Histograms with preview images in Bridge

I don,t think this feature exists but it would be great to have a Histogram which shows clipping next to preview images in the bridge (something you can turn on and of in the menu) without having to go into Raw converter or photoshop.
I also have a question regarding RAw images from some cameras, (phase p25 for one) when dropped into the bridge seem to be much darker than they are with there proprietry software almost like the gammas out by a stop or two and the Histograms bear this out also, any ideas?

I agree, to be able to compare, not only images but their respective histograms in Bridge would be very handy in certain circumstances!

In CS5, Win7...go to File, then Open...do you see .PSD thumbnails with preview images?
In all other versions of Photoshop, I can see a preview of the image, even .psd files, but with CS5 now, I just see the PSD icons...this again, is when you go to File, then Open...  Anyone else see this?  In Elements 9, I see the preview thumbnail icon, not generic, same with CS3 and Elements 7, but not with CS5?

Well, I was thinking if others tried on their Win7 system, they could let me know if they get the same result or different...so by comparison I could see if I had an issue with my software, such as if it were standard...  However, I did figure it out...  It's a 32-bit vs. 64-bit difference.  Elements 9 is a 32-bit software, and so is CS5 32-bit of course....so both of those softwares show .psd thumbnails in the File, Open view...but the 64-bit does not...in Win7 64-bit...in case anyone else is wondering...

  • Problem with Preview panel in Bridge CS3

    Hello,
I've got a problem and I don't seem to get rid of it.
When I use the Adobe Bridge, everything seemds to work fine, EXCEPT... for the preview panel.
It just keeps on showing a 'blank gap' or blank window, from where I can see a part of my Desktop through.
I hope this picture makes it more clear.
    http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e39/Stef_r/2009-02-08_000747.png
Als, when I select a photo in Bridge, it doesn't show up in the preview panel. It just keeps on showing the freezed picture of the part of my desktop.
I use Windows Vista on my laptop now, and that's were the problem is.
On my old XP laptop, with much lower performance, it worked fine under Windows XP.
    http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e39/Stef_r/2009-02-08_000843.png
Does anyone recognise this problem or has a solution for it?
I have allready tried reinstalling both my laptop with Vista as wel reinstalling the Adobe suite.
    Thanks for the responce!
    With kind regards,
    Stefan

    Thanks for the replies!
Although I still haven't found the real problem for it, the preview panel keeps on freezing, I do have a wokaround found for it.
Because I have a docking station for my laptop, with some free slots in it, I bought a second hand Video Card with 512MB and better performance than the on-board card in the laptop.
I hooked up a external LCD monitor to it and now it works just fine, with no additional modifications in Bridge.
So, although the Bridge / video card still occurs on the laptop, I don't mind working this way.
Maybe a newer driver in the future will solve this problem.
    Kind regards,
    Stefan

  • How do I make a PDF Slideshow from Bridge CS4 with 500 images?

Every year I go for an extended photo shooting trip. I use about 400 to 600 of the images to make a PDF slide show. This worked fine in all previous versions of Bridge, but no longer works properly in Bridge CS4. I can create PDF files with up to 329 images, but when I try to make a PDF file with more than that, the PDF file is corrupted. Sometimes, the PDF file opens, but about 10% of the image at random location are corrupted, and their thumbnails show up as white or black patches. At other times, the file does not open in Adobe Reader. I get a variety of error messages. The most common is #109.
Just to be certain it is not caused by my images, I used 550 images I had used to make a PDF show last year with Bridge CS3. I get the same problem. The slide show created last year with 550 images in Bridge CS3 still works in Adobe Reader, ruling out the Reader a being the cause of the problem. It appears that some bug has crept into the CS4 Bridge code.
Unfortunately, a while ago a deleted CS3 from my hard drives without making a copy of the downloaded dmg of CS3, so I can no longer re-install CS3. BTW, other than this bug, I am very happy with CS4. As a photographer, I find the improvements made in CS4 ACR stunning.
Is there a known work-around for this bug?
Is it likely to be fixed in an upcoming update?
Is there a way I can download a copy of CS3 allowing me to install CS3 Bridge, or, if needed, the whole CS3 suite?
(I still have a record of my CS3 registration code.)

I found an answer to my own question. A work around of sorts.
Download Photoshop Elements 6 for Macintosh. With PSE6 I made a slide show with 550 images 1920x1200, without thumbs. I ran into one problem making the slide show. My images contained 4 images which had not ben created by Photoshop and could not be included in the slide show. Opening the images in Photoshop CS4 and re-saving them still did not make then acceptable. Not a big deal. I probably could have fixed the four images by stripping all EXIF data before opening them in Photoshop. BTW, PSE6 made the slide show in demo mode.
I hope the bug in Photoshop CS4 will be fixed in Photoshop CS5.

  • Preview image does not match content image

I have been using Bridge CS3 on MAC OS X 10.4 for about 2 years and have happily used it as part of my image processing work flow for thousands of images. A Canon 1DS is my main camera. Some time ago I have started using a Canon G9 in addition to the 1DS. So far so good.
Recently and for no reason I can see, Bridge has started displaying an entirely different image in the preview panel than the image selected in the content panel. This only seems to happen when selecting RAW G9 images in the content panel; the image shown in the preview panel will be a processed PSD file originally taken on the 1DS, or a 1DS RAW image (of an entirely different subject and processed months earlier). Needless to say, the file name format of RAW G9 images and processed / RAW 1DS images is entirely different. What ever Bridge is using to marry content image selected with preview image displayed, its getting it wrong. I should add that that this doesn't always happen all of the time - but it does happen about 25% of the time.
When I open in ACR I get the correct image. Also Bridge meta data refers to the correct image. It is just preview that is incorrect.
I have compacted and refreshed the cache. This resolves the issue the first time I go back in and select images from the content panel, but if I reselect, I'm back where I started.
    Has anyone ever experienced this?
(in preferences against "When Creating Thumbnails Generate:" I have "Convert To High Quality When Previewed". Also I have both "Use Software Rendering" and "Use High-quality Previews" checked. I'm using Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9)
    Many thanks, Tom

I had this with my Canon30D files as well. Spurious previews. I met with Adobe in person and went over this. I then moved to Bridge 3.x and went over why I needed high quality images and the person I was working with took many copies of my images to work on the high quality previews.
I found when I went to one of the 3.x versions of Bridge, this was corrected and I got to use High Quality without the spurious previews.
I did not have to give up my High Quality. At least not in my case.
I will note that I was on the prerelease member site and so did get Bridge 3.x versions that may not have made it to the public, hard to know as I have since moved on to CS4.
I remember a time when I could not use the global purge command and had to throw away all cache folders but this is no longer the case.
I think Adobe did all they could to fix this issue and still feel that it was incredible that they met with me several times and did conference calls with 6-7 engineers in the room with me and how they really seemed to want to know what was up.
So I, for one, cannot say there will remain a black eye. Adobe was very supportive with me.
b One thing though, I could not use "software render" ever with any success.

  • I am unable to get same preview image colors in Bridge and Lightroom

I am unable to get same file preview in Bridge and Lightroom. The Lightroom preview image (in both the Library and Develop) is more de-saturated. But the exported/saved jpegs match. If I try to match the Lightroom preview image to the Bridge preview image, the resulting Lightroom  export colors are off. I have tried this with images with no changes and with changes and the result is the same. I have Lightroom 5.6 and CR 8.6. I am using the latest version of Bridge.
I contacted Adobe support and followed all instructions to try to fix but the problem remains. This comment was made after several solutions were tried, including updating Lightroom. :
Adobe: there would be little difference in case of preview of Bridge CC and Lightroom 5. However, after exporting it would be same. Both use different technology at the background and work in a different way. The preview which you see in lightroom is not the actual image but incase of Bridge you see the actual image ( original ). That's the reason there is a color variation between previews.
Me: But how can I then use the Lightroom preview to get accurate colors when processing a RAW file? If I do adjustments to the RAW file in Lightroom it looks different when exported. That doesn't seem to make sense when Lightroom is designed for photograhy
Adobe: Please check in develop module of lightroom.
Me: Nothing changes in the develop mode. The image looks the same as in the preview/Library mode.
This screenshot shows the unmodified images in Develop (Lightroom) and ACR (Bridge). The color differences are significant.
Lightroom exported jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in Develop (which looks like Bridge preview image not the Lightroom preview)
Bridge saved jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in ACR
Any suggestions on what I need to do to Lightroom to make it show accurate colors. If not, I don't see any point in using it to process files.
    Thanks, Marie

Bridge is just a browser. It displays according to the embedded color profile but assumes sRGB for all untagged images.
In Lightroom library previews use Adobe RGB and in Develop the working space is Pro Photo RGB.
The real question is why use both Bridge and Lightroom. Stick to one, not both.

  • Images not previewing properly in Bridge CS4

I just did a reformat & reinstall of my whole system. I opened Bridge to get back to work and none of my images will preview accurately in Bridge. They just show as horizontal and vertical pixelated representations of the image. I did not have a problem with Bridge until after the reinstall. Anyone have any ideas?
System details: Dell Dimension 8250 (I know, it's a dionsaur, but it works...for now), Windows XP Pro SP3, 1.5gb ram, Intel P4 3.06GHz HT
    Thanks, Dana

    Hi Dana,
Which settings are you considering and what are the performance issues?
You can optimize for certain workflows that will adjust processor intensive work, such as only generating large previews when displayed. If you're strictly talking about video card accelerated features, I think it's more a matter of On or Off as opposed to performance tuning. I just did a quick look and with video card acceleration enabled, in Full Screen Preview you can pan the image at magnifications much smoother.

  • Bridge CC / How to use all cores to generate preview images?

    Hi!
Is there anyway to tell Brdige, that it should use all my cores to generate the preview images?
Actually it uses only 25% of my CPU performance. I've a Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3,4 GHZ, with four cores and enabled hyperthreading, also eight virtual CPUs.
At least it could be FOUR times faster, if it would use all available cores, but so I get one preview per second (12 MP RAWs). So I've to wait in case of 1.000 RAWs round about 15 minutes. If would use all CPUs, which are available, it could increase speed up to 4 minutes. More then 10 minutes saved.
As there any chance, or does Adobe have no interest, like it has no interest to speed up LightRoom?
If there is any chance, I would be very pleased.
    Thanks

    It's really frustrating:
While Adobe Camera RAW is able to process different images in parallel and speeding up the process.
Other teams of Adobe are still telling me, that it's impossible to process several images in parallel and speeding up the Bridge thumbnail and preview generating process:

I do not get it. :-(

  • Viewing multiple images in Bridge preview

Hi - whenever I try an view more that 9 images in Bridge I only get a preview of 9 - no more ( in essentials view) anyone know why this would be?

(and makes some odd layout decisions to make sure it is only 9).
You are right about the odd layout and also the odd way of inconsistency Bridge handles its option for rating in multiple workspaces and panels. They should work on that and I believe (hope...) they are doing so for the next version. But having an unlimited amount of previews in the preview window is not the best idea to my opinion because when you select the lot in the content window it would mean even much smaller then thumbnails previews in the preview panel. It seems something as the best of both as it is now but again, they automatically layout choice of the preview window is mostly unusable and you are more then right at that point.
A second minor for me would be that choosing between more then nine files in detail is also not easy. Although I'm using a very big (30") cinema display personal more then 4 HQ previews for detail comparing is pointless for me but that is my workflow :-)
Using the content panel in Light Table workspace could help if you increase the size of the thumbs but this is very processor and memory consuming so you have to own quite a configuration to make this an easy workflow.
Using the review mode is also not my favorite sorting method but I do like the full screen preview using tab. I have set preferences to build monitor sized previews and when I want to choose I select the similar files and with arrow keys run through them for the first choice. Rating with the cmd + . (dot) and cmd + , (comma) for increasing and decreasing stars and for final choice use a few in the preview panel next to each other.
I often state, so many users so many workflows, it's not easy to produce an app that fit's them all...

  • No thumbnail images in icons with Preview since reinstall of Tiger

Since a HDD crash and reinstall of Tiger at Apple Store with updates to 10.4.11, Preview.app is now NOT making image thumbnails but only shows an icon with the Preview logo and file type, ie. JPEG, PNG.
Also in Folders most images, but not all, are not showing up as they used to with miniature images.
This makes it very hard to tell what the image is merely with a number for the filename.
I tried deleting the plist but that didn't help. Anyone have any suggestions how to get real thumbnails back?

    Hi BDAqua,
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried it several times to no avail and noticed that an older version of Preview which had been archived on an external drive was 13.2 MB on disk while the one which the Apple Store put onto the new hard drive was only 3 MB, even though they are both v3.0.9 (build 409) I've tried both and there doesn't appear to be any difference in functionality.
Still no thumbnails except on a few .jpgs. They do work from iPhoto if they are normal .jpg pictures if I drag the pic to the desktop from the iPhoto Library, but not panoramas which have been stitched, photos which have been cropped, modified or .gif or .tiff.
Guess we'll just have to keep looking for the answer to why they won't show up all the time.
    Thanks anyway.

  • CS3 Bridge: Preview image too small

    Hi,
    Here's what I'm using:
    Photoshop CS3: 10.0.1
    Bridge: 2.1.1.9
    ACR: 4.6.0.30
No matter what mode I coose (lightbox, horizontal/vertical filmstrip ...), the preview image occupies a very small part of the preview pane and I find no way to resize it. The thumnail pane and the thumbnail images themselves are resizable all right.
I tried purging the cache and that didn't help.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

    Hi,
I wanted to report another experiment that possibly points out where the problem is.
    Case 1:
I placed the preview and content panes one above the other. Like so (preview pane at the top):
Then I started pulling the horizontal separator between the two panes to shrink the size of the lower pane and this caused the preview image to starting to get bigger to fit the preview pane real estate space. Look at the image below (and note that the bigger image is not rendered correctly) and note that at the time of taking the screenshot, I did not yet release the horizontal separator:
Finally, just as I released the horizontal separator bar, the image in the preview pane got resized to its initial small size:
    Any clue?
    Thanks,
    Prabal.

  • Bridge bug with DICOM images

Photoshop supports DICOM images, but Bridge does not show DICOM image thumbnails, and I have not figured out how to open DICOM images in PS from Bridge.
It seems the only way to open DICOM images is from the File..Open.. menu in Photoshop.
    TomS

It looks like I need to add a .dcm suffix and change the "Open with" property of .dcm to Photoshop to image thumbnails.
    I'm using OS X 10.6.8.
    The files have no suffix.
The icon displayed in Bridge is a, top to bottom, dark grey to light grey gradient with the word "exec" in green text in the upper left hand corner.
Apple's finder also displays the same icon.
Bridge wants to open the file in Terminal.
If I change the "open with" property of the file to PS, I can make Bridge open it in Photoshop, but I still get no thumbnail in Bridge.
If I change the "open with" property to PS and I add a .dcm suffix, then Bridge creates a proper thumbnail.
OS X is generally not very picky about suffixes so I never thought of adding .dcm.
    Thanks
    TomS
