Home button doesn't respond.

Hi-
I'm having difficulty operating my iPod, and I was wondering if anybody had a solution.
*ISSUE THAT MAY RELATE TO THE MAIN PROBLEM:*
I needed to install the Myst Update (about 550MB) on my iPod touch, so I did it over WiFi via Mobile App Store for iPod Touch. (Yes, I know, large files SHOULD be downloaded through your computer, NOT through a mobile connection.) Anyway, I just decided to take the risk and do it anyway; I had to delete some content before the update could install. While the update was installing, I decided to watch a couple of podcast/TV show episodes just to keep the device awake while it was downloading. About 30 minutes later, the device started acting very strangely. It notified me several times that the app was over 10MB (Remember Myst: About 550MB), which I knew, and it also prompted me several times for my password. I typed in my password every time it prompted me, and when my current episode finished i went to go check on the download. The app displayed "Installing..." underneath it's icon, but I waited for about 5-10 minutes and the application's Install Bar didn't move. (I can assume that even the Install Bar an application of that size would move at least a little bit within 10 minutes.) Also, the icon wasn't responding at all when I tapped on it. (Like it didn't switch to "Paused" or anything like that.) So, in hopes of resolving the problem, I reseted the device. When the device booted back up, it asked me to unlock the device with the slider, which I did. Then upon entering the home screen, I saw that Myst had been installed. But right next to it was a grey application icon labeled "Loading..." with an empty bar. I tried to remove the icon by reseting the home screen layout, restarting the device, and reseting the device. My last idea was to just restore the software. (By that time it was like 12:00, and I was REALLY tired, so I decided to fix it in the morning.
*THE MAIN PROBLEM:*
I didn't get around to restoring the software till a few days later, but I did it eventually. I plugged it into the computer, powered it up, and clicked the restore button in iTunes. After the restore completed, I was prompted to restore from a backup, or set up from scratch. I chose set up from scratch, and after an hour of syncing ALL of my media back on to my device, I ejected it safely from iTunes, and umplugged it from the computer. First, I wanted to set up one setting in peticular. I went to Settings>General>Home>iPod to access the iPod features with a double click of the home button. Immediately, when i tried it out, it didn't work. I tried going back to the home screen. Nothing. From the main settings window, I went back to General>Home>Home hoping to reverse whatever changes I had made. But that didn't work either. I tried reseting the iPod, but that didn't work. So now, whenever I launch an app, I'm stuck there, until I shut the device off or reset it. I'll be bringing it to the Apple store in the next few days, but i wanted to check for a solution here first.
It sounds like a perplexing problem, but anything helps!
Let me know what your suggestions are if you have anything.

you won't like this response, but it could be some sort of file corruption that occurred during the sync process. if it's a software problem, restoring (as new) it should fix it (you probably don't want to do that again, but it may fix it.) if not, apple is where it needs to go, a restore is pretty much the last solution we 'mere users' can offer.

    Hello jamills706,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your Home button on your iPhone.  I know how important and necessary this button is.  I recommend the following steps (these steps are for the iPhone but are relevant for the iPad as well):
    The Home button isn't working
    Put the iPhone to sleep.
    Wait a couple of seconds.
    Press the Home button.
    iPhone should wake up.
If iPhone does not wake up, then iPhone should be serviced.

My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • [iPhone 3GS] Home button doesn't work on new phone

After half a day new iPhone 3GS stopped working properly.
Home button doesn't respond. It works only when I plug iPhone to the computer.
Voice cotrol runs by himself unexpectadly.
iPhone 3GS with preinstalled iOSx 5.0.1. Should I update to the new 5.1 or downgrade to the 4.0 version?

If it were me, I would return it for a replacement.  Also, you can only upgrade the iOS, not downgrade.

  • HT201412 My iphone's home button is not responding when I press it.  I sometimes have to press it several times before it works or it just doesn't work at all.  Any advise?

My iphone's home button doesn't always work.  I sometimes have to press it several times to get to my home screen.  Many times this doesn't work and I just give up.  It is happening more frequently now, almost daily and usually lasts all day when it's having a bad day.  I've tried calibrating it and I've also tried a phone reset; neither helped.  Any suggestions?

Re-Calibrate it. Press the power button until the slide to turn off shows. DO NOT TURN IT OFF. Leave it on the slide to unlock screen and press the home button for about 30 seconds until the slide to turn off screen leaves.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My home button doesn't work very well, I reset and restored my Ipod but it still doesn't work

I've had this 4th gen. IPod since about mid-June, and it worked fine up until about a month ago.  The home button doesn't work very well, and by that I mean if I'm in an app and hit the button once, it won't respond, or it'll think I hit it twice.  If I hit the button twice, it either won't respond, or it will think I hit it once.  I took it to the Apple store where they reset it.  They said that if that didn't work, then to restore it.  Well since resetting it didn't work, I restored it, and that didn't work either.  I've had the same generation IPod before and never had this problem.  Any advice?

  • My home button doesn't work, how do i fix it?

One day i noticed my home button wasn't working. I tried a lot to try and fix it, like restoring it on itunes. That did not help whatsoever. It has been like this for about1 month. Whenever I need to get out of something I need to turn my phone off and turn it back on which gets really annoying. Is there an easy way to fix it? Please help!

You may be having a physical hardware issue so take it to the Apple store if you are in warrantee. You can use a digital home button if you go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch>On. Also make sure you quit your apps (double click home button and hold and hit the minus sign. No available resources will cause the home button to not respond.

  • My ipod touch 5th generation will not turn on and the home button doesn't work. what do i do?

Hello my name is Leslie and i would like to ask you guys a question on how to fix my ipod or what is wrong with it. My ipod touch 5th generation will not turn on and the home button doesn't work. what can i do to fix it ?

Has the home button worked in the past, or is this been something that hasn't worked for some time? The only way to reset the device is with the sleep/wake (power) and home buttons together. Without it, you would have to wait until the battery dies and then plug it in to try and reset it. The Home button is used for several user troubleshooting steps. Without it, you cannot perform a reset, put the device into recovery mode, or place it in DFU mode. You need to get the home button repaired.
