History Pallette opposite way to Photoshop!?

Any particular reason why the History Pallette works the opposite way to Photoshop? i.e. most recent on top as opposed to PS's adding to bottom. If LR was made by another company, fair enough but why do things differently for no good reason, when there is a simple and very long established implementation, in an application quite likely to be used alongside LR. When dealing with sedimentary rocks I expect the oldest to be on the bottom, but as PS has long had newest added to bottom of history pallette, that way is clear and simple and would be nicely consistent for LR to do the same. I have no problem with LR doing things differently as it is a different beast to PS, but when some aspects are common to several apps, then they should be done consistently, not arbitrarily.
LR seems full of silly little annoyances like that, having the scroll bar on the left of left panel instead of on the right, like in every other programme I've ever used. Again different from say Bridge which has panel placed similarly in other respects and again there's no real benefit to the change, it is simply confusing.
Using Cntrl+' on Windows version instead of the normal Cntrl+k for preferences! Why use a long used preferences shortcut for keywords in LR? What not use Cntrl+W for keyWords? It's not as if it appears to be used for anything else. I have no problem using different shortcuts in different apps or if using a Mac instead of a PC, but when Adobe programmes have different shortcuts for exactly the same action and are not platform consistent it is maddening. Not to mention it makes a mockery of using a single companies products for workflow productivity. Now I feel with recent Adobe software I have to remember, this app does this like a Mac, this one like a PC and this one is just different for no reason whatsoever.
Another infuriating anoyance is how LR behaves differently to any other programme when you alt/tab in final full screen mode, as LR then always jumps to the back of the list. It doesn't even behave consistently within its own framework. I often Alt/tab back and fore between two programmes when working and LR's stupid behaviour in full screen mode is remarkably annoying and frustrating as I now end up with the wrong programme when I switch back and fore between programmes. The workaround is to not use full screen mode, which makes its existence a bit pointless.
Workarounds is a word almost synonymous with LR in my thesauraus! A lot less workarounds than there used to be admittedly, I never dared use LR for work until 1.3 arrived as it was so unusable/slow with regard to clunky workarounds [and performance issues]. Now it finally seems like a real programme and not a flaky beta. But still in need of serious polish.
Using LR + other Adobe Apps feels a bit like driving around the US, when every State decides arbitrarily as to which side of the road they drive, has completely different signages some in Km, some in miles, but with no indication as to whether imperial or metric is being used.

Instead of pathetic, patronising and ignorant smart arse comments, which is sadly what one now expects here, Please explain what the benefit there is of doing history the opposite way to PS. I can think of one weak reason, but it's not good enough to warrant being any different to PS.
I don't mind things being different if there is a good reason for it and can learn new paradigms no problem. Heck I even swapped to a left handed mouse, as it makes more ergonomic sense, if you have a graphics tablet on the right of keyboard. Plus you can use both together with practice, best of both worlds. But if I had several mice that I used and some had right clicks and some had left clicks. Even though they were all made by say Logitech, then that would be really dumb/confusing. LR, with regard to system wide and other Adobe programme's behaviour, is like using a left handed mouse with a right click button. Being different just for the sake of it and also lacking coherence with other Adobe apps is a counter productive move for productivity and a barrier to the learning process. It's also a bit daft, esp. as Adobe like to market their products as being worth buying en masse, due to the fact they supposedly work well together. Though it's interesting that LR was conspicuously absent from CS3.
Besides, if LR's way of doing History is indeed so much better, not that anyone even bothered to explain why that may be the case [too busy trying and failing to be clever], why not change PS's to match LR? There were other more radical changes to the interface in CS3, so altering History order wouldn't be a big deal, or would it?
As for Jeff's comments. I've only been using LR forums since it was on Adobe Labs, so only a couple of years now. So no less time than anyone else I'd say. Not that that is of that much relevance really as this is not the only source of LR info and this is a user to user forum, where Adobe give very little away about what/how/why they do things here.
And being free of the shackles of how things work also seems to mean making brand new mistakes. LR has had major design screw ups as it evolved, not recognising differing file extensions and ignoring existing folder structures were two particularly dumb 'innovations' that spring to mind, both now thankfully remedied. LR still ignoring media other than still images and even then, not even all the files that PS produces, is a major workflow impediment to a working photographer's workflow. I still cannot use LR a a proper DAM App for that reason, as it simply ignores lots of my images.
As for programmes copying LR. LR's look + feel reminded me of editing packages that predated LR by quite a few years. A dark interface is hardly that innovative and non destructive editing of RAW files is not unique either. This is not to say the LR team hasn't built on other prior ideas very well and then added some of their own to the mix.
I am aware LR is a version 1, And only with 1.3 did I consider it finally out of beta, too many bugs + performance issues up too 1.2, so plenty of room for improvement yet. And behaving consistently with Adobe programmes [where they do not differ functionwise]+ more importantly behaving consistently with systemwide standards, would be a major productivity boost.

  • Auto-dim feature works in the opposite way

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion 17" laptop and I have two major remarks on the HP implementation of the display.
    1. The auto-dim feature works in the opposite way: it should be that when dark images appear the display produces more light and lesser light when whiter/brighter images are displayed. Now the display dimms its lights when dark images are displayed which makes that they are wayyyy bad to see!
    2. The auto-dim feature can be turned of, but is back turned on when the computer was turned off in standby mode allthough it says that it is turned off.... weird!
At work I have a Dell and there it all wors as it should !
So HP, please correct these flaws asap, thanks :-)

  • Last added playlist sync opposite way to iPhone

    Dear Apple Community!
Actually I have an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0.1) and a correct created intelligent "Last Added Playlist". Unfortunately iTunes (10.5.3) is syncing this playlist the opposite way to the iPhone. To my iPod (3rd Generation) it's syncing correctly. Is this a bug of iOS 5.0.1 or do I have made a wrong set up? If I set it up in a wrong way, how could it be that it is synced correctly to the iPod?
In advance I thank you for your help.

No one can help me or report the same bug? :/

  • Is there a way for photoshop to AUTO UPDATE all linked files after modified?

Using the new Photoshop 2014 (version).
This is a very frustrating task for anyone using a lot of linked files.
As a web developer, I may have 50 files that contain one linked element.  If I go edit that element, I then have to find the layer on each and every file it's contained in and click "Update Modified Content".  There HAS to be an easier way.  I really hope I'm missing something here.
Thanks to everyone looking to help.

OK. Now I see what you meant.
And you correctly understand workaround instruction. The problem is it does not work and I don't know why.
I'm not so familiar with Automator and indeed seldom use it except for a simple services wrapper under 10.6. So I don't know of any workflows off the shelf which use "Ask for Confirmation" action. But it is easy to create a workflow that, for instance, consists of "Ask for Confirmation" action only and is set to receive no input or input from Finder or input from other application and test to see if it gets keyboard focus. As far as I can tell, this action obtains keyboard focus automatically.
Here's another workaround you may try. Replace the "Ask for Confirmation" action with a "Run AppleScript" action with the following contents. This will show similar dialogue to let you choose two options.
    on run {input, parameters}
        tell application "Finder"
            activate
display dialog "Are you sure?" with title "Permanently delete"
        end tell
        return input
    end run
The workflow will look like this.

  • Color Profiles visible in a pallete/panel, like in Photoshop?

Is it possible to view your InDesign document's current color profile? I can see the profile in Photoshop (Info Panel) and in Illustrator (Document Info Panel) but not in InDesign. Is there an easy way to view the profiles of a placed document in any of the panels?
    Thanks a lot!

To view a placed file's profile in ID's info palette you have to select the placed file with the direct selection tool (don't select the frame holding the file). If the placed art has no profile you will see the ID doc's profile (which is assigned to untagged placed files).
To view the ID doc's profiles you have to choose Edit>Assign Profiles...
You could also view the InDesign document's profiles via scripting. Save this AppleScript in your scripts folder and assign a key command to it:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
    set myDocument to active document
set rgbprof to RGB profile of myDocument
set cmykprof to CMYK profile of myDocument
    if rgbprof is "" then
set rgbprof to "None (Color Settings Working RGB Space)"
    end if
    if cmykprof is "" then
set cmykprof to "None (Color Settings Working CMYK Space)"
    end if
display dialog "Documents CMYK profile is: " & return & cmykprof & return & return & "Documents RGB profile is: " & return & rgbprof
    end tell

  • Why does the Illustrator "trap" command trap the same spot colors in opposite ways?

I can not understand how Illustrator decides which way to expand something when using the "trap" command. According to their tutorial it expands the lighter-colored artwork over the darker artwork, unless you choose to reverse traps. But in practise, where two objects of the same color meet, it will frequenrly trap them in one direction in one place and the opposite direction in the other.
Here's an example with especially large traps:
The two yellow items are defined as the same spot color and are a single compound path. There is just the one simple shape of spot red and one simple shape of spot pink.
On the left yellow object, it expands yellow over pink. On the right, it expands pink over yellow. On the left yellow object, it expands red over yellow. On the right, it expands yellow over red.
There is no possible print order of these three spot colors that would result in the correct object shapes being printed the way this is trapped. Is this just a bug? Can anyone explain this result, or especially how to make it work in a useable way?
All objects are spot colors that are cut out from each other so there were no overlaps.

Here's what it looks like with overprint preview:
    It still looks wrong.
This view is glossing over how bad it would really look with screen printing, because the inks are much higher opacity than they're previewing here. I suppose that's what you're getting at, that the trapping may be bad for screen printing, but if you're assuming offset press inks that have next to no opacity and will mix together on press, that it doesn't matter which way you trap. Overprint preview makes yellow overprinting pink look the same as pink overprinting yellow. With spot colors in screen printing, that is no where near the case.
But even consdiering that, this trapping is wrong, the final shapes of the objects are changed by the trapping. And the trapping does not appear to follow Adobe's own description of the logic used, or any kind of consistency. Why would it expand yellow into pink in some places and pink into yellow in others?
I've heard the trapping in Indesign is much better, some screen printers open in Indesign to add trapping... maybe I'll look at that.

  • How to see filter history in an old file (photoshop)

    Hi!
3 years ago I made a poster, now I would like to use the same filter on a new poster I wanna do, then the big question arose, which filter did I use, and with what settings ?
Tried to google it (and look in these forums), but couldn't find anyone who had ended up in the same situation as I have.
I have the .psd -file, but have no idea where to find the information, maybe it's not even possible ? :/
    Best Regards, Anders

This is the photoshopped version, and it is the background I'm trying to imitate, I got quite far with these settings on poster edges:
    edge thickness 10
    edge intensity 6
    poserization 1
I've played around some with angled strokes and colored pencil but can not quite get it right.
    Any suggestions ?
(I've added the Photoshop-file as well from my gdrive, hope it works, if someone wanna play around with that one as well)
Hope there are some good filter-people out here =)

  • Drop Down Menu Over Text The Opposite Way

I’ve just read the Drop Down Menu Over Text: How? Topic

drop down menu in Flash which I have imported into Dreamweaver. I
now want to be able to write HTML code below the menu and have the
sub menus drop down over the top of the HTML. Currently the menu
sits above the text leaving a large white space where the sub menus
drop down. I have tried using the wmode parameters transparent and
opaque but neither has worked. Is there anyway to fix this?

I have the same problem and dont know the solution. I would
appreciate if you or anyone else would share it with me.
    Thanx.

  • Is there any way to set Firefox to remember history for a certain amount of time rather than all or nothing?

In previous versions, there was a choice to remember browsing history for a certain number of days, but in the current version the only choices seem to be to remember history or not remember history, with no way to customize in between. I don't want to have to clear my history and cache manually all the time, but I don't want it cleared every time I close my browser, either. Has the customization feature been removed entirely or am I missing something? And if it's been removed entirely, could it please be brought back? It's helpful for people who want their older browsing history to be deleted without deleting the entire history.

  • Photoshop layer move and layer duplicate event ids

I am running PSCC 2014 on a mac. I work with a wacom table and keyboard shortcuts. I work fast without looking look at the keyboard. Often end up moving layers, duplicating layers inadvertently by pressing the wrong keys.
I have identified the keyboard shortcuts responsible for the layer shift/duplication and was able to record an action.
The idea is to setup a Javascript alert when the layer moves or duplicates using the Scripts Events Manager Photoshop Event dialog.
I have not been able to successfully add the Photoshop Event using the Event ID code 'copy' and ‘move’ listed in the Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Javascript Scripting Reference guide.
The Adobe scripting listener plugin does not record the layer movement and layer duplication events.
When I replicate the problem the History pallet registers both, the layer copy and layer move events as a ‘move’ history state.
Other than Javascript Scripting Reference guide Is there a way to find out the exact event Id for a layer move and layer duplicate events?

sorry, I wasn't aware you're using a mac. I know that in Windows, you can run additional software that will send you an alert every time you accidentally press those keys. It can even block the layer shift/duplication if you choose. I've just tried a sample here on my system and it works perfectly - every time cmd (in my case ctrl) is pressed, a tooltip at the mouse cursor will pop up, saying "CTRL is pressed". Additionally, whenever I press ctrl+option+drag, the tooltip instead says "Layer has been moved". I'm positive this can also be done on the mac.
you should look into a key remapping program for the mac that resembles AutoHotKey for Windows (which is what I'm using). It will allow you to send alerts every time you press those key/mousebutton combinations by accident. This is a solution I bet you can take care of outside of Photoshop, meaning that you won't need to rely on javascripting or anything.
Here's a webpage that gives a full list of mac software which are similar to AutoHotKey:
AutoHotkey Alternatives for Mac OS X - AlternativeTo.net
Keyboard Maestro seems to be the best bet but I wouldn't know for sure. Your solution will be in one of those programs for sure.
By the way - I tried BCM's panel and it works perfectly!

  • Swatches Pallette that behaves more like Illustrator or InDesign

Please implement a swatches pallette that behaves more like the one in Illustrator or InDesign - with the ability to group swatches, easily import groups of swatches from another file or .ase, and overall just be more friendly for editing and creating swatches for specific project use or client use. (also make it easier to delete groups of swatches)
    Thanks!

There won't be complete consistency, becuase the applications work in very different ways.    Photoshop's swatches are just a way to pick colors, not live objects connected to the artwork as in Illustrator and InDesign.
Also, each app has considerable history, and major changes to functionality aren't undertaken lightly.
And remember that each app addresses many different kinds of user: what may be appropriate to your workflow may hinder someone else's.  (and we can't offer an infinite number of UI variants)
But that said, we have several requests to make Photoshop's swatches (and other presets) easier to manage.  We have some ideas, but haven't had time to work on them yet.

  • Moving Photoshop Cache Folder

My Photoshop CS6 Perpetual Cache is on a drive that undergoes backup - I don't want Cache backed up.  I'm using Win 7 Pro 64 bit
Please, how can I move it to another drive, can't find a way in Photoshop - Edit --- Preferences. I would also like to limit the life of the cache folder to the period of use of Photoshop and Bridge.
Further, on being invited to upgrade my Applications Manager, Photoshop CS6, Bridge and Camera Raw today, the Applications Manager update failed - I waited 2 hours before stopping with task manager, I know, stupid, but would you risk it? It seems I didn't have Applications Manager aboard and trying to later download and install it, failed. Any thoughts please - I gues it's because I don't subscribe to the new Cloud. Surely the upgrade window should have said something like - "Sorry update has failed"!
Thanks for all the help in the past and thanks in anticipation for help with these new questions.

    Thanks Chris
    I decided on an experiment:
Firstly, I opened Photoshop CS6 Perpetual and then went to my 3T Drive
J: and there it was, Photoshop Tmp .....   which I think is the  scratch
    file.
In Edit - Preferences - Performance;  there is a dialogue box for
History, Cache and Scratch with Scratch  having a choice of drives - I
(me) chose J:. On closing Photoshop ...Tmp disappeared from J:.
Secondly,  Bridge CS6 opened to a folder "Churches All" which has three
    files not in sub-folders - I found  two folders on J:; "256" and "1024",
each containing the same three files as  in "Churches All". I closed
Bridge but those two folders plus two more; "data" and "full" remained.
"data" contains a file(?) called "store",  but "full", paradoxically,
    was empty.
Not sure what the above explains but Bridge does leave a trail of
folders/files, as shown on my I: drive back to 2012.  Deleting those
folders/files manually does not seem to upset Photoshop, and now, having
a huge second drive, I suppose they are bearable but then I'm only a bit
more than a casual user. But once I start backing up to that drive the
story may be different. It would be nice if the system automatically
removed the cache after closing down photoshop/bridge.
    warmest regards
    graham davies
