Home button response after 8 sec after IOS5. so is it hardware or software issue ?

Please help. My ipone 4 is just out of warranty. was working fine with 4.33. once upgraded to ios 5 . it slowed to 4-5 secs. I did a reset and restore it becomes worse.
Now phone is alomost useless , kind of disappointing coming from an expensive apple phone. So is it  hardware or software issues ??

At this point, it's hard to say, but I'm not inclined to think hardware.
Have you tried a SMC reset?
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
This might be relevant for the Mac not going to sleep.
Have you verified the disk and repaired if necessary?
Have you tried resetting the PRAM?

You might also try the steps in this article:

My recollection--which may or may not be right--is that repairing the disk may cure the spotlighting problem. The other steps I mentioned are just general things that are often done when troubleshooting.
Try repairing the hard drive, and post back if that doesn't cure the problem.
Good luck!

  • Home button unresponsive after iOS 7.1 update (iPhone 5)

    Hi,
I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 on Monday. But today (Thursday) my home button suddenly unresponsive. The phone had been working normally until now when I was on FaceTime and tried to view my home screen but couldn't.
Turning the phone off/on doesn't fix it. Once I turn off the phone and turn it back on, I can see the homepage and enter any app but I can't escape that app without shutting down the phone again.
Also, there is no damage to the phone/home button in any way (physical, water, etc.) I can't reset the phone because, you know, the home button won't respond.
How can I remedy this?  Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the same problem and kept playing around with the phone and doing internet searches. This seems to have fixed the problem.  I went to Settings, General, Accessibility and then Home-Click Speed. I changed from Default to Slow.

  • Home button response is slow at times!

I recently purchased iphone 4 in Chennai, India and I love it. But recently upgraded to ios5 as well but I am experiencing home button is very slow in responding at times. What to do?

Speedtest.net is all you should really need.
You can use this and check the performance drop to see where you're losing all the throughput.
Check with just the modem firstly, then keep expanding from there and monitor progress.

  • How do I get an iPod touch to turn on other than the normal way. It has been dropped and all I can get is a blank screen. Have tried holding the HOME button down for 30 sec. but that didn't work.

How does one get an iPod nano to turn on other than the "normal" way? This one has been dropped and all I can get is a blank screen. I have tried holding down the HOME button to restart it but no go. When I connect it to my computer, I am told to enter the PASSCODE which I cannot do as there is no touchpad.

    David ..
Your topic refers to an iPod touch
Then you say:  How does one get an iPod nano to turn on ......
If it's an iPod touch, try a reset.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, whether it's an iPod nano or touch, it probably needs service >  Apple - Support - Service Answer Center

  • Home Button - Responsive Issues

    Hi folks,
Over the last few weeks I've been having a problem with the Home button. It almost seems to me like the phone is "busy" and unresponsive, as when pressing the home button nothing happens. Then a few seconds later I can press again and it reacts.
The phone can be fine for days, and then it suddenly starts happening again. A reset doesn't seem to help.
Is this a known firmware issue, or more likely to be a hardware failure?
    TIA

  • Button gone after ios5 update

Where did the button that opened all safari pages go after iOS 5 update?

Safari now uses tabs to open new pages. That feature for the open windows no longer exists. Tap on the + sign at the right side of the toolbar to open a new tab and you can enter the web address in the url bar or use the seach field to find whatever you are looking for.

  • Email account and Internet service not working after migration onto a new (upgraded 3rd party) 2012 MBP. Hardware or software issue.

I just purchased a refurb Mac Book Pro from the Apple on-line store. When I received the machine (serial number)  I purchased 3rd party (OWC) parts. All of these were installed by the authorized, local Apple repair store I have had excellant results with past issues with my 2006 MBP. The parts installed are: 16 meg ram, 240 SSD and a 1 T installed replacing the optical drive.
Feeling ready now, I had the Apple store do the migration from my 2006 MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.8) over to the 2012.
When trying to get the new machine into the production flow, I cannot get email to work. It will launch but I cannot access accounts.
During the One to One, then moved over to the Genius Bar appointment, they reentered the account(s) data. Nothing.
Also at this time they noticed that the Internet connection was not working.
A new internet account was set up and it worked. They (Genius) launched email and the Internet connection crashed. This was repeated about 5 times.
The computer was left with Apple to reinstall the OS (10.8) - their best suggestion as a fix and I have now had a call to say that the install did not correct the problem. Now they are questioning the install of the 3rd party parts as the possible problem.
I'm to go back into the Apple store to discuss the next steps.
I would really, really appreciate anyones thoughts / suggestions on this problem. Is it software or hardware? Should I re-install the original ram and 500 m hard drive to start over with the migration? I'll be honest here and state - I'm not a technician in computers or this side of technology. That is why I have reliable parties do the install and trouble shoot. Not a comfortable feeling being at their mercy.
Advanced thanks to all who believe they have answers.

Back from the Apple store with my 2012 MacBook Pro.
After one re-install of the OS - no better - a clean install was performed - purging all of the data that they had migrated over from my 2006 MBP last week.
The belief is, that the migrated data from my 2006 MBP was too great of a leap for the new 10.8. My (a lot) software was too dated and there in was a "blip" of some sort in some / one of the programs.
So - all of the OWC parts and pieces that I had installed are not the issue - as they all show up on the About this Mac - and other things are functional. Yeah.
I now have my 2012 back (with upgrades) in the original form (OS and programs) and I will start a one by one migration of programs that I do need and use. Being cautious not to make one large transfer.... weeding out programs that will no longer be needed or will work on the OS 10.8. I will manually set up the email accounts one by one.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Home button not working after installed ios5! Anyone has such problem?

Just installed ios5 and found home button doesn't work. Anyone has such problem and resolution?

1.Unlock it, open an application and hold down the Lock / Power slider appears on the screen until the closing device.
2.Take a handful of Lock button, lightly press the Home button and hold it down for 5-10 seconds until the menu disappears and the display shows that the Springboard.
3.This technique is a recalibration of the Home button and after they make everything should work normally without problems.

  • FAULTY HOME BUTTON AFTER 2.2

I have been having this problem when I hit the home button right after I updated to 2.2 its been like if it had a software delay problem, but its gotten worst and worst, over the months of its new update release, so i decided to give it a restore, well that got it worst, then it did a complete erase and guess what that got it to point where the home button doesn´t even work anymore there is a huge bug on the new 2.2 release with the home button I hope apple get it fix. because I never had a problem with this ipod touch first gen till now with the update since 2.0

I could tell you this if it happen just right after the guarantee, or if it is still in guarantee you still have the possibility to get a new ipod if you live in the states go to the apple store and talk to a genius if this is the case then you have the right to replace it for a new one, I just had mine died out on me right after a year of use which is what apple give as to guarantee mine had a year and two months but all **** broke lose when I upgraded to 2.1, its been giving me problems with the home button, so I went to the shop where I got it in spain and they had it check and I was told that the home button is faulty physically, and that I needed to talk to apple to get an extension guarantee and they are going to replace it for me.
On the second hand watch out with the screen also when I took off the iSkin screen protector and silicon cover, I wipe it clean with the cloth and I think something was in the cloth that scratch the top of the screen where it is black, not on top of the middle of the screen and guess what it had just gotten a minor gouge which something was in the iPod touch black cloth while I try to clean all finger prints and slanted it slightly to see if the screen was clean and saw a curvy swigle line that wouldn´t go away and yes it had some deep little gouge so watch out people the glass on all ipod touch and iphone are not scratch proof.

  • HT201322 iPod home button not working

Hi my iPod touch 4 GEN home button is not working, I have tried everything it said to fix it like hold the top button to peer it off but then hold the home button for 10-15 sec until it goes back to the home screen which worked but right after that, when I go to a app, the home button will instantly stop working. What should I do? Get a the new iPod  5 or any ways to fix it.

I'd take it back - especially if you bought it recently.  Most of the time they're REALLY NICE about taking care of the products.
If they find that it's because of misuse though, you're on your own

  • The home button is not working on my iPhone 4

My home button has not been working for ages. It works about once every 10 clicks. It feels like it has something stuck under it. Please help! It is really annoying.

Method 1: Calibrate (and possibly restore)
If you're lucky, your slow-to-respond home button is due to a software glitch. To find out, you'll need to calibrate your home button. Here's how:
Open up a stock app, like the Clock. Hold down the sleep button until "Slide to power off" appears. When it does, let go of the sleep button and hold down the home button. After about 5-10 seconds, the app will close.
If this solved your problem, you are one lucky iPhone owner. If it didn't you may want to try restoring your iPhone before continuing to the second method.
Method 2: Realign the docking port
There is a chance that through normal wear and tear, your phone's docking port got misaligned, moving the home button along with it. Although a repair shop might suggest you replace the home button, this YouTuber offered a different solution.
Plug a USB cable into your iPhone. Then, gently push down on the 30-pin connector, so that it pushes up behind the home button. While you apply the pressure, click the home button. Remove the cable, and see if that fixed the problem.
Method 3: Clean the home button
A splash of soda, sticky hands, dirt in the bottom of your purse or pocket -- any of these things can damage your iPhone's home button.
For this fix, you'll need 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which can be found at hardware stores. Using a cotton swab, eye dropper, or tissue, apply 2-3 drops of the isopropyl alcohol directly to the home button, avoiding the screen. Then, with a narrow, dull object (like the eraser on the back of a pencil), repeatedly tap the home button so that the alcohol seeps into the frame.
Wipe clean, and wait about 10-15 minutes before checking to see if that did the trick.
Method 4: Enable the on-screen home button
If the previous three methods did not work, it sounds like perhaps you have a completely defunct home button. In this case, your home button's connectors may have been misaligned and would require professional repair. (Or, if you're willing to brave it, iFixit shows you how to DIY.)
The good news is, you can still use your phone using its on-screen home button. Normally, this is used as an accessibility option, but it's also a common solution for those with non-functioning home buttons.
To enable the on-screen home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you'll see a small circle appear on screen.
Tapping that circle gives you four options: Home, Siri, More (for things like multitasking and playback controls), and Favorites. In your case, ignore Favorites, but tap this on-screen button whenever you need to access your home screen, activate Siri, or get all the options you'd normally see when you double-tap the home button.
If the on-screen home button ever gets in the way, simply tap and hold to drag it anywhere else along the frame of your screen.
It's hardly an ideal solution, but it'll hold you over until you're ready to purchase a new phone or get your current one fixed.

  • Home button on iPad rMini takes 2 tries to work.

I have a replacement retina iPad mini.  I got it in January, 2014 after shattering the screen in my original. After a month or so I noticed he home button didn't always respond, but the instances were few at the onset.  This is getting progressively worse.  Now it takes 2 solid pushes for it to register.  Although it is very useable now, I feel it will continue to get worse.  The iPad is not damaged in any way.
Anyway, I have AppleCare and was wondering if anyone thought that Apple may replace it at no charge (which I feel they should) or if they are going to charge me the fee AppleCare charges for a replacement unit. if they charged me, that would be my second strike against 3 replacements.
has anyone had experience with home button issues and AppleCare?
    Thoughts?

I guess I spoke too soon. One day has passed since I tried this fix, and although it seemed to fix my problem at first, I have had 2 nonresponsive touches since that point in time. So maybe it's a combination of hardware and software issues but it is still definitely present.
So back to my original question,
Do you think that Apple care will charge me or will take care of this at no charge - Anyone?

  • Iphone 6 double tap home button freeze

I've just switched from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 and have everything restored.  But notice that when i double tap the home screen to access other apps, the screen freezes for at least 2 secs before i may swipe anything.
This did not happen when i was using my iPhone 5 with iOS 7 and this is particularly frustrating after an upgrade in both hardware and software.  i thought it was lack of memory but this happens even when i have no app running and there's still 30 odd G of free space in my phone.
So is this a bug yet to be fixed or is it just my phone?
    thanks,
    Bryan

after using the new phone for two days the problem has gone.

  • Home Button Functions

Before the iOS4 Update, I could press the home button twice to bring up my iTunes.
Now when you push the home button twice (after updating to iOS4) it brings up the multitask bar.
How do I switch my song without opening the iPod app??
btw...can you back up two iphones on one comp?

It would be helpful if Apple were to allow for customization of the home button. The double press for multi-tasking, and triple-press for accessibility are fine, but how about a quadruple-click to lock the phone rather than having to wait for the phone to auto-lock after a minute? How about simply allowing an option for customization of the home button in Settings? That would be very helpful and true to the old Apple concept of user control over the Mac! Customization has always been one of the attractive features of Macs, and the iPhone operating systems are no different.
