Home button not always working

does anyone else have the same problem where there home button is intermitent.
Some times it works first time, other time a double tap won even bring up shortcut menu.
press hard, no response, press light no response, next time pick up phone its ok.
Anyone got any ideas?

Regarding the songs problem, Are you always syncing to one computer/iTunes library? If y sync to another computer/iTunes library your iPod will be erased and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the second computer.

Iphone 5 home button not always working

My, recently replaced by the genius bar, iphone 5 has a home button when pushed sounds like it "sticks" and it doesn't register consistently. I find I have to push it several times to get it to work. I have reset the phone and reset the home button. I have not dropped it nor has it been in water. Does this require another replacement or fix by the genius bar? Thnx

IPhone 5 power button not always working

Hey all,
I got this iPhone 5 (white) 64GB a year from last Christmas. Where I work there is lots of flour, so even with the case on the phone, and even trying to keep the phone away from dust, I think it got to the power button. It still works fully, but I have to press it 3-4 times or even more sometimes to turn the screen off on the phone. To wake it up, same thing. I used the Home button to wake it up in that case. Is there anything I can do to fix this without bringing it in, or taking it apart?. I was thinking my vacuum designed for gadgets and computers, just turn it off and vacuum around the top of the phone a bit, and around the case itself. Let me know what you guys think, thanks.
P,S, the phone is not scratched at all, has never been dropped so this is the only issue I've had with it after a year of ownership.

It seems that this problem is very common, I've asked around. At least three people I know have had the same problem with their iPhone's (iPhone 4, iPhone 5 so far). How come no one replied to this question I posted?, is it a question that everyone hates to answer?.
The only answer I've gotten from research is by using AssistiveTouch to lock my phone, and turning off my iPhone by holding down on the "Lock Screen" button while using the AssistiveTouch feature. (But I'm still mad that this happened).
I found out that this is not a problem with dust. The button's just do this to us. Other owners I know that had this problem were not working around dust.
The only question that still remains, is if this problem is covered under warranty?. But really, from the past I've seen a cracked screen as not covered under warranty, and the same goes for water damage. A bad power button?, that has happened frequently to probably thousands of iPhone owners?. It probably isn't covered. Please correct me if I am wrong in all that I have said here.

Hi. I have a strange problem with my Iphone 5. Sometimes the home button freeze and stop to work. But after a while i start working again. I tried to restart and reinstall the software but the fail still coming back. Very thankful for any helps and tricks.

Seems to be hardware error. To be certain, Restore iPhone with iTunes 10.7 or 11 on computer. See if the function is better. If still a problem, make Genius reservation or make shipping arrangements and take or send iPhone to Apple for resolution under Warranty. If you want to use a perfect Virtual Home Button while you wait, try Assistive Touch. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap the new small white screen button > Home.

Amber button not always working

I recently had my screen replaced due to pixel issues. Since getting it back my amber light at times either doesn't work no matter how many times you click on it, or it isn't there at all. This happens in many programs: mail, internet connect, Browser, Finder Window, Folders that I open. If I quit the program the amber button will start working again. What could be the problem?

yes, apple will fix it. it's a common problem. one low-tech fix is to remove the battery and place a thick piece of paper about 1 cm square under where the button is. some people have had good results from this. it might save you from making that trip.

Next page button not always working..?????

I've created a report which I'm loading it into a CrystalReportViewer 13 in Visual Studio 2010. (Web App)
When I run it though the next and previous buttons don't work correctly. It goes to page 2
ok but after that it wont move to page 3.
I can type in the page number and it will go to the right page.
If I'm on the last page and select the previous button it goes all the way back
to page 1.
Has anyone else come across this problem and perhaps solved it?

Interactive PDF buttons not always working

Hello,
My co-worker is using InDesign CS5 to make an interactive PDF. In the PDF the viewer can click an image, and an enlargement will appear and the background will have a 50% gray transparency.
What's odd is that on most pages the buttons work perfectly, while on a few other pages they do not at all (e.g. buttons do nothing, or no gray transparency appears, etc...).
We've reviewed the pages and everything seems to be in order. If she re-creates the page, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If we take the problematic page and copy/paste it into a new document the exported PDF works fine.
Any hints as to why sometimes the interactive features work as setup and why sometimes they don't? Is it possible we accidentally had a setting on specific pages that was causing the interactive features to malfunction?

The firs thing to do would be to export it to idml then open that in Indesign and give that a go. The fact that if you paste it into a new document it works means it may be document corruption. However it could also be something on that page or in the document that is interfering with it that is not in the new document. Something on a layer above that is hiding the button?

Bottom button is not always working.

If it intermittently works, then you either have to get it cleaned out or fixed. Back up your iPhone and take it into an Apple Store.

If it is one year old minus one day it is still under warranty. If it is more than a year since you purchased it then yes, the warranty has expired.
Millions of iPads have been sold. Most continue to function long after their warranty has expired. Check the many requests about updating the iOS on the original iPad on these forums and you'll see that there are many iPads still working after three years. My iPad 2, which I had for over two years is still working well for my son in law who took it over from me when I bought a new one.
Given that there will always be a few iPads that fail early. Most of those will be covered under warranty. But some will fail after the warranty has expired and before the owner expected it to. I'm sorry to hear that you are in this category. Take your iPad to an Apple store and have it looked at. They will provide you with alternatives, one of which is to purchase a like model to the one that failed at a discount. You can then know your options and make the best choice for you.

Apple answer is - no answer. It is a shame that the quality of their products, in terms of design and concept, is not match by a care for customers. It is not normal that I, as a customer, have to spend hours reading Apple Discussions forum to try to understand what the problem is. A little more respect for a customer that spend big $$$ buying their products wouldn't hurt.

Apple, as I said, does not repair your iPhone. All hardware service issues are handled by replacing the unit. So they can't handle the home-button issue without also addressing the issue of the cracked screen, for which they'll almost certainly charge you. But you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple tech support and plead your case.

Iphone 4 home button not working, called never fixed, then cracked screen before bringing it back again, will they blame the cracked screen if i bring it back?

I bought an iPhone 4 less than a year ago, then one day the home button randomly stopped working, I bought the warranty so I decided to call in and see what was wrong with it. The girl said that restoring the phone would correct the problem which it did. But it is only a temporary fix, it happens more often now. So I was meaning to call in soon, but the other day my phone fell out of my pocket IN CASE from a foot height and cracked the screen. I nearly threw up. All the years I have had a phone I have never cracked or broken one, strongest screen my ***. Anyway, if I contact them again now will they fix the home button problem? or will they say that the cracked screen is obviously the cause of the home button not working? which it is not!! I don't care about the screen being cracked its not on the actual screen just on the side so its irrelevant to me. Plus I heard it is outrageosly pricey to replace.

IPhone Home Button not working after upgrade to ios 5.1.1

Hey everyone,
I'm pretty sure this is a software failure due to the symtoms the iPhone is showing;
0 - the home button does not work at all when the phone is turned on and running ios 5.1.1, well it used to work okay when i had ios 5.0.1, I upgraded to 5.1.0 and started working randomly, upgraded to 5.1.1 to see if it was fixed with no luck at all.
1 - When locked the screen does sometime light up, like when you press the home button and don't slide the unlock button. but it does not exit apps anytime, I mean it doesn't act like it's pressing the home button randomly but only when the phone is locked.
2- The button does work perfectly when iOS is not running: I can get in and get out of recovery and dfu mode at will, that wouldn't be possible if the button were broke.
3- what else? Oh yea, not really a symtom: Tried the 'home button calibration' several times.
4 - It's not filthy, since I really cleaned it thoroughly with a powerful tiny nozed air blower I got and gave a rubbing alcohol treatment too.
5 - when I shut the phone down it instantly turns back on, I can interrupt the turning on for turning the phone into dfu mode (i'm sure It's in DFU mode because the tinyumbrella log monitor tells me)
I'm now using the 'soft' home button that goes in the accesibility options, but hey, I didn't pay a ton of money for a phone that the same Apple is gonna break down.
It's out of warranty and I don't have apple stores where I live.
I'd downgrade to 5.0.1 in a snap if I could but I'm not into jailbreaking, so the shsh blob thingie is not a possibility.
Any apple dev around that can give me a workaround?

I had the same problem with Home button not responding after upgrading from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPhone4.   I solved it but not sure exactly what fixed it.   Here is what I did.
1. Took it local Apple store Genius appointment.   They used a special tool and took some lint out of the connector opening.   The Home button started working.   They said even though the phone was out of warranty, I could buy a new replacement one without a contract for $150.
2.   The Home button stopped working when I got home.   I got some compressed air in a can and blew the air through the connector to try and clean out more dust.   I now keep the phone with the connector opening facing down in my pocket.   I also struck the phone downward on my hand or other soft surface to force as much dust out as possible.
3. The Home button still was intermittent. I then tried to do a hard reset by holding the power on key and the Home button simultaneously for about 10 seconds. This doesn't work if the Home button doesn't respond.
4. I connected the iphone to Itunes via the USB to sync the phone. While connected, I did a Hard Reset by Holding the Power button and Home button simultaneously. I noticed the Home button responded better when connected to ITUNES via the USB.
5. I did a backup of the iphone4 by highlighting the iphone 4 while connected to ITunes and right mouse click and selecting BACKUP.    I was prepared to reset my phone4 in iTUNES and restore it from the backup.
The phone worked consistently before I had to do this.
6. As a last resort which I didn't need to do, I was going to copy all my settings for the iphone by selecting the phone in iTUNES and looking at all the sync settings.   I would then have restored the iphone to original factory settings and then sync the phone using the copied settings. This would have made sure that the backup didn't include the bug.
Fortunately, I didn't have to do step 5 and 6.   Things started working after Step 4. So I don't really know if it was the iOS 5.1.1 upgrade or pure coincidence that the Home button stopped working immediately after the upgrade.
