Home burned DVD keeps kicking out

I have a recent 2010-2011 iMac and so does my sister.  She burned a DVD with hundreds of photos on it in iPhoto and sent it to me.  At the time she was given a prompt that it would be a Mac-only read.  I pop it in mine and it thinks for a few minutes.....never shows up on the desktop....then kicks it back out.
I've put in a DVD movie and that plays fine.
Any ideas?  Was it the way it was burned?  I can see the imprint on the back of the disk so there appears to be something on it.

Yes, it kicks me out of Safari and Maps. Both are web apps. A really large page in Safari seems to kick me out most frequently. (Ironically, the Engadget in depth iPhone review is particualy bad in this regard.)
I have been kicked out of iPod but only when I was running Safari. That could be a coincidence, or not. Too soon for me to tell. But I can watch a 1 hour video podcast without interruption, so I suspect it is the web connection that is involved.
It recovers gracefully from these crashes, but they happen fairly frequently and it is still frustrating. I assume this will be high priority for thm to fix.

Do you also connect the external USB drive to the AC power as well while you use it ?
Sometimes USB external drive problems are resolved simply by plugging them into the mains power and trying again.

  • External keeps kicking out

I have a 500gb Lacie external drive. Im trying to organize some files, moving all project files onto one drive (a 2gb internal drive) so Im trying to copy the files from the Lacie to the 2GB internal, but Lacie keeps kicking out and saying "device removed improperly" or something to that effect.
(if its failing, I especially want to get stuff off it)
since it has kicked out several times now, if I try to recopy the files, i get the option, to "replace already existing files" but should I un-check that and say "dont replace" will that duplicate the files or will it ignore them?
if it ignores them, that would be great but if its going to duplicated them (in lieu of "replacement") I don't want that.
whats with electronics anyway? this drive it not that old! under a year!
... and how do I know if its in fact Lacie, or the G5 port?

    BD
Ive got two "duals"... one was supposed to be a really bullet proof one, Firemax its called but the chip set was never good from day one! I tried to get the company to send me a new chipset but they wouldent. the drives tested good but the enclosure is useless! it has an 800 port.

  • DVD keeps popping out.  How do I get it to play???

DVD keeps popping out.  How do I get it to play??

There's nothing else you need to do. Do other DVDs play in your Mac? Hate to say but your SuperDrive may have failed. Try resetting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 and PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
After that you can try a cleaning disc but that usually doesn't help. If your drive has failed you'll have to decide if it's worth replacing the internal with another unreliable slot loading drive or if you should purchase an external unit. If you decide to go the external route I'd recommend a tray loader...and don't buy the Apple USB SuperDrive as it will not work with macs that have a built in drive wether it works or not.

  • Burned dvds keep skipping when played on tv

Hi, i use toast 7 to burn movies adn dvds, lately ive been having problems with the movies that i burned on dvd because when i try to play them on my tv, the movie keep skipping or sometimes it freezes. I have used dvd - and dvd + in case that was the problem, but i still get the same result. Does anyone know the reason for this?
    Thanks

Some DVD players have difficulty reading DVD's burned with Toast 7, and other programs that burn DVD's. Do you have the updates installed? Are you burning via Video_TS folders?
If so try another program, such as Disco (http://www.discoapp.com/).
The more current the DVD player, the less likely that you'll have a player issue. How new is the player?

  • My iPad keeps kicking out of an app. How do I stop this?

How do I stop my iPad from kicking out of an app while I'm using it. Like while I'm playing Angry Birds it will kick back to my main screen.

I have the original iPad & have been having the same issue for weeks nowb I am really getting frustrated.
At first I thought maybe it was just the app & I needed to update it.
-- Nope. Not it. Not only did it not show up as 1 of the apps that needed an update, but it started happening to alot of my apps. Nothing worse than finally beating a level of your game & having it suddenly quit & lose everything.
Then I thought maybe I didn't have the right IOS.
-- Nope. Not it. I've checked in my settings & it says I have the latest (5.1.1).  Still not convinced, I plugged into my laptop to sync & hope there was an update. Nope. Says I have the latest version.
Then I think it's a memory thing. So I start going thru & deleting apps I don't really use anymore.
-- Nope. No help. Turns out I'm not even using half my available memory.
So I start researching what the Internet says latest IOS is. I find out it says the latest iPad operating version is IOS 6.
-- I get excited because I think I found the reason. Nope! Turns out that the original iPads can't update to the IOS 6. :(  They can't go higher than the 5.1.1 that I already have. Now I'm really not happy.
I decide to google my problem & see if I'm the only one this is happening to.
-- Nope! I find this is happening to a lot of people. I see all the different advice: clear the app tray, restart your iPad, check your memory... Though I'm grateful for people trying to help, none of it works. :(
I am really getting frustrated!!!! It's taken everything I have to not throw the dang thing off a balcony. I can't really enjoy doing anything on it anymore. Almost every game I get into, it randomly quits. Especially aggravating when it's a game that has limited play.
I really hope Apple fixes this!!!! I love Apple & all my gear is Apple products. But I don't really have the funds to just drop money on a newer one that does actually work. My iPad is still in perfect shape in every other way. I really can't afford to just go out & buy one because they don't want to give us a functioning updated operating system.
APPLE, please help!!!! I beg you!!!

  • Can't Burn DVD - keep getting "Error during rendering/encoding"...Help!

I have a new IMac computer with Leopard and I'm having problems burning DVDs. I created a project using IDVD and have audio and pictures (imported individually from Iphoto) that I created into slideshows. I'm try to burn my final copy and continue to receive the "Error during rendering/encoding" message. I looked at earlier threads and saw some people had success when saving it first to a disk image however when I attempted to do that I received the same error. I know I have plenty of memory space since this project is very small. Please let me know if you have any ideas!!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a new mac with Leopard since a week, and I had the same problem ("error during rendering / encoding..."). This happened when burning to a disk image.
    I tried a lot of things :
    * very small project
    * create a new user
    * put pictures in a folder, and not drag them from iphoto
    * change the theme
I still had the same problem.
The last thing I tried was to put all the files used by idvd on the hard disk (instead of of an external firewire disk).
It worked ! (with the small size project).
I'm trying to burn the large project again...
I will tell you if it succeeds...
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

  • Home wireless network keeps "timing out." Help!

I currently have an eMac with a wired connection to an AirPort Extreme base station that creates a wireless network in my home with Time Warner Road Runner. I also have an Airport Express that acts as a relay station.
For some reason lately, the wireless internet connection is S-L-O-W and often I can't load a page and get the message "network connection timed out, server may be busy." The wireless signal is excellent and I've restarted both the Base Station as well as the Express but no luck. I use a G4 PowerBook and my wife uses an iBook and the problem occurs on both
    The wired connection works great.
Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? Thanks for any help.
    Sunil
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm running into a simiar situation with Time Warner Road Runner. I have 3 PCs with a wired connection to a linksys router that creates a wireless network for my MacBook.
For the first 4 days the wireless network worked great. I could access the internet from anywhere in the house on my MacBook. On the 5th day I couldn't connect to the internet on my MacBook. I've power cycled the cable modem and the router, updated the router firmware and even called Apple Care. No one has an answer. Like you, my wired connections work just fine. And the wireless signal is great. The MacBook can see the wireless network and get on it but cannot connect to the internet through it.
I believe it may be a DHCP lease renewal issue for the IP address. The MacBook doesn't show an IP address in its Network Configurations for the router. My network locations keep resetting their port priorities to bluetooth instead of airport and everytime I do a diagnostic I get a message that says "another program has changed your network configurations, click ok to continue". But I don't have any answers.
    Maybe someone out there does?

  • IDVD won't burn DVD, keeps showing up with "You Inserted a blank DVD..."

I keep getting the error during the encoding process for burning. The prompt shows up as if i just inserted a new blank DVD, and gives me an encoding video error.
Does anyone know how to prevent this?

You can set preferences within apps like roxio toast to automatically launch when Blank dvd media is inserted into your mac / burner. And if this is the case then you may need to address these preferences so they don't overtake iDvd from the start.
Check your preferences for burning a dvd as to which app/s you have selected to perform this function. Perhaps you have another app other than iDvd selected.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • After burning dvd, the audio out runs the actions or speaking

after the dvd is made and i play it back on a dvd player, it is as if the audio is being heard before the actuall speaking. why is this?

They were all encoded in compressor and all are about 7.6 Mb/s. The thing is, only 2 of 14 have the issue. Granted, they are the 2 longest, but not by that much. And it is out of sync for the entire program, it doesn't gradually get out of sync. Also, opening the Video_TS folder (on the computer, not the disk) in VLC shows the same problem, so its not the player, the disk media, or even the burning process. It's somewhere in the "build" process. I will try a lower data rate for those two, but it should be fine for less than an hour of material.

  • Dvd driver kicks out dvd media -

    Please help me.
I have a iMac in my home and Power MacG5 in the office.
I need to get some video editing files to bring in office.
If I take a data dvds of the editing files from my home to my working place, dvd driver just bring them out of dvd driver.
    No messages!
I wonder if anybody can help me.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The Superdrives are crappy. My mini has had two in less than three years. Thankfully under warranty. Anything can send one over the edge, even an OS upgrade. However, an external USB drive may be cheaper than the internal if you are paying out-of-pocket.

  • Converting home burned dvd's

i was wondering if anyone knows how to get dvd's i burned on my dvd recorder on my ipod. i use videora, but it doesn't work for some reason.

Imagine that "Videora" not working. You and half the world. Never touched it. When I saw that it was "patched" together from other freeware programs (ffmpeg and AVISnyth) I knew it was doomed. Go here and get one that works by a company that knows what they are doing.

  • Can't mount home burned dvd-rw

At one point things were fine. I could mount my dvd-rw with .avi files on them. I had burned them myself and could watch them with Quicktime & flip4mac. Now the dvd's won't mount. The Mac says they are blank dvd's. What is up with that? I am trying this on the PowerBook G4.

David Pogue wrote about this, he's had trouble with DVDs being that age (4 years & under) not reading anymore! try a different computer - newer mac or PC, if one is available to you.

  • Home Hub 4 keeps dropping out

I received my home hub 4 in October 2013 but after numerous calls to the BT Helpdesk I have now had to revert back to my home hub 2 to get a decent reliable signal Im currently paying for BT infinity unlimited but I'm seriously thinking and going to sky they seem to a more reliable product. I've phoned the BT Helpdesk and they are equally useless being on hold for 45 minutes and being transferred to be put on hold for a further 20 minutes with no resolution to the issues I've reported

    Hi Dogandnophone,
I'm sorry that you're having problems with your BT home hub dropping out. Have you tried to manually change the wireless channel? Check out this link for help with this and let me know if it works.

  • Putting home burned dvd's on ipod

i have TiVo connected to my TV and i have a DVD burner, so I like to burn TV shows and sports. when i try to decrypt those dvd's it doesn't read. does anyone know of a free dcryper that works.

when i try to decrypt those dvd's it doesn't read. does anyone know of a free dcryper that works
    They aren't encrypted.
You simply need something to RIP the DVD to your hard drive.
Have you tried using TiVoToGo? This allows you to connect your TiVo directly to your computer. No need to burn to DVD to get it on your computer.
