Histogram behavior in CS6

Hi,
I prefer leaving my histogram in Photoshop CS6 in RGB mode, yet everytime I close the program and re-open photoshop, it defaults to Colors when I open a new document. Does anyone know how to get it to retain the RGB readout as a default?
John

Just clicking RGB in the Channels panel immediately after opening a file doesn't change the Histogram channel from Colors to RGB.
Clicking a single channel then RGB in Channels panel does change Histogram channel to RGB.
I thought an Action bound to a Fn key could be a solution but two approaches failed:
1. Channel panel changes in an Action do not result in a Histogram channel change.
2. Picking a channel in Histogram panel is not recorded in an Action.
Note that if an RGB document is layered (i.e. does not contain only the special Background layer) then detargeting all layers will switch the Histogram channel to RGB.
That automatic switch to RGB can be an annoyance when you want a different Histogram channel to remain active, and is particularly disruptive if you have the Histogram panel in Compact mode. The panel needs to be in Expanded mode in order to change its channel. The options for channel and source should be in the panel's dropdown menu so they can be easily changed when the panel is in Compact mode.

  • Changed Color Management Behavior in CS6

    hi,
i recently stumbled across the fact that in photoshop cs6 the color management behavior regarding dual monitor setups has changed.
    behavior in photoshop cs5:
if more than 50 percent of a window was displayed on one of the monitors the corresponding monitor profile was used to render the image.
that totally makes sense to me.
but in photoshop cs6 the behavior looks like this:
if the window is completely on the primary display everything is fine, but if I drag the window and only pixel from that window appears on the secondary display, the profile from the secondary display is used to render the image.
which is in my opinion a complete nonsense.
Is there anyone else who has encountered this behavior?
or is there anyone who could tell me if this is a feature or a bug?
    thanks

the second change is actually the change to the monitor profile of the secondary display. which is correct and the same behaviour as in photoshop cs5. but i don't know why the first change is there ...? but maybe thats not even a photoshop bug/feature and more of an os thing?
although it was definitly not occuring under cs5 on the same os version ...
As I said, I can't vouch for the behavior of Photoshop 13.x on Snow Leopard. I'm on Ps 13.0.6 under Lion 10.7.5.  There is no change in this respect in relation to previous versions of Photoshop.
What you are seeing could be due to a variety of reasons, such as the version of the driver for your video card, or what you are calling "the first change" could simply be the image displaying using the monitor profile for your first video card before you move the image enough for the profile for the 2nd monitor "kicks in".  Who knows?

  • HELP! Odd behavior in Photoshop CS6. Anyone have a solution?

Hi I am having really odd behavior in CS6. I have reset and cleared preferences. As you can see from the screenshot I have a rectangle shape layer but I have not assigned any shape layer effects to it.  PS is adding a black border on its own and I have no idea how to get rid of it. I have been using photoshop for 20 years and this is driving me nuts. I've never seen this behavior before. If I add a color overlay the line is still there. If I rasterize the shape layer then add a color overly  the outline disappears. But I don't want to raterize my shape layers. Anyone know how to get rid of it? Thank you in advance to anyone who might have a solution.

You appear to be on Windows, so I couldn't help you anyway.
But for the benefit of Photoshop Windows users, please consider the following:

if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
A screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

  • Illustrator CS6 Mac windows undock from OS X Dock

We have many designers working on many files simultaneously in Illustrator CS6 for OS X. The preference is to not have Illustrator put multiple documents into tabs but in separate windows. They also like to minimize unused documents to the OS X Dock and maximize as needed. However the current complaint is that when you create a new document, docked windows maximize automatically. This is with Illustrator CS6 version 16.0.4.
    In other words:
    1) In Illustrator, create a new document or open an existing one and minimize it to the OS X Dock.
    2) Create new a document or open an existing one and the document minimized to the Dock will maximize behind your current document.
Is this normal behavior for CS6? This did not happen with CS5 or CS5.5.
Designers complain that they then accidentally close the previously Docked file without saving and lose changes (typically because they didn't want to save changes on the current document).
    Thanks,
    Sussman Prejza

    I have this same issue.
I only started having the problem when I upgraded to CS6 at work. I never had this problem with CS3, CS4 or CS5.
I have not been able to find any info on how to fix the issue.

  • CS6 content aware fill and spot healing smudge

I just upgraded to CS6 64 bit under Windows 7.  I used content aware fill and the spot healing tool on CS5 under XP with no problems.  Now under CS6 they leave a smudge.  For example, if the is a spot on a vein of a leaf, now, instead of removing the spot and filling in the line of the vein I just get a smudge the size of the spot healing brush.
Content aware fill now leaves a smudged and obviously poor result.
Is there some new option or behavior under CS6 that I need to understand to fix this or is this simply a bug?
Thanks for any and all help.
    Selby

I have been experimenting and have found out something more.  Previously, before doing a content aware fill operation I would create a new layer at the top of the layer stack that was a merge of all layers below it (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E) and the content aware fill operation worked very well.
In CS6 it now appears to me that it still gets influenced by the lower layers in the stack, despite the fact that it is operating on the merge of those layers.  If I duplicate the image, and then flatten the duplicate, the content aware fill operation then in some cases works as I would expect.  I then duplicate the layer back to my original image, delete the parts I don't need and put it at the top of the stack in my original image.
So something appears to have changed in CS6 and it might be a bug.

  • Available Ram in CS6 is inexplicably low

    Hi.
I've installed Photoshop CS6 on my Macbook Pro Retina i7 with 8gb of RAM. Running latest version of OSX Mountain Lion.
The system is obviously 64bit, as is the hardware. In the spashscreen of PS CS6, it says x64, so I know it's not running in 32bit.
Nonetheless, I have only got 1829Mb indicated as "available Ram". Why can't PS "see" the other 6Gigs?
When selecting the PS.app in "programs", and getting info, there is no option about 32 or 64bit to be found.
I think I'm missing something, but can anybody explain what?
    Tx in advance,
    Peter

    Hi Chris,
Can't explain what happened, but as I checked the Sytem Log info, the amount of RAM used by photoshop fluctuates  ??! I entered two occasions (1) and (2), but I've seen it at 2Gb and less as well...
Same in preferences. I can't say it's ever the same...
I must say that I did copy the plug-ins folder from CS5 to CS6 blindly, in order to keep the plugins. In the beginning it stated that some of the plugins couldn't be loaded, so I erased them from the plug-ins folder, and that seemed to work.
On the other hand, since I posted my first request, I didn't do anything in order to change the behavior of CS6.
I have Lightroom 4 open all the time with a library of approx. 5Gb Maybe this has an influence on things?
I hope you can figure this out.

  • Annoying layer behavior with symbols

    hello,
in cs6 when I break a link to a symbol, the symbol group becomes a sublayer and the layers panel gets expanded showing all the objects in that layer. I then have to collapse the menu. every time I select any object that was part of the symbol, my layers panel expands. this is very frustrating. so avoided it, when I break a symbol, I have to select the objects from the menu panel and move them out of the sublayer. this is not very fun to do when I have a lot of symbols to deal with.
so is this a new behavior in cs6, is there a way for a symbol to break into a group and not a sublayer (ithink that's what's happening not sure)?

Do a forum search for symbol sublayer.
You will find some older threads including workarounds.

  • CS6 64bit Illustrator - win, where to place scripts

    HI all,
I just got CS6,  and I can't figure out where to place all of my scripts.  In CS4 version, once the scripts where in the correct folder, they would show up in the the scripts list,.  In CS6, I have to keep finding them.  Any help would be great.

    Karleen1977,
We're you ever able to resolve this issue?
Carlos - For me, the issue isn't installing the scripts in the Script menu.  It's the fact that in CS6 Illustrator doesn't remember the location of the scripts when you use Cntrl+F12 or select "Other Scripts" from the scripts menu.  It reverts to the root C: drive every time I try to get to my "other scripts".  This is a new behavior in CS6, as CS5 always remembered the last folder location when selecting "Other Scripts".
I need to be able to hit "Cntrl+F12" and have it remember to load the last folder I used for scripts, so I we don't have to waste a ton of time browsing to the folder location just to run a "time-saving" script.
Anyone have any ideas with this?

  • New Image Size and Resolution in CC

    Hi there.
Ok, maybe i'm missing something, but how do i reduce the ppi's of a given image in the Photoshop CC? Changing it in the image size, in the Resolution field, it acomplish nothing. It logs an entry in the History panel, but nothing changes in the picture. Did Adobe changed how this works, or it's just a bug?
    Thank you.

Try setting to real-world measurement, like inches or cm.
Hi Charles, i think that change in cm/mm/in it's the only way to change the image ppi (in my case save/resample it to 108ppi). Can you confirm that this is correct?
Anyway when i go to image size (new panel of CC) the w/h are:
    1) grey and always set in pixel with resample flagged.
    2) always set in inches with resample NON-flagged (also if my ruler unit is in Pixel).
(and actually that is not new behavior. CS6 behaved same way when width and height were set to percent)
In CS6 and CC i never seen w/h in percent  - where is my error?
    Many thanks!

  • Urgent!  Adobe killed drag/dropping workflow in CC.  Help restore it!

I posted this first FR at the end of another thread, here.  Due to the importance of this issue, IMO, I'm giving this FR a new thread, plus adding as second version of the same FR.
My stance is simple.  Every change Adobe makes to Premiere Pro should be positive to most or all people.  If a change Adobe makes is negative for most or all people, then it must be removed.
Adobe did a negative change in CC, which brings about zero positive improvements (unless proven otherwise which has not been done yet).
In CC, drag-dropping clips no longer  = dropping what you're dragging!  If you only have a video track source patched, audio doesn't get dragged to the Timeline.  If you only have an audio track source patched, video doesn't get dragged to the Timeline.
This is contrary to the way it worked in CS6 (where it made sense): drag drop clip = same clip dropped, regardless of Timeline settings!
Please help fix this by sending the following FRs as your own or writing a FR of your own based on this new problem Adobe introduced in CC.  Thank you and God bless all those that care enough about Premiere to take action!
VERSION 1 (revert back to CS6)
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
Drag/Dropping video with audio clip from Source Monitor or Project window to Timeline should include both video and audio... always!
How would you like the feature to work?
The way it did in Premiere Pro CS6:
    A. Video with audio dragged from Project window = video with audio dropped in Timeline
    B. Three drag/dropping options from Source monitor, regardless of Source Patch settings.  Drag/drop:
    1. Source Monitor Image = Video + Audio
    2. 'Drag Video Only' button = Video only
    3. 'Drag Audio Only' button = Audio only
In CC, these options no longer work properly depending on Source Patching.  This makes no sense, and provides zero benefits to the editor!
Why is this feature important to you?
Because intelligent workflows matter!  There's nothing intelligent or efficient about the Source Monitor's buttons working some times but not others, or drag/dropping a clip from the Project window only to find its audio doesn't appear in the Timeline.  When drag and dropping clips, Source Patching should determine default clip PLACEMENT, Not WHAT gets dragged to the Timeline!
VERSION 2 (give us a choice!)
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature: Preferences window option to disable Source Patching's effect on drag/dropped clips.
How would you like the feature to work?
If Adobe can't/won't revert drag/dropping back to functional CS6 standards, whereby clip dragged = same content dropped regardless of Timeline settings, then please give us the option of turning off CC's new drag/dropping behavior through a new check box option in the Preferences Window: "Source patching affects Drag/dropping".
    Checked = CC behavior
    Unchecked = CS6 behavior
Why is this feature important to you?
Because respecting workflows matters!  CS6 and prior Premiere editors had their workflows disrespected when Adobe suddenly changed drag/dropping behavior with zero apparent benefits in return.  Please give us a choice in this matter or revert to CS6's intelligent drag-dropping altogether.

  • CC 2014 Ruler tool Straighten button is dimmed in layered files (Mac and Win versions)

I have a Grayscale/8 bpc file with a Levels Adjustment layer.
In CC 2014 I use the ruler tool to drag out a line and the notice the Straighten button in the Options bar is dimmed whether I have the Background layer or the adjustment layer selected. If I flatten the image the Straighten button is active.
In CC, if I select the Background layer, the Straighten button is active. Not if I select the Adjustment layer. Same behavior in CS6. (So the problem looks to be in CC2014 only)
This is noted in both the Mac and Windows versions of CC 2014.1.0 (which would leave out the OS and hardware glitches.)
Tried a flat grayscale file, added an adjustment layer, and noticed the same problem in CC 2014.  (that eliminates a buggy file)
The fact that at least with the Background layer selected in CC and CS6, the Straighten button is active, so this is looking like something specific to CC 2014.
Before I call it a "bug", I would like to know if anyone is seeing this or knows  of a fix?

Ok, changing the background layer does activate the straighten button without having to flatten the document.
I'll keep this question open for more feedback before marking it.

  • Media Encoder Crawls Except After Restart

    Hi,
Im running Premiere CC14 on a newer (2013) Mac Pro 3.5 GHZ 6-core with 64 GB RAM. When exporting a file to Media Encoder, the file only encodes quickly if it is directly after a restart. For example, after a restart a file may take 4-6 minutes to render a 2 minute animation-heavy sequence. But if I try rendering a second file or after a break - the same file can take 1-3 HOURS.
    Any suggestions?
Ive noticed the same behavior on CS6.
    Thx!
    Nate

    How long a while?
    -Jeff
It varies.  Maybe a couple of minutes, maybe an hour or more.  I shut down PPro about five minutes ago and it's still listed in Processes.
    Update:
It's been about an hour now and it still hasn't quit.

  • Vector images not sizing proportionally even holding while holding down shift.

    I use a Mac version 10.6.8 and Photoshop CS6.
When I copy and paste a vector image from Illustrator, the vector image is not be sized at 100%x 100%. It comes in at weird sizes like 100% x 98.33% (this is not consistent, it changes numbers). I have to go into the top to manually change it to 100%x100% while in Transform mode.
Also, after I change it to 100%x100% and try to scale by holding shift down, it will change again.
I'm not sure what's happening. I've been using Photoshop for quite a few years so it's not a beginner problem.
Does anyone know if there's an update to fix this problem or am I missing some setting somewhere?
    Thank you.

    Dr.
Simple to see if using default settings (ie Snap vector Tools is checked)
    • create new file 400 x 400 px
    • draw out rectangle shape, about 150 x 75 px
    • go Edit>Transform Path>Scale
    • now hold down Shift key as you scale shape. Look at the Width and Height percentages in the option bar as you scale. You'll notice they vary from each other. Slightly. This is different behavior in CS6 than previous versions.
It is more noticeable in a low res file. High res files will show less variation.

  • CS6 Building Histograms on every action

I am on OSX using Photoshop CS6.
For a couple months now I have experienced the "Building Histograms" dialog appearing on nearly every move or action; moving an object, adjusting a shape, zooming in & out, simply selecting an object.
The building of the histograms almost always takes up to 10+ seconds to complete.
I have followed other topics where there was no solid professional answer to the problem.  The closest thing everyone was able to pin it on was the use of an extension or add-on.  I have none of these.
In my opinion an update / fix should be applied for this.  I won't be interested in further debugging or providing information.  Simply stating that I am experiencing this for history sake.

There was a third party plugin that caused that, and a script installed by a prepress tool (under Event Scripts) that did something similar.
We could not find a bug in Photoshop that would cause that behavior - it was always caused by third party code that the user added to Photoshop.
We cannot put out a fix for third party code: you are going to have to debug your system to find out what plugin or script is causing it on your system.
