Home Connect - VM retrieval - incredible

I find it incredible to believe and hope someone can tell me what VZ tech support just told me aint so.
If I want to retrieve a VM message left on my Home Connect number and I am calling from a landline, I have to call my home connect number, wait for it to ring (and hope no one at home answers it) and when I hear my greeting, I can hit # and enter my password to get my messages.
This seems like a cave man approach.  Does VZ not have a generic VM retreival number for Home Connect users so that they dont actually have to ring their actual home connect number to retrieve VM???
The Ma Bells figured this out more than 15 years ago - is Verizon that inept??
By the way, I have a 5 bar signal and the call clarity on my Home Connect - SUCKS!
Thanks for letting me vent everyone.

Didn't even know voice mail was available through Ma Bell that long ago. They are light years ahead of Comcast as well. Both Verizon and Comcast must be inept.

  • I have a wireless home phone connect device. Can call out on it when dial tone present, but most times cannot receive calls since purchase. Anyone else having a  problem with their home connect device?

Have had Wireless Home Phone connect device refreshed and updated three times since I purchased it in September 2014. Last tech I worked with on it initialized an NRB to check the network. I checked the location of the tower, which is less than one mile up the hill with clear line of site. The device always has two antennas on it. The device is great when it does work, but most of the time it rings three times and then jumps to an automated message saying the person I am calling is not available. I've actually gone up there several times to try an fix the device, but always end up calling a Verizon tech who has me unplug it, pull the battery, and they do some network stuff and then we turn it back on and it works. After the last time on 10/02/14, I called it and got the message. I drove up there, 100 miles one way, and called it while standing in the room. Got the same message. I picked up the phone, heard a dial tone and dialed my phone and it range through. I hung that phone connected to the device and call it using my cell phone. It rang through. I went home and tried to call it the next day. Again it did not ring through and I got the message after three rings. I call another phone at the facility and had them call me on my mom's phone and it is fixed it again. The fix last for a day or two and then it's broken again, like it is today. If it's a network problem then it must be fairly close to the area because no matter what we do it fails again. So much for the 99.98% reliable. This thing is a piece of junk!
I purchased this device and put it on my plan so that my mother who we placed in a home at 96 years old would have a phone connection that she could use and wouldn't flip her out. My family and her family has not been able to faithfully connect with her at this critical time in her life. I am giving Verizon 10 more days to figure this out and then I am going to ask for a total refund not to mention how much time and travel I have put into this piece of junk. Either the home connect transceiver is broken or the network is broken. Why should I pay close to $70 for a service that has not worked more than several days out of 35 days? Also I have spent close to three hours on the phone with decent technical people, but it's my time. I should send Verizon a bill for every time I have gone up there to fix this device as well.
What perplexes me is that a regular cell phone would have sufficed, but because Verizon has to have a data connection that is not available on a regular phone and it was going to cost me $30/month, I decided to go with the home connect. Seemed like a nice solution for an older person who would have a hard time using a cell phone and keeping it charged. Plus after all the fees for getting it connected, it only cost $20/month. That would be a pretty good thing, IF IT WORKED....... The other thing that irks me is, why do I have to pay for a data connection when the cell phone Verizon originally provided can't even access the network. What ever happened to adding a phone line for $10 bucks\ month? All I wanted was a simple phone. She would not be able to use anything more complex and all she needs is a phone line period.
I have no problem paying for something that works and does what it should, but this is ridiculousness. The MTF on this device is somewhere around 1 to 2 days. Out of 365 days that's about a 96.5% failure rate....... Want my advice? Get ride of this device. It sucks and it's bad marketing.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Iphone 4s-when wifi is off and I am away from my home connection can I receive and send texts and text messages?  I want to keep my wifi off to limit data (email etc) to when I want to check it.  Cellular is roaming"voice only" it says. Can I get texts?

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings?  Or check voicemail.  I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email.  But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts.  So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time.  (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home.  (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home?  My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home.  Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home?  Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages.  I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed?  So do I need wifi on to receive texts too?  Thank you - GregorySC

    Hello GregorySC,
In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages

  • Home Connect not ringing on incoming calls

I have a Home Connect that was working well until January.  Now callers often don't get through.  The get a number of rings and the a "Caller Unavailable" message.  I don't have Verizon Voicemail.  I have voice equipment of my own.  Once this starts, it seems to last.   If, however, I make on outbound call (outbound calls always work), following incoming calls works for awhile.  We have tried *228 many times, cancel call forwarded, etc.   All the things anyone can think of.  I am an IT engineer so I think I understand troubleshooting technology.
I have had a number of trouble tickets on this.  VZW says the "calls are getting through" but my unit isn't ringing.   We have replaced the phone and then this week replaced the Home Connect box.  No joy.  I have tried every troubleshooting idea I can think of.   Service says they haven't seen this before but I think this is the same problem many people have reported with voicemail being left even though there was no ring.  I just don't have voicemail enabled.  Incoming calls are not completing correctly.
There is some basic problem here with the unit not properly getting the call or not ringing the phone.   The is VERY frustrating and I have missed important calls.   Again, outbound always works and I have 2 bars on the display.   Also, this just seemed to start in January.
How do I get to the bottom of this and this this fixed?
    Frustrated,
    Scott

There have been at least 3 trouble tickets on the number.  The most recent one should be the most complete.   I just return from vacation and my first call to the home number failed this morning.  This is REALLY FRUSTRATING.  Please help.
    Thanks,

    Has anyone seen this before?
I just installed Sun Update Manager on a E250 running Solaris 10. I tried registering using the Wizard, but when I chose the "Apply updates manually" button, then Finish, I get the message: System registration failed; exiting application

  • Smpatch analyze: Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip:

I get the following error when I run smpatch analyze:
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: Connection reset
I was successfully able to register the system, but keep getting this error with smpatch analyze. I snooped the traffic and saw packets to & from getupdates1.sun.com on port 443, so there is not a firewall problem.
Did I miss a step in the installation?
    Thanks

Looks like the root cause (to me at least) is confusion between the contracted support server and the public updates server. They appear not to be the same...
Since late September all my Sol 8 "smpatch" clients were broken, giving me "Response code was 500" because the LPS / Update Connection Proxy was set to https://getupdates1.sun.com/ which is apparently the public site. ( https://getupdates.sun.com/ didn't work either.)
My Solaris 10 clients were working fine through the LPS, however - or so I thought.
When I just noticed that the patchpro.patch.source on Solaris 8 with 124270-01 is showing https://updateserver.sun.com/solaris/ as the default, I tried that as the LPS patch source URL, and now everything works again - for the first time in weeks.
Disclaimer: We are a support contract customer, so I don't know if this info applies to everyone. My LPS has been registered (has "entitlement") since I set it up in February, so it was a complete surprise that Solaris 8 smpatch clients started failing even after I put 124270-01 on the client and 121118-08 on the Sol 10 LPS.
    Hope this helps...

  • Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip

I just completed a patch upgrade on the Solaris 10 machine that runs our local patch
server. It needed several hundred patches, as it hadn't been patched since September.
After that, the behavior of our Solaris 10 patch clients has changed. For example, on one
client a few days earlier `smpatch analyze' had reported 218 patches. Now it reports only
    these three:
119255-27 SunOS 5.10_x86: Install and Patch Utilities Patch
121119-08 SunOS 5.10_x86: Sun Update Connection System Client 1.0.8
119789-07 Synopsis: SunOS 5.10_x86: Sun Update Connection Proxy 1.0.9
Our clients currently use `http://xxxxxx.yyyy.tld:3816/solaris/' as their patch source.
Dropping the `solaris/' results in this error, complete with HTML tags, from
    `smpatch analyze':
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: <h1>/ Not Found</h1><p>The resource identified by / could not be found.</p>
With the original patch source, `smpatch update' does apply the three patches. The
next `smpatch analyze' reports that no patches are required, which is certainly
incorrect! By dropping the `solaris/' again, `smpatch analyze' reports 221 patches.
Suddenly, patching has become a very complicated process. We have to patch,
change the patch source, and patch again. There's no longer a way to use the installed
`smpatch' to obtain a list of required patches or to download them all. What can be
    done to solve this problem?

You should only need to change the patch source this one time for each Solaris 10 client (Solaris 9 clients still use the "solaris/" source), in future you should not have a problem.
By patching the local patch server, the Sun Update Connection Proxy sofware has been upgraded to a newer version which now serves patches for Solaris 10 clients from the location 'http://xxxxxx.yyyy.tld:3816/'. This source is compatible with clients at a patch level of 121119-08 or greater, hence the 3 patches still available at `http://xxxxxx.yyyy.tld:3816/solaris/' allow for this level to be reached for clients on older revisions.

  • Home connect speaking volume too loud

I recently purchased Home connect.  I have 3 bars of signal.  The speaking volume is so loud that the audio is breaking up and severly distorted.  We purchased new high end Panasonic cordless phones-same problem.  The corded phone sounds the same.  I went through the ##1 process and set the level to 1.  I think this changes the listening volume not the speaking volume.  It did not change the symtoms.  Not sure where to go from here.
    Thanks for any thoughts

  • Outlook 2010 Client - "unable to connect to retrieve additional data" for some Distribution lists

We have a mix of Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 clients in our organization.
Users with an outlook 2010 client are having issues with a number (not all) of our distribution lists.
Issues: When selecting a distribution list in the new message 'to' fiedl, a 'message tip' appears with the name of the DL and 'contains xx recipients'.
However, when attempting to expand the DL (selecting the + sign) the following prompt appears "Cannot perfrom the requested operation. The command selected is not valid for this recipient. The operation failed"
When selecting the DL through the outlook address book the memberlist is empty and has a mail tip "unable to connect to retrieve additional data".
The DL's were all created in a 2003 environment.
We are currently setting up a 2010 environment, and all DL's were created prior to any schema updates etc.
Of note, users experience the issue, but access the list through OWA don't have the issue.

Please also perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on the problematic machine for a test.
    2. Remove the Outlook profile completely and create a new profile.
    3. Login on the same mailbox by Outlook 2010 on another machine to check the result.
If the issue persists, please open Event Viewer and check whether any error message exists. If so, please post it here for research.
    Thanks.

  • Home connect beeps before dial tone...

Installed the Home Connect for my mother - when you pickup the receiver, you hear 4-5 attempts to connect to a dial tone - then it connects. It is a continuous pickup & hangup clicking before the dial tone actually sounds.
This is a problem for when people call in... it hangs up on them or will give lots of static. It is horrible - my mother is too old to understand what is happening to her phone. I have invested the $100 and a 2yr contract only to have her so frustrated (me too) that she is wanting to throw it out!!
I have tried to unplug and go through the programming again & again... nothing is helping. Hope someone else has experienced this and has an answer!!!
    thank you!

        Hello jessejane22,
Your mother deserves the very best connection and I am here to make sure she gets it! Do other Verizon cell phones work well in her house? Have you tried moving the device to a different area of the house? Can you provide a zip code to reference the area? I am eager to get this resolved!
    Thank you,

  • Home connect - NOT

I am using the home connect device and am looking for another company to use for phone service due to the 800 number experts being very friendly sounding air heads.  Called the 800 number three times . . .  no reason to repeat the whole story.  Some people cannot reach me by phone.  Which is the better company to use for phone service?

    Two problems.
    1.  Verizon airheads say they know what the problem is and so do what they say, and then no change.  Still have the problem.
    2.  I can call out to anyone, but can only receive calls from some callers.  Other callers try to call when I am home, but my phone does not ring, wile they hear rings in their phone.  They then try calling me using another phone service and my phone rings.  If I call the other phone services they say the problem is at my end, ie, Verizon.
