  • HELP. How to escalate in a genuine emergency?

    Background (rather long, sorry):
We live in England but have a 2nd home in rural Wales (family history).  Both homes have phone and broadband via BT.  Both homes are in areas with near-zero mobile coverage but we route the mobile signal through the broadband.  The BT line is our only comms.
The house in Wales is technically billed via my mother (again, family history).
In November, she got email from BT confirming her order to disconnect the line in Wales.  Obviously she did not put this order in.  Obviously, because we have a disabled child who has a number of severe medical conditions including Epilepsy and we have frequently had to call an ambulance for her in the middle of the night.  The phone is, literally, a lifeline.  BT are aware of this, we are registered for priority fault repair.  Mum went into a panic.
I called BT and got through to what I imagine was the billing team.  They agreed that the order had probably come from someone who had got the wrong address/number/whatever and was a mistake.  I explained, again, that my daughter could die if we couldn't call an ambulance in the middle of the night, and they assured me, they GUARANTEED that they understood the seriousness of  the issue and the phone would not be disconnected.  They cancelled the order while I was on the phone, with explanatory notes to stop it being re-raised.
We didnt go up to Wales again for some months - my daughter was ill and then had surgery - but came up for Easter.  We arrived on 8th April to find (you guessed this already, didn't you?) that the phone had been cut off.
Without mobile reception, I had to go round to a neighbours' and beg the use of their phone (it's a holiday complex so I was lucky they were in) and wifi.  I looked up on My BT and found that BT had been billing our account all along so reported it as a fault.  The fault team at first tried to tell me I didn't have any BT products and must have got the wrong supplier but I eventually managed to get them to look at the billing records and they acknowledged that the phone had been cut off in November and they had been taking money from us since then without providing service.  But they couldn't fix it or even report the fault because their computer systems only let them log faults for active numbers.  The only way to resolve it was with a new order for fresh connection, but the order team weren't in.
The next morning, I called new orders, from the car park in ASDA where i have a little reception.  They were very sympathetic and took a lot of details (they are sales people after all) but gave me a date for connection of 2 June.  They said I had to wait 48 hours and call order management to get the date brought forward.  (And this is bearing in mind that every day without a line is a day my child's life is at risk, and we have priority fault repair for that reason).
I called order management (from the car park in Tesco this time, I like to see the sights) after 24 hours, who of course already had the VOL number they needed to move the order on.  I got passed around a bit and ended up with a team who gave me neither their team name nor the name of the person handling the call - they were incredibly evasive, as it is easy to be when you are on a bad mobile connection from India.  They said they had passed me on to the "offline team" but that there was no way of contacting these people at all or raising priority once they had handed off to them.  The "offline team" have an SLA that says they will call you back within 72 hours, and after that they will schedule a visit.  The visit has been pencilled in for 16th or 17th of April - so 8-9 days after fault reported, on "priority" service where a child's life is in real danger.
My mother is in bits.  Because the bill is in her name she feels somehow horribly responsible for all this.  She is only just coming to terms with living alone and has nothing much to do other than worry about us.  She is phoning me constantly to make sure my daughter is OK and of course as she frequently can't get through to us, each time she is convinced that something awful has happened.  She's 78.  She doesn't need this.  I'm almost as worried about her as I am about my daughter.
My mother is convinced BT's behaviour is illegal.  I don't know about that - BT obviously have a reputation for some of the worst customer service on the planet, and must have huge banks of lawyers who have designed the system to operate just within the law, if not within any normal conventions of fairness or compassion or human decency.  And to be honest legal action is way down my list of priorities.  The question is, can I do anything at all to bring this reconnection forwards?  I'm currently using the wifi at the library of the nearest town, but obviously much of the time I have no phone to call or receive calls on, which is making things much harder.

  • Double-charged, 3 support tickets in and still trying to get refund, please help!

Could someone point me towards an Adobe support manager/supervisor with an email address? I believe the support chat employees may be causing more issues than resolution in my case.
My issue: On 12/26/12, attempting to reactivate an existing subscription, I was double-charged and ended up with two active subscriptions (the re-activated one and a new one). I have spent the last 3 weeks attempting to get this corrected to one active subscription and the second charge refunded, and it appears that on 1/03/12 I received an email saying that I was being refunded, but a couple weeks later I still see no funds in my bank account.
What should I do? I feel like I'm on this wild and crazy goose chase to get my $80.46 back. Every time I open a support ticket (I'm on my third one right now) I end up calmed by statements of 'I truly understand your problem' and then no follow up or resolution, the support technicians don't seem to comprehend me, leaving me very confused and frustrated, it's a mess!
The last person (a couple hours ago) said he couldn't help me and that he would escalate the issue - At this point, would I be best off to ask my bank if they can cancel one of the two charges? I'm digging around for a support email, in an attempt to circumvent the live chat technicians and get to someone who will understand me, but I can't find any way to get support from Adobe outside of that horrible live chat system.
I just sent the following complaint through the BBB:
When I re-activated my Creative Cloud subscription on 12/26 I ended up with two charges on my credit card and two active subscriptions. I needed 1 active Creative Cloud subscription, but ended up with 2. Since then, I have opened 3 support tickets to fix this, and the whole ordeal has turned into a nightmare.
    - The first ticket was opened the very next morning explaining the problem and requesting the the duplicate charge to be cancelled.
    - The second ticket was opened another day later to ask when the refund would come through and to let them know I was concerned that my account showed both subscriptions still active. I was shocked when the agent said that there was no refund pending, and that I had to specifically state to her that 'I would like a refund' in order to receive one. Even after this, I don't believe she ever put in a refund request because that ticket auto-closed itself and I STILL had two active subscriptions showing in my account.
    - The third support ticket was opened today, 3 weeks later. This time the support employee said he cannot help, seemed very confused, said the product had been returned, that a refund CANNOT be issued, and that he would have to escalate the issue. The first and third people I talked to did not seem to comprehend me very well, and I almost wonder if the first or second person made a mistake somewhere that lead to all of this confusion.
I am frustrated, don't know what to do, and have ended up paying for two subscriptions this month, one of which was not used, intended, or needed. I received an email on the third saying that funds had been released, and that it may take 5 days to receive them, but I never received any funds back in my account. The support employees I talk to barely seem to comprehend me and don't have any follow through. I don't know where to go from here. I would like to walk away with one active subscription and one refund for the second one that I was mistakenly charged for, promptly cancelled, and never received a refund for.
I'm not certain why this has become such a complicated matter. Please, help! There is currently one open support ticket regarding this case, but I am sending this email (also sending to the BBB) because I do not feel that support employee understood my issue or what I'm going through.
    Thank you,
Order History: [removed, shows home address] - shows 2 subscriptions for the Creative Cloud ordered on 12/26. This was supposed to be 1 subscription re-activated. I ended up with the existing subscription re-activated and a NEW subscription activated.

  • How to use a back button in action pages?

    Hi all,
I have created a user login page, home page and user profile page.
If the user provide correct username and password in the login page he will be taken to home page.
In the home page he will be having his username and a link to view his profile.
When the user click on the link "My Profile(user profile)" he wil be taken to that page.
In my profile page the user can edit only his firstname, lastname and password .
On the user profile page i have placed a Back Button(using javascript: on onclick event i have used history.back()) to go back to home page after editing his profile.
If the user edit his profile for n-number of times then atlast if he wants to go back to home page-then he wil cilck the back button.
Now the problem occurs like the back button not going to home page and it simply going back with the edited history.
How to use a back button in action pages; without repeating the actions done on the page; how to redirect to the users home page?
I simply used the hyperlink in userprofile page to go to home page but when i click onit it is displaying blank home page.
I'm using hibernate orm mapping; cflogin and cflogout tags.
    Any help appreciated,

I can see your problem. You may use javascript:history.go(-1), javascript:history.go(-2), ..., to go back one page, two pages, and so on. But how does one go back an arbitrary n pages? The link href="home.cfm" isn't a good solution for the browser. It makes a new call to the server which, as you may have discovered, can overwrite all the changes made at the browser.
You should use the Javascript variable history.length. If you open n links in succession, starting from page0.cfm, then the browser holds the value of history.length as n. So, experiment with something like
    <a href="javascript:history.go(-history.length)">Go home</a>
    or
    <a href="javascript:history.go(-history.length+1)">Go home</a>

  • Safari 4.0.3: "un-update" or locate "turn features off" buttons?

Pardon me if I'm a bit confused; this is the first forum I've visited that seems to prefer new threads to posting in related threads. I think.
Short version: I got the "updates available" message a couple weeks ago, and I updated. I now have Safari 4.0.3 and I hate it. I mean I really hate it. This is really disappointing for me, as Safari was the first ever pack-in browser that I really loved.
I have many issues with it, one of which (with the help of a thread here I stumbled across) I have semi-resolved, but am still not completely happy.
So I would like to know if anyone can tell me one of two things:
How to "undo" an update and go from something I loathe as much as Explorer and back to something I adored.
    Or
How to "turn off" the following irritants:
the "Top Sites" feature. This is just irritating. I use my computer at home for research. When I have pulled the information I need, I will only rarely ever need to revisit a paper. Though it's nice to know (for example, when researching STDs, that I always had on tap a large number of pictures of dripping groins, available even when the kids are playing games on Nickelodeon (ask me how I know this). Further, my computer at work is a shared computer, used by myself and four salesmen. This feature has resulted essentially in the salesmen all giving away to each other their "secret sources" for various materials. Since they're all on commission, this has resulted in a great deal of conflict there. Gotta love that.
Yes; I am well aware that I can "clear history" when I'm done with the net. The problem is that I don't want to clear the history from my home computer; it's something the kids can't just stumble across, and it is handy while I'm writing a paper, since it contains every site I've visited since the last clear.
The "page through" view for Bookmarks. Since there are no pictures that go with most of my Bookmarks when I'm writing research papers, I find myself scrolling through an endless procession of little black record albums, all with the Safari compass logo. Boy Howdy, now that's way better than a screen-filling list I could take in at a glance, yeah, Man....
I don't know what it's called, but that irritating "second layer" that spends sixty seconds or so generating a preview of something every time I mouse over an attachment thumbnail. 1: I don't always want to look at it. 2: it's faster to simply click it and open it in a new window or tab than it is to wait on this feature 3: opening it in a new tab doesn't completely stop me from browsing the rest of the page.
Actually, at this very moment, the "updates available" icon is bouncing on my dock, and I'm not going to click it until I see some reports of what the update is and what it does and how adversely it has affected folks.

Thanks for the reply, Golden Shoes.
I can't say that 4 is faster than what I had. I had a major speed issue with it, but I found advice about changing the numbers in the DNS servers blanks, etc, and did that. Sort of. I've only got room to enter one number; no way to enter both. But it did help, and the loading speed is almost up to what it was pre-update. While it's still a bit slower, I can live with it where it is now.
As for the Cover Flow advice:
Will that remove cover flow as an option completely? It's not that I don't like Cover Flow; I love it for perusing graphic files, etc. However, for running through my Bookmarks, it's horribly inappropriate.
I really don't want to use the Top Sites feature, however. I strongly dislike it, and am surprised to see that there is no option short of recoding to turn it off. I don't wish to sound like someone trying to make a sarcastic point with this next question, because I am being very serious:
Have a made a big mistake buying a Mac? I do not know how to read, write, or edit code, nor do I feel particularly comfortable that I could learn to do such a thing. Is there commonly a need to work directly with the code when "tuning" a Mac?
Just so you will have some background:
At work, we went to aluminum iMacs because the entire company was so disgusted with Vista that even the Board agreed we'd come out with less expense and lost hours swapping systems entirely as opposed to coping with Vista. I liked the iMac I was using at work so much that I bought one to replace my XP box.
But I am not by any stretch of the imagination more than just a "user." If changing code is the norm (as opposed to Preference or Finder toggles), I may have made a very expensive mistake.
Sorry for the digression; frustration coming out, I suppose. Ha!
If it's not too much trouble, can you clarify the results of pasting in the command you suggested? Will it completely disable the Cover Flow feature, or will it simply turn it off in relation to Bookmarks?
Will it completely disable the Top Sites feature?
And-- embarrassingly enough-- what is Terminal? Where do I find it?
Looking at the updates doesn't help. I "looked" at the last one. It said "Safari 4.0.3." There was nothing there to indicate "makes this and this mandatory and slows browser to a crawl."
This update similarly gives a name and series number, but nothing that would indicate if it's something I do or don't want (like Safari 4.0.3: it seemed like something good, but it's a long list of non-undoable "do not want" 'features.' ).
Is there anything that can be done about the mousing over a thumbnail automatically knocks you out of browsing to open up a representation of the file contents?
Thanks for the time and the advice. I apologize for knowing ... well, absolutely nothing.

  • Where can I find the "help links" on the default Firefox homepage?

There are usually links below the search bar on the default Firefox homepage. For example, currently mine says:
"Our thoughts are with those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Please join Mozillians around the world in making a donation to the Red Cross. Our thoughts are with those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Please join Mozillians around the world in making a donation to the Red Cross."
I was wondering if it was possible to find a list of past links displayed on the homepage. There was one a few weeks about "my internet identity" (or something of the sort), and I wanted to see it... but it's obviously not there now.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know whether anyone is keeping a history of these home page "snippets". I mean, someone, somewhere probably has an archive, but I didn't find one in a web search.

  • Safari 4 crashes on startup...help please

I have just performed the usual software update, and now i am unable to launch Safari. It just goes straight to the crash report.
I have read the discussions and tried trashing the history from the Home>Library>Safari folder, in fact removed the folder to desktop, tried restarting holding shift key, and trashed the com.apple.safari plist..
will post log if anyone can help...
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I had exactly the same thing, but it was due to having installed a search "thing" in the google search bar in the safari browser that enabled me to search not just google.com but google.co.uk and wikipedia etc ...
I trashed folders / files in Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Glims, i think, and one other - thing is i've trashed them now and can't remember the exact name of them!!
Anyway, see if you've added anything to Safari, find them, and trash them so you've just got the bare Safari, and i think it will work out for you like me, as mine was doing the exact same thing. I then trashed Safari the application and downloaded the installer (as software update said i was up to date) and it all works perfectly now.
    HTH,
    Slater

  • Automator or Applescript help...

Can a script be written in any of these to clear Safari history or favicons? I'd like to write one so that I can just click it instead of doing this every week.

    Try this:
    tell application "Finder"
    delete file "Library:Safari:History.plist" of home
    delete folder "Library:Safari:Icons" of home
    empty trash
    end tell
The script will need to be saved as as application.

  • Keeping your iPhone Running Smooth?

    Cycle your battery?
    Leave memory space?
Clear your Cache, cookies, and history?
    Reset (home + Sleep buttons)?
Do these practices work to help keeping your iPhone running smooth?
What are your experiences and what do you do to help keep it healthy?

Yes, it means to let the battery discharge all the way until the phone shuts itself off, then charge the battery completely. Apple recommends doing this once a month.
    From http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html :
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month.

  • Control char with cli_exec

    Hi,
I'm trying to put together an EEM based TCL script for a "call home" like feature (if a client's VPN router behind NAT is not reachable via VPN tunnel, the router would get the backdoor open from inside to netcat), all works except passing control chars (ctrl-C, ctrl-Z, up arrow, etc), I see the commands arrive at TCL via a socket properly encoded (regexe properly identified utf-8 or octet coding), however when passed to CLI using cli_exec or cli_write, not treated as controls.
The TCL opens a TCP socket to xinetd with NCAT without any TELNET negotiations
The absence of the controls is not a huge issue, more like "nice to have"
    appreciate any feedback

    update:
the ctrl-Z (\001a) seem to work (even without ctrl-V prepended), although with a bit of decoded garbage: it goes to cli_write as C?C8^Z, the cli_read_drain returns:
    call    call-history-mib  call-home  cdp
    cef     chat-script       class-map  clock
    cns     config-register   connect    control-plane
    crypto  cwmp
    testrtr01(config)#                   ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
    testrtr01#
    testrtr01#
    Nov 13 10:53:28.449: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by  on vty0 (EEM:eemcat.tcl)
so, CLI takes the first C as the beginning of the command then evaluates ^Z and gets out of config mode
The ctrl-V (\u0016) is not working,
The ctrl-P (\u0010) or up arrow (\u001b[A) no working with ctrl-V (\u0016) pre pended or without:
    with ctrl-V in front getting
% Bad IP address or host name
% Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address
    without, no output
    giving up on this
On the other note, is there a way to make cli_read* async, so it could read debug messages as they show up. If I put it in while loop, it will block the socket's fileevent (or is it even possible to have more than one vwait forever in tcl)?
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to sync to/from two computers but only sync from a third (no upload to third/work computer, but download from it)?

    Is this possible:
Two directional sync (to/from) of history, bookmarks, etc on two computers and only unidirectional sync (from only, not to) on a third? I have sync set up on my work computer and I like knowing my work history when at home or on my laptop, but I don't want all of my home history being sent to the work computer. Is there a way to have a two directional sync between 2 computers but only send history from, but not to, a third computer?
As it stands now, if someone at work would get on my history it would look like I have been looking up flights and buying things on the internet at work, but I only do that at home.
    Thanks.

As far as I know, you can only access the iTunes store of the country you are currently in.

  • Is it possible to check if anyone has applied to monitor my web browsing history/cache/bookmarks as an employer on my home pc without my knowledge or consent?

I am using private windows to browse since someone seems to know what sites I've visited. I've done my best wrt blocking cookies and deleting history on exit, but some data in the "Library" exists.
Apparently my isp provider and employer can see my browsing history of a private browsing window.
I am currently self-employed but I volunteered for an organisation until October 2013. One of their members I worked closely with was stalking my email and browsing history without my knowledge.
Is it possible for this slimy bleep to have weasled their way into monitoring my web activity by claiming to be an employer?
Can I use a private browsing window safely?
I have a business to run, so I need my information, email, web activity to be kept confidential.
Any helpful advice will be gratefully received.

Your question is a bit confusing, and it seems that you don't quite understand who and what can view your internet activity:
    * Private browsing mode simply leaves no record of the sites you visit in your browser. There are so many other parts of the chain that can keep records. Example: Your computer could have tracking software (installed intentionally or maliciously), many routers have web logging, your Internet Service Provider can view the sites you visit, your employer if you are at work, the government has extensive tracking programs as well. Private browsing won't defeat these tracking techniques. It basically only prevents people who have physical access to your computer from looking in your history and seeing the sites you visited in PB mode.
    * Your employer can't just request to see the sites you visit when you are at home. The only reason your employer could see the sites you visit is it you take your computer to work and use your work network to access the internet (and the employer has enabled logging on their network hardware) or you have a work laptop and take it home and it has logging software installed on it. Many employers have policies against using work equipment for personal. But there is no way that your employer can call your home ISP and ask to view your internet history.
    * Your ISP keeps a record of the sites you access, but won't release that without a court order (or to the NSA....) so unless you have a court order or a snoopy ISP employee who has an axe to grind and is viewing your internet logs illegally you don't really have to worry about that.
    * It's possible you have malware on your computer that is tracking your internet history. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]

I am using Firefox 3.6.8. Oddly, my problem appeared a few hours PRIOR to Firefox automatically installing the latest updates (the week ending 7/23), not afterwards. The problem is this: the browser continues to display tabs, the reload/home/history/favorites icons, URL field and Google search field while in full-screen mode, so it's not really full-screen anymore. How can I correct this?
