History of websites on a tab is lost when my DSL drops

My DSL connection drops several times a day (Century Link can't figure out why). If I'm refreshing a page on one of my tabs when this happens, I get redirected to this web page -- http://192.168.2.1/zCfgTestFail.html -- and the list of web pages formerly associated with this tab is wiped out. Is there a way to recover the deleted URLs?

That is a private URL on a router or modem, so it looks that your modem gives an error page if the connection drops. If that causes the complete history of a tab to disappear then there is probably not much that you can do other then opening each link in a new tab with a middle click instead of opening links in the same tab.
Your posted system details show that you have a lot of old Java Console extensions installed.

My iTunes download on my iPhone got interrupted - i lost wifi connection and the download was over 20MB - and when it restarted, it started from scratch, so I lost 25MB worth of data somehow?? I pay per MB I download, so I'm pretty peeved and want to prevent this happening again.  Help!!??

As un update, any time a download gets paused or interrupted, when you "tap to resume" it actually restarts instead of resuming.  Any advice??

  • Many Tabs & Windows Lost during Freeze & Force Power Down

Sorry for the long post, you can stop reading at whatever point my question seems clear
Where is the data located of previous tabs and windows from a previous Safari session - during a New Safari session  - but PRIOR to slecting "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" ?
This question may be a bit confusing so I will provide the scenario that prompted this question, a few additional details, and lastly an illustration showing what I'm talking about that you can duplicate if you so choose.  :-)
I do a lot of research and use many windows and tabs on a regular basis - approximately 80.
I realize now that I should use bookmarks, but starting Safari and just clicking one click -"Reopen All Windows from Last Session"- has been faster for me than daily organizing and updating bookmarks - (lesson learned).
Yesterday in Safari I had these 80 tabs opened in several windows.  Later I quit Safari.
Today I started Safari, opened a couple new tabs, then a few minutes later my 2011 MacBook Pro froze and became unresponsive.  I had to force power down.
Note: Safari was not "quit" in the traditional sense.
Note: I did not select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" before my computer froze.
The LastSession.plist file will contain the links for the previous session After you select "quit" in Safari.  When you start a new Safari session, then open a few new tabs, but do not select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" the LastSession.plist will only have the newly opened tabs.  Then when you "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" the old previous tabs are opened - so where does the computer get this data from?
It's not possible for me to realistically find the tabs in my history as this work has been done over months and they would be buried in many thousand other links in my history file.
I have not rebooted my computer since the force power down and have it currently in target disk mode connected to my iMac.
If you can help with this you really will be a Master - because both the genius bar person and the engineer on the phone at apple didn't know.
Just in case my description hasn't been clear, I'll now provide an illustration you can do yourself to see what I'm talking about:
Open Safari - Go to apple.com and open about 10 tabs all from apple.com domain.... Then Quit.
Open the ~/library/safari/LastSession.plist file in TextEdit and you will see those links.
Now open Safari.  Go to any website - like tvguide.com ... open about 10 tabs all from that domain.  Do NOT quit Safari.
Open the ~/library/safari/LastSession.plist file in TextEdit and you will see those links from tvguide.com and NONE of the tabs from apple.com.
Now select "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" in the History menu of Safari and all your tabs from apple.com will show up.
Only now, After having clicked "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" will the  LastSession.plist file show the apple.com/...  tabs.
So the question is - where is that data saved (all those apple.com/... tabs) which Safari gets it from, before selecting "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" ??
By determining this hopefully I will save the months of research work I had in those tabs.
    Thank you.
Safari Version 5.1.1  OS Version 10.6.8

    Hi Linc,
I use Time Machine on my desktop Macs, both at home and the office but unfortunately Time Machine was not active on this laptop.  Yes, If I had it I would simply revert to the old LastSession.plist file created in the last quit of Safari prior to the crash.  But I don't have TM on this laptop, the LastSession.plist has thus been overwritten with the couple new tabs in the active session of Safari before it crashed, and thus the reason for my original post and question.
My hope is that someone will know where the data is grabed from (descriped in my original post) so I can save the months of research work done.
    Thank you.

    Question
How do I find my tab history? I had hard drive issues and when I launched my browser after getting it back their was no "restore session" option. I know a tab history is kept, just don't remember where or how to exercise it. Thanks

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • How can I stop Private Browsing from retaining history of websites visited?

Whenever I go into "Private Browsing" and start to type in - www, a history of websites visited comes up. I thought that in Private Browsing, history was not retained!

<u>New</u> history is not kept, but existing history from normal mode is still there and can be accessed if you are in [[Private Browsing]] mode.<br />
If you want to prevent that then you need to clear the history after you enter ''Private Browsing'' mode.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

Firefox is adding advertising links to certain words on my website cornish-surfing.co.uk, and when I open a new tab an additional window opens with unwanted sites.
    1. How can I stop these things from happening?
    2. Why is it happening?
These things only happen when I’m using the Firefox browser. I use Sophos antivirus and firewall and the scans indicate my system is clean. So I’m assuming that it’s built into Firefox or there’s a security flaw with Firefox.
Can you let me know which and how I can stop it from happening?
    Graham Jappé

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc (certainly nothing that is shipping with a plain official firefox build).
please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • New session started with an advertizing page and all my tabs are lost

New session started with an advertizing page and all my tabs are lost. Restore the previous session is not active. How can I restore my tabs?

This advice might come too late, but, don't exit Firefox! Or if you already did, don't start it back up again!
''If Firefox is running:'' Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listed various files and folders. For best results, change the view to "Details".
(''If Firefox not running, get to this folder by pasting the following in the Run box on the start menu and pressing Enter: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and then double-click into the most recently updated semi-randomly-named folder you find there.'')
In the window that launches, scroll down and double-click into the '''sessionstore-backups''' folder. Save all files here to a safe location, such as your Documents folder, so Firefox doesn't overwrite them. We may be able to use them to recover your lost tabs.
Also, if you return to the main level of the profile folder, you may find some sessionstore files. Copy those to the safe location as well.
Could you report back on what you found?
Note: If Windows hides the .js file extension from you, you can change a setting so that you can see all file extensions (this helps when renaming files). This support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219 or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore-backup files are:
    * recovery.js: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox is closed, your last session)
    * recovery.bak: a backup copy of recovery.js
    * previous.js: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
    * upgrade.js-''build_id'': the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update

  • Often with 2 or 3 tabs/websites open, the tab does not have the X on the right side to close it. I have to right clock and hit Close Tab. Seems random. How can I assure all tabs have the X?

Sometimes when I have 2 or more websites open, the tabs for them do not have the"X" on the right end that I can click to close them. Others right next to it may have the X or not - it seems random. The only way to close the x-less tabs is to right click and select Close tab. How do I tweak it so there are always X's? The only relevant add-on I can think of is Colorful Tabs, and I have the latest version of it.

If you are not new to browsers, you would probably prefer the single "X" at the far right of the tabs bar to close the active tab, but in any case your choices are described for the configuration option of '''browser.tabs.closeButtons''', see

Hi feijoada (and hi Yang ,
The 'Form Values' file stores various autofill details - you didn't mention that file earier - did you also try moving that to the Desktop and retrying Safari to see if that was the problem? It can be found in the /Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari folder as well.
