Hold switch button

If I turn the hold switch on (while I am listening to music)to disable the ipod buttons, eventually the song will pause, is there something I should do or shold not?

Welcome to the forums.
Ok, first off, check the make sure that when you are listening, that you do not pull out the headphones. Even slightly. The iPod has a function built in that when you pull out the headphones, the music pauses.
Secondly, if that doesnt work, try resetting your iPod. do this by:
1) Turn hold on
2) Turn hold off
3) Hold down center and menu buttons
4) Wait till iPod restarts, and apple logo appears
5) Enjoy
Dont worry, you wont loose anything on your iPod by resetting it.

The forward button won't work and the hold switch doesn't either.  I tried restoring it, but that didn't work.

Restore to factory settings.new iPod if you have not yet already. If still problem time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • TS4436 I cant switch between cameras on my iphone 5 , the little switch button is gone

I can no longer switch from the front camera to the main camera, the little switch button is gone.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPhone shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • Hold switch doesn't work

got my new iPod, applied my invisible shield, and the come to find out that the hold switch doesn't work
so i drained the battery completely, recharged it, and it started working. but now, out of no where, it stopped working again. just found it on hold and playing in my jacket pocket.
so this time, i tried doing a software restore and drained the battery once (though i didn't let it sit as long as i did last time before charging again) and its still no go. i'm draining it again, and its nearly dead, but still trys to turn on if you press the menu button even if the hold switch is turned on.
anyone had a similar issue? any ideas?

I guess you may need to get it replaced with new one.
Just visit Apple store, if you live by.
    Or you can call Apple.
I saw other people's threads complaining hold switch malfunction.
I believe Apple is currently offering no-question repalcement event on any hardware related 5G iPod/video.

  • Ipod will come out of HOLD but buttons still wont work

everytime i use my ipod, i will select a song and listen to it.
When i do this i push the hold button over because i put the ipod in my pocket and i dont want it to turn the volume up or switch songs etc. When i try to take it off of hold the screen will light up like it has been taken off of hold but no buttons or the click wheel will work. It takes anywhere from 10-30 tries, sometimes more, to get it to work by switching the hold switch back and forth. Is anyone else having this problem and is there a way to fix it.

Sorry, I did try that -- it was actually the first thing I thought of to do. I tried it again when you suggested it just to be safe, and conditions stayed the same. Since then I have hooked up my remote (which I never use so I did not think of it right away) and it is responding to the commands I can give it through the remote. Unfortunately the Pod itself remains in hold so I can't use the click wheel or anything. Is there a way to reset it through the remote that you know of? Do these details give you any ideas about what the problem is?

  • The Hold Switch is Messed up

I was listening to music and went to change a song then it looked like it was frozen so i switched the hold button thinking that was it, but it fixed itself in a few minutes. Then when the iPod came back on it said the hold switch was turned to on but it wasn't. Now i cannot do anything with it!!
    IBM Thinkpad   Windows XP Pro

Restart your ipod. Turn hold switch on and off (even though your pod says its on, it might work) then hold the menu button and the middle button at the same time for ten seconds. It doesn't need to be connected to your computer. If you don't get it, refer to the documentation that came with your iPod.
If it doesn't work, restore it. If not, then we have to go a step further.
If you're still under store warranty, find your receipt and replace it.If not send it in to Apple. If you're still under warranty with them, they'll fix it for free. If not, then I'm not sure how much it'll cost, but probably from 20-50 dollars.

  • Hold Switch On and Off not working - Always ON

    Hi,
I am having a serious problem with Hold Switch which is all the times in ON condition though I am moving right and left. None of the buttons are working because its in Locked state. Hold switch is not working. Is it a product related issue where in I need to go to store or is there any way to make it work.

Well it used to be that the iPods were not all that hard to open, especially with some simple plastic opening tools. However the new Classic line feature a brand new case design that to the best of my knowledge, no one has figured out how to open without breaking the case pieces. This is why if you look at many of the third parts battery sellings and iPod repair places, none are yet selling replacement batteries due to the inability to get into the ipod without ruining the case.
That said, if you do have a Classic, then it is obviously still under warranty since it just came out. Therefore, I would hit up your local Apple store or send it in if you don't have one near by. The hold switch not working is a warranty issue that they should cover.

  • IPod Classic 160gb hold switch problem

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but my searches were coming up a bit short. I've got a friend who purchased a 160GB classic, and since buying it she has been unable to use the hold switch to keep buttons from getting pressed and turning the iPod on while sleeping (say, in a backpack, etc.).
I personally just restored the software to 1.1.1 and have done several resets, etc. I have been successful in getting the device to hold while off a total of 4 times. What happens is that you can put the device to sleep either by holding play/pause, or using the sleep menu item, and that works fine. The problem is when you then try to lock it in sleep, it turns on, and stays on indefinitely. While in this "on and locked" state, it's not playing music or really doing anything other than displaying the menu.
Any help is appreciated. I did nothing but talk up the iPod to her until she went and bought one, now she's regretting her purchase.
    Thanks in advance.

A restore would have ruled out the possibility of corrupted software/data. So at this point, we can be certain that the hold switch is faulty and needs to be replaced. Either that or replace the entire iPod.
    Here is Apple's repair pricing.

There are also third party services out there that will cost less. Just Google for "iPod repair" and you should get a number of hits.

  • The "hold" switch broke (Zen Touch 20

Hello, my "hold" switch broke on my 20GB zen touch MP3 player. Does anybody know what I could do to replace the button or fix it (the MP3 player is in perfect condition otherwise). Thank you.

    hi,
i have exactly the same problem. but, unfortunately, no idea for an solution. it's a shame as the hold switch is (was) very useful.

  • Hold Switch Pushed into iPod

Last week, I noticed my hold switch was starting to collapse into the iPod. One side of it was lopsided, and I was required to use my fingernail to push it out of Hold. Today, it was pushed so far in, that it's difficult to get it out even using my fingernail. I have never put any extreme pressure on the hold button, and I've only dropped the iPod a few times, never on a hard surface and not for a long time.
I've only had this iPod since around May, when my second iPod mini (the first one broke, of course) died and I sent it back to Best Buy and got $200-something in store credit. So I paid the $70 to get a new iPod video, and didn't get an extended warranty again. I guess I didn't need it, considering the thing could only go 4 months without starting to show problems.
So, my question is, can I take it somewhere, like Apple Store, to have them fix whatever's making the hold button collapse? Or do I have to send it back to Best Buy and wait a month to get credit back to buy a new one? Does Apple purposely make iPods so they will eventually just start crapping out, or what? Because this has been my third iPod in an 18-month period.

    My suggestion...
If you can, go in person to your nearest Apple Retail store and have it looked at by someone at the Genius Bar.
(At some stores, there may be a separate bar specifically for iPods).
It is crucial to make an appointment online. I wouldn't recommend going there in person without making an online appointment 1st. Expect a LONG wait if you do go without making the online reservation.
If you are a ProCare member, I believe you can make an appointment up to one week in advance. If you are NOT a member, you can only make an appointment the same day.

  • Hold switch question

I am familiar with the operating characteristics of my almost 2 year-old 30 gig iPod. I recently purchased a 2nd Generation 4 gig Nano...I received no manual with it, and I am not able to access a manual from the Apple site. I understand that (unlike my 30 gig older unit), ANY button will turn on my newer Nano. That function works just fine. However, I have a question about the HOLD switch on the Nano. My Nano turns off just fine. And the hold switch will keep it from turning on accidentally, just like on my older 30 gig iPod. However, when I release the HOLD switch on the Nano, it turns ON this newer unit. Is this normal, and if not, what is wrong? My assumption is that the software in the Nano recognizes the hold switch as just another button...and all buttons turn on the Nano. Correct?
    Best, and thanks.
    Byll

I would say this is normal to because it occurs with my nano each time that i use the hold switch. And nothing abnormal occurs when i use the hold switch after i have unlocked after the nano has been asleep. And here is the nano manual... you need adobe or preview to view the manual.
