Histograms in aperature

i tried to use aperature after switching from lightroom but this program makes it hard to use. i cannot get my histogram to show in adjustments nor can i make adjustments, help

Is there a workaround for Photoshop CS6 Histogram?

I have noticed this and I am wondering if there is a more feasable workaround other than saving my work, closing the application and reopening the app.
Here are the steps:
Open a file (any file type compatible)
Open the histogram window
Open the layers window
If one layer / Background unlock
OR
Open file with multiple layers (image, mask, or adjustment)
In Layer window now deselect the background layer or all of the layers by clicking on the window below the layers (RIGHT under "Layer 0" in layer window)
The histogram changes to B&W histogram
The only way to revert to the previous Color display is to close PS CS6 and reopen it. Then you are back to the full histogram.
When editing multiple layers in files, or compositing, this is really an issue and slows down workflow.
Is there another workflow? I have attempted a couple workarounds but none have worked other than restart.
Any idea what is happening? or is anyone else running into this?
Just "Not selecting" is not an option.

Seems like that has happened for several versions.
To get back to Colors without restarting photoshop cs6, you can go to Expanded View and choose Colors from the drop-down list.

I have a table with 500000 rows.
So I have a query that returns only 30242 for a month, like:

Always treat dates like dates.

But, should this query use the index?
Touch and go at 6.63%.
Give it a go using dates as dates and see if it makes a difference.

Aperature vs iPhoto. Which to use in light of "Photos"?

I'm a little "stuck" and not sure which direction to take.
I had iPhoto a couple of years ago. I was completely happy. However, the number of photos I had was becoming to much for the version of iPhoto that came with my computer (mid 2010 MB Pro). I had 20,000 photos from 2005 to 2011. I was told to upgrade to Aperture. I did. For 2012, I have photos in Aperture. I have NOT learned to use Aperture to take advantage of its capabilities. I've enjoyed a few of the features (more flexible photobooks, photo structures, etc). I just haven't had time to do much else. Since 2013 I have been downloading photos every now and then and simply storing them in folders on my MB.
I missed the simplicity of iPhoto. Then I heard that the newer versions of iPhoto don't have problems with large libraries. But in order to get the new version of iPhoto, I would have to upgrade to Mavericks.
I did it. Then paid $15 for the newest version of iPhoto.
Now I hear Photos is coming.
I'm paralyzed and don't know what to do.
Do I keep the libraries separate and move forward with before 2011 in iPhoto and post 2011 in Aperature. Do I move the year of Aperature photos I have into iPhoto so they are all in one library? Do I merge the libraries?
I just need to get back to a workflow that will allow me to import my photos from folders into a photo program so I can SEE them and manage them well.
Looking for thoughts on where to go from here.

It will go from 66gb in iPhoto and 34 gb in Aperture to one file usable by both programs but that is 100gb.
All photos in one library will make it easier to search for photos, since you do not need to switch between libraries.
100 GB is still moderately sized. iPhoto or Aperture can handle 1000000 photos in one library.
If appears from the responses to my question that I can merge via iPhoto OR via Aperture. Does it matter which one I use to do the merge if I choose to do that?
No, iPhoto cannot merge libraries, but Aperture can. If you use Aperture to merge the libraries, the resulting library will still be a unified library that can be used with iPhoto or Aperture. There is no difference between the libraries.

You can use Aperture to import an iPhoto Library or on Aperture library into any library, that is currently open in Aperture. Use the command "File > Import > Library". This will merge the library items from the imported library into open library. It will preserve all events/projects, albums, books, keywords, faces, places. Importing a library as lib ray is the way o merge libraries.

Can't copy Aperature Library to external. Get this error "The operation can't be completed because an item is being modified."

I have been trying to find a solution to this problem by browsing this forum but I can't seem to find a solution.
As many others have decided to do I want to copy my Aperature library to an external FW 800 drive as my laptop space is dwindling. It seems all you need to do is copy the Library from the finder which can also be revealed in the preference if Aperature. When copying it seems to transfer for a few seconds but then I get this error "The operation can’t be completed because an item is being modified." I have formatted the drive correctly and there is no issues with Aperature itself so why do you think I am having this error? What can I do to copy this Library to my external?

Reboot your machine make sure Aperture doesn't start (as Lion is liable to do) and try it.

Performance issue with extreme data distribution using histogram

We have a performance stability issue which we later found out is cause by the bind variable and histogram for a particular column when it was use as part of equality predicate. Assume the column name is parent_id0.
There is also an index on parent_id0.
Our temporary workaround is to install the good plan when it is started.
This is on database 10.2.0.3. I have a table with 2570149 rows, there is one common value(value 0) that represent about 99.91% of the total rows.
When i do
select parent_id0, count(*)
from table1
group by parent_id0
order by parent_id0;
I'm getting 187 rows and i would assume to have 187 buckets to have a better representation. The first row have the count nearly to 99.91%. The rest rows are having count something like 1 or 2 or less than 200.
With the auto gather, Oracle came up with 5 bucket. When i check the sample size, i only see oracle uses 2.215% of all the total rows at that time.

When i trace the sql with 10053, i see something like this..seems like some value is not capture in the histogram.

Hi, its an OLTP environment.
The problem is this sql has 4 tables to join, table1 (2.5 mil rows), table2 (4 mil), table3 (4.6 mil) and table4 (20 mil)
By right, the table with the highest filter ratio is table1. However, from the plan, oracle is using table3 as the driving table. The moment i take away the parent_id0 as part of the predicate, Oracle choose the right driving table (table1).
Here is the sql structure
select ...
from table1, table2, table3, table4
where table1.id = :1 and table1.parent_id0 :=2
and ...
We have index on id column too.
From the application, the application will never pass in value 0 for the parent_id0. Therefore, we will be querying 0.09 percent all the time from that particular query.

I just transferred files from my PC to my new Mac mini. I had many many folders of photos on my PC with each folder containing pictures from a certain time window or occasion. is there an easy way maintain this sorting of pictures in iPhoto/Aperature?

i am trying to make heads or tails of my pictures now after the import but there seems to be no organization left at all.
many pictures seem to also have lost (or never had) a date associated with them. so these photos seem to be placed randomly throughout the library.
i'm ready to take on the daunting task of organizing the pictures all over again, but just don't know where to start.
any tips would be appreciated. realize this is a pretty loaded question.
i also have Aperature on my computer as well using the same library of photos, if that would help manage my photos better.

View Menu -> Sort Photos is a good way to start.
Some organising possibilities in iPhoto:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

Is Aperture installed in the "Application"s folder and simply named Aperture? If not, move it back to "Applications". Did you buy Aperture from the App Store or as a boxed Retail version?
Relaunch the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID (in the Store menu). Reload the "Purchased" page of the App Store. Do see Aperture on the Purchased tab or perhaps the "Accept" portion of the "Purchased" page? If in the "Accept" portion, accept it to your AppleID and install it. Else look again at the Update page.
For some forum members the update did only appear until after setting the primary system language to English and rebooting the Mac. This bug is supposed to have been fixed with the update to 10.9.1, but try it, if all else should fail.

Cannot open Aperature after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I upgraded my macbook pro to snow leopard. Now I cannot open my Aperature (2.1.4). Anyone else have this problem? I keep getting an error box telling me that Aperature has shut down unexpectantly. I try to restart it and all I get is the same error box.

"hmmm, did you relink the template from a new location, or did you put it in the same location and then relink it" What do you mean by relinking? I did put it into the same directory. When I bring DVD SP up without loading this project, I have the menus and can double click on the menus to to bring it up in the viewer. At this point, I think I should try to do a new project to see if this error repeats itself. As long as I can build and burn on my Mac Book Pro, I am OK. Is it possible that the file itself became corrupted somehow? Just a thought. Thank you for your help.

How to export photos from aperature to an sd card

Multiple plots (different colours) on a single histogram?

I have a 2D array of data, and I would like to plot a histogram.
each row(with 8 elements) would be plotted in pairs, in 2 different colours.
My chart would have to look something like the attached image.
My vi is also attached. Right now it displays the plot (one row for now),but I have a few problems:
1) How to change the colour of each bar (to be like the excel graph)
2) how to change the bar plot label ( so instead numeric values 1,2,3,...I would like to have a,b,c,... under each bar)
3)and how to remove the (0,0) point on the graph, so you could see the first bar entirelyy, instead of partially.
I tried bundling the data , dynamic data, and a a bunch of other things but couldnt get it to work.

You can create a histogram of each row by connecting the output of the General Histogram or Histogram VI's (in the Statistics Palette) to a Build Array. Connect the output of Build Array to a Histogram Graph. You can create a Histogram Graph by right clicking on the General Histogram or Histogram VI's Histogram Graph output terminal( Create>>Indicator). That should show you both histograms with different colors in one graph(they may be overlapping though, use the Bar Plots options to see what view is best). Unfortunately, I don't see how you could display it like the graph you posted, but you may create a button that controls a Histogram Graph by using Property Nodes. Right click on the Histogram Graph indicator in the Block Diagram(Create>>Property Node>>Plot>>Visible). If you connect a Boolean control to this property node and place that piece of code inside a while loop, you could turn your plots on and off. You can also create an Invoke Node(Right Click>>Create>>Invoke Node>>Export data to Excel) to Export data to Excel. Make sure you expand the Plot Legend on the upper right corner so you can see the second plot options.

How can I convert (or switch) the RGB percent values from the LR histogram into RGB values which are shown e. g. in PS/CameraRAW?

In LR 5.5 (same in previous versions) the RGB values in the histogram are shown in percent (relativ) values. I prefere to see the absolute values, but I can`t find any way to switch. Maybe this option is intentional disabled, because LR works in 16-Bit mode this would result in values up to 2^16. But as i compared the relativ values from LR with the absolute values from PS i run into a conversion problem. The following example shows the differences:
CameraRAW : RGB, 128,0,0
Lightroom: RGB, 43,8%, 19,0%, 6,2%
CameraRAW: RGB, 0,128,0
Lightroom: RGB, 29,8%, 47,5%, 17,5%
Mainly i have two questions:
1. Is there any possibility to change the percent RGB values in LR to absolut values?
2. How can i convert CameraRAW values to LR values (see above)?

TThe reason that a design decision was made from the beginning of LR to show only the percentage values was that RGB values are dependent on the color space and the LR histogram and numerical readout are derived from the Develop module's display space which is a hybrid color space with ProPhoto RGB primaries and the sRGB TRC. Thus the numerical values in the display would be different from the exported RGB image (in an orthodox space) and it was feared that this would be misleading. When soft proofing was introduced, because it involved converting the display to an orthodox space, it became possible to use the 0-255 scale in that mode.

Aperature crashed after 3.3 update. I am a novice at best when working with restore functions. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I had the 3.3 update window with Aperature pop up and say that I could no longer work with my library until updating Aperature. The update froze up about 90% through the completion of the last set(9 of 9/ 90% complete) and ran over night. My MAC shows version 3.3 installed. When I try to open Aperature, I get a system crash error. I am a novice at best when working with software and I am panicing because of the amount of pictures that I have on the system. I do back them up but do not know how to restore Aperature software(I purchased it before the app store and can not find it). Please advise.
