I just changed my old Socket A set to a new MSI K8N Neo Platinum + A64 3000 + 512 MB Pc3200.
As i started it up for the first time, it seemed to work ok, until it started to load windows XP from the HD. It restarts after 10-15 secs. By turning auto restart on system failure off in the Windows start up menu, i got to see an error message: "0x0000007B". The system seems to have trouble with starting windows after the mb switch.
I looked it up on MS's homepage and got instructed to reinstall window. It seems that windows cant load the new mb chipset drivers and so on automatically, they sort of clash with my old via socket a mb-drivers. The second alternative MS gave me was: repartition the harddrive, format and THEN reinstall windows. :(
I really dont feel like reinstalling, what with loosing all the program and game settings and installs and so on (and on and on and on) , so i wanted to know, is there an easy way out of this?

Whoa! Hang on. Just do a repair install. It's no big deal. It will keep all your settings and all your software intact. You will need to reinstall windows critical updates, so don't connect to the internet until you've started your software firewall, unless you're behind a router/fw in which case you're safe. Also, you'll need to Re-Activate XP, which is simple too.
After you do the repair install and get into windows, then load the system drivers (and sound drivers if needed) off of the MSI disk.
I was amazed at how simple this whole process was - and when I was done I was staring at the same desktop, just at new superfast speed (I upgraded from a 450mhz to the AMD 64 3000+).

ITunes 10 on Windows install prob solved

After a very frustrating experience trying to uninstall/reinstall iTunes 10 on a Vista machine using Norton, my difficulties were actually resolved by bypassing a Netgear wireless router.
I was repeatedly getting "invalid signature" upon downloading the iTunesSetup.exe regardless of firewalls/Norton being enabled/disabled.
I simply connected to my cable modem directly to the machine and re-established a connection.
Ran the exe as administrator and everything installed fine.
I hope this helps anyone experiencing the same frustration, and provides a possible solution.

Yes, that solution (to bypass wireless router and connect directly to a cable modem) has been posted many times over the past year.
Some sort of setting in the router is letting the file download enough to be considered "complete", but obviously something is not downloading correctly, or the error message wouldn't occur.
Nobody has ever posted back if updating Netgear drivers or fiddling with MTU settings fixes this.

To set the default boot volume use the Startup Manager system preferences once you are booted back into the OSX. Then you would only need the option key at boot time to boot into the "other" OS.

Will my Bootcamp Windows Install Remain after SSD Install

I currently have a i5 Mac Mini 5.1 with the standard 500gb hard drive installed. Presently the drive is split as 340gb for OSX and 160gb for Windows 8.1 running under Bootcamp. My plan is to install a 250gb SSD in addition to the original 500gb HDD onto which I will clone over my current OSX install, then format the 340gb partition onto which I will then move over my home folder and files whilst keeping the SSD for OSX and applications for optimum performance. My plan is to leave the Bootcamp partition as it is.
My question is will the 160gb Windows 8.1 Bootcamp partition still work or will I have to wipe that partition and start again by re-bootcamping my mac?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Tell us some version numbers please, of your Mac OS versions and iTunes versions on both computers (two eMacs yes?).

Cannot log into windows network account after Bootcamp install

Hi All,
I have a 27" Intel i3 iMac with Mountain Lion 10.8.7. Its connected to a windows server. To access my account on the Mac I log in with a username and password. Yesterday I had Bootcamp with a 32bit version of Windows installed. After the Windows was installed successfully, my 'Helpdesk' had to remote access in and run patches on the windows installation. All good so far.
I tried to log into my mac account this morning with username and password. There is a little red light beside your username. I had no luck what so ever. My account has vanished of my mac. I could 'locally' log in under the adminstrator account. There was no sign of my account in the users & groups.
I had back upped my files except for the download folder. I eventually found the download folder and was able to back that up.
please please can someone explain what has happened here.
My IT guy has no Apple trianing and wants to remove my mac and replace it with the a PC because they support them. I feel it was a bad bootcamp installtion done by the IT tech, he did mention that he installed a 32 bit windows instead of a 64 bit. Its lack of trainign and understanding that has caused this.
I am trying to make an argument to say that it was simplay a bad Bootcamp installtion and try and find simliar cases to back it up.

Mac partition was still there as I was able to log into the Administrator account on the mac. But when I went into users and groups there was no sign of my account. I'll agree it was a bad install, jsut need to explain it and back it up so that I can make that argument.

Hi, I had the same problem and I found that you don't need a serial number anymore. Here is what I did:
(1)I went to Applications fodder on my Mac. (You can navigate to the Application folder from 'New Finder Window.')
(2) Deleted Pages (installed as part of the free free trial version) from the Applications Folder. Also deleted 'IWorks' from the Applications folder.
(3) Started AppStore.
(4) Clicked on Purchases.
(5) Clicked on Pages.
(6) Clicked Install.
(4) repeated (5) and (6) for Numbers and Keynote

Last week suddenly, after having changed or installed nothing, trying to boot into windows resulted in a frozen glowy window logo 'Starting Windows', which resulted in having to format the windows partition.
Since then I've found out that I can do everything except install gfx drivers.
I've installed firefox, all bootcamp drivers except gfx, swtor (doesn't run of course, but installs fine), quicktime, rebooting is fine after all this...
But as soon as I install any kind of graphics driver and reboot, it freezes at the glowy window logo.
I have tried;
The bootcamp included gfx driver
Windows Update included gfx driver
Official nVidia latest beta driver
Official nVidia latest whql driver
Official nVidia oldest whql driver
nVidia Cuda driver, both versions
All give the same result
I have formatted the entire harddrive and written zeros and made the windows partition in a physically different location to make sure it's not a harddrive issue, no luck.
I have tried both Windows 7 x86 and x64 with matching drivers, same results.
Tried booting with no devices attached, no luck.
This all seems to me like a bust gfx card, were it not that under Lion everything works fine, even gaming (WoW).
Techtool Pro's test machine shows no errors.

I am running Lion on a Mac Mini Server wherein I placed a Bootcamp partition and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I've been testing Windows Media Center using a CableCard Tuner installed in a SiliconDust HomeRun box.
All was well until I received a Windows notification of an NVIDIA driver update. After the update, I now freeze at the same point that you do in the Windows startup splash screen.
I rolled back the driver using the Windows control panel associated with the device. Still freezes.
Windows repair does not have a fix. I can't get windows to start in "safe mode" so I can remove the additional apps that NVIDIA installed during the update.
I'm certain the freeze is associated with the NVIDIA driver.

IP address conflict on Windows 7 clients after change 3560 to 3650

after a switch change 3560 to 3650 some Windows 7 clients show a popup with the message "IP address conflict". Because of using manual DHCP (MAC reserve an IP address) i would exclude the possibilitiy of using an duplicate IP address. After search i found this document:

I tried the command
ip device tracking probe delay 10
on the 3650 sw. Till now there are no messages with duplicate IP addresses on clients which connected to 3650 sw.
But on on 3560 sw th command does not exist. Anybody who has a similar problem or an idea to solve the problem on the 3560 sw.
The command "sh ip device tracking all" on 3560 shows that ip device tracking is disabled.

RAID after Windows install on Z77A-GD65

I've been looking around for a long time for a clear answer, but can't seem to really find one. I got three 3TB disks that I want to run in RAID 5, but I already have Windows installed and don't want to reinstall it.
I've read a lot about doing it via BIOS and UEFI not working properly or needing a lot of work before it works correctly, but no conclusive results or guides on how to do it. I've read and tried a few of the online guides that include registry changes etc., but none of those seem to work. I really just want to get the array working. If it's really just not possible, I wonder if it's possible to do when I install a new Windows (probably W10 by then), because again, I read stories about that and it's supposed to be possible, but the descriptions are too vague.
So, is it possible to RAID 5 my disks IN UEFI after installing Windows?

Is the windows installation on one of these disks?
RAID 5 needs initialization before it is first being used so it isn't possible to keep windows if it is on one of the disks being RAIDed.
I remember there was a way to change SATA mode from IDE to AHCI or RAID on the P45, but last experience I had with transferring windows(XP) from one disk to another with ghost did not work well. It did boot but network was disabled and Microsoft assistant told me I must reinstall windows.
There was also a procedure to migrate windows between different platforms for windows XP, but you had to "repaire" installation (rather clean Install) which is almost like clean Install without reinstalling other software.
Best start fresh as suggested by Nichrome, shortcuts always result in wasting more time.

Windows 7 freezes after installing Audigy 2

I cannot install my Audigy 2 soundcard with Windows 7.
It is a clean install of windows 7 64 bit on a new HDD. However, after installation and driver file updates after I reboot, Windows 7 just freezes.
?I have tried different drivers but the same problem arises. I have tried to load? SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00 as well as SBAX_PCDRVBETA2 US_2_8_00, along with the automatic updates Windows 7. Any help to rectify this situation would be?greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response Freddie. I just do not know how people can expect companies to keep upgrading and writing software for hardware that is YEARS old. Years old.......People (not you) clamor for Windows 7 drivers for devices made for XP, and my god, that operating system came out a long long time ago. Moving on is not just an alternati've, it is a necessity. I would never be using a Gravis sound card from 995 7 or 8 (which sounded really good back then) on Windows 7 and be frustrated as to why Gravis does not have a full suite of Windows 7 drivers. It would be nice, but it is not feasible or reasonable to expect. Creative would literally spend all of their profits writing drivers and applications for stuff that is no longer sold or worth supporting. Microsoft has even changed the sound model of Windows from scratch which means drivers have to be rewritten from the ground up, not just "slightly modified".
I bought an HP scanner for Windows 98. Great scanner. Loved it. Windows Millenium came out, and that scanner never never worked. Not their fault really, the box it came in said, "Made for Windows 98, 98SE" not "just might be compatible for Windows ME, and whatever else Microsoft may invent."? Well what happened? HP wrote drivers and applications for that scanner for Windows ME and 2000, and that disc cost me $40........Seriously? Yes. Did I buy it? Yes.... I am astonished they are writing drivers for the Audigy's now. But I do hope you find a Windows 7 sound card, and if so, I am curious if you like it. I use my X-Fi Titanium for ) games and 2) movies. and 3) music. It works well, but I had to research which boards it works with.
Currently Asus is quite the competitor these days, and I see they have Windows 7 drivers out. A few months ago, those drivers wreaked havoc and a lot of people's systems.

Clean installed from 8.1 to 10240 Windows 10, BSOD after windows updates.

Hey guys, I recently done a fresh install of windows 10 pro build 10240, I have no problems installing on my hp envy 17 laptop, I have tried a lot of solutions on the net, haven't found anything at the moment, windows 10 seems fine wifi works etc, a lot of code 43 errors in device manager, as soon as I restart my laptop when installing updates from Microsoft it will halt with the spinning circle and stay on restarting... then I will get a BSOD message stating:
Driver_power_state_failure, know I know this is a hardware issue and may be related to my NVidia card, but I'm unsure. I checked the hide option to install updates on the nvidia card and still got the problem, shuts down fine but leaves me with a black screen with power light CPU operating and the backlight keyboard still functioning. Annoyed because this is my partners mums laptop. this time just installing Windows 10, Installed intel HD 4000 driver for the lols (i have an onboard intel hd graphics card) created a restore point, Restarted, Installed nvidia, first time it was all up and working (installed v3.40 in windows 8 compatibility mode then rebooted) worked.
I think what i did next was install direct x because a game said i didn't have it installed, then after that i couldn't boot windows again so therefore had to system restore which is the only way i can get back in without reinstalling windows again, Anyone please help me? i've been up for 36 hours trying to do this and ive been around computers/repairing them for 17 years!

There should be something listed in the USB section for the monitor touch functionality. My only suggestion would be to uninstall the drivers for the monitor (again), remove the USB cable, and restart the system. See if it picks up the monitor and tries to install the drivers, then connect the USB cable and see if it tried to install the touch functionality.

How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

Hello!
Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.

If you want the shuffle to be always visible in Windows (outside of iTunes), you need to Enable disk use.
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, select the Summary tab. You should see a checkbox that says Enable disk use. Check it and click Apply.
NOTE: If disk use is enabled, you have to Eject the shuffle in iTunes, BEFORE you physically disconnect it. If disk use is NOT enabled, you can disconnect the shuffle at any time, as long as iTunes is not doing something with it at that moment (such as syncing); the shuffle's light will then be blinking (to indicate DO NOT DISCONNECT).
So, unless you want to use the shuffle like a USB flash drive (carry random files on it), you may want to NOT Enable disk use.
