't dim, using BootCamp 3.1 in Win7

    I'm using BootCamp 3.1 in Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
When I plug in headphones I get no output sound; however, I do get sound from the main speakers (regardless of the headphones being connected or not). Side note, there is no red light coming from the audio jack.
Another problem that I'm having: when I try to dim the display, using either F1 or F2, or from the BootCamp Control Panel in the Dim tab, it doesn't dim.
I've saw in Apple's Support Download section that there is "Boot Camp Update for MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Windows 64 bit)", but as you can see it's "Mid 2010" and not "Mid 2009".
However, for the sake of exhausting everything I can think of before posting here, I tried to download and install it. Only to get an error that states "The patch upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be updated exists on your computer and that you have the correct update patch."
    Any suggestions?

the G5 is not en intel based cpu so people here may not know too much about the hardware setup but

I am not involved to any great extent with iTunes or its music although my recent iPod has drawn me in that direction.
So reflecting on your observations regarding iTunes m4a and m4p...
    a. Everything that I have read so far says that m4a and m4p are the same except that the m4p includes the DRM restrictions (or it did until iTunes did away with DRM for its music). Further these file extensions seem to wrap AAC audio compression.
    b. Premiere Elements (many versions) seems to have been hit with many users issues relating to the use of iTunes music in their creations. My recollection is that these users usually presented with .m4a music and were directed to a variety of methods for converting the .m4a to .mp3. The rationale behind the suggestions appear to be go to the protected music aspect of the music rather than a file extension or audio compression incompatibility issue. All of these conversions rightly or wrongly seemed to be wrapped with the protect issue. Converting the .m4a to .mp3 worked for most. That was their bottom line. Whether the .m4a (in spite of its file extension) had DMR causing the issue or format incompatibility causing it never seemed to be defined.
    c. In fact, there are numerous articles online that address removal of DRM from iTunes m4a, AAC, and m4p.
    d. But, since iTunes appears to have removed DRM from its music, the matter dissolves.
    e. Prior to the iTunes' removal of the DRM, it is not clear to me just what iTunes music had DRM in spite of its file extension.

  • Hissing Sound from built-in microphone

Hey guys, I've recently purchased and installed Logic on my iMac running on ML.
Without any external microphones or any other external hardware plugged into the computer, I'm getting a horrible hissing sound when I try recording something using the built-in microphone.
After two days spent trying to solve the issue, I've installed a very basic sound recording app (Audio Hijack Pro) and after hitting the record button I get the same sound.
I've tried lowering the built-in microphone volume in System Preferences but the problem persists. The problem is therefore not with the software but the built-in hardware...but I'm out of ideas!
Strange enough, I don't have the same issue using Garage Band
    Any help please?

    Go here:
    http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/9.1.6/en/logicpro/usermanual/#chapter=2%26sec tion=0
Read    "Configuring Your Audio Hardware"   see if it answrs your question.
Try not to equate Logic & Garageband, while they share some of the same elements Garageband tends to set things up for you, Logic being a professional programs expects the user to know how to set the program up for their particular system.
Reading the manuals and using the online help is a must.
You don't need Audio HiJack Pro, if anything it will confuse matters.

  • No sound from headphone port in 15" macbook pro mid 2012

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem.  I didn't use my headphone port for a long time and then when I did I used a non-Apple headphone and when I got no sound I thought it because it was b/c of this.  So when I used an Apple headphone recently I found I had the same problem.  I am wondering if there is a fix out there or if it is something inherent and I need to get it repaired.  I get sound from the built in speakers just not from the headphone jack.  Much thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Removing "phone" sound from audio made over the phone

I'm producing a documentary and want to get some sound bites from a range of people all over the country The only way to get them is by phone. Does anybody have filter info that will let me remove the "phone" sound from these clips?

A phone sounds like a phone because it's already filtered. A lot of both the high and low frequency information is removed from the audio signal on a phone line. Once it's removed there's not really a way to get it back. You can try to reduce the most offensive "tinny" frequencies with an EQ, but you won't be able to add the full frequency range back in.

  • No sound from audio speaker or headphone jack

Hello all i bought a HP Probook 4535s from a friend and im not getting any sound from the speakers or headphone jacks. I have flashed the BIOS to the F.41 and this didin't fix the problem. • Hissing sound from iMac when power off !!!

My -NEW- iMac core duo 2.0 makes a hissing/whining sound when power is off.
When powered on the sound is gone and all things are normal.
What makes the sound and is this a malfunction of the powersupply ?

    Hi Benno,
I have the "hissing" that you describe (only when shut down and plugged in). I asked in a previous thread if anyone had the hissing sound successfully repaired and got no replies.
To research a bit more, I searched on the apple support site using the terms "imac hissing" and I found this link (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60199) . I realize the link is for an article written prior to the release of the intel imac but I felt that it indicated a similar noise was observed with an older product (and noted to be normal) so I felt a bit better.
So, given the lack of posts about successful repairs, the link above, and the fact that my imac has been running flawlessly for four months, I've decided to just ignore it for now. Only time will tell if this is the correct decision. Please let us know how things go for you.

  • True 5.1 surround sound from headphone port over a Toslink cable?

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690 page regarding the headphone port simply says: "Support for audio line out (digital/analog)". So, in planning a purchase I have the following 2 questions:
    1. Does the newly released 15" MacBook Pro w/ Retina display have the ability to output true 5.1 surround sound or is it only able to output simulated surround sound? In other words, does the newest MacBook Pro decode the 5.1 signal (separate outputs front center, fronts, rears and subwoofer) over a Toslink cable pluged into the side headphone jack?
    2. Using the above confuguration will the new MacBook Pro be able to play true 5.1 surround sound on HD movies purchased or rented from iTunes?

    Probably:  http://osx411.com/index.php?/topic/38-hook-your-macbook-pro-up-to-your-surround- system/
