History, Downloads and previous tabs wiped out upon re-boot

I have looked at all of the posts on this but none of the solutions proposed works. As long as I do not reboot my computer, the history and tabs are retained. As soon as I reboot, everything (downloads, tabs, history) gets wiped out. This just started a few days ago so the question is, what has changed? How do I figure out what has triggered this problem?

To my knowledge, Firefox doesn't do any different kind of clean-up when you restart your computer compared with when you close and restart Firefox in between Windows boots.
If the problem is limited to Windows restarts, I suspect that some external software might be involved. For example, software that cleans up personal data or software used to "sandbox" your browser so that it can't store settings directly on the hard drive. Do either of those sound like potential factors on your system?
Do you know what the IOBit Apps Toolbar extension is for? One description I saw in a search was some kind of adware. If that just showed up recently, it could be that some "free" software you installed includes unexpected or unwanted components and may be affecting Firefox. At a minimum I suggest disabling that extension here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
You might consider making additional backups of your settings folder. This would capture the last state of your history/bookmarks file (places.sqlite) and open tabs (sessionstore.js) so that if necessary you could restore them. Depending on what is clearing these files, you might need to store them externally (e.g., on a USB flash drive or in cloud storage). These might help:

Before you updated your phone, did you back it up? Your iTunes should have done that before you update it, so that once it finished, you could restore it back and retrieve all your apps and music. Also, it's important that you transfer your apps onto your itunes before updating, otherwise, you'll have to download them all over again, which can be a hassle. The plus side? Once you've purchased an app using your apple acc, you can download it again and again, with no added fees. Don't worry, it's totally free.
As for setting up a new acc, you should be able to restore it back once you sync your phone back and click 'restore'. So there really is no need to create a new one.

Keyboard shortcuts in terminal.app for moving to next and previous tabs

Hi,
In Terminal.app, if you click on the Window menu item, it tells you that the keyboard shortcuts for moving to the next and previous tab are ⌘} and ⌘{.
When I try to use those shortcuts however all I get is it beeping at me.
The only way I've found to move from tab to tab is ⌘-shift--> and ⌘-shift-<-
What do I have to do to get the ⌘} style shortcuts working??

HT4972 I have an iphone 4s and it's telling me that there is a software update available to iOS 6. When I got to "settings" on my phone, the "download and install" tab is not highlited and I can't click on it to get the update.

Below that, it says that this update requires a Wi-Fi network connection to download. So I connected my phone to my computer and tried to update throug itunes. When I clicked the update tab on itunes on my laptop, an alert pops up that says I need to be connected to the internet for th update to take place. I am confused because I am connected to the internet, but for some reason the connection is not being recognized when I try to update.
I am using a Gateway laptop and my internet connection is a verizon 4g device that I plug into a USB port. I feel like this should be so simple but have not been able to figure it out even when I called Apple and spoke to a rep...help!

In order to download to your phone over the air, you need to be connected to WiFi.
It's possible the Internet connection through Verizon is not stable enough for the downlaod to begin (it is a very large download).
You might want to head over to Starbucks with your laptop for the afternoon and see if you can download it over their WiFi.

"previous recipients" wiped out?

hello,
imac running tiger using mail. our battery backup failed and the machine was shut down unexpectedly.
thus the previous recipients have been wiped out in my mail.
is there any way to get them back? client does not save them in her address book so she does not have any record of them in there.
i do have daily backups of the clients mail...

Sorry, but there's no way to get them back. If your client is going to be emailing those people regularly, she should be saving them in her Address Book.

I cannot get the updates for ipad to download. when it gets ready to process the file an error message pops up saying the software was unable to download and the network timed out. any suggestions...

i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out. I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message. I cannot restore the factory settings either. The same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? It did this when trying to update to 4.2. I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update. Thanks.

How can you set up a custom keyboard shortcut for Next Tab and Previous Tab?

You can do this in Chrome because there is a top menu item for it, and OS X supports easily rebinding of keyboard shortcuts that are in the main menus.
Is this possible in Firefox? Using a two handed shortcut to switch tabs is annoying when you want to keep one hand on the mouse!

What is wrong if you insert a disc to download and it spits it out and says it is untitled

I am trying to download Office Mac 2011 to Macbook and it spits it out and says it is untitled. This is the second disc I have got. DVD's are playing find.

Are you trying to install MS Office for Mac from the CD? No reason why it shouldn't read unless your SuperDrive needs cleaning/is dying, etc. You can always just download Office from Microsoft and use the activation key found on your CD sleve to activate. Try http://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial - this says it's the 'trial' version but it's the same that is on the CD. Just use your activation key to 'buy'.

Issues with 'next' and 'previous' buttons grayed out in 'Preview'

First off.. HELLO MAC FORUM!! Woo hoo!!
I just got a MacBook Pro and I'm LOVING it.. I'm having one small issue that I can't find help with after googling.. when I'm in 'Preview' viewing pics my 'next' and 'previous' buttons are grayed out and I've looked in preferences and don't see where to change this so that I can click through the pics in a folder.. it's pretty annoying and there absolutely HAS to be a way to get this going.. help please!!

On the Safari Window menu there is a keyboard shortcut for selecting the next/previous tab. What is the key stroke for the arrow with the straight line in front & behind? I know what the control symbol is (^) but I don't know the other one and can't find any information on it.

Mac OS and Application Settings Wiped Out

Hi folks,
I shut down my MBP earlier today and started it up this evening to find that all of my desktop settings, system settings, application settings, and desktop/dock icons are all gone and set to default. It's like I'm using an entirely new profile. I have checked to see if my home directory is renamed and it isn't. All of my normal icons are within <user>/Desktop. I have one application in particular called SofToken which is critical to me being able to VPN into work, and the settings for it are wiped out...the only way for me to fix that is to be physically connected to the corporate network which isn't an option right now. So for work purposes (which is what this laptop is for), I'm hosed.
I have tried a simple reboot. Tried repairing permissions (with a reboot). I don't have a time machine backup (yes, shame on me).
I've googled this extensively and have found a number of similar questions with no definitive answers. Surely someone knows what the deal is and how to fix it. I'm not a Mac OS wizard, as I'm a recent convert from a life long addiction to Windows.
I have not installed a program or an update for DAYS, so it should not be that.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

I figured this out. Somehow the home directory for my account got changed to /. Not really sure how that happened, but once I changed it back to /Users/<username> all my settings came back. A note for anyone trying to figure out if this happened to you...right click on your blank desktop and click "Get Info". The location under "Where" will tell you where the Desktop folder is located on your hard drive. If it isn't /Users/<your_username> there is a good chance your account's home directory got changed. To fix, go into System Preferences>Accounts>Right Click your Account and go under Advanced Options to change the home directory. If the blank desktop is under /Users/<your_username> then your original home directory likely got renamed.
Once my settings came back, however, the Desktop was still blank. I had an empty Desktop folder in / from my messed up home directory, and I couldn't delete it through Finder. So a quick trip to terminal and a
sudo su root
cd /
rm -r Desktop
then a logout and login and my Desktop was back to it's normal self.

Strange Issue: Hyperion Planning forms becomes read-only and data is wiped out: 11.1.2.2

Let me start by saying that I am not new to Hyperion Planning. We are experience a weird issue in our System Test. We notice that some (NOT ALL) of our webforms turn into readonly webforms; all the cells on the form at greyed out. This is inspite of the fact that the read-only checkbox is unchecked on the form as well as security is fine on all dimensions ; basically all the cells on the form are valid combinations.
Still the form become readonly and all the data in that form is wiped-out. this happened only for two web forms so far. We are running bunch of calcs(none of the calcs have cleardata command). we are not sure why is this happening. this might be some bug in the product... not sure. has anyone seen this behaviour before ?

IOS 6 update, and data being wiped out on apps...

I just updated my phone last night and all the photos that were in a private photo album app all got wiped out. I have been doing regular backups to iCloud, and all app data is supposed to be stored there, but I don't know how to get the data back? Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

This isn't an itunes app. I thought this was the icloud discussion group.

Contacts and address book wiped out when syncing iphone

HELP!! All my address book contacts on my computer and all my iphone contacts were wiped out after syncing. Sadly, I have never backed up. I've gotten as far as library>app support>address book, but the files are computer mumbo jumbo with bits and pieces of my old info thrown in. Is there any way to convert this to human speak??? Contact info is included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process - if any of the data on your iPhone that is included with the backup has changed since the last sync.
If you haven't synced your iPhone again since the contact info was lost with the last sync, do not sync again and try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.
If this restores your contact info, before syncing contact info with the Address Book on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book on your Mac. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This should provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select.
