Ho do I keep tags sorted?

Does anyone know how to permanently sort tags? They keep reverting to what looks like a random sort.
Back story: I finally figured out how to get my bookmarks out of Delicious and into Firefox WITH MY TAGS so I set up Firefox to use the tags like I used them in Delicious: I add frequently access tags to my bookmark bar, as well as the full tag list in a drop down menu.
Unfortunately, the tags don't stay sorted. I go into my bookmarks and sort the tags by name but as soon as I click out of the tag they go back to their previous randomness.
Any idea on how to fix this?

  • IOS 5 sync with iTunes not keeping playlist sort

    Anyone else have the problem of iTunes playlists not keeping their sort when sync'ed to iOS 5(iPhone 4)?

    Fixed, sort of!
    I'm having the exact same issue with iTunes 10.5, iOS 5 on an iPhone 4S.  My regular (not smart) playlist was sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and in my phone it seemed to be sorted by "Date Added" oldest on top (which is silly because I want to play my new music more often than my old music...)
    Anyway, on a whim, I tried sorting my iTunes playlist by "Plays" and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Plays" on my iPhone).  Thinking I had fixed the issue, I again sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and synced, and the iPhone reverted to "Date Added" oldest on top...
    Thinking it might be just the "Date Added" column sorting that's F'd, I sorted by "Name," and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Name" on my iPhone).
    Not wanting to test each column, I decided to leave it sorted by "Plays," least on top, which is similar to "Date Added" newest on top, but not exactly.  It'll have to do until Apple fixes this issue.
    Conclusion: At least the "Date Added" column sorting in iTunes is completely disregarded on the iPhone, choose another sort column for now

  • Keep kana sorting of contacts with language set to English

    So I live in Japan and have a good number of Japanese contacts I would like to be stored and sorted in Japanese. I know if I set my language settings to Japanese, this is done very nicely, but then every single little app I have also turns to Japanese. And this can be a little...rough. Does anyone know if it is possible to keep the language settings as English, but still use the Japanese contact entry and sorting method?

    After posting this I found a solution.  I hadn't tried it this way round.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/7589528#7589528
    Go into one of your Japanese contacts and click edit.
    Go right to the bottom of the edit page and add field, add phonetic first name, then repeat the step to add phonetic last name.
    Now edit the name of your contact, keep their name in Japanese and enter the phonetic spelling in English.
    Smashin....  :-)

  • How do you keep Tags organized when upgrading to PSE 9?

    I installed PSE 9 after using PSE 7 for the last two years. Once it installed and I opened Organizer, Organizer found my existing PSE 7 Catalog and asked if I wanted to convert it. I did, but lost the organization of my Keyword Tags. All my photos retained their Tags (I write my Tags into each photo) but I lost my organizational tree. The Tags were all found, listed alphabetically and disorganized, in the "Imported Keyword Tags" Category. In other words, Tags in categories and subcategories were mixed together. I have over 50K photos and over 150 Tags. Needless to say, it was a pain re-organizing them. Unfortunately, I was unable to view Full Screen slide shows (hitting the Play button crashed Organizer) and was advised by Support to un-install and re-install PSE 9. I REALLY do not want to have to re-organize my Keyword Tags again. Is there any way to retain my catalog's organizational tree?

    Thanks for the reply. I have used every PSE except PSE 8, in the past. When I purchased my current PC, I installed PSE 7 and rebuilt my catalog by using the "Get photos from files" function. Consequently, I had to rebuild my Keyword Tags organizational tree. When I installed PSE 9 on this same PC, it "found" my PSE 7 catalog and asked if I wanted to convert it. I clicked to agree. It converted my Catalog, which did contain Albums in PSE 7, but I lost my Tag's organizational tree and no Albums were present in PSE 9. They are still present in PSE 7. As I mentioned, tech support had me un-install and re-install PSE 9, which I did after your first reply,  and indeed the Tags appeared and were organized when I re-installed PSE 9, but again, I have no albums in PSE 9.

  • Can I keep tags etc when moving to Photoshop Elements 9 from version 5?

    Have just installed Elements 9.0 on new PC wth windows 7. Have moved pictures from old PC which had Elements 5.
    Can I transfer (restore) the tags etc from old version to new one?
    What do I need to do?
    I have not yet connected pictures to Elements 9 - they are just in My pictures file/folder.

    Hi Bill
    There was a major change in the user interface and program coding between PSE5 and PSE6.
    Make sure you have the 0.2 update for PSE5 before doing the update.
    The backup/restore may work but catalog upgrade/conversion may be better when you load the new software.

  • Keeping tags while upgrading to elements 10 and Windows 7

    This is a multiple upgrade.  My old 8 year old desktop computer is running XP and Elements 9.  I need to transfer my pictures to my new notebook computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 and at the same time I decided to upgrade to Elements 10.
    I transferred all the photos which worked fine, however, all the tags, etc. were not linked to the pictures (There are a couple of thousand pictures and would hate to take weeks to retag them.  Aren't computers supposed to make our lives easier?
    In any case, if anyone can help with this I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!

      All you tags are stored in the database; so moving the pics won’t work It’s best to start over using backup and restore. If you have an external hard drive that will make things easier.
    So Open PSE9 and make full backup then restore to your new machine.
    This link refers to PSE6 but the principles are the same.

  • Is it possible to sort tags?

    I've tried various methods of sorting tags. None of them really represents the conventional output one would consider "sorting". I've had to, for example, prefix categories of tags in order to get some semblance of order. Lately not even this works very well after going through various updates to Firefox.
    Further, there doesn't seem to be anything on the Mozilla website for Firefox that addresses this question. Perhaps my library of Bookmarks is more extensive than most, and those who program the interface have never seen a need to provide this capability to sort tags. In my case, since I've used tags to introduce order and fast access to information, tags have become indispensable to that end.
    Maybe the reason this capability is missing is because it is not technically feasible. I would like to know whether or not it is so I don't continue to search for a solution.

    Hi jscher2000,
    The reason I haven’t tried your method is that I have no idea where you enter the “query”. You did not explain that:
    • type=6 means tag query
    • sort=14 means descending order by last modified date
    • maxResults=10 means only show the first 10 results
    So where am I supposed to put the above? I did view the SQLite Manager extension description. I’m quite busy now and don’t have the time to get involved with another interface to sort Tags within Firefox. I’m also reticent to start adding Extensions to overcome Firefox inadequacies.
    There are some Add-ons which are quite helpful, like the “Go Parent Folder” and “Show Parent Folder”. I use these extensively to keep my Bookmarks in order and to find particular ones that would be very difficult to find otherwise in order to redefine the links associated with Tags. But these routines are simple downloads that don’t require anything beyond simply downloading the Add-on.
    The technique I described requires no Extension to be added, and appears to be less of a drag on my schedule than going through the learning curve of using SQLite. I did notice that the description of the SQLite extension has gone through various revisions, so I’m not sure how that might have impacted previous Tag sorting per the lines of code you provided above. When I began using LISP (actually AutoLISP) there was a great deal of payback for the effort put forth to get the desired results. There were also additions, deletions and redefined ways of doing things which meant past efforts had to be revised or were no longer workable. And with time these AutoLISP shortcuts (macros) actually became part of the main program.
    This takes me back to my original comment about why the Firefox interface did not provide this sorting capability in the first place. If SQLite can do this effectively and easily, then why isn’t the sorting capability included with the Firefox browser download?
    Your description of the process appears to be somewhat involved, more so than my technique of ordering Tags by modifying them through the Properties window to obtain the desired Sort, which is cumbersome but effective. This could be referred to as the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple Stupid), the last part of which I freely admit.
    Thanks, though, for providing an alternative way to sort Tags.

  • RE: Is it possible to sort tags?

    This is a continuation of the Support Forum question titled: “Is it possible to sort tags?” located at:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963133?esab=a&as=s&r=2&page=1
    If this new topic has to be posed as a new question the following applies.
    If you visit the above link you will learn how convoluted were the solutions provided to non-programmers.
    I CERTAINLY EXPECTED THAT BY NOW there would have been an effort to address the Tag sorting issue, since there have been a number of upgrades since this question was first posted. Tag sorting provides a much more robust browser many more would choose to use. It would also attract more users concerned about the control on our liberties if supplied with a browser that truly has more powerful capabilities to garner and access information.
    One of the points the Firefox Team uses to attract more to use it is the protection it gives from snoops. You’ve got to ask yourself how much protection that might be if developers can’t do something simple (for talented programmers) like provide tag sorting. That comment is from, basically, a non-programmer, so I have no idea how much code would have to be written to bring this about. I suspect they don’t either and possibly fear the effort might turn out to be much greater than it really is.
    It’s been a LONG time since I used Internet Explorer by Microsoft. What brought me to Firefox was their mission statement to provide access free of its own brand of commercialism and free usage of the Internet, which also implied an effort to protect privacy. For the same reasoning I would not use Google, after reports of their cooperation with government heads in China. Reports have also surfaced that Microsoft has provided a back-door to the NSA for their Internet Search engine, all of this in total disregard to the US Constitution’s 4th Amendment requiring a warrant from a court to prevent unreasonable searches and seizures. I would, however, wish that Firefox would OPENLY adhere to the Bill of Rights in their Privacy Policy, which is not stated in so many words. Many would say, “I don’t have anything to hide, so I don’t care.” Apparently they are unaware how dirty politics and politicians can be. This is the reason why a viable alternative, such as Firefox, is so important.

    This is just one of the links that would be a lot easier to access, were it possible to sort Tags.
    Is this off-topic? Not really.

    HI MozillaFirefoxNewbie,
    Thank you for your question, even though this is not off topic, the points made would have a better audience in a feature proposal in Bugzilla. Please check out the features and description here:
    [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Firefox&component=Bookmarks%20%26%20History]
    As mentioned in the previously posted thread, there was a work around provided by [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963133#answer-462676 jscher] that sounded functional.
    However if there is no extension desired, I encourage to proved the steps and objective of the feature.
    If you open up the Bookmark Library however and click the drop down of 'Tags', they are in alphabetical order.
    Have you tried this built into Firefox?
    Cheers

  • Keep sorting and sort arrows after datagrid dbprovider changed

    the datagrid uses XML as dataprovider and uses labelFunction and sortCompareFunction on each column, not sure if it matters

  • Bridge does not keep the manual sort order

    I've tried everything I know but I cannot get Bridge to keep the manual sort order (iMac, 10.6, CS4). What is the file responsible for keeping the sort order? Perhaps removing it would help. This is really frustrating. It would be so important to keep related pictures together for estimating all the aspects.

    This is action script 3.0 Flash CS3
    Below is what I receive back after I test it but it is not in
    order. I guess I assumed that if the tab order is correct and the
    are layout in that order and the code in the form is in order it
    would come back the same way. Mostly I am trying to narrow down the
    problem and my guess is the cgi script or am I wrong? I have
    attached the code for the form.

  • Keeping a Vector sorted as it is added to

    Hi,
    I have a class which extends Vector, and the elements of this Vector are long[]'s. For example
    Vector v = new Vector();
    long[] a = new long[] {10, 0, 0};
    long[] b = new long[] {3, 0, 0};
    long[] c = new long[] {7, 0, 0};
    v.add(a);
    v.add(b);
    v.add(c);As I add elemetns to my custom vector I would like to keep them sorted by the 1st element in the long[] ...(in this case, 10, 7 and 3). Is vector the right type of data structure to use for this? Basically, I am trying to keep them in some order, so that i can have a fast search on them when the index is unknown. Any suggestions??
    thanks

    First, don't use Vector.
    Declare your variables to be of type List, and then instantiate ArrayList (the direct replacement for Vector) or LinkedList, or whatever other custom List implementation suits your need.
    To maintain sort oder as objects are added, you can us a SortedSet (I think TreeSet is the implementation provided with the core APIs, but check the docs). However, this will be a Set, so if you need to add the same element more than once, you won't be able to use this.
    If you need it sorted and need to be able to have the "same" element (by equals()) multiple times, then either roll your own List implementation, or sacrifice maintaining order as elements are added and just explicitly call Collections.sort() when you need to sort it.
