Holidays Calendar switched to Hong Kong!

Today I updated Mavericks to 10.9.4 and the Calendar application started showing the Honk Kong holidays calendar instead of the US holidays
Apparently there's no way to configure which calendar appears when selecting the "Show Holidays calendar" check box in Calendar's General Preferences...
My Mac Book Pro is correctly set ot the US locale and if I open Maps it gets the correct location (more than 10000 miles from Hong Kong...)
I seached through all the .plist files and Calendars data and nowhere found any reference to Hong Kong
Is there a way to configure the default holidays calendar? How Mavericks select the country?

First of all thanks for the help!
I did some more testing and I found the cause. In "System Preferences -> Language and Region" I have set US as the region but I changed the currency to Euro. If I put back US Dollar I see the correct US Holidays in the Calendar, but if I put any other currency I see the Hong Kong Holidays
It's only the currency that matters because changing the Measurements units to metric or selecting Monday as First day of week does not change the Holidays calendar
My solution was to subscribe to the US Holidays (https://p11-calendars.icloud.com/holidays/us_en.ics) in iCloud (File -> New Calendar Subscription) and disable the Show Holidays calendar check box
In the iPhone that's not happening because you can't select a different currency for each region

I Have an ipad 4 with ios 7. Through clicking on a link sent in a hacked gmail account, a 'subscribed' calendar, named Hong Kong holidays has been inserted into my calendar. How do I delete this calendar and how does it affect my personal details?
    I have changed my password.

    Hi Cigire34,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Are you syncing the iPad with a computer and do you see the account on your computer? It sounds like you may have Google Calendar account setup on your iPad, which will have to be deleted from settings or the Google site. The instructions in the following article should help.
iOS: Syncing multiple Google CalDAV calendars
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4372
After adding your Google Calendar account using Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account… > Other > Add CalDAV Account, the primary calendar will sync with your device.
To sync additional Google Calendars, you must configure them using this tool on the Google website. Note that you must log in to your Google account to access this page.
    Cheers!

  • Hong Kong or Chinese Calendar

I have not subscribed to ICal Calendars for quite sometime but had a browse today for a Hong Kong or Chinese Calendar.
There doesn't seem to be any, infact there are hardly any calendars to choose from.
Could anyone kindly direct me to a Hong Kong or Chinese Calendar?
If I make one how do I submit it to apple?
    Thank you.

  • Can we manually select the Holiday calendar in iOS 7.1?

As per my title, is this possible without changing the regional setting? As I'm using Singapore as my regional setting but I'm from Malaysia thus the holiday calendar is showing SG by default. Is there any way to change it to Malaysia without changing the regional setting? Else if I change the regional setting it will affect my language and also the formatting.

Switching to day view doesn't crash calendar but I can't launch the calendar app in iOS 7.1 (on my iPad 2) if synch is in and it was last in day view. It crashes on launch.

  • The charsetalias.properties file is gone in Firefox 4? Most web sites in Hong Kong use the Big5-HKSCS charset but declare the charset as Big5. Without charsetalias.properties, the encoding needs to be manually changed very often when viewing them.

I have been defining Big5 as an alias of Big5-HKSCS in charsetalias.properties. This makes Firefox renders pages declared as "Big5" to be rendered in Big5-HKSCS instead. Big5-HKSCS is a standard published by the Hong Kong government because the Big5 charset does not contain many common Chinese characters used in Hong Kong. However, Big5-HKSCS is just an extension of Big5, so most (if not all) Chinese web sites in Hong Kong using Big5-HKSCS declare their pages to be in Big5 in the <meta> tag.
I am now trying out Firefox 4 RC and found that the charsetalias.properties file is no longer there. So in order to read pages containing characters that are in Big5-HKSCS but not in Big5, I need to switch the encoding manually. This is extremely inconvenient. Can you consider bringing charsetalias.properties back?
[http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.i18n/browse_thread/thread/415caa98a6246a00 Someone noticed this issue as well.]

Here's the script I was working on.
It determines the encoding of the site by checking a couple of different ways the meta tag can supply encodings. One way is to have a charset attribute on a meta tag, and the other way is to have a meta tag with http-equiv="content-type" and have charset= be part of the content attribute.
(note: I think [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/document.characterSet document.characterSet()] might be a far more reliable way to detect encoding since it doesn't depend on the specific way the meta tag was written. But I haven't tested it.)
Debugging messages showed that it could detect the specified encodings fine on the few test pages I was trying it on. The problem is in the way I change the encoding.
It currently uses .setAttribute to attempt to modify the meta tags once it finds the encodings. Unfortunately, this doesn't change the selected encoding in Firefox. It doesn't affect the page source, either.
I have to replace those setAttribute calls with something that will actually affect the selected encoding in Firefox.... but I'm not sure what would accomplish that.
    http://pastebin.com/Yt7fygXe
Just a little warning, it's case- and whitespace-sensitive because I didn't get around to using regular expressions yet. So if a page says charset="BIG5", you'll probably need to make it uppercase in the script as well. Sorry, I'm lazy!
Nonetheless, I ''hope'' this is a start...

  • Create a new company DB in Hong Kong Localization

    Hallo,
I have to create a new company DB with Hong Kong Localization, but I can't find it in the list.
You can see that in the attached file.
Should I choose P.R.China Localization and than Hong Kong as Country or may be a bug?
    Thank you for your cooperation.
    Michela

    Hi Michela,
I found today your post in which I'm really interested in.
How did you solved the problem about HK Localization?
Did you realized that an HK Localization actually exist or did you finally adapted the PRC Localization?
As soon as IT services install the new HK company the localization translate everything inside SAP B1 NewCO in Chinese.
We finally find the preference to switch the various menus into English, though it seems that - except for normal menus and  - all other operative windows may present chinese indication.
    Here a sample image:
Whatever we do we are not able to make SAP translate those voices in chinese and some other we find going around inside the system.
Do you have the same problem? or did you manage to solve it.
In addition whenever we prin any situation from the newco, every report comes out written in chinese.
The only solution they could sugest is to create and import some reports from UK localization in order to have those reports we may need in english.
On my opinion this is an unsatisfactory solution.
Looking forward to read from you
Thanks in advance for you kindness

  • Should I purchase CDMA or GSM iPhone for use in U.S. and Hong Kong/China?

I currently have an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 that I bought in Hong Kong, and have been using it in the US through Straight Talk. I love having the flexibility of an unlocked phone when I travel. Unfortunately, the GSM networks in my area are pretty spotty, and Verizon's CDMA coverage is MUCH better. Not to mention the data speed is really slow.
I'd like to purchase an unlocked iPhone 5s without a contract, and hopefully be able to use it on the CDMA network here in america, while still have GSM available for use when I travel back and forth to Asia.
The pros and cons of GSM vs. CDMA iPhones are still pretty muddy for me, but it sounds like buying a CDMA iphone would be better for my situation because I could utilize both networks when traveling, and yet have the best speed/coverage in my current home in the US.
Straight talk or Page Plus is what I'm looking to for carriers. Verizon's too expensive for me.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Does my choosing CDMA seem to be the best choice? Or are there any cons regarding purchasing CDMA that I've overlooked? I've heard people say there is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iphone. My biggest concern is that I arrive in Asia and find that some CDMA lock prevents me from using any other carrier--CDMA or GSM. (Both networks are available there, btw.) I need to make sure I can use data and make calls when I'm there.
    2. If a CDMA iphone is the best choice for me, how do I purchase the right one without a contract? Apple store? Verizon? Straight Talk (do they sell CDMA iphones)?Canada? Ebay seems kinda risky to get an iPhone with the specifications I need.
    3. Does a CDMA iphone still have the slot for sim cards? That's how I've always switched carriers when in Asia.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that StraightTalk disabled their iphone's GSM capabilities. Guess I won't be going there to buy one.
    A few follow-up questions...
So is a SIM slot only used for GSM? This is something I never knew. I assumed for any network (GSM or CDMA) that a new sim card was the way you changed numbers/networks.
I've heard people mentioning that they've been able to buy Verizon iphones and use them on PagePlus, but this information was a year or two old, so perhaps things have changed with the newer models/carrier contracts. Do you know of any people who have had success in using a Verizon iPhone 5s on the PagePlus network?

  • Moving to Hong Kong - is different voltage a problem?

We are moving to Hong Kong and wonder what (if anything) we need to do to use our iMac? Do we need a voltage transformer, or will the computer work without it? On the back of the computer (which we bought in Michigan), the 100-120V. Hong Kong uses 220 volts. Is this a problem, or will the computer recognize the different voltage and adjust accordingly?
    Thanks,
    Beau

The first iMac the Rev A is the only one that does not automatically switch voltages to accomodate the local current. Check here to determine which exact model you have.

  • UK iPhone 5 can't get a 3G signal in Hong Kong

    Hello all
I am in Hong Kong for a few days on business but am unable to obtain a 3G signal - so can't get my emails when i am out of the office. I was hoping that my iPhone would negate the need to also carry a blackberry around. I get the message "could not activate mobile cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a mobile data service".
I have an iPhone purchased directly from Apple (model A1429) and an EE UK sim card and I bought a data booster
I have tried the following :
Ensuring iOS is upto date (it is version 6.1.4)
    Switching to different partner networks
ensuring I have roaming on & mobile data set to "ON"
    Airplane mode on then off
    disabling LTE
    hard resets
Settings > general > reset > reset network settings
    Syncing with iTunes
    Cried and used expletives
Does anyone have any ideas on what other things I may be able to try before I go back to the UK on Friday please ?
    thanks
    Gavin

After returning home I obtained another SIM card - same problem. Went to the Apple store where the genius said it's teh first time he had experienced it, but reset all settings on the phone - both SIM cards worked !! That evening I undertook a restore from iTunes and got  "could not activate mobile cellular data network" yet again. So I reset the phone again then manually installed app after app. Both SIM cards now work.
So that fixed the problem, annoying that it isn't clear exactly what app was causign the problem, and even more annoying I'm having to start at level 1 for Angry birds & Candy crush. Such is life ....

I am unable to flip the pages on on-line newspapers but have no problem doing this with Windows Explorer.

  • How to upgrade PS Elements thro Adobe-store - Hong Kong?

There is a page about upgrading, with very woeful instructions
I can only see option to buy full version
Seems you make some great software; but customer service appalling. [I've been trying for quite some time to get upgrade, today: first issue with even finding how to download - the download manager not even opening, and had to find links via a non-Adobe site; I got download but only option was to buy outright.
Then was switched from US site - where I did try buying upgrade - to Hong Kong, where I live, but can't see upgrade option.]
    Good grief!
    Don't you value your customers?

    Hi Jeff:
    Thanks for the reply.
Don't think it's a browser issue; I saw buy upgrade option thro US site.
Just tried w Chrome [not Firefox], and again only see option to buy Full from:
    HK$ 808.37ex. TAX
I also went to products listing for the HK store; only see options for Full Elements.
Anayway, I have the trial; not sure I have massive need of the upgrade - especially since in meantime, I checked out other software [pricier] that looks to better suit my needs. Downloaded, installed the demo without any hassles. [and would be a one time purchase; I'm not so keen on the renting software from Cloud idea - may warm to it in future]

  • Install Itunes for Windows in Hong Kong

    Good Afternoon.
I live in Hong Kong but I do not read and write Chinese, however, whenever I try to download the English version, I have tried 5 or 6 times, selecting English each time, however, I always only get Chinese.  I am wishing to install iTunes on Windows 7 as this is my OS of choice.
My web browser naturally states my location as Hong Kong so I'm usre it is defaulting to that location and assuming I wish Chinese,  so can someone please tell me either how to download the english version, or if I download the chinese version, how can I convert it to English?  Again, this is the download for Windows 7.
    Thank You
    Christopher

Is there a switch to change iTunes once it is installed from Chinese to English?
That's possible. The following screenshots are for a Simplified Chinese display ... but fingers crossed it should be possible to do this also if you've got a Traditional Chinese display.
Launch iTunes. Select the bottom entry in the second-from-the-left menu, as per the following screenshot:
That gets you into your preferences. Make sure you've got the leftmost preferences tab selected, as per the following screenshot:
Go down to the bottom of the preferences tab. In the drop down menu, select the 6th entry from the top (which is the English United Kingdom option) as per the following screenshot:
Now click the leftmost of the two buttons in the bottom-right-hand corner of the tab (that's the "OK" button) as per the following screenshot:
Now quit and relaunch iTunes. Are you seeing it in English now?
EDIT: sorry wiclee, I see you had things under control already. Apologies for butting in.
