Home, End and Delete key behavior modification-10.4.7

I'm using a PC keybord on my Mini but I share it via a KVM switch with my Dell laptop for work. Toggling between the Widoze machine and the Mac causes me issues because the Home, End and Delete key have different behaviors. How can I modify them in the Mac? Because I have to keep them the same in the laptop.
Home - Move to the beginning of the current line
End - Move to the end of the current line
Delete - Used mostly in Thunderbird to delete emails without opening or needing the mouse. It's useless now.
Lastly, in windows Firefox, when I click in the URL window, it immediately highlights the entire URL in there so I can just start typing a new one. In OS X firefox, I click right into the middle of the URL. I would like it to behave like the Windows version. This problem is made worse by the Home/End key situation. If there was an easy way to highlight the entire URL (i.e. Shift End in Windows),that would work too. But I'd prefer that it immeidately highlight everything upon clicking in there.
Thanks all!

Hi mthhurley!
I'm a new Mac user and found myself running into the same problems. I don't know if this will help but I started using the arrow keys instead of the end/home keys as the down arrow key will take me to the end of the line I am currently typing as long as it is the last line in the document. The up arrow key behaves the same way.
As for highlighting text in the URL address window, if you click three times fast it will highlight the whole string for you.
As I said I'm a very new Mac user so I'm certain there are more experienced users out there with a better answer for you but this is a solution I have found to satisfy myself and I hope it helps you.

  • Direct replacement for "END", "HOME", "INS" and "DELETE" key in Bootcamp XP

I am a new user for MacBook Pro and installed XP in bootcamp as well as installed VMware Fusion for booting XP concurrently in MacOS X.
One annoying problem is I cannot find my MacBook implementing the "END", "HOME", "INS" and "DELETE" key, where some XP application, such as SecureCRT for console access, will use those key as shortcut. For example, in SecureCRT, Ctrl+INS and Shift+INS are the shortcut to copy and paste content in clipboard, but it cannot accept Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.
    Please comment.

Finally I found the solution from VMWare Preference where actually I can "Add" additional mapping for "INS", "END", etc.
Now I can 100% map those key as I worked in XP.

  • Backspace and delete keys not working in LS?

Hi all, I was tutoring a co-worker on the basics of LiveCycle Designer, and ran into a very odd problem.  Neither the backspace nor the delete keys work in the application.  In order to delete text or a cell, she had to resort to using "Cut."
Moreover, when she tried to create a drop-down list, she was not able to click the "+" sign in the object palette in order to add items to it...it was as if the button simply was not there.  I've never seen this issue before.  Anyone know what's going on and if there is a setting to fix this?  I know the keyboard is not damaged because backspace and delete keys work fine in other applications.
    Thanks!
    Windows 7   LS 9.0.0

It's quite possible.  Closing the document and then re-opening it somehow magically reset the keys so that they work now.  Thanks for the response, though!

  • Before updating my iPhone 4S, I could double click the home button, and delete all of the previously opened apps. I am not able to figure out to do that now, after installing the latest update. Does anyone know how to do this?

BEfore updating my iPhone 4S, I could double click the home button and delete all of the previously opened apps. After updating, I am not able to figure out how to do this. Can someone tell me how to do this?  Thank you.

After you double click the home button you swipe up on the app screenshot.

  • ITunes 10.4 and Delete Key

Has anyone noticed this? Before iTunes 10.4 you were able to just highlight an artist or album under the column browser and press delete and it would delete it. It seems not to work now. Am I the only one that has this issue? Doesn't seem to work under library or any of my devices.

I have also noticed this.  Before, the delete key could be used to remove an artist or album from a playlist by selecting it from the browser window.  This no longer works, and the menu item Edit >> Delete must be used.  In addition, cmd-Delete would delete the artist or album from the playlist and library, with the option to move the tracks to the trash.  This was an easy way to manage playlist content, and it is not clear why this function was removed.  I would really like to get this back.

  • How do I delete a mailbox,  tried highlighting mailbox and delete key and nothing?

How do I delete a mail box tried highlighting and delete but nothing

OK, try this. Go to your home folder /LIbrary>Mail>Mailboxes. Select the one(s) you want to delete. Use File>Move to Trash. This has to work.
Also, you may have a corrupt preference file. In the same Library, go to Preferences and find
    com.apple.mail.plist
Move it to the Trash (but don't empty yet, in case you need to put it back.) You will have to restore your Mail settings/preferences upon doing this. If this doesn't help and you need to put it back, you can use File>Put Back when you are in the Trash folder.

  • BUG? JDev 10.1.3.1.0 on MacBook Pro - problem using space and delete keys

Is anyone using JDev 10.1.3.1.0 production release on a Macbook Pro? I am experiencing problems using the delete and space keys. The delete key no longer seems to work at all when using any of the key bindings including Default MacOS X. Using the spacebar also seems to have a conflict with the code completion feature. I am finding that the code completion always pops up when the space bar is used and no space is inserted with the editor. The space bar only works when used in conjuction with the shift key. Can anyone verify if they are able to use these keys in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 on a Macbook Pro?
    Thanks,
    Richard

This was from the dmg file.
I found that in Preferences | Accelerators, Completion Insight lists 'Space' as an accelerator, right after 'CommandAIC'. Removing that fixed the problem, but I still can't fix the Delete issue.
The Delete action is assigned to the 'Delete' key, which is recognizes as the key combination fn-Delete. I tried to assign the Delete Previous Char to just the delete key, but pressing the Delete key while in the New Accelerator field is not recognized - it just pretends as if I had not pressed a key.
I'm looking at the the file:
    jdevhome/system/oracle.jdeveloper.10.1.3.39.84/Default_macosx.kdf
trying to find entries for Delete and they are not in there - is there some other place I should be looking?
    Thanks,

  • Selecting, home, end, and folders in Finder

I am a Mac OS X newbie, and there are a few things that bug me about it (otherwise I love it, though):
    - When I select multiple files using arrow keys, when I hit the down key and then the up key, instead of selecting one less, I select one more, and I have to start the selection over.
    - I really miss the Home and End keyboard buttons.
    - Finder sorts folders among files. I'd rather it kept folders on top, and files below them.
Is there any way to fix these behaviors and have them act as Windows equivalents?
    Thanks.

Finder sorts folders among files. I'd rather it kept folders on top, and files below them.
Check out the last few posts in the thread Showing Folders first in Finder sort ??? for a simple (& so far harmless hack) that puts folders first when sorted by the kind column.
I tried it out on my iMac running 10.5.2 & it has worked fine since then, including after the latest round of security, Safari, etc. updates.

  • When I double tap the home button and delete open apps, they will just re appear if I double tap home again,...

I always delete my open apps but since i did the lates update the apps wont delete they will just re appear when i double tap home again,.. Whyyy??

    For clarification purpose:
You start by double clicking the Home button to reveal the screen as shown above. You then swipe upwards on the App Previews to clear all recently used Apps and end up with a screen like below?
You then tap the Home button to return to normal screen. Then you immediately double tap the Home button again to see all the recently used Apps as shown in the first picture? If this isn't the procedure you are following, please explain your process, and exactly what you are seeing. Attaching screen shots will help.

  • Return, Tab, and Delete keys no longer work

I can't recall doing anything recently (software installs, etc.) to cause this to happen, but those three keys just "bonk" when I try to use them with my eMac G4 1.25GHz
I tried plugging an older apple keyboard from a G4 PowerMac into same USB port and others as well with no luck. I have a belkin USB hub, which the keyboard was plugged into and even tried plugging in the keyboard directly to the eMac, with no luck. All other keys work fine. The odd thing is, it is only iCal, Safari, Mail.app, Firefox, not Terminal or Textmate,
I am stumped. Is there some fix for this??
    Thanks for any help
    Dennis

    1. move or delete ~Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict
    2. Restart
Silly me - you were spot on - 'TextExtras' is something which had been installed, but which I had binned (because I never used it), only I had overlooked the DefaultKeyBinding.dict file (must have misspelt it when searching earlier).
Everything is once again in order. What's more, VirtueDesktops now properly places Mail and Safari in their respective places. (Whereas all I got from restoring my preferences yesterday was that MenuShade back working on all VirtueDesktop spaces, instead of just one.)
So I thank you immensely - I only needed to wander around lost for that bit longer, until crossing your trail of crumbs once more...
    Problem solved.

  • HT203254 Caps lock and Shift Key behavior

    Hi,
I am using mac from 3 years now but just notice one bug or feature in Key board.
If my caps lock is on and I type any character with Shift press I am expecting character in lower case but it is always coming up in Capital. So looks like caps lock is not changing behavior of shift key. Is this always like this or is there any configuration that I can change.
    -Samar

    Thanks Carson for reply.
May be I not able to explain the problem earlier. Caps Lock is working perfectly fine. As my understanding and hows the windows or linux  keyboard works with this scenario I am expecting lower case character when I have Caps lock ON and I press any character with  Shift Key.
    Step 1 :Caps Lock On
    Step 2: Shift Key + I  <<You can press any character>>
Expected result Is "A" but result COMES AS "A"

  • My arrow keys do not work and the Home, pgup and pgdn keys do not work. The arrow keys seem to be the home key and pgup key. almost like they switched? They do work on IE browser.

I do not know what else to relate to you other than what i posted.

Joao suggested already the best way to test this.
I will only add a link to a previous post with a keyboard test program:

I believe the thin film of your keyboard connector got loose and needs to be reseated. Either have this sorted out through the authorized service (especially if your notebook is still under warranty) or find somebody who is confident in following some easy guides (picture 5,6 and 7) from this link:
