Home button unresponsive

My Home button on my Ipod touch is not working. It feels like its stuck. I have tried pressing it repeatedly, and re-booting the ipod and no help. Can anyone help me?

My iphone 3G's home button and general phone operation went haywire since hte latest firmware update from Apple through i-tunes. I'm wondering wether this is a coincidence, or bad luck. My phone is very new and well under warranty. I took it to my local Vodaphone store at Menai (NSW) and they said that I have to pay! to get it sent off for inspection under warranty???? I think it was like $38 from memory... My phone is in mint condition, not even swirl marks on the back. And looks brand new, and is always very well treated.. (it 'was' my pride and joy) I got the phone sent off for inspection last week (after paying my fee... even though it's under warranty??) and i have not heard anything since... and I have no phone to use in the mean time.. I'm a big apple supporter.. and have numerous mac laptops and converted many windows users to mac (acutally I converted a person in my office last week before my phone died and i'm helping her setup her mac mini today.. "shrug")... but If they don't come back with a new or fixed iphone for me and refund the $38 fee, then i'll never go mac again... I've had enough....
I'll let you know how it pans out..

  • Home button unresponsive after iOS 7.1 update (iPhone 5)

    Hi,
I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1 on Monday. But today (Thursday) my home button suddenly unresponsive. The phone had been working normally until now when I was on FaceTime and tried to view my home screen but couldn't.
Turning the phone off/on doesn't fix it. Once I turn off the phone and turn it back on, I can see the homepage and enter any app but I can't escape that app without shutting down the phone again.
Also, there is no damage to the phone/home button in any way (physical, water, etc.) I can't reset the phone because, you know, the home button won't respond.
How can I remedy this?  Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the same problem and kept playing around with the phone and doing internet searches. This seems to have fixed the problem.  I went to Settings, General, Accessibility and then Home-Click Speed. I changed from Default to Slow.

  • Home button unresponsive due to Mail?

I've recently started to notice that my home button has been a little unresponsive. Sometimes a single click won't work at all and it takes a few tries to get it to quit an app. Someitmes two clickes does what one click is supposed to do, sometimes it just doesn't work the way it's supposed to. A firm double tap that is slightly spaced out seems to solve it, but here's the strangest thing that I discovered. I did a hard reset and it helped and everything was normal. Then I did a restore to a backup and it helped a little (I don't want to have to start over again with a fresh fresh install, I'll save it for iOS 5). I was experimenting quiting various apps to see what would happen, since it seems like it could help. Quiting out of intensive applications such as the app store or other apps that take up a lot of memory did nothing. What does fix it immediately is force quiting mail. I've tried it with the other Apple supplied applications and it did nothing. There are only two gmail accounts there so i'm not sure what could be the problem. Anyone else out there have this/heard of this/ have any advice?

    Hi everyone,
I also had the same problem like less than a month after I purchased my iPad 2. I used to think that it was due to the iOS update to 4.3.x, as I got mine out of the box with the version prior to that, and didn't have problems before I updated.
However, it could also be that the home button pad had accummulated oil/dirt from our thumbs, which get in the way of it working properly.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Turned off my iPad2.
    2. Wet my thumb with alcohol (not too wet, say a drop or two), and pressed down on the home button and rubbed the alcohol in in a circular motion. The idea is to let the alcohol break down the oil and dirt.
    3. Wiped the home button thoroughly with a clean cloth (i dont recommend tissue or cotton as it might leave residue that could again 'clog' the inside perimeter of the home button.
Before I did that, my home button was responding in around 1 click out of 20-30 tries. After cleaning, the home button now responds in 9 out of 10 presses.
Let us know if you try and find that this works for you as well.

  • IPod Touch Home Button unresponsive

This only started to get bad Monday. It started to be finicky about Sunday. The button isn't stuck; "clicks" like it should when pressed but the device is entirely unresponsive unless it's pressed and held to get ANY response whatsoever. Very frustrating. When pressed, it goes down fully without much pressure like it should and comes back "up" when released.
I don't know what to do or what even caused this. It *almost* seems like a software issue, since I recently updated to 6-point-whatever iOS for the Touch 4 and that was pretty recently.
I'll try using canned air on the button itself this weekend if there happens to be any sort of dirt underneath it.

  • Home Button Unresponsive + Airplane Error Message

Hi, i'm looking for a bit of help. This morning I woke up grabbed my iphone from the docking station and it had a message saying that...
"This accessory is not made to work with the iphone" then asks if i want to switch to airplane mode. Even if i hit no, it comes back later even if its docked or undocked. On top of that, the home button is unresponsive at times, i have to press it about four or five times for it to work. I havent dropped the phone in a while, and its not damaged and I have the latest software. Ive tried turning it off and back on, and ive tried ressetting it.
    Any Suggestions?

Make sure there is no lint or other foreign material in your iPhone's USB port. It may be a very small amount causing this problem.
If powering your iPhone off and on, and a Reset does not resolve it, the next step is a Restore. Be sure to sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before restoring to update your iPhone's backup if needed.
If a Restore does not resolve it, and there is no lint or foreign material found in your iPhone's USB port, give AppleCare a call (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • Home button unresponsive at times, also very loose?

My 3 month old iPad 2 starting acting up on Wednesday in terms of its home button. I noticed that it was unresponsive or I had to put more pressure on it than normal for it to work. I restarted my iPad, and then it seemed to work for about a day, then went back to being unresponsive or being VERY hard to click. I then called the complimentary 90 day over-the-phone tech support and the genius guided through me on what he called a Hard Reset. I did that, and now it seems to be working very fine (sometimes I might have to click it twice, but other than that it seems to be working). But now I have another problem. After doing the hard reset, my home button seems to be pushed down that you can even feel the glass, and it's very loose (if you put your two fingers on either side, you can literally rock it). Remember now, the home button is now like this because due to a "glitch", I had to put more pressure on the home button than usual. Now, I'm very annoyed on how the home button feels. Can I take it to a local apple store and have them fix it for free of charge (since I still have an active 9 month warranty?) Can they some how "tighten" the home button or make it like new (stiff, non-loose) again AT the store or does it have to be sent away? Can this even be fixed? Any useful response will be great!

If there is an Apple store nearby, make an appointment. If this is determined to be a hardware failure, your iPad will not be repaired, it will be exchanged under warranty at the store right then and there. Immediately before going to the store, update the backup for your iPad in case your iPad is exchanged under warranty.

  • Ios 5 home button unresponsive

so i got my iphone 4 the day they came out here in canada and havent had a problem with it
shortly after updating to iOS 5 the home button started to become unresponsive. at first it was just once or twice a day and slowly got worse over time.
i took it in to a local apple store and they took it apart and cleaned it but were unable to resolve the issue they did help me set up assistive touch so i could at least get out of apps and back to the home screen.
the iOS 5.01 came out after installing it the problem went away completely for about a week and then started to reapper
I just did a backup/restore and hope that will help for the time being.
has anyone else had this problem and if so are there any solutions

My iPad 1 has the same problem, but it did in iOS4, too— affects both orientations, but sometimes one more than the other. (Which one is worse switches back and forth over time, though!)   It started about one year in to owning the unit, maybe a little less.
Alarmingly, I found that if I applied some gentle pressure to the back of the iPad in a sort of "uneven" way (more pressure on one side than the other) it often fixd it for a while, until the next time I put it in my bag or leave it sitting for a while.  Could it be a hardware issue, that you just happened to notice now because upgrading made you place the iPad in a certain way or press the home button a lot more in a short period of time while playing with it?

  • Apple iPad 3rd Gen home button unresponsive

Home button becoming unresponsive sometimes. Over a year old so no longer in warranty.
Will Apple replace or what can I do?
Only unresponsive sometimes but I fear it will get worse...
    Emily

Enable AssistiveTouch which floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device:
    Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON
*Note* If your Sleep/Wake (power) button is not functioning and you power off the device using the AssistiveTouch panel (tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, Device>Lock Screen (tap and hold to power off)), you will NOT be able to power on the device with the Sleep/Wake (power) button (since it's not functioning). To power on the device in this case, you will need to connect the powered off device either to a PC's USB port or an external charger to power the device back on.

  • Ipad1 home button unresponsive

2 year old iPad 1 home button is getting more and more unresponsive - is this just wear and tear??

Has the home button been over used? If so, it might've worn out. in that case, go to SETTINGS and follow the following steps.
GENERAL >>> scroll down >>> ACCESSIBILITY >>> ASSISTIVE TOUCH >>> turn it in.
this will act as your home button and prodive you with other options so you do not wear your buttons out.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Ipad2 Home button unresponsive

    Hi,
In the past week I have noticed that when I press on the Ipad2 home button, it is unresponsive but only occationally. I sometimes have to press it over 5 times for it to exit to the Home screen. I have tried a hard reset as well as a normal ""turn off".
Anyone knows if this is a hardware or software issue? Anyone else has the same problem?
    Thanks

I have the same issue. I have noticed that mine only does it when I am in the Mail application. Does yours do it in any other App?

  • Home Button Unresponsive on my iPhone4

Recently I have been experienceing slow and mostly unresponsiveness with the home button on my iPhone4. Is anyone else having this same issue? If so, what did you do to correct the issue?

There have been occassional reports of home button problems with iDevices.  If you have done the usual power off/on, and reset operations, without change, then it is a good idea to stop by an Apple genius bar and have it checked out.

  • HT4528 home button unresponsive, load screen, speaker

my one year warranty just expired when all these problems started happening. i've treated my iphone 4 well. in the beginning of April my screen when it's on sleep like loads. it starts from the top of the screeen and loads very slowly all the way down. you know it's happening because it changes colors. then one of the speakers only work.. i don't know if it's suppose to be like that but yeah, also the home button takes 10 trys to get a response 90% of the time. is there any way to fix any of this. i got my iphone a year a 2 months or so ago. so the year warranty just expired. but i just found out Apple would take care of it, well remembered. had to many family problems going on to focus on it, but yeah. is there any way to fix it or get a new device? with all these problmes i'm thinking of getting away from apple. everything i own is apple electronice wise. this is ******* me off. help please.

You might wanna try a hard reset:
There is not such thing as a "hard reset" with the iPhone.
A reset is pressing and holding the home (there is no menu button) and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.
For the OP, if basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide which is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new) fails to clear up the issues, then it's time to take the device to Apple for evaluation.
An Out of Warranty replacement in the US is $149 for the iPhone 4.

  • Home Button unresponsive ect ect...

Hello. this is the 3rd time my iPhone 4 has frozen. The screen goes blank, as if it were locking, and if you hit the home button nothing happens. The power button won't turn it off or bring the screen back. I have to press the home and power button to restart it. Will this be fixed anyone think? Usually happens when I sent a video, or multiple texts in a row.

Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup as well as photos and videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer and photos/videos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup and your iPhone alone for this data which can be lost or stolen.
If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup which stores a significant amount of different data, restoring with iTunes from your iPhone's backup will also restore the problem.
If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, this does not prevent you from restoring from the backup afterwards. If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • HT201412 Home button unresponsive

My home button is intermittent.  Requiring pressing it 3-5 times to change screens.  Is this a common problem with iPad2?

    Calibrate Home Button
    1. Open a stock application like Calendar, Weather or Youtube
    2. Hold down the power button until the "slide to power off" control appears
    3. As soon as you see it, press the Home button and keep it pressed until the red slider disappears and the app is forced quit to the Home menu
