Hitachi DVD Camcorder & Imovie 08 - not getting along

I am unable to import my video's onto my macbook with this camera. I realize I need a new camera that is compatible with my Mac, but in the interim I need to get my video's onto my mac so I can get them transferred onto a normal size DVD disc and make copies of them for others. Is the best option to do this to get an external USB dvd drive? The camera is a Hitachi DZ-MV230A that records on the mini disc's, and because I have a slot drive on the mac, I can't use insert the mini in there for fear of never getting it back out !! Thanks in advance.

Assuming the camera isn't an HD camera, the little tape is probably a miniDV tape for video and the card is probably for photos. It would help if we knew which camera, but for know I'll assume it's mini DV. In which case you'll need a fire cable for it, there are different sort of firewire cable so if you need to get one, make sure you ask for one for a video camera.
For the next step you'd be better with your instructions since it often makes a difference if you don't do things in the correct order, but in essence open imovie, plug in your camera turn it on and into playback mode, when imovie should recognise it from where you can then control it and import the video from imovie controls. (things may vary a little but you'd be best knowing the model and finding (or downloading) a set of instructions.

  • Safari and yahoo mail not getting along

    Safari and Yahoo Mail don't seem to be getting along this past month

    Hi powerbook1701!
    It is a shame...Yahoo has always been bad with Safari...I think most people here keep a copy of Firefox/Camino for cases like this when webdesigners don't make their pages compatible with Safari. It's not much of a problem anymore but there are still a few sites depending on where you surf...
    Actually the reason I started using Mail is because the standard Yahoo mail wouldn't display custom fonts, etc. on Mac. At that time not even with Firefox for Windows. But I'm glad that I switched because I enjoy using Mail much more that Yahoo's webmail which by the way was never good at searching...
    Oops this sounds like Yahoo bashing!!! It's not meant to be...just letting you know other people have the same issues you're experiencing...

  • Keychain and gpg-agent not getting along

    I have a problem with gpg-agent. I have been using the Funtoo keychain tool for a while, for my SSH keys exclusively. Works flawlessly - I log in, I call keychain, I type in my passphrases, and it caches my keys. Never get prompted for a passphrase during SSH connection attempts.
    GPG is a different story. I have a GPG key, and I occasionally en- and decrypt files with it. So far so good. I also found out how to get keychain to cache the GPG key. It also picks up my gpg-agent, which is started as per the wiki entry (except that instead of putting it systemwide in /etc/profile.d, I put it in Openbox's ~/.config/openbox/environment file, which is where the SSH agent stuff is supposed to go as well.
    Gpg-agent seemingly launches fine, it exports its environment variables just fine:
    $ echo $GPG_AGENT_INFO
    /tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1
    $ cat .gnupg/gpg-agent.env
    GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1
    There's only one gpg-agent process running:
    $ ps aux|grep gpg-agent
    luser 2352 0.0 0.0 16252 1184 ? Ss 00:00 0:00 gpg-agent --daemon --write-env-file /home/stijn/.gnupg/gpg-agent.env
    luser 3411 0.0 0.0 9276 1016 pts/0 S+ 00:16 0:00 grep gpg-agent
    Keychain picks that up as well:
    $ keychain --eval
    * keychain 2.7.1 ~ http://www.funtoo.org
    * Found existing ssh-agent: 2346
    SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-YhDgORoL2345/agent.2345; export SSH_AUTH_SOCK;
    SSH_AGENT_PID=2346; export SSH_AGENT_PID;
    * Found existing gpg-agent: 2352
    GPG_AGENT_INFO=/tmp/gpg-3faT29/S.gpg-agent:2352:1; export GPG_AGENT_INFO;
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-amalthea
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-athena
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-zeus
    * Known ssh key: /home/stijn/.ssh/id_rsa-mnemosyne
    * Known gpg key: [8 digit hex key]
    However, when I open Mutt (or just try to decrypt about any GPG encrypted file), it will prompt me for the passphrase, despite the key already being cached. Passing --use-agent does not help (I also set that in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf).
    The bizarre thing being, of course, that the keychain-cached key did not get picked up, but if I enter my passphrase into the prompt I get the first time I call gpg, it does seem to get cached - I can open mutt, decrypt files, etc., it will all use that cached key.
    Any tips? I get the feeling I'm missing something, but couldn't find what exactly.

    Gpg-agent by itself works fine, although I get the feeling that, a bit like sudo, there's an expiration date on the cached key - it seems I need to type the passphrase again after a few hours or so.
    Either way, I'd love to get this working with keychain.

  • ITunes 7.1 and Norton Anti-virus do not get along!

    Sounds like Itunes 7.1 is causing hella problems for everyone out there. Add me to the list. My Itunes works, my library is there, but this update, unlike every previous update Itunes has done, is not recognized by Norton Antivirus. Every 2-3 seconds I get an Internet Worm Protection Notice about Itunes, asking me if I want to allow it access. I of course say yes.....and then the same window pops up again. Extremely annoying.... I've also lost the ability to view other people's libraries over my local area network...not cool.
    Any suggestions of what I can do within either Itunes or Norton Antivirus (2005....all latest updates) to regain my sanity?
    HP Pavillion   Windows XP

    i'm with CoJeff on this one.
    typically it's the firewall with NIS 2005 (or standalone Norton Personal Firewall) that causes grief with iTunes. (we've had these issues dating back to the iTunes 4.8 days with NIS 2005), but every now and then i see reports of that worm protection feature causing grief in similar ways.
    the amount of reports of problems with NIS 2006 and 2007 are literally a couple of orders of magnitude less than with NIS 2005. so it may be worth just upgrading to one of the more recent versions.
    ... if you'd prefer to stick with your 2005, though, let us know and we can try running through a few of techniques we've used to deal with this.

    I made a .dmg file from a DVD and was able to import the video to iMovie, but there is no sound. When I click on the .dmg on my desktop it shows two folders, one labeled VIDEO_TS and the other AUDIO_TS. Any suggestions?

    Just got a e4200, very happy. However I also have a cisco av power line adapter which worked fine. However when connecting to the 4200 it doesn't recognize the Internet. Have rebooted, reset switched ports etc. But it still doesn't work. It sees the network but not the Internet. Have tried everything ikon but no luck. Any ideas for router settings? Any suggestions at all. Cannot connect my directive to the Internet. If I can't get it to work will have to run a 50 foot cable.
    Thanks in advance to all.

  • My new Quad Core iMac Not Getting Along With LG External.

    I just got a new Quad Core iMac. It's great, except for one this:
    My LG Flatron W1953T insists on a 1360 x 768 resolution. Unfortunately, the Displays control panel does not offer that as an option. The closes is 1280 x 768, which means I have a stretched image, which does not work for reading or looking at photos. The LG does not allow me to change its resolution.
    How do I get my way-cool new iMac to offer 1360 x 768 as an output?
    Thanks!

  • Adobe GoLive and Safari 5 not getting along

    Hello.
    I was trying to update a web page on a site that I'd created with Adobe GoLive version 8.x. Every time I tried opening the site files in GoLive, I got a crash. I decided to quit out of Safari 5 which was still running in the background to see if that would help. It didn't. I found a partial workaround to getting into my page, and it doesn't seem to be Safari's fault.
    I guess more than a Safari question, is are there any good, current Web Site Authoring packages for the Mac out there? I really don't feel like paying $200 for upgrading to Adobe's Dreamweaver software.
    If this is the wrong forum for this question, I apologize. Please direct me to where I should post this question.
    Thanks for your help.

    HI,
    Not sure if this will help but worth a try.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. On the right open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
    Look for a file similar to this: com.adobegolive.plist (not exact wording but close)
    Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac. Try opening the site in GoLive now.

  • Powerbook (digital audio) and 1/8" jack NOT getting along

    ok see if you can help me troubleshoot this.
    i bought two of these cables:
    <http://www.cablesforless.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2779>
    "Our Custom Made 3.5mm Male to 2-Male 1/4 inch phono plugs audio cables are perfect for connecting your speakers and microphones. These cables feature Belden's 1800B digital XLR cable and Steren® precision machined connectors. To ensure maximum signal integrity and protection from RF and electromagnetic interference the cable also features a Beldfoil® shield and fully shielded connectors. Professional termination using high grade solder ensures optimal signal transmission. Designed for optimal sound quality, Belden's performance speaks for itself. Compare Belden's specifications (below) with those of other digital XLR cables and see for yourself how Belden cable is unmatched. Belden Brilliance® teamed with Steren Connectors brings audio to life!"
    sounds good, right? they both exhibit the following symptoms.
    i'm using it in the headphone jack of my powerbook g4 15" and going out to a little mixer so i can hear system audio, itunes, etc. through my system. this longer cable is replacing a monster cable of the same kind (but shorter).
    i'm getting absolutely HORRIBLE buzz when i plug it into the headphone port. if i jiggle it a bit i can get it to behave but only if it sits just right.
    on a crt imac and an older titanium powerbook G4 the issue is much better. i still hear a line hum. i wouldn't want to record like this, but it's not a nightmare.
    on an ipod plugged into the power adapter it works beautifully. however, i CAN get it to buzz horribly if i jiggle the plug as i insert/remove it.
    eyeballing it with the monster cable tip, it looks exactly the same.
    so on one hand, the monster cable works great in all uses.
    the cablesforless cable works terribly on the powerbook but nowhere else.
    now here's a clue: the powerbook G4 has combination analog/digital input and analog/digital output jacks. i haven't been able to repeat it reliably, but the cablesforless cable seems to be able to trigger the digital interface part, as evidenced by a red light shooting out of the port.
    unplugging the powerbook totally removes the buzz.
    i get the buzz when this cable is in EITHER the input or output jack.
    tried a different power supply in a different jack in the same room... same results both ports (slightly different tone to the buzz)
    if i remove the little mixer and plug the 1/4" cable ends into two inputs on a practice amp, i get the same issue.
    finally, i got another digital audio powerbook g4 15" and the connection seems to be slightly more reliable, but still problematic.

    For starters, EPUB is a profile of XHTML, not HTML5. Further, audio and video support are part of the recently-approved EPUB3, which the release notes for ADE 1.8 explicitly say is not yet fully supported. Specifically, <epub:trigger> will allow you to use audio and video: http://idpf.org/epub/30/spec/epub30-contentdocs.html#sec-xhtml-epub-trigger
    Do these EPUB files that you're not seeing in ADE pass validation? http://validator.idpf.org/
    Basically, it sounds like you're trying to do things that ADE isn't supposed to support yet, and in a way it is unlikely to ever support (since ADE is known to be pretty conformant to the EPUB standards, it's very likely it will support the EPUB3 version of doing things rather than the hackery I've seen for Apple's reader).

  • New hard drive and itunes not getting along

    I purchases a new external hard drive for my i mac dv 400. the hard drive was getting too full. I need to put itunes on the new hard drive but during install it tells me that i tunes needs to be in the start up volume. what does this mean? is it still possible to get the bulk of itunes on the new drive. or am I stuck again

    Hopefully someone there can help me with this problem which is related to backing up using external hard drives and two MACs. I back up using my Laptop and G5 by periodically copying the most up to date Itunes library to the other one. I use the external hard drive to copy them back and forth while at the same time, having a 3rd copy. However, everytime I do this, when I go to play a "purchased" song from my purchased songs in the library, I get the message that this is the 2nd and then 3rd and the 4th....computer I am downloading to and I only have 5 allowable downloads. Evidently, Itunes is not recognizing that this is a same computer that I have been using as a back up. Hopefully this problem is clear to those of you reading this. Any suggestions?

  • Apple and Xfinity not getting along - help

    I have a MacBook Pro, I pad and Iphone.  I have been using my Macbook pro wirelessly at home for a long time and all of a sudden none of my Mac products will connect to my Xfinity wireless network.  All of our other non Mac laptops and printers are connecting to the Xfinity network just fine.  I use to automatically connect when I turned my Mac on but now it doesn't and if I try to join it times out immediately. My Mac still connects at work just fine (I haul it back and forth).  How do I fix this so my Apple products - specifically my MacBook can connect with my home wireless system?

    Determine first if the Macs can even get a hint of the wireless network with a program such as iStumbler.  Find someplace with a working internet connection to download iStumbler and copy it to a USB stick:
    http://istumbler.net
    This will at least let you know if your Mac can even see the network.  If it can't it may be the hardware is losing its signal.   Note there is a range within a WiFi access point where overlapping waves are too strong and cancel each other out too closed to the access point.    The best range is between 5 feet and 150 feet direct line of sight. File cabinets and piping can interfere with this.

  • Apple Mail and Aol Imap not getting along

    I'm not a computer genius so I'm having a really hard time figuring this out and I hope someone out there can help me. I have the most current version of Leopard on my Macbook. I've always used my AOL Imap account on this computer and it's always worked just fine. The past few days, it's not working at all. When I try to send an email, it doesn't look like it's going to go through, then it goes to my outbox. But then I find out that the email actually did send. I am getting NO incoming mail whatsoever. But I'm getting it on my iphone just fine. I've changed my port number from 993 to 587 to see if that works, and it didn't. I've even completely deleted the aol imap account and then reset it up. Still didn't work. Please help.

  • Gmail and Mavericks are not getting along.

    Gmail used to work so nicely with iMail, but ever since the upgrade to Mavericks, things started going all screwy. I know that Apple released an update for the problem, but that hasn't worked.
    I checked for other software updates and there are no new ones. Everything is up to date.
    I have been able to zero in on the problem: Incoming emails are not an issue. They show up on all devices. I if open an email on Mail and delete it, it syncs with the other devices as well.
    The problem stems from what I do if the email is opened or deleted on a different device. Thats when Mail on the Mac won’t sync. It will still show the email with the blue icon showing it’s new and unopened, and it will stay in the inbox even if I sent it to trash anywhere else.
    Has anyone else run in to this problem, and if so, have you been able to fix it?
    All help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Its really depends what kind of computer your using, is it old? If you are using a PC, in some cases it really does matter which port you plug your ipod into. Try every port (cept for back ones).
    Its weird because people usually see this when they Jailbreak their ipod and try to upgrade it, you get bricked by the new software which supposedly locks hacked components of the ipod, but since its happening to your nano too, then its either itunes or its the computer.
    If you are on a PC look in my computer and see if your ipod comes up when you plug it in. It should just come up in the window for a miminal amount of time. If it does then its your itunes.
    What kind of question is that? always download new versions! they can contain vital information for your ipod.
