Hold on Ipod

My mini shows the hold symbol even though the hold button is off. I've moved the hold switch back and forth but it doesn't do anything. iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod either.

hi, maybe the bottem of the hold switch it broken, so it looks like it is moving but the actual switch at the bottem isnt, that happened to mine once, i have got an ipod mini to, i just took the top of it, (the white section) and i put a pin in the switch to see if it worked and it did, so i got a replaced the switch. lol. maybe thats whats wrong?

  • High noise when I hold my ipod close to the ear...

Hello, when I hold my ipod nano 2nd generation close to my ear I hear a verry high noise (not verry loud) if its turned on..
I compared this problem with other ipods of the same generation and there was no noise..
I think there maybe some defekt in my ipod but I don´t know what it could be...
Maybe you guys know something about it, thanks for your help, greetings, Matthias.

    Mike,
Great to hear that you like my blood, must find a way to commercialise it.
Hope all will good with your iPod, unfortunately, the same trouble will come again, as Apple and Microsift keep trying to upgrade the iTunes, and Windows and stealthily put in drivers that bugger up our stuffs.
Apple innovations, Mac, iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad are fantastic on first release, it is only after the Project Team hand over to the Product Development Team, that we get all ***** in the system.  But then they generate money from the product upgrades.

  • Hold on iPod Photo is stuck!!!!????

I reset my iPod but I can't do anything w/ it. The hold switch does not work. The switch is off but the lock symbol still shows up in the top left corner, and I can't do anything with the click wheel, since obviously, it is stuck or something. I've tried toggling the switch back and forth. I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem, and knows how I can fix it?
    Thank You

Silde the hold switch to the off position and try a reset (hold "Menu" and the select (center button) at the same time.) If that doesn't work, what happens when you connect it to a computer?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Is holding the iPod w/ a magnetic cellphone holder OK???

    Hi everyone,
I have a cellphone holder in my car which attaches by sticking a small metal plate to the back of my cellphone. The other end is a magnetic holder which is attached to the dashboard which makes a nice holding place for my cellphone while I'm in the car. THIS WOULD ALSO BE A NICE HOLDING PLACE FOR MY NANO. I've been searching for documents on if there is any problems with keeping the iPod next to a strong magnetic device, but haven'tfound anything. Does anyone know if the magnet might somehow ruin or corrupt the contents in my iPod????
    Please help, thanks.
    nano 2G

That shouldn't be a problem. I've had my nano sitting on speaker magnets and it appears there is nothing inside or outside the nano that is attracted to magnets. Anyway, no problems with my nano.
If you do plan to use the magnet, hopefully you'll attach the magnet to a nano case, and not to the nano itself.

  • Can I hold my iPod in the Universal Dock?

I've a Universal Dock and a 4th generation iPod with color display. The dock is connected with a JBL Creature II and via the adapter in the stopcontact.
My iPod is now fully loaded ('Charged'). Do I have to delete the iPod from the dock when it's loaded, or can I hold it in the dock? Then it's not for loading, only because it looks great. Is that bad for my battery? ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It is fine if you leave the iPod there. The iPod will stop charging once it is fully charged.
Just make sure you run the battery all the way down and recharge at least once a month to keep a good battery life.

  • HT1199 Unable to open my I-tunes music library on an old laptop which holds two Ipod music libraries. Advice given is to re-install I-Tunes. If this is done, will the newly installed I-Tunes overwrite the music library on my computer hard drive or not?

If this is done, will the newly installed I-Tunes overwrite the music library on my computer hard drive or will I still be able to access the music library via the new I-Tunes installation?

Reinstalling iTunes should leave your library alone.

  • Using the hold switch is crashing my iPod

Okay, I just got the 8gig 4th gen iPod last week.
I stuck it into the iHome and listened it for a while, ignoring the message that said the ipod cannot charge from this device.
I pulled it out, and it went all fritz on me, starting to turn on on its own (on about 10 minute intervals), and I turned it off every time it did. Sometimes my keys didn't work, so I tried everything, including holding the menu and the center button.
After failing to reset, I slid the Hold switch to HOLD and back again, and this time it worked.
It worked on restarting my iPod, but now every time I turn the Hold switch off (not when I'm putting it on hold), the iPod restarts. How can I fix this?

Okay it seems like our iPod might be frozen so try holding the center and play buttons together for about 10 seconds. That would basically restart it. If you are able to turn it on again and you still don't have your stuff then it should be on the computer so just restore and sync it.

  • Ipod only on in hold position

hi, recently i cracked the screen and after replacing it i found that at first it didnt charge, then after i got this to work the ipod only switches on when in the hold position. when i switch it off hold the ipod just switches off.
please help me with this - i have tried replacing parts to no avail.
    thank you,
    Kyle.

I don't know if this'll work, but it's worth a shot. Try putting it hold, than taking it off of hold, without TOUCHING ANY PART OF THE CLICK WHEEL. This might work. If it doesn't, click "restore" when it is plugged in to your computer.

  • Can't transfer videos to ipod / video settings don't show up in itunes

hi everyone, i have a very frustrating problem.
i am a college student and have my ipod synced with the computer in the dorm but am home for the summer so am using my parents' computer. i installed the ipod video software and ran the 3-23-06 ipod update, but was unable to transfer videos to the ipod (even though they are in the correct format - i tried the "convert selection for ipod" thing and itunes didn't because it said it was already in a correct format.
so i uninstalled itunes and quicktime, and reinstalled, hoping it would work. however the problems remain. i cannot drag videos into my ipod (even though they are successfully added to my library and are in the correct format). additionally, whenever i go to the ipod settings window, there is no video tab, i have installed all the requisite software and have the latest itunes version, and have windows service pack 2 as well, so i dont see why it doesnt work... i meet all the requirements and have installed everything necessary... does anyone have any ideas as to why this problem is occurring and what i can do to solve it? theres no point to having a video ipod if you cant send any videos to it - anyone know what might be causing the problem?
    thanks,
    scagneas

Hmmm that is weird. Have you gone into your Ipod options and made sure under video, that you DO NOT have "do not update videos" selected. If that is not the problem then try this.
Make a new playlist to hold your videos in your Ipod. Then under "videos" in your Ipod options select "Automatically update selected playlist only", and then select the playlist that you created to hold your videos and click "ok". After you do that put the videos into your library, then from your library click and drag the videos into the playlist you created to hold your Ipod. Then update your Ipod and you should have them on their.

  • IPod Restore Error 1429

After updating to iTunes 7.0.2, now unable to update songs to iPod click wheel (40GB). After repeated 5 R's, all RESTORE attempts eventually end with "iPod unable to restore due to error (1429)."
    - Battery appears to be charging and holding charge--no issues
    - Attempted RESTORE actions using USB 2.0 and Firewire cables directly connected to iMac--same results
Thanks for any suggestions or insights to remedy this problem.
    iMac G5 (1.8 GHz, 1GB RAM)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7.0.2; iPod Software Version 3.1.1

Firstly, sorry for my poor English, but I would like to share with you my experience, and hope that it may helps you.
Since the release and update of iTunes 7, I have not faced any problem, but I heard a lot of articles from this forum about the errors 1417, 1418, 1428 and 50 etc. I could not make any suggestion and find a solution about it, all I could do is to copy some threads from some successful cases mentioned on this forum.
Until yesterday, I finally received a 4th Gen 20GB iPod (around 2 years old)from a friend and asked me whether I could fix it for him, which has been left untouched as a paper-weight for almost 2 months.
I tried to turn it on, and the screen was completed blank and the device looked dead. Before doing anything I prepared the following:-
    1. A window based PC
    2. A Mac computer
    3. An USB iPod cable
    4. A Firewire iPod cable
    5. An iPod AC charger
As the iPod was previously formatted on a PC, therefore I tried to plug it with a PC via USB cable, it did not response and not able to get recognized by the PC. I ejected the iPod and connected with an AC charger, after a few minutes, I did a Reset for the iPod
    How to reset iPod
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
The iPod showed an Apple sign, it stuck there for almost a minute, the screen then showed a battery with an exclamation mark sign, and after a minute, the iPod turned off itself. I was sure that the iPod carried very low battery, and could not be charged by connecting it with any computer (both Mac and PC).
I decided to let it have a charge with an AC charger for a bit longer, after 10 minute I did the Reset again, this time a sign of folder with exclamation mark showed up after the Apple sign, and again could not get recognized by a computer.
I changed my mind, and put the iPod into disk mode
    Putting iPod into disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Instead of connecting with a PC, I plug it with my Mac using a Firewire cable, it did not response, so I switched the cable to an USB, interestingly, the iPod got recognized and a window pop up indicating that the iPod needed to do a Restore. Therefore I clicked “Restore”, after a few seconds, an Error message pop-up with Error Message 1417, the sign that I have been waiting for quite sometime.
I ejected the iPod and the screen immediately showed a folder exclamation mark (a sign indicating a corrupted or a failure iPod OS). I am forced to put the iPod into disk mode again, connected with the Mac computer and open the Disk Utility
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
It managed to complete the Restore process, and started to sync with the iTunes. However, it got stuck at the song no.238 from the total of 2000. I left it for an hour, but with no process, instead the iPod became “Hot” and the iTunes showed an Error message of 1428. I ejected the iPod from my Mac computer, the iPod’s screen turn to show the famous killer icon;“The Sad iPod“.
This time it was totally dead, even failed to put it into Disk Mode and non of the computer could recognize it. Sigh, I hated to do it but I knew that I must did the following:-
Holding the iPod in my Palm, and hitting it on a surface of a Sofa with 5 attempts.
Did not surprise me, the iPod turned on and it showed the Language Menu on the screen. So, I put it into Disk Mode and connected with my window PC.
The PC showed a sign and indicated that an USB device had been connected with it. I opened the iTunes and did a Restore there.
However, an Error Message 50 showed up, but I were not worried about it, connected it back with my Mac computer with it in Disk Mode. As expected the iTunes opened and allowed me to do a Restore there.
This time it managed to complete the process and a window of register pop up. After the completed the process, the iPod started to sync with the iTunes again, which finally managed to complete the process.
I left it connecting with the AC charger overnight. In the next morning, I switched it on and have a play with it, I am so glad as it is working like a charm.
From the above experience, I would like to share it with the user the following:-
    1. It always better to charge with an ac charger instead of the computer, as when an iPod carrying with very low battery, it may not able to get charge from a computer
    2. Try to connect the iPod with a computer, switching between USB and Firewire
    3. Try to format an iPod with HD problem, with a different kind of computer e.g. Mac or PC, as the formats are totally different, the way it formats may able to solve the bad sectors on the HD
    4. It may get better chance to get your iPod recognized, if you put it in Disk Mode
I hope the following works in your case as I did.

  • Ipod no longer plays anything, it just sits there on 0:00 and looks at me

My ipod now does not play anything, songs podcasts anything. In each case I can select the song and it will sit at 0:00. I can change tracks, press pause but it won't play.
I have have reset, upgraded itunes to 7.4.1, rebooted the pc, upgrade the firmware 1.2.1, restored, cried, everything.
    It's broken isn't it?

Is everyone having this issue able to play music from your iPod through iTunes? I have discovered that while connected and playing music through iTunes and holding the iPod up to my ear I can hear the HD spinning and working as it should.
When I disconnect the iPod and attempt to play a song I hear the same sound for about 3 seconds and then it quits. The counter does not move and the song does not play.
Can anyone having the same issue attempt what I mentioned above and post their results.

  • Ipod Tough 4th Generation Apps Won't Update

    Hello,
Just got the message to update some apps on my ipod.  Now it won't update to IOS 7, which is fine, but I've never had a problem with it not being able to update the apps.  It says it's no longer compatible.  I'm assuming that this is because the new apps are for IOS 7.
The find my phone is pretty important and I'm wondering if the fact that it won't update will hinder it from working properly.
Also, the garageband & pages will not update as well, and I find it very handy to use it to put down ideas on my ipod and then transfer it to my computer.  Will the fact that it won't update cause compatibility issues with the computer as well, since I just updated it to Mavericks?
Is any body else having this problem?
    Thank you for your responses.

Go to settings>icloud>storage and back up>back up
after that download the ipsw corresponding to your ipod. usoing link below
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/18/ios-7-ipsw-direct-download-links/
After download hold the ipods home and power button for 15 seconds. itunes will detect an ipod in recovery mode. hold the option key and click restore. finder will pop up and find the ipsw via search and click on it and choose it.
    this should work

  • Can't play songs on iPod 80Gb Classic.

Newbie to iPod. Former PC/Windows 2nd level support officer. Have brand new iPod bought duty free. Tried to load iTunes, but couldn't. Error message "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured." It goes on to tell me to try later on. Searched on the error message in Google and visited several forums. As suggested, uninstalled Quicktime and purged registry of anything Apple with the exception of directly iPod related stuff. Puerged PC of ALL unnecessary files. Tried to install again with same result. One forum suggested Winamp as an alternative. Purchased and installed Winamp Pro. Getting to know the program, managed to rip and play a few tunes, but playlists weren't working. Purged iPod of all music (not control files!) and have successfulley ripped and synched about 600 songs onto the iPod in MP4/LC-AAC Encoder v1.28 format. Cannot play these songs on the iPod. It shows them as "now playing", but there's no movement on the progress bar or on the time countback. If I hit the play button and hold the iPod to my ear, I can hear the drive spin up, then stop. Can play files on the iPod on my PC. Hard drive must be OK, as I can synch to it.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

I was having similar issue. Songs would play to a specific point, then immediately skip to next song at same point in song everytime. All the songs I was having this issue with were MPEG Layer 1. I highlighted the songs in my library, converted them to AAC, deleted the MPEG-1 songs off I-Pod Classic, then re-loaded the converted AAC files to IPOD. That solved the problem. I don't notice any difference in sound quality either. I was worried they would be "re-compressed" by doing this, but can't tell any difference if they were. I have not loaded the new firmware, as I've been reading about all kinds of problems with it. The Classic manual on the Apple Support site shows this:
iPod classic doesn’t support WMA, MPEG Layer 1, MPEG Layer 2 audio files, or
    audible.com format 1.
If you have a song in iTunes that isn’t supported by iPod classic, you can convert it to a
format iPod classic supports. For more information, see iTunes Help.
