Holes in macbook pro retina
k i feel this thread silly little bit but really this annoy me " there are some on the top of macbook not those only " , is there anything for this ?
While there is a kind of epoxy with aluminium powder blended into it,
there is no way to tell if there may be a match in color or tint, with that
of the MB/Pro Retina's metal case. Goes by retail 'JB Weld' brand...
But that likely would not match & then may create another visual issue.
I'd ask someone at an Apple Store, and mention those sample defects
in there & were included when it was new; though they may choose to
believe otherwise. Suggestion could be made, that something was in
between the lid and the keyboard, and closed inside; but then would
there not be similar marks in the display glass? I'd ask the experts...
When did you purchase this device, and did you buy it locally? Is there a
store manager or other contact at the store to discuss, nicely, this issue?
Sorry that your experience with a premium product has been blighted.
Good luck & happy computing!

Brand new macbook pro retina - fan noise when running hola?
Hi everyone, I need some help here please!
I have a brand new macbook pro retina 13 - just bought in January this year - and have had no problems so far apart from the wifi dropping occassionally.
So I just downloaded hola unblocker for firefox but whenever I stream anything using it on netflix my fan starts whirring so loudly - it's never even made a noise before! and I can feel the base of the mac getting hotter. So I've closed hola/firefox and it stops after a minute or so. I've tried a few times again with the same problem.
I'm just using it to watch US netflix so probably not technically legal anyway.... but other friends manage it no bother - do mac's just know I'm doing something wrong? haha
Thanks for any advice.Try running Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder). Click the Energy button at the top and then stream a video. Watch the Energy Impact.
I suspect what you'll see is that your rMBP is doing a lot of work while you're streaming the video, and that makes it get hot. The fan struggles to dissipate the resulting heat in order to prevent damage and makes noise in the process.
It may also have a guilty conscience. -
MacBook Pro Retina 13' HDMI Problem
Hi all,
Two weeks ago I discovered a problem with the HDMI output on my external monitor (LG IPS 234) when connected to a MacBook Pro Retina 13'. The monitor wasn't able to display greyscale information. E.g. the underlying greyscales of a Google preview search suggestion when hovering a mouse over the suggestions. Also the whole monitor display looked washed out and fuzzy. I thought it would be a problem with the monitor, so I hauled it back to the store. We checked the monitor with a MBPR 15' and everything was fine (screens not in sync - important see below). I started thinking the new 13' MBPR might be the issue. But before leaving the store and blaming my MBPR 13' we checked out another 13' MBPR and (supprise!) the same effect again. To double check we tried another external monitor from Samsung (ok, I know if Samsung is not working with an Apple MBPR...). But seriously... The same effect again.
I contacted the Apple support and after discussing this with the 1st level (with little helpful tips ... SMB reset etc.) I was forwarded to the 2nd level. The guy wasn't able to help me either. He blamed my monitor and that it might need a firmware update. The problem could be linked with some incompatible HDCP. But a firmware update can only be done by the monitor vendor or a service partner and LG doesn't even indicate that this is possible at all.
Now my question is, does anybody else experience problems with external IPS displays and the MBPR 13'?
As I said, we tested it with 2 different MBPR 13' and 2 monitors from different vendors. In each combination the same problem. Always the same effect. For me this is an indication that there might be a bigger problem under the surface.
Kird
PS: a friend with a MPBR 15' has the same effect but only when the internal and the external IPS monitor is in sync
PS: the Apple 2nd level support promised me to give me a call regarding further steps to solve the problem (with a fixed date on Monday this week) ... They never called... Poor service Apple!Hello Daniel,
I gave Apple a call last week and asked for a feedback on my ticket. The guy I talked to at least tried to help me with the issue. In the meantime since my last attempt to receive something from Apple nothing has happened on the issue. Surprise! So we started from 0 again... Ok... Bought in customer with a decent pain level...
I received some test tools from the guy that I ran on the MPPR creating an encrypted file (...yes I can imagine what you think and I can assure you I had similar thoughts...) and mailed this stuff back to Apple. Now that they have insight of my whole digital live (ok I distend it a bit, but in reply to my question what's all included in this file the guy mentioned something like "don't worry only technical stuff..." Ah yea... That's why it is encrypted... You might find an info about a malfunction in the HDMI inside... very confident... Ok... What you all do for a chance of solving an HDMI problem).
So the current status is: Apple engineers are spending nights in the office to dig into whatever this tools squeezed out of my innocent MacBook. You see I have reached a state where I am slowly drifting into sarcasm ;-)
The guy mentioned there might ! be a patch coming with the next release if Apple finds the issue important enough ! and ! enough other customers have the problem as well. And on this I am not kidding. That's what he said.
Hmm... Will 3 customers be enough? I doubt it... We'll find out with the next release. Maybe we can increase the complains from release to release and empirically estimate when Apple starts taking customers seriously.
My personal guess is that they will dismount the HDMI port and send us an aluminum plug that fits perfectly in the hole. I have a flashback... There was once an issue with an antenna and they offered a piece of plastic to...
I am getting carried away so I better stop now :-) and return to my wine
Let's stay in touch if you find out something on the GB

WRT1900AC and Macbook Pro Retina - refuses to connect with Wireless N
I have the first generation Macbook Pro Retina, and just recently upgraded my D-Link D-655 for the Linksys WRT1900AC. I also put the router on the first floor (the D-Link was in the basement) because there were some huge holes in wireless coverage I hoped to fix.
To my dismay, the thing will not negotiate a connection with ANY wireless N device as wireless N. When I set it to wireless-N only on 5 GHz, nothing will connect to it, and same with 2.4 GHz. My macbook's system report shows the network as being Wireless G on the 2.4 band and wireless A on the 5 GHz.
I have 50 MBPs internet here, and when I plug directly into the router, I get that. However, I am maxing out at 20 MBPs over wireless with both my macbook and my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I'm about at wits end, my next step is to return this thing. I have been on hold with support for 20 minutes, which is freakin eerie because they have no hold music or talking so it's just dead silent.
This morning I spent an hour on a live chat with support, and nothing she had me do made it better, and in fact any changes made it drop from 20-21 MBPs down to 16-17 maximum.
On her advice, I re-installed the firmware, downloading from online, and this had absolutely no effect. Any other ideas to try? I get these crappy connection speeds sitting 3 feet away from it. I live in a house, so no massive interference from neighbors (only 2 other wifi networks are visible)
Solved!
Go to Solution.let me be clear here: I had the same slow speed with both my mac and my galaxy s4, it is not a mac problem. I had disabled media prioritization and the WMM thing in the settings for media prioritization. Yes I am sure I am connecting to the right SSID. The old router is DIR-655. Part of the reason I wanted to upgrade is it disconnected my galaxy s4 every 2 minutes (and many people have had that problem, a quick google search verified that the router just doesn't like galaxy s4). OS X 10.7.5 but as I said my Galaxy has the same issue - it does not connect as wireless N, and when I make the router Wireless N only, not one of the computers in the house can connect to it. That includes a Mac Mini, Galaxy S4, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro Retina, and a Chromecast (which only works on the 2.4 band, but same issue there).

MacBook Pro Retina Display - Crack/Pixel explosion?
A week or so ago I noticed what looked to be a spec of dirt on my 6 month old MacBook Pro retina screen. However it actually is some sort of chip/crack in the display. There are a few pixels which are now permanently white and you can see the hole with the naked eye and feel it quite easily. It almost looks as if a pen or something has been jammed into the screen but I take good care of my MacBook and haven't caught anything on the screen as far as I'm aware.
I did a search on here and saw that several people have reported "pixel explosions" where dead pixels have burned a hole into the screen. I took my MacBook into the Apple with printouts of several discussions of others reporting the same problem with a hole in the screen but the Genius refused to do anything in my case. She basically said it was impossible for the hole to be anything but my fault despite the forum threads I showed her. Is it worth me taking it into a different Apple store for a second opinion or am I stuck with this annoying hole in the bottom left of my screen forever?I just found out the same thing on my MBPr tonight, acturally i got three this holes two small and one big one, I'm very disappointing, I have been searching and there are many versions of the solutions, some lucky people manage to get replaced, but some people like you didn't convince the genius people for a replacement, have you tried different apple store yet, maybe it depends on the people's mood at the apple store, I'm going to try my luck next Monday, finger crossed, I think i will definitely try different store if i cannot get it replaced, hopefully i will show you my good news. otherwise i will be very sad if i can get it replaced, I'm the Sheldon Cooper(from "bigbang theroy") kind of people, and i will be stare at the point forever and frustrated.

One trick: When you remove the bottom case take note of which screws go in which holes. They differ in length.

Macbook pro retina 2013 broken rubber feet.
Hi all,
The rubber feet on my 2013 macbook pro retina have worn away really badly and a couple have fallen off.
I tried a light glue to hold them back on but this only worked for a few weeks.
I have tried ebay for new cheap Chinese feet but they didn't have my model, purchased some anyway on the off chance they'd work anyway (what's a couple of dollars for such an annoying issue), no dice their centres were too tall so the feet don't make contact with the base (hard to explain, I guess the old models had a hole in the base the feet slotted into)
The online chat person said that apple doesn't sell the feet and that I'd need a whole new base plate... This is ridiculous they're sticky rubber feet! Does anyone have a beat on some after market "fake" feet that would fit my model properly?
I'm not entirely convinced this is caused by reasonable wear and tear, they wore really badly I've never had this issue with old macbooks but I guess arguing it's a manufacturing defect outside warranty is probably more trouble than it's worth.
Thanks all .I measured the diameter of the foot on my MBP and it is 16 mm. I suggest that you measure the size on the retina MBP. If it is the same, purchase the non retina ones and glue them in place. Just on principle purchasing a bottom plate is absurd to replace one of the feet. That was the case with the non retina MBPs a few years ago.
What you may need is a pentalobe driver to get the bottom plate off of the MBPr in order to properly install the foot.

Macbook Pro Retina heat issues?
For any of you that have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display, are you guys feeling excessive heat along the keyboard and on the aluminum directly under the screen? Just wondering, because I am. Let me know. Thanks!
I am a big "Macbook Pro runs too hot" proponent. So I went into my Apple store installed iStat on one of their new MacBook Pro Retina Display laptops and went for it. I ran HD flash video, I ran HTML5 video players. I went into iPhoto and held down the left arrow key and let the machine run through all the pictures as fast as it would load them.
I kept checking with iStat and am truly amazed. I am not sure if it is Ivy Bridge, the vent holes on the bottom, the way graphics are handed off between the descreet and onboard GPU, but that computer never warmed up to "2011" MacBook Pro temperatures.
I was doing some naughty things to that machine, and she performed like a champ.
I did notice the heat vent under the screen hinge has been redesigned and now there is a bigger gap between the vent and the edge of the screen. Like I said also the vents around the underside of the perimeter of the case might also help out, especially since the vents are located right under where the segmented battery is located.
As far as thermal issues. I am impressed.
The new MacBook Pro 15" with retina display is a marvel of technology. and I look forward to see what the second generation of this product looks like.

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?
Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

Where are the Dual Microphones on 15" MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013?
I have just bought a 15inch macbook pro retina late 2013. on the site it mentiones that on the side there are dual microphones but no matter how hard and close i look at the side where the two thunderbolts, headphone jack, USB and Magsafe are i can not see them!!!
any one else have this issue, have i missed something???? have apple decided to cover these two little holes? There might be some confusion about the dual array microphone:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/12/03/13-inch-macbook-pro-retina-review-late-2 013/
"For video chats Apple includes a dual array microphone, with both microphones sitting on the left side of the notebook."
That's those two tiny black dots on the left side. Must be some kind of phased array to track multiple people talking like for FaceBook.
However there is a stereo microphone input:
http://www.cnet.com/how-to/record-through-your-macbooks-headphone-jack/
It's actually the headphone jack, which is stereo and can be flipped as a stereo input (didn't know that).

I bought a macbook pro retina (15 "2.3GHz 8GB Ram) 2 weeks ago, so far so good. Mac has become slow, especially in view of the graphics. Continuous there is a lag window of icons, as if the card nvidia video does not start and the mac was using the shared video card. I do not know what to do has anyone had similar problems? should I contact apple?
Of which I say / Di cui io dico:
You should not be experiencing any lag at all on a Macbook Pro Retina. Therefore I would suggest you contact Apple. Here is their information:

Macbook pro retina doesn't turn on for a day or two
Macbook Pro Retina 13-inch Late 2012
2.5GHz Intel Core i5
OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
So this is a weird one... I recently purchased a used Macbook Pro Retina and the previous owner had upgraded the hard drive for a bigger size. My macbook worked great for a few days but then one night I closed it and the next day when I opened it, it would not turn on. I tried rebooting the battery (SHIFT+CONTROL+OPTION and POWER) then hitting power but NOTHING. At one point, I heard a clicking sound when I would leave the power button down. Then... two days later I push the power button just because and BAM! The screen comes on. (I didn't hear the start up sound, and it wasn't like it restarted.) It was as if the screen brightness was all the way down but then came back. (I kept trying to adjust that too before it turned on).
I don't understand!!! Two days later, same thing happened. Then again, it turned back on a day later.
The only thing I noticed that was weird was when I connected it to my tv with HDMI cable. The laptop screen would freeze and get distorted and I would have to force a restart (the black screen with the apple would appear and the loading bar as if I would updating the software).
I'm soooo confused and I don't want this to keep happening. I would appreciate any type of help or advice!!Hi RACan2,
