Home button making clicky noise.

The home button on my iPhone 5s makes a clicky noise by touching the home button lightly like using the touch-id sensor. This is really annoying me and it started to make those sounds 1 day ago and I have not dropped my phone yet. Is there a easy way to fix this problem?

Hi DanielAFGamer,
If you are having unusual physical button behavior on your iPhone 5s, you may want to look into having it serviced, or at least evaluated. You may find the following page helpful:

  • IPhone home button makes cracking noise

Recently I got my iPhone replaced at an apple store so I'm assuming the phone is refurbished. The problem is when I touch the home button it makes a light cracking noise. It doesn't make it when I press it down, only when I tap it. Will the problem persist? I don't want to have to go back to the Genius Bar as it involves quite a long journey.

I had the same problem. Read elsewhere that a tech at the Genius Bar fixed it in 1 or 2 minutes. So I thought about what they might have done, whiat was probably causing it, and fixed it myself:
Fixed mine this way: Turn the phone sideways and flick the home button with your finger over and over. (Hold your pointing finger with your thumb, then let go and let the fingernail *hit* the button.) Start lightly. Inrease the power of the flicks until the sound disappears. Rotate the phone when doing it if needed.
I think this worked because something was stuck behind the button, and flicking either crushed or dislodged the tiny piece of grit.

  • Home Button Making Clicking Sound

My iphone's home button is making a clicking sound when pressed. its not from the speaker of the phone but from the button itself. it works but it bugs me that it started clicking. is this normal? thanks

If the clicking beings to effect the performance of the button, then you should bring in the iPhone to your nearest Apple Store Genius Bar for a diagnosis. As long as there is no accidental damage, a defective button is covered under your one year warranty and/or your applecare extended coverage. Cosmetic issues do not make the unit eligible for in-warranty replacement.

  • IPhone 6 Plus: home button sticking and making clicking noise

    Hello everyone,
I bought an iPhone 6 plus 64GB Space Grey. I bought it about 2 months ago. Day by day the home button start to become noisy and sticky. Everytime I press the home button everyone in the room hear the sound very clear.
I brought it to an Apple Third Party store in my country. but the staff there seem not really care about my issue. They said unless the home button is completely broken. How could I do?
Day by day the sound become louder and louder. I really feel uncomfortable about this. And I just feel that my iPhone is going to be broken soon.
Note: my phone has official warranty from Apple.
    Any Idea? Thanks in advance.

I also have the 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus Space Grey and after two display (includes Home Button) replacments and 1 full device replacement and I end up with this issue. My home button is LOUD and CLICKY every time I press to the point it feels plasticky...I will probably go into the Apple Store and demand a perfect (or at least close to perfect) full device replacement and inspect in front of the Genius to try to pinpoint any issues. If they do not comply, I'll just call Apple Care and set up an Express or Standard Replacement.
However, I do not suggest you do that. Last time I rubbed alcohol on my iPad mini 2's home button, it messed up the software and I got a replacement.
I'll tell y'all how it goes!

  • IPhone 6 clicking noise coming from home button and also a little loose..anyone else have this issue or suggestions on how to handle it? Any and all suggestions are appreciated

It seems as if when I push my home button there is a loud click or a clicking noise that shouldn't be there.  If I push the home button in certain areas or kind of on the side it's not so bad.  Also it seems as if the button is kind of loose or wiggles a little bit and can also feel the little silver ring and seems as if it's either not on properly or the home button is sunken in pretty good.  I was at the Apple Store and checked out some display models and didn't notice it on those and they all felt solid.  Has anyone else had this issue or experienced this?  Any and all suggestions will help greatly...I just want to know if it's normal or how I should go about taking care of it...thanks!

ok...the doctor is in!....well, yes I agree with other posts concerning "clicky" crunchy touch id/home buttons...ah... we do swaps, cleanings, alcohol wipes....NO NO NO! yes dirt can and will trap inside the extreme minor spaces around the home button and the screen cutout..yes twirling a q-tip round the button only stuffs grime deeper in, but can clean the edge...in this case, that crunch you hear (new out-of-box), its a very popular notice that most do hear a crunchy glass-like snapping sound...being that the touch id does have a sensor ring on the outer side, the actual noise your hearing is ........wait for it......MISS-ALLIGNMENT!!!! yes... pop that sucker open, remove bracket....what do you see??. touch id pressed thru and adheared around the ends of the button...and also most cases, not perfectly aligned..that noise is the actual ring brushing against the screen hole cutout causing metal and glass to bind against eachother... re-seating the button will correct the issue..being that theyre so close together, the slightest miss-alignment can cause that annoying crunchy click sound. find a swap that doesn't...ok that one works but now the silent switch is loose!!!!! ive seen it all

Has nothing to do with the SIM or master reset.  This has been done to my phone.  The SIM once and the factory reset many times over.  You all just sold us a bad piece of equipment and have us by the tail with our contracts so none of us can get a new phone without paying full price or re-upping our contract.  I just got off the phone last night with your high up tech people (you know, the hidden number we get once we tear into your support people enough), they went into my phone again and still didn't find anything wrong.  I about got fired from my job for not getting my calls and texts.  The BBB has now been contacted, and I feel your end should shore this up for all of us!

  • My new iPhone 6 plus just went to a black screen and will not turn back on. If you hit the home button for siri to come on it still works, and if you plug it into the wall it makes the vibrate noise. The screen just won't turn on.

I was looking up a song on the internet, and my internet was being slow, so i was going to the settings to turn internet/wifi off so i could use data. When i did that the screen just went completely black. I didnt know what happened so i plugged it into a circuit into the wall to see if it needed charging. It made the buzz noise when i plugged it into the charger, and siri still works if you hold the home button down. I don't know what to do to get it to turn back on... If anyone knows what to do please help. thanks !

    Hey there Maggie,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips that can help you resolve the blank black screen issue with your iPhone 6 Plus.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If you see a solid color screen (black, white or blue)
Plug in your device to a power source. If you see the low-battery screen when you plug in, let your device charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad) before using it.
Reset your device while it's plugged in.
If resetting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.

  • Home Button Noise

Similar to another question on here, I too have an iphone 5 that I've noticed makes a tiny click noise on the home button when slightly pressed. I'm not talking about the full click. I think it's just because its a physical, separate button that has some normal movement. The other posts I've read said it was normal. Regardless, the button functions and that should matter most. But I honestly only hear it in very quiet places. It doesn't always happen, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same "issue." The apple tech said it was normal but I just wanted other opinions. Im probably freaking out over nothing. Thanks for any helpful responses.

If it bothers you, then this is a real problem. You need to find a nice Genius at your Apple Store. Make appointment so you don't have long wait. Before appointment, sample the Demonstration iPhone 5 in the Apple Store, if it functions perfect, show this to the Genius and nicely request that your iPhone needs to function properly like the Demonstration Model. They should honor your request.

  • My home button makes a clicking noise

My home button on my iPhone 4s makes a very annoying clicking noise whenever I click my home button. How do I stop this?

Sounds like your iPhone has a problem. You need to compare your iPhone to another iPhone 4 to see if there is a difference. A good place to do that is the Apple Store. If you notice a difference, you can make an appointment right there in the Apple Store and possibly see a Genius within an hour, or better yet make appointment before you go to Apple Store. Show the Genius the obvious difference in function and quality of the showroom model compared to your iPhone. Maybe the Genius will agree with you.

  • Home button not as clicky, will I be charged?

My home button doesn't seem as clicky as other iPhones I've used. It also seems stiffer and sits lower than it should. I rang up apple and went for the express replacement. I've seen that they charge you if they don't think theres any service needed. The button itself seems to work so will they charge me?

    Excellent!
Because I've just sent my iPhone 4S for a mushy home button, and also intermittently it won't work properly (missing clicks, registering one as two and vice versa)
Because the problem is so intermittent and it happens sporadically, and once I firmly press down hard on it and go completely apesh** at it, it will work nicely for a couple of days and then go back to it's old tricks. I've explained this issue to an AppleCare Advisor and he offered me an express replacement. There's no physical damage to the iPhone, and the water indicators haven't been tripped. However, since this problem is intermittent (the not registering properly is, but the mushy and non-clicky home button doesn't stop) I don't want apple charging me a fee because my iPhone was unable to replicate the issue on command. And I can't sit with a technician for hours and wait for it to happen.
Hopefully it's a "no questions asked" replacement, for the sake of it being a problem that happens every now and then. And knowing my luck, it will probably behave itself for them. -.-
Good to hear that there are no charges. I'm releived.

  • I here a croaking and creaking noise every time I grasp my phone, especially around the home button.

I hear a croaking and creaking noise every time I grasp my phone, especially around the home button.

Would you rather upgrade to windows 8, BlackBerry or Android phones? Do you honestly think those don't have problems?
You waited a lot and chose to buy an early production model. Mistakes happen all the time a factory retools and workers relearn new skills necessary to keep US happy.
Exercise your rights.... Send it back for a new one.
In any case, I feel your frustration. Btw, I love Apple but use a Blackberry

  • My iphone fell down and now the home button is not working well and the phone is making calls itself?

i already updated my phone and download he latest version of itunes. The Siri is turned off and the voice control appers alone and start makiing calls itself. please help me!!

It's pretty clear your Home button is becoming easily stuck in the active position, causing Siri to activate and, based on what it hears, make calls.
You need to hand the phone in and get it fixed.  Shouldn't cost you too much.  Try to find an Apple Authorised Repair Centre in the first instance.  Follow this link and choose your country to see if there's one nearby.
    HTH.

  • My home button keeps tripping activating Siri making phone calls and just acting crazy this phone is really annoying what's going on?

My phone always activating voice control and playing music getting stuck on the Siri screen. Help please!

Try to recalibrate your home button, to do this hold down the sleep/wake button until slide to power off appears then hold the home button until it goes away. Hopefully this will make things better.

  • IPod touch 5th gen clicky home button?

Why is the iPod touch's (especially the 5G's) home button give off such a hard click? The iPhone's home button is very soft and silent. It's kind of irritating, because its so loud and feels like a hard button instead of a small touch piece. I know I'm not explaining very well, but I hope you understand what I'm saying if you have an itouch. Is there any way to fix this? I don't like it and I don't think it's really fair to iPod touch owners.

There is nothing you can do.

  • My iPod keeps flashing white and making a noise when I press the button?

Whenever I press the button, my iPod makes a strange clicking sound and the screen turns white for a few moments. It will not allow me access to the home menu or do anything else that requires the use of the button. I don't know what might have caused it, if it is repairable, or even what is causing the problem. Help??

My ipod does the same thing. The white flashing is the ipod taking a picture of the screen you're on. I haven't found a permanent fix for it, but what I do when it happens is hold the home button down until it turns off then turn it back on.
