Hobbyist i7 build, comments please

This is my first post on this forum and I apologise for its length but felt I should explain my choices.
I found this forum and dvinfo.net in my research to build a new PC. This forum in particular has been of immense help. The expert knowledge, experience and opinions so generously given will, I hope, have saved me from making expensive and frustrating mistakes.
I have read and re-read a number of the threads here and finally (I think) have put together my shopping list. I would very much appreciate if interested members could take a look and point out/suggest any flaws/alternatives before I place my orders.
I'm an enthusiastic hobbyist and will use my new PC for photo-, audio-, SD video editing, DVD creation (family movies), family web site build and general PC stuff - so will not be video editing/encoding all the time. It will replace my present PC (an AMD 3500+, 3GB RAM, XP Pro that I built 5 yrs. ago) which is really struggling now. Photoshop & Premiere Elements 8 and Vegas MediaStudio 9 have proved it's no longer up to the job - 5 yrs. ago it was brill. Despite all the time and money invested, I'm sure that  in 5 yrs. time my new build will be no different.
So having set the scene this is what I've come up with:-
I don't want or feel that I need a RAID setup as I image backup my desktop data every day to my NAS and image backup my C drive weekly. I'm fully aware of the advantages of the appropriate RAID config but I've always been concerned about what happens when one of your matched drives dies and you can no longer get that model. I'm not seeking to build a dedicated editing machine to use for commercial purposes.
I've never overclocked but with the kit I plan to get I intend to have a careful go using posts on here, particularly Harm's as a starter.
I have chosen three different makes of HDD to spread my risk and carry out my own small reliability evaluation.
The OS of my new system will be Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
My shopping list is:
CPU                    Intel i7-920 - OEM version because I won't be using the stock cooler.
MOBO                Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 - because it has sufficient SATA, eSATA and Firewire ports.
RAM                   6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), CAS 8 (8-8-8-24), XMP (TR3X6G1600C8) - I'd like 12GB but I'm already over my original budget. If I decide to stretch to 12 (well it is nearly Christmas) how much of a risk I am   taking with them not actually being a guaranteed matched set (a 12GB matched set is considerably dearer - price has gone up £40 since yesterday)?  From experience I know it is best to get all the RAM you think you want in the first instance because trying to find matching RAM later is a pain and can be impossible. I can't see this RAM in the mobo's QVL so I'm hoping it'll be OK.
RAM Cooler         I don't know if this is reqd. for 6/12 GB? For this amount aren't the heat spreaders on the RAM sufficient?
PSU                     Corsair 750HX PSU - as advised by Harm, I've run my build through eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Pro 2.5 to find the power needs of this lot plus possible additions. The 750 still has amps for un-anticipated add ons.
CPU Cooler          Noctua NH-U12P SE 1366 - seems it will do a nice job and the price is bearable - a bit concerned about case fit though.
Thermal Paste     Artic Silver 5 - seems to be a favoured compound.
Northbridge Fan  AKASA AK-VCX-01 40x40x10mm - not sure how I'm going to attach this to my mobo yet.
GPU                     ATI HD5770 - I was going to get a 4890 but this looks a more suitable card re future.
OS & Apps HDD   500 GB Western Digital WD5001AALS Caviar Black - this should be fast enough and has lots of space
PF/Cache HDD    500 GB Western Digital WD5001AALS Caviar Black - as above.
Genl Data HDD    500GB Samsung HD502HJ Spinpoint F3 - for anything that isn't video, photo or audio.
Proj Files HDD     1TB Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12 - should be big enough and fast enough. Archive on NAS.
Media HDD          1TB Seagate ST31000528AS Barracuda 7200.12 - as above.
DVD-RW              Samsung SH-S223B/RSMN (Retail) - I chose this over a Sony Optiarc (OEM).
2 SATA Caddies   Antec Easy SATA - to house my Project and Media HDDs so that when I'm not media editing I can unplug them to stop them wastefully spinning away creating heat, wearing out and using power.
Case                    Coolermaster Storm Sniper All Black Mesh Edition (SGC-6000-KXN1-GP) - it was hell of a job finding the right case. This isn't perfect but ticks most of my boxes. It's an improvement on the original Sniper, is spacious, should have good airflow and has the external front ports I want (USB, eSATA & Firewire) (and a handy button to switch off the bling LEDs). The new Zalman MS1000-HS1 was a contender with its front hot-swap bays but it's so new there are no useful reviews on it and its predecessor has poor airflow reviews. The Antec P183 is very nice but with my caddies the door would be a nuisance and it doesn't have the Firewire port. Ditto the Firewire port missing from the Antec 900-2. Had it been the eSATA missing from the either I could have lived with it because the caddies have eSATA ports.
Just to complete the picture, because my desktop capacity is to be increased I will add another drive as follows to one of my NAS devices to increase the archive/backup space.
NAS HDD             ST3200542AS - 2TB Seagate ST32000542AS Barracuda LP
I'll be using my existing mouse, keyboard and recently purchased monitor (Dell 2209WA 22").
Sorry this has been so long but I thought it would answer some questions that might have be asked - on the other hand it could be so long people forget what the question was.
Thanks (if you stayed with me)
Tony

Thanks to you both for having the tenacity and time to give me feedback. Your suggestions were very useful as they caused me to revisit my planned workflow. My response is, I'm sorry, a little long winded but I want to show I've given your suggestions full consideration.
Harm,
Thanks for the praise but I only followed the advice you and a few other stalwarts of this forum have already given to many others.
Thanks also for the comments re the compound and Northbridge cooler - that released a tenner to my 12GB RAM fund.
When I looked back at the many notes I'd taken from the many posts I've read I found the Nthbridge cooler had come from the first post in reply to a question on Tom's Hardware Forum (www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-260467_12_0.html) and was about another mobo. I've read that much about overheating that it has me quite concerned to cool it so I included it. If you've never had a problem that's good enough for me so I've dropped it.
I noticed your suggestion elsewhere about the Supermicro cage but didn't follow up then. I've had a look now and that bit of kit looks very good and I almost opted for it instead of the caddies. However, I've thought about the practicalities and have decided to stick with the caddies because:-
(a) if I could foresee at some point my needing 4 or 5 hot-swap drives for concurrent projects then I would definitely have gone for the Supermicro cage - but I can't. I'm only going to be concentrating on one project at a time so I can archive the previous one, clear the drives and when the next one comes along start afresh. My projects run serially, not in parallel.
(b) the case has a front eSATA port that I'll connect to one of the two eSATA connectors on the mobo - thus one of the eSATA ports on the mobo bracket will not have a supply (not a problem because I can't see a need for me to have two eSATA devices permanently plugged in to the back of the machine). This config will give me an eSATA port back and front providing the flexibility of a permant rear connection and temporary front connection should I need to 'do a quickie' in parallel. The caddies also provide eSATA ports giving me two more hot-swaps should the need arise.
Jim,
Re general PC stuff: my plan was to replace my old PC with a new one and apply an updated worklflow config. I'd already considered keeping my current PC but I don't have the room space. However, your central point (which I know from posts is shared by Harm and others) of keeping the AV editing PC lean and clean is well made and on reflection I am able to do.
In my 'command module' where I have my boys toys I spin my chair to the right for my desktop and to the left for my iMac. I currently have WinXP Pro running in Boot Camp on my iMac, accessed through Parallels Dektop. In due course I'll be replacing XP with Win7. That is where I will concentrate all my non-AV activities, leaving my new build exclusively committed to AV.
No longer needing an HDD for general data is going to release another £38 for the RAM fund. More funds (£32) can also be released for the fund because there is no need for the caddies - the machine will only be on when AV work is being done. Nice one! I owe you both a drink.
Re northbridge: it's a 920 on an X58 (Bloomfield) mobo I'm getting, Jim, not an 860/870 on a P55 (Lynnfield).
Re DVD-RW: My iMac I has a Optiarc AD-5630A which is why I thought I'd have a different make in my new build. Thus giving me flexibility/options.
Re: KVM switch: Yes I'm familiar with these but your earlier suggestion lead to this being unneccesary.
I'd appreciate either of you, or anyone else, commenting on the risk/merits of buying:-
2 x 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), CAS 8 kits, or
1 x 12GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 12800 (1600) CAS kit.
At the moment the 2 x 6GB is £254 and 1 x 12GB is £304 from the same supplier. So it's a £50 premium for the matched set. It must be the safest buy but is removing the risk worth the extra £50?
Many thanks again,
Tony

  • Build evaluation, please

    Comments, please, on this proposed build, for editing AVCHD and AVC Intra (100mbs-150mbs).  Note that some choices reflect what's available at the builder's (e.g., the brands of 570 GPUs, Kingston RAM).  The system will be used for PP6, possibly AMC 6 and Resolve Lite.
    - Antec Performance One 280 case (because it's supposed to have sound insultation, for quieter performance?)
    - Coolmaster Silent Pro 1000w
    - Asus P9X79 Pro
    - Intel 3930K
    - 16MB Kingston Hyper X KHX1600C9D3K8/32GX Quad Channel RAM Kit (this RAM is 1.65v and the part number is not specifically approved by Asus, but 5-star reviews on Newegg, with the Asus Mobo)
    -  Intel BXRTS2011LC High Performance Liquid Cooler
    -  either MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr III PE/OC GTX 570 OR  PNY GeForce GTX 570 1.25 GB (the MSI runs cooler?)
    -  1 Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1 TB  (system drive)
    -  2 or 3 Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2.0 TB
    -  Acer V243HAJbd 24" LCD Monitor OR  Asus VE248H 24" LED LCD
    -  Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    I'm pretty sure it's not terrible, but any comments?  Thanks.

    >MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr III
    If that is a dual GPU card, it is a waste of money FOR PREMIERE PRO
    PPro will only use one GPU for hardware MPE
    You really don't need a 1T drive for your system... Win7 and all your software is only going to use something less than 100 Gig... as long as you have your Win page/swap file on a different drive
    My 3 hard drives to edit AVCHD are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
    2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
    When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
    so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files
    3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
    (*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files
    Search Microsoft to find out how to redirect your Windows paging swap file

  • I downloaded the iOS7 and I can't force quit the open apps. I was told, "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it." Comments please & thank you

    I downloaded the iOS7 and I can't force quit the open apps. I was told, "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it." Unfortunately, that didn't work. Any comments please & thank you

    Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Prior to loading 1OS7 it was easy to force quit applications that were still open by double clicking and seeing an a red "x" you had to click on.
    It doesn't work that way with the new operating system and the instructions that were given "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it."
    Do not work.
    I am looking for anyone who can help figure this out.

  • An update is required to use Folio Builder.  Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools.

    Hello,
    I'm using CS 5.5, Mac OS 10.8.4. I've spent the last two nights trying to figure this out but I am really stuck this time... I think the issue I'm having is similar to IDEAMAN1 but I got lost on his advice after trying some stuff out, so help would be greatly appreciated!! (I'm only medium-level tech savvy...)
    Trying to create my first epublication. Downloaded FolioPanel v26 and installed it, then FolioProducerTools v27 and installed it. Realised I had stuffed it up so uninstalled both using the uninstaller. Re-downloaded FolioProducerTools v27, FoiioPanel v27 and installed in that order and popup said the updates were ready to go. Opened InDesign and folio builder panel said "An update is required to use Folio Builder.  Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools.". The link brought me to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=172&platform=Macintosh which is where I downloaded the original files anyway.
    So I've tried uninstalling, restarting the computer, trashed preferences, closed CS5.5ServiceManager, reinstalling heaps of times and not sure what I should try next. Please help!! Thanks!!!!

    That notification is often a bug.
    I get it regularly when I launch InDesing while connected to my Thunderbolt Display.
    If I disconnect my Macbook from the Display, relaunch InDesign it works fine - reconnecting to Thunderbolt display after this also still allows the Folio Producer tools to load properly.

    Adobe Premiere, After Effects, the Whole CS6 package amoung others.
    I want the best bang for the buck
    Currently I have a tower case, and a corsair 650 powersupply.
    This is what I was considering to build.

    I7 3770 or 3770K (3770K is $229, 3770 $260)  Not sure which is best is it worth $30
    more for 3770 over 3770K
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO12 evo  $30
    Motherboard
    Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH LGA 1155  $185

    Or 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB
    They both cost the same ($90) I get double storage from
    Seagate of course
    Seems like Western Digital Black may be more reliable
    My plan would be to put whichever of these drives I get into
    a Raid 0 Array.
    Not sure what would be best purpose for  the Raid 0 would be I have seen
    a few different ideas as to the best use for Raid 0
    That can be debated later
    Western Digital 750GB 3.5" SATA 7,200RPM $48
    Just for storage of Other files etc etc or whatever the best use may be for it.
    If it can be used with Adobe apps as well great.
    LG 14X Blu Ray Burner $60
    perhaps a couple corsair case fans if needed $30 for 2
    May not need them. I know my case already has at least one fan.
    Total for all of this is about $1310
    Comments, Suggestions please???
    If I cut the costs some I may put that towards another monitor,  or perhaps
    An editing keyboard specific to adobe.  I also don't want to sacrafice much performance either.

    There is something mysterious in people's behaviour. If they bought something and they never experienced any problem with it, they tend to stay with that brand, but if they encountered difficulties and especially if that happened more than once, they tend to steer away from that brand. If you buy a certain brand of car and it is at the dealer for repairs more often than you like, your next car will probably be another brand.
    I have had my share of problems with Seagate disks (7200.11 series that were notoriously bad and had a failure rate of more than 100% after several were replaced under warranty), so my natural tendency was to steer away from Seagate and look for other options. However, when I considered the price of their 7200.14 series, I was tempted again, but at the same time turned off by their meager 1 year warranty and the reviews on for instance NewEgg. Those reviews are generally rather meaningless, because you never know how people have handled and installed their stuff, but nevertheless it was a mark on the wall for me. In my specific case I needed 25 identical disks to start with and based on price, warranty and reputation I selected Seagate Constellation ES (the Enterprise editions) drives, which up to now have performed flawlessly for 6 months. I have to admit I have never used WD drives at all apart from the Velociraptor which is still going strong in my old system, but they seem to have a good reputation, have a nice warranty period and are somewhat reasonable priced.
    I have no idea how much space you need, what future plans you have (do you need to get a parity raid in the future) and stuff like that, but WD Caviar Blacks have a solid reputation for single disk use or in striped arrays. OTOH in parity arrays they are lousy, so if you may consider a parity array on a dedicated controller, the Blacks are out.
    For setting up your disks, have a look at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972

  • Build Review Please

    I am a first time builder and have been studying this forum (great contributors here) for guidance on building a CS5 Premiere compatible system.  The components (my proposed system below)  are familiar as much has been gleaned from proposed systems from others.
    I initially ran eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Pro v 2.5 using a 750W power supply but was right up against the limit.  I wanted to leave a bit of room for an additional hard drive or two in the future as well as another 12Gb of memory so it put me up to an 850W PSU.
    In addition to the advice given on this board I read “Building the Perfect PC” (O’Reilly) 2011 edition and their editing system build is similar to suggested builds on this board.  It seems like a good resource – especially for a first timer like me.
    A couple questions – it looks like the i7 comes with a heat sink and fan, yet builders are including aftermarket CPU fans in their builds – are the included fans inadequate/noisy/problematic?  Also, I see several competing brands for the video card, is MSI a better build than others?
    Please look over the list below and advise if you see any incompatibilities (like does the PSU fit in the case).
    COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Computer Case With Side Panel Window
    CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W Power Supply

    Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
    Noctua NF-P12-1300 CPU Cooler and Case Fan
    (3) CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
    MSI GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) N470GTX Twin Frozr II Video Card

    (3) SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    SAMSUNG Black Blu-ray Drive SATA Model SH-B123L LightScribe Support
    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders
    Comments are appreciated, Thanks!

    Almost finished - need some help!
    I bought the components, put it all together and it works.  I ran it through a burn in using BurnIn Test and all seemed well.  I did clean installations of all my application software (all programs run perfectly).  I then began to transfer the data from my old PC using a USB External hard drive.  I was able to transfer part of my data.
    I am able to connect the USB External hard drive to my old Vista PC - it sees the drive and all contents.  I can add to it , delete, whathever (full functionality).
    The problem is when I plug the USB External hard drive into the USB port on the the Win 7 Pro build, Win 7 does not see it (initially, I it did and I was able to transfer files).  At first, when I plugged in the USB Ext HD, autoplay detected it, it opened in windows Explorer and I was able to drag and drop files to my new system.
    Now when I plug in the USB Ext HD, I see the indicator light go on that it is being accessed but autoplay does not start.  If I wait a 10 minutes or so, then start windows Explorer, the drive letter appears but when I click on it, windows Explorer stops responding.  the only way out is to disconnect the USB Ext HD - this frees windows explorer and I get a message that the drive (now no longer connected) needs to be formatted (when I check it on my Vista system, it reads fine, all files intact).
    I experimented with a 1Gb USB thumb drive, same thing happened - not visible, hangs windows explorer.
    I tried to unistalling the "mass storage device" USB drive (successfully) then reconnecting the USB Ext HD.  Win 7 re-installed the driver and indicated the device was ready for use.  However, when trying to access it, I have the problem described above.
    So it seems I have some kind of USB problem - not sure if it is hardware or Windows 7 related.  It worked for a while but now it does not.  I could really use some help diagnosing my problem.
    Thanks

  • Comment: Please buck the industry trends to more obscure and less efficient interface!

    This is more a comment than a question.
    For various reasons (usually asthetics, sometimes for small screens) one trend in user interface design is to hide everything. The other is to make asthetics win over usability.
    Please don't hide everything. Make it hidden if necessary on small screens but not on the high-res screen I bought so I can show every toolbar I need to work efficiently.
    Second, if you want to put the refresh button way, way over on the right side, away from all the other most-used buttons (back, forward), then please give us the ability to move it back and make it more efficient again. Also allow us to put those most used buttons on the far left (back, forward, refresh, home), which requires less mouse accuracy to find. They don't have to be next to the URL bar.
    I'll go use the legacy plug-in to fix it, but it's sad that trying to work efficiently isn't a valuable design criteria anymore.
    Thanks for a great product. I installed a metallic flavored browser while going through the problems of heartbleed and now things crash way more--a problem I never had with just firefox.

  • Dmake is very very slow in our builds (HELP please!!!)

    We use dmake (with makedepend) in our builds and our build time for the entire system is extremely slow (it takes 17+ hours to do a clean build).
    Could anybody suggest a solution or remedy to help us reduce the long build times.
    We use solaris 2.6 with Forte 6.0 C++. Our sources are mounted on a shared filesystem/disk and they are not local to where the build happens.
    Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Your build server has 2 CPUs, so it makes sense to use
    dmake in parallel mode instead of make. I'm responsible
    enginerr for both, make and dmake, and I can say that
    they are compatible. People, who don't care about the
    build time, can use any of them. People, who cares about
    build time, should use 'dmake -m parallel -j 8' if they have
    only 2 CPUs.
    Of course each build can have some specific, but in
    general it makes sense to allow 4xN parallel jobs (where
    N is the number of CPUs). Also there is an ability to run
    this build on several build servers (see 'man dmake' for
    details about the build in distributed mode), or to run this
    build in "grid" mode, but first of all you have to make sure
    it works in parallel mode.
    So I suggest you to try the following experiment:
    1. Replace "make" with "$(MAKE)" in makefiles
    2. Run build with "time dmake -m parallel -j 8 ..."
    If you see that "user"+"sys" time is twice bigger than the
    "real" on a 2 CPU system, this is the best result this
    build can show. If "user"+"sys" is less than the "real"
    time, there is a room for imrovement.
    Please, let me know the results.
    Thanks,
    Nik

    Hi.
    You might try posting this question on another newsgroup such as

    FWIW, I am aware of many WLS customers who are doing this successfully, but you

  • Alternative to ABS with this little function - comments please

    I've been using svn as an alternative to ABS to pull down specific packages for building.  Here is what I have in my ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc.
    1) Is there a more efficient method of implementation?  Perhaps in the step where I validate the user provided package name?
    2) Any comments are welcomed.

    @Allan - Didn't know abs took tokens like that.  Pretty neat.  I see two advantages of my method:
      1) Users don't need to know which repo the package is in (core, extra, or community) since the scriptlet figures it out.
      2) Users can optionally get the files associated with trunk rather than what's in the repos.
    Thanks for the reply!

    Umm... I meant proper commenting like you do with code:
    package student;
    import wrabble.*;

         // Set the board size to 15 x 15
        public Board()
            setBoardSize(15);
         // What to do when the Reset button is pressed
        public void clearBoard()
              // Clear and reset everything
            for(int i = 0; i < tiles.length; i=i+1)
                for(int j = 0; j < tiles.length; j=j+1)
                     tiles[i][j] = null;
        public Tile getTile(int i, int j)
            return tiles[i][j];
        public boolean setTile(int i, int j, Tile tile)

    I have had the same problem as above and spent quite a few nights pulling hair out over it. Adding/removing quotes in the environment var and in the ant batch file didn't seem to work though.
    I added and echo line to spit out the antRun command and found the LOCALCLASSPATH var was stuffed.
    Rather than piss around any further I just wrote a batch file to generate an equivilant variable called JWSDP_ClassPath (for want of a better name).
    The batch file code was simply (line by line to make it easier to read):
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH="C:\Program Files\Sun\s1studio_jdk\j2sdk1.4.1_02\lib\tools.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\server\lib\catalina-ant.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\jaxp-api.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\endorsed\xsltc.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\endorsed\xercesImpl.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\endorsed\xalan.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\endorsed\sax.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\jaxp\lib\endorsed\dom.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\apache-ant\lib\optional.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\java\jwsdp-1.3\apache-ant\lib\ant.jar";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\Program Files\Sun\s1studio_jdk\j2sdk1.4.1_02\lib";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\Java\jwsdp-1.3\common\lib";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\Java\jwsdp-1.3\apache-ant\lib";
    set JWSDP_CLASSPATH=%JWSDP_CLASSPATH%"C:\Java\jwsdp-1.3\server\lib";
    I then call this before the antRun command and use JWSDP_CLASSPATH rather than LOCALCLASSPATH in the ant.bat, eg:
    call set_JWSDP_CLASSPATH
    :runAnt
    java -cp %JWSDP_CLASSPATH% "-Dant.home=%ANT_HOME%" "-Djwsdp.home=%ANT_HOME%\.." %ANT_OPTS% org.apache.tools.ant.Main %ANT_CMD_LINE_ARGS%
    This will obviously need to be customised to the install paths on the PC it is run on....
    Anyway hope this helps someone if the above more simle solutions do not.

  • Audio distortion post Build DVD - Please help!

    Hi all .. I have edited a wedding video in Premiero Pro and exported my AVI files with Normalised Audio Levels. I imported the AVI files into Encore CS2 and have created my DVD menu. I have also imported high quality mp3 and wav files to use as menu soundtracks. When I preview the DVD, everything sounds fine however when the DVD is created and I playback on my home theatre, the musical soundtracks are distorted! I have tried building a new DVD with audio dolby digital at 256kbps but audio is still distorted.
    Please help!

    Disregard my last question Ruud, I've exported audio from Premiere, Normalised to -6db in good old Cool Edit 2000 and imported in Encore .. much better results. Thanks :)

  • Muse menu editing & BC Blog - solution comments please

    New to Muse & BC.
    Created a site in muse, uploaded to MC no problem and added a news feed this shows on the site preview from BC but the news sub menu under in the know doesnt preview in muse.
    I followed in detail the muse and BC blog tutorial video, created BC main template, added {tag_pagecontent} but I now understand that I cannot re-edit the muse menu hyperlinks.
    blog name: mumsformums
    url: http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog
    So I have a site with top level nav:
    home
    in the know - news
    a new start
    lifestyle
    blog
    events
    contacts
    I have tried exporting blog page from muse and excluding it to no avail.
    Site structure is fairly simple but though I can preview the blog at:
    http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog?Preview=True
    the blog doesnt show up @ http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog.html, I just get a page not found content holder text within {tag page element}
    as I have currently excluded uploading the blog page from muse, the blog page doesnt show up in my pages.
    I have tred creating a new page and asigning it the name blog but I get an error on publish that the page name is already being used by mums for mums blog.
    I am sure this is something on the blog side or within BC
    any help would be appreciated.
    OK so I get to access the blog at:
    http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog and not
    http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog.html
    so how do I reedit the muse menu on the master and the BC Main template to point to mumsformums/blog and not blog.html?
    My solution so far: I have managed to get use a redirect to the http://mumsformums2.businesscatalyst.com/blog via URL Redirect.
    As the page loads the main menu state was not correct (inactive as opposed to active).....so I then created an new muse master from scatch and applied the relevant styles to the BC menu master, I guess if I need another dynamic master within BC I will have to create another that is a child of the main master within muse.
    Comments would be great if this is not the correct approach.

    This would need to be transparent for m'y client...

    Thanks for additional details.
    Unfortunately we cannot change site template of a live site in BC , but as a workaround Create a site from BC using the template you wish to use then publish the site from Muse to the site created from BC and transfer the contents stored from live site to trial site. Ater final transition is done , you can delete the already paid site and make live the new trial site which includes new site template.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit
