Hit highlighting

I just upgraded to Reader X and discovered that it no longer supports hit highlighting. I used this feature extensively in version 9. Will the "enable search highlights from external highlight server" feature be restored in version X? If not I will  need to downgrade to version 9. Thank you.

  • Hit highlighting (PDF) is not working with Safari

We have been facing a weird problem with PDF documents displayed in Safari. This problem is reproducible in many of our machines. The problem is like this..
Adobe Reader has support for hit highlighting in PDF documents when it is being viewed in any browser. For example,
    http://www.mysite.com/myfile.pdf#xml=http://www.somesite.com/words.txt
This URL should highlight the words specified in words.txt file. But, unfortunately many of our Safari browsers (on Windows machines) don't highlight any text in opened pdf file. The same URL works fine in rest of the browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome). I could not figure out where the problem is!
Can anybody please help me on this?
    Thanks in advance,

Go step by step and test.

  • Hit Highlighting in PDF Web Search

In Acrobat Reader 9, under Edit > Preferences > Search, "Enable search highlights from external highlight server" option is by default set to false. For those of us who use third party search engines to search PDF files on the web, this is a disaster. The only way to enable hit highlighting in this situation is to have users change their settings manually, which is a lot to ask of people who are not tech savvy.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Would Adobe change the default settings to true in future versions? Is there some kind of workaround?
    Thanks,
    Simon

Why did Adobe change the defaut? I am installing dtSearch and it works great in Adobe 8 and below. But Adobe changed version 9 changed and so now the hits do not show and the "Jump to next Hits" and "Jump to previous Hits" does not show on the Adobe toolbar.
My problem is that this makes dtSearch look bad - like their search page is no good.
If I create web pages using dtSearch, the users will not know enough to set the Enable search highlights from external highlight server.
Even if I put a big note on the web page, I know that people will not read it and they will think that the web page is buggy.
I sure wish Adobe would put this back and make Enable search highlights from external highlight server the default.

    Hi Vikas,
The recommendation is not to modify the out of box display templates.  Whenever new patch or service pack applied Microsoft can update those out of box display templates, then you modified version will be lost.
So, create a copy of the display template and make the changes as per your requirement.  Once created new display template you can map it with the required result type and query rules.  Please refer to the following article.

Please don't forget to mark it as answered, if your problem resolved or helpful.

  • Hit highlighted summary problems

I have an issue/question regarding the hit highlighted summary returned by SharePoint 2013 search.
I am using the api in c# ( Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.KeywordQuery class)
to perform a search in order to return a list of documents and display them in a formatted list, I also want to display a few lines of the textual context.
In quite a few cases the correct documents are found when using a simple keyword, however the keyword used does not appear in the hit highlighted summary. I have tried increasing the number of sentences returned in the hithighlightedsummary property e.g.
keywordquery.highlightedsentencecount = 10 but still none of these sentences have the keyword in them.
Can anyone let me know what is happening here?
    Thanks,
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
You can change the length of the search result summary using the Query.SummaryLength property.

  • Reader X Search highlighting problem

I've just updated to Reader X & have discovered that the 3rd party search hit highlighting feature is no longer there. I do a lot of searching of online newspaper archives & the loss of the highlighted search term on a page is a major problem. Is there an alternative to uninstalling Reader X & reinstalling an earlier version?
On a more philosophical point - why do software updates so often remove the most useful [to me] features?

    re: Acrobat 9.4.5
Ruined as of June 16, 2011
I just talked to support. They promise a fix in about a week (translation - July).
The only workaround they offer is to uninstall & install to the last version you have on disc. Helpful, huh?
Inundate them please: 800-642-3623 (press 2, then press 2 again for Acrobat tech support)

  • What affects whether a word that i searched for will be highlighted in search results?

What affects  whether a word that i searched for will be highlighted in search results?
For example: i'm searching "kookoo" and get results.
Sometimes in  search results the word is in Bold in title as:
Sometimes not (for the same file that was found!)
Does it depends whether the search is "from scratch" as in the home page of search or after another search fine tuning? after move to page 2 of results? etc.
    keren tsur

    Hi,
my question was regarding what affect whether the searched text will be in bold in the search result or not (not the sort of the search results). The strange thing is that sometimes the searched text is in bold in the result and sometimes not...
    thanks
    keren tsur
    Hi Keren,
Any records in the search result treat as a document; SharePoint 2013 crawler takes the document and crawled & indexed in the file system. So the data display in the search result is take care by the
    HitHilightedSummary
    MP.
So when search term matched with the document it bold that text and displays the first and last character corresponding to
that document (result). if it’s not match it return the any random text from the document and displays in the search results.
If you customized the search result and display your own Managed Properties retuned as hit highlighted. Please follow the this blog

  • Adobe X - "Search highlights from external highlight server" no longer exists

We have a document management system that highlights search text on PDF documents from an external hit highlighting server.
The current version of adobe X does not seem to support this.  This was a very good feature in adobe for the document management industry. Can we please get to know why this feature was disabled ?
Also, Is there a way by any chance that we can enable this feature ? if not does Adobe have any plans to restore this feature in the next release.
    Please respond.
    Thanks

  • Adding Description or Content Preview to Search Result Web Part

    Hello,
I am on Sharepoint Online 2013 working on an enterprise wiki site. I've added a search result web part and configured a query to return the results I want. The
Results Control Display Template is set to Default and the
Result type for item is set to Sharepoint Wiki.
    Is there a way to
    1) Customize the item display template to add in a description value, or show the first 'x' number of characters from the content?
    2) Customize the hover display to show only the body content (instead of complete page), or increase the zoom level where the content area is shown larger?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had images to attach but will have to attach them later as I cannot until my account is verified.

  • An visual illustration of my problem with V4's "process 2012"

Tonight's sunset taken with a Nikon D700 w/400mm f2.8 lens. Here is the same photo and its virtual copy with very little done to them yet except one is set to 2012 and the other set to 2010. both were left at Adobe Standard, then set to auto tone to get the fairest comparison possible:
2012. Notice the thick yellow transition of mostly one color. While the background looks a little clearer, you must butcher it to death in order to smooth out that ugly band.
And I am pretty sure the shadow color is very slightly "off".  I realize that "off" is relative, but I would call this one "off" because it is the newer process. This 2012 color might actually look slightly better, but that's not the point --it should look identical to 2010 "as shot". But I can live with that --the big issue is what is causing the thick ugly band.
2010:   Notice that the gradient from bright to dark is much smoother (and easier to work with). This is a much easier start point for developing.  I'd say 10 steps max would turn this into a decent image.  I have no idea if it could even be done in 2012.
This is the core of my problem with 2012 --the contrast does not work evenly across all brightnesses.  They made some things look good at the great expense of others. You cannot adjust one brightness range of a photo without thoroughly trashing another.
2012 appears to work great on perfect auto-matrix-exposed photos of medium dynamic range.  Another kind of photo I take are action event photos in uneven arena lighting which are all deliberately underexposed because there is no second chance to capture a winning moment (a blown-out photo will not get used by an exhibitor -- this camera body is quite forgiving of underexposure). These are similarly difficult to work with in 2012 for the same reasons.
How many types of different photos (e.g., action, portrait, landscape, various exposure extremes, etc)  was this alpha version tested on?  And who do they have evaluating these test results, software engineers or actual artists?
One answer might be to just keep using 2010 --that is not the point I am trying to make.  That would mean this product is no longer improving for me, the user.
Any constructive feedback, suggestions, links, history lessons, etc. would be very appreciated.

    Hi George,
You're welcome. And, nice view from your backyard!
Yeah, I think it's a common mistake to dive into the shadows or highlights slider before taking a good-enough whack at exposure. And, in my opinion, nothing wrong with doing that, as long as you remember that exposure is a very key adjustment in PV2012, and it should always be revisited before finalizing / fine tuning. It's always good to take a whack at contrast too before hitting highlights and shadows, but in my opinion, it is far less critical to overall tonability than exposure is. Once exposure is set correctly, you can fine tune contrast & highlights/shadows with relative impunity, but it does not work so well to try and set contrast/highlights/shadow and then fine tune exposure.
Also, it's possible that exposure needs to be set higher on average than most newerbies realize, and if it's too bright knock it down with -highlights and -blacks. The opposite may also be true for some people, I don't know. But for me, in Lr3, I was very careful not to set exposure too high for fear of blowing out the highlights (and not being a big fan of Lr3 highlight recovery), *and* I was careful not to set brightness too high to keep from washing out the midtones. Which left fill-light, which I used to brighten, but Lr3 fill would often degrade quality if pushed too hard. So, I often lived with not optimally brightened photos, brightened here or there with a touch of tone curve (and/or locals).
That same technique does not work so well in Lr4, since shadows slider may not have enough kick to it until exposure is boosted - one of the reasons people coming from Lr3 often complain about Lr4 shadows slider, before they've really learned how to set exposure.
In Lr4, highlight recovery is sorta like an improved right-side version of Lr3 fill. i.e. one can "over-brighten", and rely on highlights slider to check it (analogous to "under-brightening" in Lr3 and using fill to compensate). -whites is more akin to Lr3 highlight recovery, only different...
Another thing: I almost always start out editing with the exact same values for -highlights as +shadows. And only during fine tuning, maybe choose to diverge. It's surprising how often having those values equal and opposite can allow one to find the correct exposure, and only then, maybe, skew highlights/shadows, as a fine tuning thing.
Also, for concert photos, or any other situation when there is a big lump of really dark tones that are important, and a small lump of really light tones that are important (e.g. concert lights), and a dearth of midtones, -whites and +blacks sliders can play bigger roles than -highlights and +shadows for "recovery & fill", than in other more "normal" photos.
Lastly, my Lr4 tone curves, more often than not (and more often than in Lr3), have a debrightening shape to them, since sometimes it seems good to set exposure higher than I really want in order to achieve overall "tonability", then drop brightness strategically using the curve (and/or locals).
I'm sure other people do things differently with equal success.
PS - Where should I send the DNG? (you can contact me via PM or my website).
    Final thoughts:
The "recipe" I've given here (-blacks, +whites, relatively high exposure & contrast, fairly strong -highlight = +shadows, a modicum of clarity) makes for a very punchy photo with highly detailed shadows, midtones, and highlights. I tend to like such a look on many photos - shooting landscapes and macros, etc... But it can be a bit too intense for portraits or if for whatever reason you prefer a more subtle "natural"/neutral look. One of the awesome things about PV2012 is that you can control the style of look you get. If you want the opposite, then do the opposite, e.g. easy on the -blacks or even use +blacks instead of +shadows, back off on the contrast and exposure so you need less -highlights, use whites = 0 or -whites. You can end up with a very old-school photo kinda look that way - more subtle and gentle, softer...
    Rule 5: Enjoy!
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Can the Adobe PDF plugin carry exact phrase search criteria through from source system into Reader?

In SharePoint 2013 if you search for an exact phrase and then view a PDF that is returned by the search (in Reader via the PDF plugin) then the Reader will treat the complete phrase as individual words.
For example, search for "High Court" in SharePoint, get returned a set of PDF documents, and when you view one of them through the Reader the hit highlighting will be for each instance of "High" or "Court".
What is wanted is hit highlighting only of instances of "High Court".
I get the same behavior if the Adobe PDF plugin is installed with the Filesite DMS. So it seems to be standard behavior for the Adobe PDF plugin
Is there a way to make the Adobe PDF plugin carry exact phrase search criteria through from source system into Reader? And then hit highlight the exact phrase only.

    Hi Sam,
You can opt for 'Advance Search' option in Reader to match the whole words to get to the specific documents.
