'Hold Call and Answer' fails

when a second call comes in while you are talking to someone, iPhone offers you a button marked 'Hold Call and Answer' to enable you to put the first call on hold and talk to the incoming call. Does not work. Pushing the button gets you back to the original conversation. Am I missing something?

have you tried powering the iPhone off for a minute, then powering on?
or a RESET by holding the Sleep button and home button for 8 seconds?
or if those don't fix it, try RESTORING your iPhone via iTunes iPhone restore feature.
One of these should fix it
sometimes simply powering off the iPhone (hold SLEEP button for a few secs till you see the red prompt) fixes bugs.
Sorta like restarting your computer

    This seems to be GSM (AT&T) vs CDMA (Verizon) issue, not an Apple h/w or iOS issue.

    I used to be w/ AT&T, and recently switched to Verizon for LTE+iP5, and lack of this option (end call and answer) drives me nuts. But, one learns to live with it, until someone at Verizon decided to do something about it.

    Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

  • Holding calls and ability to pick up on other phones.

    If you use shared FXO lines you can place a call on hold and pic it up from any other phone (with that shared FXO line enabled) - But I use AA and therefore cannot use shared FXO lines.  Any way that I can acheive shared hold calls without restorting to call parking?
    CISCO - please allow call routing when you use shared FXO lines please - It seems silly not to anable this!

    Hi Jon,
    You can use shared extension or call park slot phone button to pick up the call which is on hold.
    The main purpose of shared FXO line is to seize the trunk to dial out from the phone line button directly without dialing the steering digit. So that the inbound call is routed to the phone which is the member of the shared FXO line.

  • IPhone 5 Calls and Texts Failing

    I have been having this issue since upgrading to an IPhone 5.  This problem is especially frustrating as my husband and daughter use the same carrier (AT&T) and have an Iphone 5S and an Iphone 4S respectively with no problems.  My problem seems to have been exacerbated by the latest update (7.1.2) and affects me the most in or near my home or other rural areas.  I can literally sit and watch them talk away (even if they call the same person I was talking to) but I repeatedly drop to Edge or get  "Call Failed" which is what leads me to believe it is my phone.  I also have to make multiple attempts to send a text message because they often fail also.  I have done everything Apple has asked, including sending them diagnostics info (where the customer service rep claimed she didn't see any of my dropped calls).  I recently "reset the phone as new" and not from a backup,  again with no results (and now no contacts either, woo hoo!).  I have also had my SIM card replaced and reseated twice.  I turn LTE off and Data Roaming off as some forums have suggested.  AT&T has confirmed my account is set up correctly.  I finally started looking into the problem myself, or specifically, looking for the differences between my phone and the others.  The articles I found regarding the first Iphone 5's released is that they did not support the 1700 MHz cell phone frequency used by T-Mobile.  At first I figured that didn't have anything to do with me but when I read more about the people who'd tried to use the first Iphone 5 on T-Mobile their symptoms were the same: multiple call failures and switching straight to Edge (which is 2G) instead of 3G.  I looked at the coverage area maps in my area, and, surprisingly, T-Mobile's signal is stronger near my house than AT&T.  My guess is my family's phones roam to T-Mobile while mine stays with AT&T's lower 2G signal and then drops.  Of course Apple quietly stopped making the Iphone 5 that didn't support 1700 MHz/T-Mobile (Oops!).  I am having trouble posting the link here but here is one of the shorter articles about it:

But, some of you will already have your own iPhones, and could be tempted to switch to the carriers attractive price plans. In years gone by, iPhones haven’t supported the Magenta-flavored 3G/HSPA+ bandwidths, leaving iPhone wielding Tmo customers stuck on a slow EDGE network. With the iPhone 5, it’s changed. There’s a chance that your device is compatible.
    If you have an A1428 model iPhone 5, it will connect to T-Mobile’s AWS bands (1700/2100), here’s how to check if yours does:

    I would really be interested to know if those of you having trouble have the "old" Iphone5 like I do (serial numbers that end in other digits, mine ends with DTTN).  Maybe once we present Apple with irrefutable evidence and numbers they will give us the newer version of the phone.  The phone that won't support T-Mobile also won't support many international networks either for those of us that travel internationally.
    If not, I guess that's what I get for getting the device early (I usually try not to as there is always some kind of bug).  I just really needed the upgrade as my husband was going to Iraq and could IMessage me over wifi without paying an arm and a leg.
    Please let me know if anyone else is having the same problem with the same (older) Iphone 5 (check your serial number against the list above).

    It would be worth getting a new SIM, just to see if that helps any. You may want to contact your carrier and have them double-check things with your account.
    I know the SIM works on another device, but getting a new one is still worth a shot. Get one, restore your phone as new & try one more time. If still no joy, you may have a defective phone that needs to be replaced.

  • Problems with calls and Answering Machine

    I have a problem with calls on my Z3 dual and the Answering Machine after the update to L.I don't have Smart Answer enabled -gesture to answer calls- but when I answer a call too close to the time set to the Answering Machine to kick in, when the call reaches this time (say 25 seconds) the call will be interrupted for about 2 to 5  seconds where I can't hear the other party and they can't hear me, and then the call will resume.If I disasble the answering machine, this bug is gone.I have cleared data of the phone app but still this issue persists.

    I suggest that you try to repair the phone software using PC Companion..
    Before repairing your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.

  • How do I answer one call and put another on hold

    I have an iPhone 4; when I am talking and a call comes in and I attempt to answer the incoming call I invariably drop one of the calls...how do I put one call on hold while I answer the other?  Will updating the software solve the problem?

  • IPhone fails receiving calls and text messages

    Hi everyone, here is my problem.
    I have an iPhone 4 32GB. It was on iOs 5.1 (always worked perfectly) untill few days ago I have upgraded to iOs 7.1.
    The problem after the upgrade is that phone calls or sms messages fails to be received. Strange thing is I can receive at times calls from cellphones, but I don't receive calls from land line numbers. And text messages arrive all at once after hours.
    I have restored the phone in DFU mode twice, set up as new phone , tried a hard reset, network reset... nothing worked. It still fails to receive phone calls and sms messages.
    Before you ask, the "don't disturb" is disabled.
    I live in Italy and have a contract with TIM, i spoke with their cistomer service and according to them there's nothing more i can do on my end.
    Any idea?

    I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
    I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
    Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
    So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
    It was Ram for me..

    If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete  factory reset.  
    Factory Reset  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
    This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
    Turn off the phone 
    Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen 
    Display will show: 
    Reboot system Now 
    Apply sdcard:update.zip 
    Wipe Data/Factory Reset 
    Wipe Cache Partition
    Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device. 
    Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit. 
    Press Volume Up 
    Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
    If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.

    I'm in the same situation.  I was up trying to get on the Verizon page at 11:55, kept getting the ECPD error.  When finally got through, the Silver Iphone Plus 64 showed arrival of 9-19.  At every step of the process, it seemed that I was ordering a phone that would arrive on day1.  At no point did it say this was an estimate.  At no point did it say it might change.  In a big yellow box, it said "9-19".  Ordered it, then got confirmation email stating it should arrive at 9-19.   Seems like all should be good, right?  Order site said 9-19, I've got a confirmation email saying 9-19, done and done.
    Then I check the website, and suddenly it changed to 10-14?!?!?!?  I feel like this was a bait and switch.  I was able to pickup an iphone5 in a local store on launch day, and would not have locked myself into a preorder through Verizon if I had known this would happen!
    So, that leads back to the original questions.  Lets assume I walk into a Verizon store on 9-19, and there is an available iphone6 plus just sitting there, can I either get that phone as fulfillment of my pre-order.  Or, cancel my pre-order and buy that phone right then and there?

    The problem is that you are making a re-entrant call back into a cache service from the service thread or worker thread of a cache service. This is a bad thing to do as you risk deadlocking your cluster by consuming all of the threads in the service. From the stack trace it looks like you are doing a get on a cache which is calling through to a cache store which is then doing a get on another cache.
    For example, you have done a "get" on a cache, that has now consumed a worker thread (call it Thread-1), that thread is calling the cache store which is doing a get on another cache in the same cache service so will now consume another thread (call it Thread-2) so you now have two threads in use, Thread-1 will not return until Thread-2 completes. Now say you had 2 worker threads on your cache service and two "get" calls came in at the same time, Get-1 and Get-2. Both worker threads are now in use so when Get-1 calls the cache store to do a get on the other cache then it has to wait for a worker thread to become free to process the get. The same applies to Get-2, it is calling the cache store and waiting for a thread to become free. The problem is no threads will become free as they are all waiting. Hopefully that is a clear enough explanation of why you get the warning.
    Read this Constraints on Re-entrant Calls - 12c (12.1.2) This is for 12.1.2 but the same applies for any Coherence version.
