Hit Counter not appearing.

OK I'm using iWeb, the URL is at Godaddy, but the hosting is at my /mac account. I have the family pac. Two web sites the hit counter works just fine. A third one I got it to work on a page where I don't need it, but can't get it to SHOW on the page where I want it. I've tried to put it anywhere on the page, and have restarted etc etc. Suggestions?

what is the purpose of your link? hit counter? or pushing wares?
there are only links on your page, people can google 'hit counter'...
... at least, you should show an example of what looks like iweb hit counter.
here is bling: http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/Cyclosaurus.html
(to the left) it looks like iweb hit counter, but it is a StatCounter.

  • Hit Counter Not Working :(

I want to add the "hit counter" on my welcome page, but when I go to publish it...it does not appear. It doesn't even appear on iWeb. What am I doing wrong??

    SPV:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Is it still linked to the old site?
If you published you site to your second .Mac account then you'll have tow versions of it out there. One on the first account and the one on the new account. They will have different URLs as the default URL will be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/.Mac account name/
So unless you deleted it from the first account each account will have that site. If you don't want the site on the first account go to the iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb folder for that account and look for the folder with the sites name and delete it. There will be an index.html file there also you can delete.

  • Hit counter, hyperlink appearance, fetch questions

Hi. New to Mac/Iweb. Hope you don't mind a compound question -
I rebuilt my site recently using Iweb (www.joshbass.com), and for the most part, like it very much. However, there are a couple things I'm lost on. My settings tell me that on my hyperlinks, they're supposed to be white when "normal", and turn red on rollover. However, I have three browsers right now, IE, Firefox, and Safari, and only in Firefox do they behave correctly. In the other two browsers they simply stay white when rolled over.
Secondly, I wanted to put a hit counter in (I believe there's no other way to measure traffic with this program, right?), but I'm NOT using .mac. So I found a random free counter, pasted the code into a web widget, and in Iweb it looked fine. Once published, not so much. Doesn't show up at all. Tried all the browsers, no difference.
Third, I was wondering if there's a simple way to tie Fetch (for FTP) to Iweb, so that as I update the site in Iweb, I can publish only the changes, instead of FTPing the entire site's contents. There are indeed directions in the Iweb help files, but I'm afraid of doing something dumb and publishing garbage.
    Thanks.

    hi derek,
    1) the hit counter is a .mac only feature! you need to get an alternative counter such as statcounter:
    http://karreth.com/iweb/How%20To%20Add%20A%20StatCounter.html
    2)yes - check these instructions
    http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk/Site/Autoplay_Music.html
3)no sure what you mean with "automatically"
4)my favorite is cyberduck. i also ahve some instructions for it:

  • Hit counts not accurate

The hit count given by OSES seems to be inconsistant. For example, when doing a basic search on my data for a given query, the initial hit count is 110. As I flip through the pages and reach page three(should be showing results 20-30 out of 110) the hit count suddenly changes to 27(now showing results 20-27 of 27). I have built a custom search page using the Web Services API and this behavior is repeated there.
This is done in my custom page by incrementing the variable "startNumber" by 20 each time the user goes to the next page. EG:
    OracleSearchResult result = stub.doOracleSearch(searchTerm,
    new Integer(startNumber),
    new Integer(20),
    Boolean.FALSE,
    Boolean.FALSE,
    null,
    "en",
    "en",
    Boolean.TRUE,
    null,
    null,
    null);
    Any ideas?

It's more efficient to approx row counts, and by default this is the behaviour that you'll get. You can change it by visiting the admin tool and changing the hit count method in the query configuration screen.
If you have a large dataset then performance will degrade if you have exact counts. I can't get to a SES instance now, but I think you have the option to estimate if the result set is over a certain size.
Interestingly though, that estimate is way out in your particular case. Is your default set really dynamic? If so, one possibility is that your indexes are becoming fragmented and need more frequent optimisation. I'm not 100% sure on this but worth a try.
(Note that the Google search engine behaves in the same way re estimates etc.)
Let me know how you get on!

  • Hit counter not showing in .mac

I have finally republished my web site in iWeb 08. I have si opages in total, and five of them helpfully show up in summary in my .mac homepage, together with a hit counter. However, the sith page is my home page, the one I mostly care about, and this isn't in the list. Is the .mac list limited to five pages? And if so, can I select which five pages it lists?

Take a look at TextEdit available in your Applications folder. Open it up and then look at the Preferences window. Click on the "Open and Save" tab and then check off the box to "ignore rich text commands".
Now you'll want to find your HTML file. If you are NOT publishing to .Mac, then you are using the "Publish to Folder" command in iWeb. You'll then be left with a folder full of files that make up your website. Look inside that folder and you should see a bunch of files that have the .html extension. These are the HTML files that you will want to edit. Find the .html file that is associated with your page. For example, if you page is named "welcome" then there should be a file called "welcome.html".
Control-click on the appropriate .html file and then select "Open with...". Choose TextEdit from the window and then you should see the HTML code for your page! Edit away and then when you are finished just type Apple-S to save your changes. Don't use "Save As..."...just Save.

  • Counter not appearing

I am building a site, and have placed a hit counter button at the bottom of my page. The hit counter is not showing up for some reason. I've read the other posts, and none of the answers explain why it isn't showing up. I am hosting the site with MobileMe. Anything else I need to look into?
    Thank you,
    Michael

What's the height of your footer? iWeb puts the counter in there by default. Try increasing the height of the footer via the Inspector/Page/Layout pane and move the counter to a different location and try again.
If you want to have more information with your counter and not have your visits counted when you visit during troubleshooting or checking try using a 3rd party counter like StatCounter. You can get all sorts of information about your visitors like the following:
I have a tutorial on how to add the statcounter via an HTML snippet: Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet.

  • Hit counter not showing up..

I have the latest safari and snow leopard and iworks. Until recently a hit counter (on a webpage generated in iWeb) showed up fine. It continues to show up when I use Firefox (or on my iphone). Doesn't show up on my computer (either my main user or on a clean test account I have). I have tried the following: empty caches, empty history, remove cookies, log out of main account and log in to test account, and reinstall Safari. Don't know what else to try. Webpage in question is: web.mac.com/gemarcus/
Nothing has solved the problem.. So, suggestions?

    Hi George,
Best way is to run a Hit Counter in the background of the website.
NO, sorry I don't know the answer to your problem.
Sorry, I'm no help to you ...
Considering running the Hit Counter in the background, if you only like to know how many visitors you website has.
When it is for other purpose "just to looks good" than you can set the counter to a amount of HITS in front like "11.372 hits" or any other amount of hits, this looks better than starting with 1 hit.

  • New mail notification counter not appearing in dock

I've noticed recently that my new mail notification counter doesn't appear in the dock if I have Mail sitting in the background. I can be working in, say, Word, and not know I have new mail. Yet, when I go to Mail there are emails sitting there (and the dock counter appears as soon as I go to Mail.
Not a major problem, I agree, but it would be nice to fix it, if anyone has any suggestions.
    Cheers
    Phil

Thanks for the replies. I do have preferences set as you suggest but am not getting the notifications when Mail is in the background. I'll just live with it...
    Cheers

  • How do you track hits on hit counter in iWeb?

I have been creating a personal poetry website on iWeb and I am fairly new to Mac in general.  I found the Hit Counter button and added it to every page on my website.  My question is how do I see how many hits i have?  The hit counter does not show up on my published site.
    http://jennifercramer.site90.com/Jens_Site./Home.html

The hit counter only appears when you publish to MobileMe.
Search the iWeb Help for ftp to learn what else is not supported.
There are lots of alternative counters you can use.
Search this forum : hit counter

  • Hit Counter button not appearing when I upload the web site.

I am using iWeb version 3.0.4 on OS 10.6.8, and on the Welcome page, I added the Hit Counter button.  When I upload the web site, the Hit Counter button does not appear.  Anyone have any solutions as to why it isn't appearing?  Thanks...

Where are you hosting the site? The counter will not work on ftp servers, only on MobileMe.  If you are hosting on MobileMe increase the footer height considerable and publish. If the counter then appears you can move it closer to the body/footer border and reduce the footer height.
If you're not on MobileMe consider a 3rd party counter like StatCounter.  This tutorial describes how to add it to iWeb pages: #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet
If you're on MobileMe you know that MMe will be discontinued on June 30 of next year.  This may be of interest: #23 - Life After MobileMe

  • 2nd Hit Counter on Site not showing up on different page

I am so close to being done with my Illustration website- 11 pages and only one last bug I can't figure out. I have a second Welcome page that I have hidden and not yet posted. I have no idea where the the hit counter is on the page, it is checked off as there- it doesn't load online or visible on iWeb, yet Insert/button has it as there. I have another hit counter on the site that works fine. I have saved, relaunched, no hit counter on this page. Deleted it, tried again and no luck.
    Here is the site:
    http://web.mac.com/yvette
The page that I am working on but is not in the menu:
    http://web.mac.com/yvette/iWeb/Site%204/Welcome.html
The hyperlink works fine but no hit counter.
    Thanks-
    Y

no hit counter on this page
The hit counter is in the footer area, but you set the page content height too short, set content height longer or move hit counter out of the footer and into body area.
One other little issue- On my Menu, the "Fantasy" link doesn't let you use the Fanatsy section at the top of the page. It is one of 11 pages, all connect fine, this one is at the upper most right top
I think it is block by this image: http://web.mac.com/yvette/iWeb/Site%204/Menufiles/shapeimage9.png
You need to send it backward.

  • The hit counter button does not show up after publishing page.

I insert the hit counter button to a new blog post and when I publish, the button does not show up.
I would really like to use the counter as this is a blog for a class I am teaching, and I would like to track
    student viewing.
Also, sometimes the colors do not publish properly, specifically with links/rollover feature.
    Help!
And thanks in advance for all you who know wayyy more than I do!  I hope to return
    the favor someday.

First, thanks for the quick response Roddy.
Once I posted the question, similar topics came up and what
I did was remove the hit counter, publish the page without the hit counter.
Then inserted the hit counter again and wah-lah!
Thanks for your reply, this information is correct and helpful as well.
    Very appreciative!

  • IWeb '09 "Hit Counter"  Widget

Is the "hit counter" widget supposed to log a "hit" every time someone views/visits an/each individual page of a website, or only once per visit to the site? It appears that every page visited of the site registers a "hit." Is this usual and customary?

Normally I thought a hit counter just measured the amount of visitors to your site as a whole, not just individual pages.

  • Hit Counter on iWeb 08

After I published my page with iWeb 08 the hit counter disappeared from my site. It is still there in iWeb just not in the published site.
Is there a way to get it to work again? If I delete it and put it back in is there a way to start it at a given number so I don't have to start at zero again?

You might want to see if it is just a problem with Safari caching. Sometimes Safari draws on the cache instead of updating the page correctly. You can fix this in several ways. This is probably the easiest:
    Open Safari
In the 'Safari' menu choose 'empty cache'
Go to your web site and see if the counter appears.

  • MySQL database record hits counter?

Can I find out how many times a record from the MySQL databse was called and displayed on a web browser?Basically a MySQL database record hits counter. I’m using PHP/MySQL.

    >to the two files that were created
    >Two files?
Yes 2 files. In Dreamweaver CS3 & CS4 When using the "Insertà Data Objectsà Master Detail Page Set" function you must create two files:
    1. results.php
    2. detail.php
It appears that these two files work together hand in hand. You did not specify where nor how to include an update record set that gets executed every time another record set that I want to count fires. So I combined the two as one until it was clarified.
