Hit counter on .Mac

I've found that since upgrading to iWeb '08 the hit counter under My Pages on my .Mac home page is no longer there. It worked fine while I was working with iWeb '06. Everything else appears to be in order. The hit counter is working on the web page itself. Anyone with similar experiences?

I am having a similar issue: hit counter worked for a while but today it no longer appears in published folders/internet. Could there be a corrupt file(i.e .plst)?

  • Hit counter not showing in .mac

I have finally republished my web site in iWeb 08. I have si opages in total, and five of them helpfully show up in summary in my .mac homepage, together with a hit counter. However, the sith page is my home page, the one I mostly care about, and this isn't in the list. Is the .mac list limited to five pages? And if so, can I select which five pages it lists?

Take a look at TextEdit available in your Applications folder. Open it up and then look at the Preferences window. Click on the "Open and Save" tab and then check off the box to "ignore rich text commands".
Now you'll want to find your HTML file. If you are NOT publishing to .Mac, then you are using the "Publish to Folder" command in iWeb. You'll then be left with a folder full of files that make up your website. Look inside that folder and you should see a bunch of files that have the .html extension. These are the HTML files that you will want to edit. Find the .html file that is associated with your page. For example, if you page is named "welcome" then there should be a file called "welcome.html".
Control-click on the appropriate .html file and then select "Open with...". Choose TextEdit from the window and then you should see the HTML code for your page! Edit away and then when you are finished just type Apple-S to save your changes. Don't use "Save As..."...just Save.

  • .Mac front page hit counts list

Using iWeb with .Mac, I get hit counts only for the top 5 pages in my .Mac front page status column. I assume that's a standard and have found no settings to permit me to change this.
Is this it? Can we only monitor the counts for our top 5 pages without having to actually visit (and influence the counts of) the other pages?
If I'm missing something, I'd be grateful for a friendly hint on how to passively observe the hit totals on all marked pages. If this is just the nature of the beast, chalk it up as another straw in the growing pile under the sign labeled "frustrating shortcomings."

That's the way it's been since the Homepage days too. I'm not aware of any other way to show the "hits" for more than just the top 5.

  • Hit Counter For Web Site Now Working?

I have a web site that was published with iWeb 06. I am using a domain name at GoDaddy and forwarding to .Mac using masking so the site shows with the domain name not the .Mac address. If you went to the site by entering the domain name the hit counter on the first page would not show. However, if you entered the .Mac address to go to the site the counter would show.
Well the site was republished and upgraded with iWeb 08. Recently I noticed that the hit counter now shows regardless of how you go to the site. I was pleasantly surprised but when did this happen? Of course as others have noticed, on my .Mac home page on the side bar where the website pages are listed the counter numbers no longer show. So they took something away and gave something back?

I don't think Apple meant to take away the .Mac counter section of the .Mac page. I think it's a bug that they have yet to resolve. It would be interesting to see if anyone has asked Apple about this and if they gave a definitive answer?

  • Iweb page hit counter

If you are a .mac user you can click on Mac in the top menu bar. It lists Account, Mail, Address Book, My Pages, etc. Under My Pages, it lists hits for my . mac homepage pages and now I notice it will show hits for 5 of my iweb pages, but how can I choose which pages it it will show the hits to? My home page is the only page which has a counter and it is not one of those listed.
    Here is my site. http://web.mac.com/hooktrunk

Thanks. That was such a simple answer I feel quite silly. I wish I could assign certain pages instead. Oh well. Thanks again.

  • Hit Counter For Web Site

I've published a site to .Mac for a friend, and her domain name, which is hosted on godaddy is being forwarded to the .mac site. I'm using masking so only her domain name shows in the address bar of each page. That's all working well.
I've added a hit counter through iweb to the first page but it won't show up when I go to the site by using the domain name. If I go to it using the .mac address it shows up. What's odd is if I go to the site first by using the .mac address where the counter always shows up then go to the site by putting in the domain name it will then show up there as well. If I go to the site again later by the domain name-no counter. If I repeat this by using the .mac address first then going back, it's there.
I read other past posts about this issue but I didn't see if it could be completely resolved. I normally use Safari but even when I use Firefox it doesn't show up either.
    Can anyone help?
    John

    John:
If you added the hit counter from within iWeb then that's the reason it doesn't show up. It will only work on the .Mac server.
What you need to do is use StatCounter.com. It requires some post publication editing of the page that you want the counter on. If you make changes to the page later on then you'll have to reedit the page again.
What has been suggested is to put a text box with "STATCOUNTER" in it where you want the counter to appear. Then in the post publication file, search for STATCOUNTER and replace it with the code that the site provides you.
With that you can get daily, weekly hits, a world map of where the hits came from and lots more. There's a variety of text or image counters.
In this site, Old Toad's Tutorials I put the STATCOUNTER in the main text box at the bottom and make the text orange. When I added the counter, it comes up in the text and color that I chose. If you put it in it's own text box, you can use the stye that StatCounter provides when you set up the counter.

  • Hit counter, hyperlink appearance, fetch questions

Hi. New to Mac/Iweb. Hope you don't mind a compound question -
I rebuilt my site recently using Iweb (www.joshbass.com), and for the most part, like it very much. However, there are a couple things I'm lost on. My settings tell me that on my hyperlinks, they're supposed to be white when "normal", and turn red on rollover. However, I have three browsers right now, IE, Firefox, and Safari, and only in Firefox do they behave correctly. In the other two browsers they simply stay white when rolled over.
Secondly, I wanted to put a hit counter in (I believe there's no other way to measure traffic with this program, right?), but I'm NOT using .mac. So I found a random free counter, pasted the code into a web widget, and in Iweb it looked fine. Once published, not so much. Doesn't show up at all. Tried all the browsers, no difference.
Third, I was wondering if there's a simple way to tie Fetch (for FTP) to Iweb, so that as I update the site in Iweb, I can publish only the changes, instead of FTPing the entire site's contents. There are indeed directions in the Iweb help files, but I'm afraid of doing something dumb and publishing garbage.
    Thanks.

    hi derek,
    1) the hit counter is a .mac only feature! you need to get an alternative counter such as statcounter:

    2)yes - check these instructions

  • Hit Counter on iWeb

Is there any way to track hits on my site without putting that ugly hit counter on my page? - A way that only I can see and no one else?

There are many ways to hide .mac hit counter, see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1423294&tstart=25
and here is javascript way, just add the following to your page using HTML Snippet:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
        parent.document.getElementById('CounterDiv').style.visibility = 'hidden';
    </script>

  • Views Counts on iWeb Hit Counter

Is there any way to view the number of counts for a page using the iWeb-provided hit counter without going to the actual published page and thereby 'hitting' the site? My .mac account site provides a hit count for my iWeb pages but only for the top 5 pages. How can I see the count for all pages? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions, Tatnall.
No, there isn't currently a way to see the count of any page (without visiting it)outside your top 5 using the .Mac counters.
Many users who need more information have taken to applying other counters to their pages like StatCounter.

  • The iWeb hit counter on Tue, Oct 10, 2006     9:00 AM  PST

    Tue, Oct 10, 2006 8:58 AM PST
Is everyone else with the iWeb hit counter getting a white question mark in a blue box? My hit counter has been out ever since yesterday afternoon. For a brief time it reappeared and now it is gone again.
    Thank you.
    Lorna in Southern California

The counters are back now, but hits made during the outage don't seem to have counted (there were no cookies from my iWeb pages at that time). There is more on this on another thread.
By the way, Lorna, I didn't answer your last question to me some time ago - my Japanese is far from fluent, but I get by.

  • Iweb hit counter stats

I know I can get a 3rd party hit counter, but I am curious if I can see how many hits my site has received without visiting the site itself? In the old, old .mac Homepage you could see how many hits yoru site received when you logged into your .mac account on Apple's website. Is there a place to do this with iweb? I don't need any fancy stats. Just curious about hits.

  • How do you track hits on hit counter in iWeb?

I have been creating a personal poetry website on iWeb and I am fairly new to Mac in general.  I found the Hit Counter button and added it to every page on my website.  My question is how do I see how many hits i have?  The hit counter does not show up on my published site.
    http://jennifercramer.site90.com/Jens_Site./Home.html

The hit counter only appears when you publish to MobileMe.
Search the iWeb Help for ftp to learn what else is not supported.
There are lots of alternative counters you can use.

  • Hit Counter Not Working :(

I want to add the "hit counter" on my welcome page, but when I go to publish it...it does not appear. It doesn't even appear on iWeb. What am I doing wrong??

    SPV:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Is it still linked to the old site?
If you published you site to your second .Mac account then you'll have tow versions of it out there. One on the first account and the one on the new account. They will have different URLs as the default URL will be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/.Mac account name/
So unless you deleted it from the first account each account will have that site. If you don't want the site on the first account go to the iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb folder for that account and look for the folder with the sites name and delete it. There will be an index.html file there also you can delete.

  • Hit Counter not appearing.

OK I'm using iWeb, the URL is at Godaddy, but the hosting is at my /mac account. I have the family pac. Two web sites the hit counter works just fine. A third one I got it to work on a page where I don't need it, but can't get it to SHOW on the page where I want it. I've tried to put it anywhere on the page, and have restarted etc etc. Suggestions?

  • Problems with hit counter

I have been making updates to my web page for an ongoign period and,as hoped, my hit counter continued to maintain the number of hits without resetting. Recently, I updated the web site and he hit counter, for some reason, reset to zero.It wouldn'tbe so bad but the hit counter now shows up on the website and won't increment no matter how many hits get to the website.
Why is my hit counter locked on zero?
