"Hold" button has stopped working

Not sure what model my iPod is but it looks like the iPod classic on the current Apple web site; it has (c) 2005 on the back.
The "hold" switch on the top has stopped working. It still slides happily from side to side, but even with "hold" in position, all other controls function as normal.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hello Philip,
Have you tried a simple reset of the iPod and then re-attempted to enforce the Hold button? To reset, press and hold the Center and Menu* buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If no luck there, you could also try a restore of the iPod via iTunes. Keep in mind that this will erase all the music and files from your iPod, so make sure they are backed up somewhere.
[Restoring iPod to factory settings|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339]
However, it sounds like a hardware issue related to the hold switch itself. Could be a loose or broken connection. You can opt to send it into a repair service if you wish. Just do a simple Google search for "iPod replacement parts" and you should receive a plethora of sites that can assist you. Just do a bit of looking around if you go this method, because there are some pretty good deals out there.
Hope this helps.

  • My iPad 2 home button has stopped working I have tried the swivel from landscape to portrait whilst holding the button, I have tried holding the off button then the home button and I was told I could create my own home button in the settings but I can't!

My iPad 2 home button has stopped working all together, I have tried the swivel from landscape to portrait whilst holding the home button, I've tried pressing the off switch then pressing the home button, the other thing I was advised to do was create a home button in the settings under the accessibility option but I don't have the option I was advised to use under there! Help! It's really frustrating having to turn the device off everytim I want to switch apps and I really can't afford to send it away to be mended! Many thanks in advance

The accessibilty setting that was mentioned is:
    * Enable AssistiveTouch
Enable AssistiveTouch which floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device:
    Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON
*Note* If you power off the device using the AssistiveTouch panel (tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, Device>Lock Screen (tap and hold to power off)), you will NOT be able to power on the device *if your Sleep/Wake (power) button is not functioning*. You will need to connect the powered off device either to a PC's USB port or an external charger to power the device back on.

  • Hello, my main button has stopped working .. how do I make it work again?

    Hello,
my main button has stopped working.. how do I make it work again?
    thank you

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • My home screen button has stopped working since updating to ios7 (iphone4)

My home screen button has stopped working since updating to ios7 (iphone4)
Originally i noticed that it was less responsive but now it does absolutely nothing.
I have cleaned the button and also tried calibrating (opening an apple app, holding the power button and then the home button)
Nothing has helped and I am forced to use assisted touch.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Craig.

No advice? I suppose I could try sacrificing an android to the apple gods.....

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

Go to Control panel, software and verify that the programs are installed. Now uninstall them. After you have done that you can reinstall them from the HP Backup and Recovery manager. You can either do it from an F10 key during the startup of your laptop or from the HP Recovery CD set that you (should) have made.
See this HP web support document for information on how to restore the software.

  • HT1430 I would like to reset the iphone but the sleep wake button has stopped working

how to reset the phone without erasing my data when the sleep wake button has stopped working.  the phone is frozen

"Why didn't iCare staff which is Apple's do something..."
They did.  They told you what you should do to get the problem resolve.  Too, "iCare" is an AASP and provides service for Apple's products, but the staff is not employed by Apple.  It's not an "Apple Store".

will apple replae my phone with no cost if my lock button has stopped working? iphone 4

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Only if the iPhone is in warranty. If not, you will probably have to pay for a refurbished iPhone (Apple doesn't repair iPhones and return them to you). See "Warranty & Service Pricing" > http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne

    here is what you do.
go to the "system preferences" on your dock.
    click "software updates".
    click "installed software"
if it shows something about a recent update about "EFI UPDATE, FIRMWARE, THUNDERBOLT" or anything like that, exit out of it.
    go to mail.
    click "mail" at the top.
    click "preferences...".
find the account you are having trouble with, once you do, make sure its highlighted, then click the "-" at the bottom of the window (this will only effect that mail account, it will not effect your ical weather or not its synced thought that email account)
hit the "+" (right next to the "-") and add your accout back!
its something with that update that effected mail, i hope this works out for you, if not reply back
