Home Calendar Server. Need Access via Wan & Lan

Hi,
I have just setup my new Mac Mini server 10.8.2. I have configured DNS, DDNS (via no-ip), Open Directory and the Calendar Server. I want to be able to access calender info on my iPhone and MBP at home and on the road. I can access the Calender server from home using myserver.domain.com but this does not work when i´m off my LAN. I can access the calender server on the WAN using domain.com. Is there a way to configure DNS, so that i can use one server address for both LAN & WAN access?
This has been driving me nuts for a fair few hours now, so thought i´d just ask someone that might know...
Thanks in advance.

I am struggling with the same issue. I think I found the answer, but I have not yet tested it.
My setup is a mini server connected to a Time Capsule to connect to the internet. Time Capsule is set up to let Contacts and Calendar information.
My domain name is updated through a DNS service.
If your domain name is registered for DNS as domain.com (A Record), you may need to add a new hostname to your DNS service, creating a new A record, server.domain.com.
From what I read, this is the most likely issue with the problem you have described. I have been struggling with this for the past few days. I just need to get outside my wifi coverage to see if adding the new A record has fixed it.
Hope this helps.

  • Document access via WAN in portal

    Hi,
I have the following problem. I have installed portal with KM in place A and some users are in place B. Both places are connected via WAN (1Mbit/s). Users in place B have some documents stored in there LAN so they can access them relatively quickly. But they would like to use functionality of KM. When I move their documents to the portal they will access these files over WAN connection. Is there some alternative solution? (users can navigate to the document via portal but than they download them from LAN). Can this be solved by WebDAV or Web repository manager?
    Thanks a lot,
    Zdenek

    Hi Praskah,
thanks for help but I would like to avoid network traffic between two WAN locations. Imagine that you have 10MB file on network A on some WebDAV server for example that is in network A too. Portal resides in network B which is conntected with network A via 1mbit/s connection. Webdav repository is connected to this portal. I suppose that if you want to download your document from portal you must firstly transfer it from network A to network B (to the portal) and then from network B to network A again (to your desktop).
My question is: Can I avoid described useless network traffic and download document directly from network A?

  • Server Admin not connecting to Leopard Server when accessing via VPN

    Hi everyone,
Recently, as the title suggests, Server Admin (or Server Preferences, for that matter) would not connect to my remote server via VPN. I'm quite sure that the server is working nicely, as the users (both of them lovely young ladies with considerable charms, which makes on-site support quite interesting, if distracting) didn't call me to complain, and I can login via SSH with no problems.
The server is a Mac Mini, connected to an Airport Extreme (gigabit N), which in turn connects to our ADSL modem, if that helps any.
Now, I did tinker around a bit with the settings before this happened, so I think it's probably my fault (well, I started my "career" of administering this server a week ago, what do you expect), so I suppose I may have inadvertently limited access to a service required for Server Admin and Server Preferences to function.
If anyone could tell me which services are absolutely necessary for Server Admin to function, or at least where to start looking, I'd be immensely grateful. I didn't yet go on site to try and wrestle the whole thing from there, as the travel costs are non-trivial, so I'd rather do it remotely, if at all possible.

This is exactly the difficulty I am having with a 10.5.4 Intel xserve. I have established a VPN connection that connects me to my business LAN, and I know it has carried out the connection because there are a number of things I can access properly that are not available on the public internet. For instance, my LOM ports are restricted to my business LAN, and when I connect to the server via VPN I can access teh LOM ports and using server monitor. However, when I try to use Server Admin, nothing works. It won't connect. I too am confused. All traffic to the xserve is allowed via the business LAN. I thought all traffic was supposed to be routed to the VPN server when connected via a VPN. If this is the case, shouldn't Server Admin work? When I go on site and connect my computer directly to the business LAN, I have no difficulty using Server Admin.

  • Web server only accessible via intranet lan.. help!

This is really making me nuts, and my brain is dry at the moment. I have reinstalled my Leopard Server twice, and I don't manage to solve this. It was working before upgrading to Leopard, so I don't know what the catch is.
I set up a couple of websites via SA, as always. And I can only access them from our internal network (192.168.1.100, the server's IP) and from our fixed IP address (80.39.112.16) only when we are in the same lan. If you open 80.39.112.16 or the domain name www.i-publishingservices.com, DNS hosted at Network Solutions, it does not open.
It is not a firewall issue (I have all web ports open and it does not work with the firewall deactivated either) and I don't think it is a router thing, as it was working before. The router has NAT translation on, and serving all ports to 192.168.1.100, the server's internal IP.
Any ideas? Maybe it has to do with our internal DNS? We've never used the DNS service...Maybe there should be a www user in the Workgroup Manager? I am really lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Chema.

If appears there is a Leopard Server firewall here, and a second and outboard and NAT-capable firewall here, but only the configuration of the latter is mentioned. Anything interesting in the Leopard Server firewall logs?
If this is dual-NIC box (eg: an up-rated Mac Pro box or an Xserve), this could easily be a local IP configuration issue on the box.
As for some additional tests, here are the classics:
dig -x ipaddr - from inside and outside your network.
traceroute ipaddr - from inside and outside your network.
Another test is to set up a real (test) web server at the external static address, and see if that works; start eliminating pieces from the puzzle. This would eliminate the NAT layer, for instance.
The domain does resolve to the specified IP address from out here, both the example.com domain and the www.example.com host resolve to the specified address. So this does look local; router, firewall, NAT, etc.
I've learned to trust all "it was working before" statements after applying appropriate verification, and to occasionally use a second set of eyeballs to make sure I've entered the IP addresses correctly.

  • Airport Extreme HD access via WAN

When I had my MacBook Pro, i would go to school, and i noticed that i was still able to access my hard drive that was connected to the Airport Extreme.  For some reason, with my new setup, i am unable to do this anymore.  I know whatever i did the first time couldnt have been to difficult, or i wouldn't have done it.
There was no setup, or passwords or anything... i just went to class, opened my laptop, and in the finder column, there was "Airport Extreme". I clicked it and there was all my movies and files.
If anyone knows the seamless way to do this, it would be wonderful. I'm not to keen on having to enter information everytime i want access to something, hence the reason i bought all Apple products in the first place, because everything just worked.
Any insight would be wonderful. Thanks in advance for your time.
    Josh

The only way I know that this would have been that "seamless" would be via Back to My Mac (BtMM). BtMM would have required that you had either a MobileMe or iCloud account. Does this sound familar?

  • BPC 7M SP04 - app. server need SAN access?

For PRD, we intend to split up our BPC 7M SP04 configuration into 2 servers - DB and App. server
Will the app. server need access to the SAN? ( what data does it store, and is it big )?
    Are these assumptions valid?
App. server needs to be 32 bit OS
DB server can be 64 bit OS
For DEV, we will have one server for all components. We assume this needs to be 32 bit OS with /PAE switch confitured?
    Thanks in advance .. Sanket

    Hi,
Having a SAN access for your Application Server is not mandatory but could be used to store the BPC Data folder (the one containing Webfolder directory which stores Excel template and logic file).
DB in 64 bits and APP in 32 bits is fine. Just check where you want to install SSRS component (on DB or App server).

  • Bonjour | WAN | LAN - Broadcast

This may turn out to be an RTFM and if so, please say so.
I have a private local network, with several macs - all previously hiding behind a Netgear WGT624v3.
I had the G4 AGP running OS X.4.10 on my private local network - not running OD (just sharepoints), it offered Software Update Services (SUS) (I used Software Update Enabler to point the clients to server.local:8080 for the updates). All worked fine.
I have now set up the Server X.4.10 as the DNS/DHCP/NAT for my network using the Gateway Assistant and additional ethernet PCI cards.
So the server is bridging the WAN/LAN.
My problem is that server.local:8080 address seems to be linked to the WAN, not the LAN - although serving from the LAN
    - I can reach the SUS via 192.168.2.1, the LAN router address, but not the Bonjour address.
I suspected a problem with the DNS, but server.local:80 takes about 120-180 seconds to find the http service and does.
    Server.local:8080 always times out.
I thought Gateway Assistant would be able to setup the services without needing additional steps - what else is needed?
There doe not seem to be any documentation on this issue.
    Any help appreciated.
    Powerbook G4 1.33 15, many G4 AGP's, etc.   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

If you're running NAT the firewall is also running and it's probably what's blocking Bonjour multicast DNS traffic.
    Found this here http://macenterprise.org/content/view/124/77/
    #Allow Rendezvous packets (mDNS Responder)
allow udp from any 5353 to any in via en0 keep-state
    #Multicast packet required by Rendezvous
allow ip from any to 224.0.0.251 out via en0 keep-state
Depending on the firewall rules in action (sudo ipfw list) you might also have problems with DNS lookups from LAN clients -> WAN DNS servers (ISP?).
If you have a DNS running in the server and you use it for LAN clients DNS lookups should work anyway...

  • How do I add Holidays to my Calendar Server?

How do I add Holidays to my Calendar Server?
    <p>
Adding Holidays to your Calendar Server is done via the Netscape
Calendar Client by going to the Edit|Holidays pull-down menu.
This option can only be accessed by those users who have been given
the admin rights to add holidays.
If you wanted to give "John Smith" admin rights to add holidays on
a Calendar Server with a node id of 10000, you would do the
    following:
o Login as 'root' or 'unison' to your Calendar Server.
    o Change directories to /users/unison/bin.
    o Run the command:
    uniadmrights -e "S=Smith/G=Bob" -hday -n 10000
Now the user John Smith can add/delete/modify holidays on the
    Calendar Server.

Include birthday in your contacts using the Contacts app.  Then in Calendar go to the list of calendars (touch the red Calendars at the mid bottom of the screen), scroll down until you find the Birthday calendar, and touch it so that it has a tick mark beside it.  Not only will the birthday show up every year, it will even tell you how old they are!

  • How do I keep my home calendar events from showing up in my work calendar (outlook)? I have my work e-mail on my phone and need to see the work calendar but I don't want personal appointments showing up on it, like drs. appointments, soccer games etc.

I want to keep my home and work calendars separate but be able to look at both on my phone. I don't want my personal appointments and events to show up on my work calendar, although it's fine if work events show up on my home calendar.  When I delete a personal appointment from my work calendar in Outlook, it disappears from my home calendar on my phone. When you say "use the same purchasing apple ID for both to share books/music apps"- will this allow him to see what apps I download on his ipod (don't want)? will this allow me to continue to see what apps/games he gets on his ipod, on my phone (do want)? and do I set those changes on both devices?
    To do this:
iPhone: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads:
         Music: ON
         Apps: ON
         Books: ON
iPod: Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads:
now you decide what he gets automatically.
He doesn't use game center, imessage, facetime or anything else (mainly just games, music and picture taking)- so does he really need his own apple id and email address? also- if he wants to start getting text messages, would i still have access to all of them if he has his own apple id? would i have access to them if he stays on my apple id?
Then he doesn't need an Apple ID.
    Switch in
    Settings > Messages >
         iMessage: OFF
Send & Receive > Apple ID: > sign out
Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime: OFF

  • Home media server for mac, that you can also get to remotely.  Any ideas?  I am out of space on my macbook pro hard drive and appletv.  Need some sort of media server for delivery to macs, ipods, ipads, etc.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I have been using my macbook pro as a home media server, hosting most content on the macbook with ipod touch, ipads, and appletv streaming/sharing content.  I have run out of space on both the macbook pro and the apple tv and am looking to moving the content to a home media server.  Any thoughts/suggestions?  I'd like something that I can access remotely too.  I have an old slingbox and also have a static IP address.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be most welcome!

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

  • Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms

My boss asked me this question today. I am pretty sure the answer is "no", but thought it better to throw it out to the crowd:
"Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms?"

Yes, this is possible using Oracle's Transparent Gateway. Check out the My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) document "How To Create A Form Based on SQL Server Table" (Doc ID: 564915.1) for all of the details. This document is based on Forms 10g (10.1.2.0.2) so you may need to upgrade your Forms version if you are not already at this version at a minimum.
    Hope this helps,

  • Calendar Server Virtual Domains Free Busy - Access Denied

    Version 6.3-11.01
I cannot get free busy to work with any domains but the default domain for the life of me.
The LDAP searches are going through and appear to be returning the correct values however on virtual domain calendars the following is returned:
    PRODID:-//Sun/Calendar Server//EN
    METHOD:PUBLISH
    VERSION:2.0
    X-NSCP-WCAP-ERRNO:28
    END:VCALENDAR
I looked at the aces for the calendars in question:
    Returns Free busy:
    @@o^a^r^g;@@o^c^wdeic^g;@^a^sf^g;@^c^^g;@^p^r^g
    Does Not return Free busy:
    @@o^a^r^g;@@o^c^wdeic^g;@^a^sf^g;@^c^^g;@^p^r^g
I have tried enabling and disabling anonymous calendar access to no avail.
Is there a bug in this version that prevents the return of the free busy information?

Is this free-busy across domains i.e. [email protected] attempting to see free-busy information for [email protected] or inter-domain searches?
Inter-domain searches, or non logged in anonymous searches.
What client are you using to check free-busy information (Calendar Express, UWC/CE, Convergence, Thunderbird + Lightning Plugin) and what version are you running?
I am attempting to get it to work with the outlook 2007 plugin version: 7.3-05.01
    Simply using the following:
    curl http://hostname:3080/get_freebusy.wcap?mail=user@defaultdomain&fmt-out=text/calendar&noxtokens=1
    Returns free busy
With hosted users I receive the access denied error. In outlook I receive an error: An error occurred reading Internet free/busy data. General Failure.
Does outlook require anonymous access to a calendar domain be enabled for get_freebusy?
    >
You also need to check the icsExtendedDomainPrefs: attribute for the domain:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4437/6n6jckqsu?a=view
I have tried using this to enable anonymous access to no avail.
    Thank you for your help!
