Home button doesn't work to go back?

My home button doesn't take me back. I have to turn phone off but as soon as it powers back and start using it it gets "stuck" again and home button won't take me back.

The Home button not working is most likely a hardware problem. I'd make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
Meanwhile, go to Settings>General>Accessibiltity and turn on Assistive Touch. It will give you an on screen button you can use until your phone is repaired or replaced.

If the screen and iPod does not show any life then letting the batter drain will not do anything.
If you tried another cable and tried ReBoot on another computer and still problem then your iPod has to be repaired/replaced

You can use the alternative called assistive touch to enable assistive touch go to settings>general>Accessibility>scroll down to the bottom of the page and enable assistive touch a white dot at the bottom right of your screen will appear press the white dot and you will see the home button

IOS 5.1 Update, Home Button Doesn't Work.

Ever since I installed the iOS 5.1 update on my iPhone 4, the home button does not work at all! I've tried every trouble shooting solution I could find. I've Restarted, I can't hard reset because the home button doesn't work, I've restored from back up, I've restored as new, I've vacuumed out and gently used a tooth brush in the port below the home button in attempt to remove any dust. I've tried opening a factory installed app such as Maps, Safari, Stocks etc and held the top button until the "Slide to power off" showed and then held down the home button until it went to home screen except it didn't go to the home screen at all the "slide to power off" disappeared after a while. I have extremely intermittent response with the Home Button. If i press it continuously it will work after 27 presses one time or 9 presses another but never when I try to do a hard reset and 9.999 times out of 10 it doesn't work. I am so frustrated! I didn't get it wet and it stopped working immediately after the software update. HELP!

I talked to Apple today and was told that it's a "hardware issue" and they will not fix it. I will have to pay 169.00 to have it repaired because it is no longer covered. He told me that "the software update triggered a hardware problem" and that they haven't heard of this issue before either and this was after he went and "spoke with a senior service advisor". The thing is that if THEIR software update triggered the "hardware problem" meaning that if I hadn't updated at all my phone would be in perfect working order right now then HOW IS THAT NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE?! I am beyond livid. I cannot continue using my phone with assistive touch, NOTHING else works and I know this isn't the first time they've heard of it because how can so many people be having this problem and Apple NOT be aware of it?! My family has bought three MacBooks, three MacBook Pros, one iPad, two iPad 2s, seven iPhone 3s, one iPhone 3GS, five iPhone 4s, two iPhone 4S, four Apple TVs, one Time Capsule and COUNTLESS versions of iPods and have never had an issue having any of them repaired and only four of those products had to be and it was a fast and hassle free...then again they all were covered still at the time of repair...
How do you restore to a previous firmware? I don't want a new phone...I want MY phone to work...the one that worked perfectly before their update....this is beyond ridiculous...I wish apple would take a look at their own support communities and see that this ISN'T our problem...it's a problem created by THEM.

Stuck on apple logo and Home button doesn't work, help please?

Well, I dropped my iPod Touch 4g by accident and since that day, the home button hasn't really been working that well. Its very hard to use since you have to press it in really hard to get it to work and sometimes it doesn't even work at all. Anways, I was skyping with my girl and I didn't notice that I had to charge the iPod and it died on me so I was like what ever its normal and started to charge it. When it turned on, it got stuck on the Apple logo and its been there for more than a day now? What can I do? I know about the Press Home + Sleep button together but the Home button doesn't work at all anymore. I tried everything really. I tried to connect it to itunes and see if I could restore it but it won't recognize it no matter where I connect it. Tried it on 3 different computers and none worked at all. I can't take it to an Apple store since there isn't any close to where I live and I really don't have anyone to take me there. I have this same issue. But also, it isn't just that the lock/home button stops working, all buttons stop working. Even if you switch it to silent sounds are still played. I just got my iphone Thursday. Went to school the next day and pulled it out, it happened while it was locked I guess because my screen was black and I couldn't do anything! Thought it died already! This was around 12. Finally I pulled it out of my pocket again at around 3 and it showed the Apple logo and acted like it had just started back up. Which is what always happens after I get stuck playing a game or something. Help please, has happened two or three times just today.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I would place the iPhone in a big bowl of white rice, rather than in a baggie. That's what my brother did with his iPod touch that got wet, and it fixed it. The iPod touch works perfectly fine now, and the bowl is better because while the rice soaks up any wetness or condensation, the openness of the bowl gives way for evaporation.
A good idea would also be to take out your SIM card, if at all possible. Put it back in when you're ready.

Has the home button worked in the past, or is this been something that hasn't worked for some time? The only way to reset the device is with the sleep/wake (power) and home buttons together. Without it, you would have to wait until the battery dies and then plug it in to try and reset it. The Home button is used for several user troubleshooting steps. Without it, you cannot perform a reset, put the device into recovery mode, or place it in DFU mode. You need to get the home button repaired.

Apple would handle this with Replacement iPhone 4 for $149. The repair part is the Home Button flex cable a $2 part. It is a difficult repair because most of the iPhone needs to be taken apart including removing the front screen to get to the Home Button flex cable.

If it never worked after the screen replacement then it would appear that you have a hardware problem either caused by the repair or the problem that lead to the screen replacement.
