Historical iMessages: 'Cloud-thing' or 'delivery-thing'?

Hi all,
I've just upgraded to Mountain Lion and can send/receive iMessages which then appear on my iPhone just fine. However, I'd like to know if it is possible for historical iMessages (e.g. iMessages I sent/received on my iPhone prior to upgrading my Mac OS X) to appear in Messages on my Mac?
I guess my question relates to where iMessages are stored... is it a 'cloud thing' where messages are pulled down by whatever device you have set up, or is it a 'delivery thing' where each time you add a new device iMessages are synced to that device from that point onwards.

Hi,
"Historical" iMessages only date back as far a "Start Point" between the iPhone and OS version of Messages.
Generally this is the day you set up Messages in Mountain Lion and add the Apple ID to the iPhone.
They are held in a database on the Mac (~/Library/Messages)
The new place for Saved Chats is also here (~/Library/Messages/Archive)
Syncing is really "Display on all devices" rather than keeping what you do to the iMessages up to date.
This may mean an iMessages read on your iPhone and deleted may still appear on your Mac.
Deleting the database is enough to "lose" the history on the Mac version of Messages.
It will not "download" the messages again from the server.
There are differences about how fast a Messages appears on iOS devices as a iMessages and in Syncing compared to when and how fast it appears on the Mac version of Messages.
If the Mac is Off line for a period current "Conversations" will be "downloaded" in a speeded up chat sort of manner. Current iMessages can get mixed up when this happens.
I have not been able to work out if there is a consistent timing thing that can be used in keeping the Mac version Off line ans still getting Syncing updates of "past" messages.

Well, the web site building we can get out of the way rather easily: You cannot build websites with any Photoshop related applications. Adobe has other applications for that.
You can still buy the full version of Photoshop CS6 with a perpetual license—no monthly payments and you own it. $700 for the standard version, $1,000 for the extended version.
The Photographer's deal gives you a subscription to both Photoshop and Lightroom for $10 per month, but you never get to own the software. The moment you stop paying, the software ceases to work.
The Cloud thing is not really on-line. It resides on your computer. It only has to call the mother ship once a month or so.
Then there's the bargain-basement priced, emasculated Photoshop Elements, with some hand-holding features.
I'm a septuagenarian too, but then I've been using computers for decades, Photoshop seriously for over twelve years. Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Depending on exactly how much editing you need to do to those products shots, you may be satisfied with Ps Elements mentioned above.
There are trial versions for all of the above.

I updated my ipod now its on the cloud thing and it wont connect to my conputer

What do you mean "now its on the icloud thing"?
Did you update via iTunes?
Were all the synced media such as apps and music in the iTunes library you did the update on?
What happens when you connect the iPod to your computer?
Did you sync the iPod to a computer (different one?) before?

I have tried that as well. The purchased songs are not in my playlists and they are still there. I manually deleted them on the phone but the sync puts them right back on there.
I only sync playlists and they aren't on there.

Should I buy the newest CS6 photoshop or just do the creative cloud thing?

What are the benifits of the creative clould vs just getting the CS6 software. Will i get everything that is in CS6 in the creative cloud?

I agree, first time purchasers of PS may get a better deal with CC. I was referring to most of us who have been upgrading. I recently paid $199 to upgrade to CS6. I think that option is still available.

motovated to produce new features and a great product as ever...
I feel Adobe is still producing new features for CC to entice folks like me to upgrade to it -- just like with the old incentive model. But once a majority of their customer-base is on board as subscribers, I suspect significant investment to innovate will take a hit. Not because Adobe employees make that decision, they're a great bunch of folks, but because the Adobe management/marketing suits make that decision. Employees take direction from management, and management answers to the stock holders -- not us. It's just business -- nut'n personal.

Can I simply upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 without doing the Creative Cloud thing?

I don't want to start paying a monthly fee, but might be intereted in upgrading my CS5.5 to version 6.0.
I can read the FAQ's where others have asked this question - and the answer seems to be yes, but with no instructions - and there is no where on the site that I can find it as an option.

call the APPLE store, even though it reconize you purchase them already, APPLE will charge you again. it happened to me. when u call them they can resend them to your phone FREE of charge. It makes no sense, i mean they know you already purchase them, then y dont they just allow us to redownload them free of charge.SMDH

So I installed photoshop cc on the creative cloud thing. Now how do I open it? It has the list of apps on the browser thing and I don't see photoshop cc anywhere..

OK, with windows 8.1 the apps are not automatically on the start page. At the bottom of the page you should see a downward arrow. Click on that to bring up all the apps installed on your computer. You can right click on photoshop to pin it to the start page or the desktop taskbar. In any of these places you can click on it or double click on it to run photoshop.
If you do not see photoshop listed under the adobe apps in the all apps page, then odds are it is not installed or was installed incorrectly.

In order to recover something that info has to exist. Where is it? Tell us where your data is backed up and you will get your answer. Places where your contacts can be recovered from: Facebook app, emails like gmail or yahoo, windows contacts, Mac contacts/address book, outlook, exchange, iCloud backup, iCloud synced contacts(that one is unlikely, or you wouldn't be here), iTunes backup.

Yes. As long as the item you purchased is available and not yet modified and you will be using the same account to redownload. You'll also need to go to the Purchased page of your account of course to redownload the songs.

Group iMessage: separate threads for delivery

When I group message two of my friends through iMessage, their responses are delivered to me separately. They seem to be receiving all of the messages in one unified thread, but mine have been separated. So I get two separate boxes, both labeled "Jane and John," but Jane's responses show up in one and John's show up in the other. How can I fix this so that their responses become unified? I've tried deleting both threads, but then they show up separately again when they write to me.

The issue I had was with my partners phone. It was sending from her email which was splitting the message thread if she sent messages that came through as SMS rather than iMessage. So I had 2 split conversations running.
Its a simple fix on iPhone...
Goto.....Settings, Messages, Receive at, sign out of your apple ID.
Thats it.
If when you go in there and you are signed in you will see "You can be reached for messages at:"
If you are signed in it will use your email by default rather than your phone number. Signing out refers it back onto your number instead. Now all messages are from the one sender.

HT201412 My iMessage keeps giving me a delivery failure message

Does anyone know why my iMessage keeps giving a "delivery failure" message ever since I downloaded the lasted iOS ?

Sometimes, all that you need to do is to close the app and reset the iPad. I would start with that.
To close apps in iOS 5 or iOS 6 -Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
To close an app in iOS 7 - drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

IMessages on Mac don't appear on iPhone

Yesterday I sent a couple of photos via iMessage on my Macbook. But they didn't show up on the iPhone. Right after sending the photos, I sent a regular text message, which did show up on the iPhone. Does this mean the photos were not sent and I should try again?
The photos were sent to a group (both iPhone users). iMessage will not show a delivery status for groups (at least on the Mac).

Have you activated the delivery status in the iMessage app on the Mac?
I think the whole iMessage-Mac-thing is still a little bit buggy. On my MacBook the behaviour of the app was kind of weird several times.
