Ho to activate/use webcam/camer on HP 1000 with OS Ubuntu 13.10

I am new on OS Ubuntu. Just got my HP 1000 (gift) and I am unable to use most of its built software like bluetooth and camera.
But my main prob is the camera. pls help
Im no good with technical stuff

Odds are Ubuntu has loaded drivers for the webcam and the Bluetooth you just need software to make them work.
For the webcam use Cheese, which is like youcam; a very simple webcam interface. At the command prompt (ctrl-alt-t) type:
sudo apt-get install cheese
For the bluetooth, do you have an icon in the toolbar with a bluetooth symbol?
If you are not technically minded, pardon the advice, but you really should not be trying to use Linux.

  • Can I activate my webcam on my stolen macbook with icloud?

My macbook pro has been stolen. I havent installed any software that enables me to remotely access my webcam.
Is there anything i can do? I have been tracking it on "find my iphone".

In the circumstance you describe, I think you are limited to the actions allowed by "find my iphone".

  • Using digital camera as webcam

Well, it'd be nice to use my digital camera as a webcam under linux(I can do it under windows). The camera is a Nova DC-2L (finding info for it is a bitch). Well I'm wondering on how to get it working as a webcam under linux..
Under windows all I gotta do is set the cam to webcam mode on the camera then plug it in, and it's good to go from there..
Well I dunno what driver the camera uses as a webcam so I guessed qc-usb as it seemed to be the only one listed on the wiki page

First of all, use udev. devfs is mostly useless if you want to use USB.
in udev rules, you need something like:
    #camera
    KERNEL="sda*" SYMLINK="camera%n"
    KERNEL="video[0-9]" SYMLINK ="video%n"
I dont like a zillion groups, so I change my permissions,
    sd*:root:users:660
    #camera devices
    camera*:root:users:0600
    usb/dc2xx*:root:users:0600
    usb/mdc800*:root:uesrs:0600
The problem with devfs prevented me from using my camera as a webcam and mounted storage device without restarting devfs and fiddling with the mounting of usbfs or whatever it was called.
    cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
should tell you what is being seen on the bus.

  • Can I use the camera on my iPod Touch with FaceTime?

I have been trying to use the camera on my iPod Touch with FaceTime.  Will it work?  How do I sign in?  When I click on Preferences the preferences window does not appear, and preferences in the drop down menu becomes greyed out.  I am using an older Apple Cinema Display.  Also Apple doesn't show the iSight camera for sale on the website.

    Hello Chris
Pairing an iPod touch to the computer to use the camera is not supported, but you can use any webcam that can be plugged into the computer.

  • Windows 8.1 64bit. Webcam works with "Camera" app but not with Skype.

I've spent a few hours googling and trying out various things - all listed below. I give up - any ideas??? OS: Windows 8.1 64bitMemory: 32GBWebCam: Microsoft VX-7000. As per subject - the webcam works with the "Camera" app but not with Skype for desktop or for Modern UI (or the Microsoft Lifecam software for that matter).  Already attempted: 1) Uninstall webcam drivers - download latest from microsoft (Windows 7) and install in Windows 7 compatibility mode.2) Close (from taskmgr) anything that looks like it might use Webcam. 3) Run Skype for Desktop in Windows 7 and 8 compatibility modes None of the above work. In Skype for Modern UI the webcam doesn't appear in the drop down in Settings - so I can't even select it. In Skype for desktops (version 6.11.32.102) the webcam is found but instead of image I get "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam". I see from a bit of googling that various people seem to have the same issue (i.e. Webcam works with Camera app but not Skype) - so I'm hopeful someone has found a workaround / fix to this issue and I've just not had the googling skills to find it  Thanks, - Matt Symes

OK - I appear to have resolved the issue.  I restricted my google terms to [vx-7000 site:microsoft.com "windows 8.1"] Which uncovered this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933311 I noticed there were a couple of Windows 7 x64 specific registry settings that were mentioned so I checked these and they weren't as per the article. In fact - one of the Registry Keys was already used by other software "AI Charger+" which is some ValueAdd software that came with my motherboard. I uninstalled AI Charger+, uninstalled LifeCam driver. Reinstalled LifeCam driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Still not working. I returned to the registry and noticed the settings still differed from the above article. I corrected them (which involved not just amending Data but having to add new Values). I then disabled and reenabled the LifeCam from dvcmgmt.msc I was then able to get video from the webcam in the Skype for Desktop preview screen.

  • Camera app not working with logitech webcam with new windows 8.1 update

My Logitech camera app was working fine before win 8.1 update.
    ALL drivers are updated.
Camera works fine when I run Logitech program/software, just won't work with camera app included win windows 8.
I just get a dark screen.
I searched forums.  This appears to be a common problem.  Microsoft Techs just state uninstall camera app and reinstall.  But, this is an app that won't let me reinstall.  Plus, I search Microsoft Store and can't find the camera app.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks

I'm having more or less the same issue, but it extends beyond just the app. I'm replying here because this is the topic I was referred to by one of your support members on twitter and I'm trying to help keep things organized so that hopefully one day Microsoft
    can solve the issue.
I have the Logitech Webcam HD C 525 which worked perfectly fine on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. I recently built myself a computer and purchased Windows 8.1 complete (I heard that you could chose the OS language and as I'm living overseas I was really
happy to finally be able to use Windows in English).
I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit and got around to installing skype on Christmas eve so I could video chat with my family back home. However, I ran into an annoying issue when trying to use the webcam. I installed the latest drivers and applications clean and straight
directly from Logitech, plugged in the webcam and it was not detected.
Following the troubleshooting info from Logitech, I then switched my camera from a USB 3.0 port to a 2.0 one, this shouldn't matter, but I tried it anyway. It changed nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times with no change.
After a bit of reaching out on twitter I had a friend suggest using ONLY the Microsoft drivers for my device. I COMPLETELY removed and deleted the device and drivers from my machine and then installed them using the info found here in the troubleshooting section:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/camera-app-faq.
I plugged my camera back into the 2.0 port and my camera flicked on for 2 seconds (preview included) then shut off again and told me it wasn't detectable. I opened Skype and it seemed ok. When it came time to actually Skype with my family skype could no longer
detect my webcam. It flicked on and off briefly and told me it wasn't detectable.
The current state of my webcam is that it is buggy and unreliable. Opening skype or the logitech app or ANY app that uses my camera yields the same result: an endless loop of my camera flickering on and off, and messages of "not detected" between
images from my camera. The camera still works on my old computer normally, thus it is not an issue with the camera itself.
I have read many people having my same issue with various webcams (not just Logitech because I briefly considered buying a Microsoft one) and the one thing in common was it was all on Windows 8.1
As posted in a few posts above I downloaded and ran Process Monitor while I opened skype and my camera sat through the endless detect/non-detected issue it has currently. I hope I have the log information saved correctly (if not I can re-do it, it is not difficult
to reproduce as it happens all the time). I could not figure out how to copy/pase the information in the log file, so here is a link to my log file:

  • How to use integrated camera? T61

I have an integrated camera, and I tried following the instructions lenovo suggests (opening the scanner/camera folder in the control panel) but no camera comes up! Also, I can't make movies either. I have windows vista so everything is different from the instructions lenovo gave me. Help!

To first test the camera, you can use something like Windows Live Messenger.  If you enter the tools menu, you can use the "adjust webcam settings" option to test the camera.  The green light next to the lens comes on to tell you its active and it shows you the picture being captured.
After that, you just open the app you want to use and its the application's responsibility to use the camera feed.  Windows doesn't provide movie capture software by default if I recall correctly.

  • Using integrated camera with Windows Live Messenger

    Hello everyone
I've just got a MacBook Pro and wondered if anyone could tell me how to use the camera facility with MSN please?
    Many thanks.

... work with any version of windows live messenger?
MSN Messenger for Mac does not support video except via Office Communications Server 2007 (usually paid for by commercial enterprises rather than individual users). However, it is possible to video with your friends who use the PC version of the MSN Messenger family of apps. Here are a couple of ways you can try:
    (1) As suggested by Defcom, take a look at   aMSN   and   Mercury
Either can do webcam video with your built-in iSight.
They work a bit differently, so use whichever you find easiest or most reliable on your MBA.
    (2) As an alternative, because your iNtel Mac can use Boot Camp, VMware Fusion™, or Parallels™ to run Windows® software, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software to your iNtel Mac (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows® Messenger application that your contacts are using to video chat with them.
The Windows drivers for your built-in iSight and your other Mac hardware are on the disk with Boot Camp so, after you have installed Windows, you can install the iSight driver and use your built-in iSight if you like. If you need more help on this, search or post in Boot Camp discussions category
    (3) If your friends are willing to try something "new and improved" (does NOT work with Messenger):
you can both install and try a different video chat app such as Google Talk or Skype.

  • Why won't skype activate the web cam on my kindle ...

Why won't skype activate the web cam on my kindle fire hd?

The question has been answered but not that you like to hear.
You have been using an iPhone since 2011 with an iCloud ID that is not yours, how do you explain that?
I saw a message that said your phone was lost and erased, and I was asked to activate my iPhone with my Apple ID.
Since you know it was lost but not by you, you have an iPhone that is not legitimate. Your receipt may get you out of trouble with the police but that doesn't make the iPhone yours.
Activation Lock cannot be bypassed and  if the your story is true then you should sort it out with Best.
