HOME FILE BACKUP NOT COMPLETE

one of the backups i do is to copy my 'home' file (found in the user file)
on my hd to an exterior hard drive. lately, maybe after installing snow leopard, i've been having an issue. it stops
copying and i get a prompt 'the operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access 'RPDLAgentHelperD'.
when you look at the 2 files there is a difference of 20gb. so 20gb did not copy.
i did a permissions verification and repair on all my drives using disk utility and the same thing occurs.
any ideas?

google search indicates that this file is installed by RealPlayer and is located in /Users/<username>/Library/ApplicationSupport/RealNetworks/RPDLAgentHelperD. locate it in finder and check permissions on it. what are they? also, are you backing up your home folder by manually copying it to an external?! this is one of the most inconvenient ways to back up one can find. there are LOTS of great backup tools in snow leopard starting with built in Time Machine. I recommend you use one of those.

  • Can't open file: "Could not complete your request because of a program error"

I have a Photoshop file that suddenly won't open.  Last week I upgraded to CS5--the file had been created in CS3 prior to that.  When I try to open it, I receive this error message (in CS5): "Could not complete your request because of a program error."  I tried to open the same file in CS3; there, the file opens, but as soon as I try to do anything I get the same error message....which, annoyingly, re-appears the second I click "OK," so the only thing I can do in CS3 is force-quit.
I've used Time Machine to retrieve versions of the file that were saved four days ago, seven days, and several weeks ago, and I get the same message every time.  Even on versions that were last saved with CS3 (before I installed CS5).
Naturally, this is one of the most important files in my life right now....it's a 300 MB file that contains hundreds of layers and dozens of comps.  So the fact that I suddenly can't open it, after shelling out $1200 to upgrade to the latest and greatest Adobe has to offer, is, to say the least, distressing.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

There is likely a font on that system that's corrupted or for some reason Photoshop just can't deal with.  Fonts are complex things, and it's well known that bad fonts can crash applications.
Ferreting out such a font is normally a matter of removing all but the default fonts, seeing that the problem is corrected, then adding the fonts back in systematically until the offender is isolated.  Yes, this can be tedious.
If it's not a font problem, there's a possibility it's a display driver problem.  To help diagnose that, go into Edit - Preferences - Performance, disable OpenGL Drawing, then restart Photoshop.  If the problem goes away, you'll want to check the web site of the maker of the video card for driver updates.  Don't forget to re-enable OpenGL Drawing again after updating the driver.
    Good luck.

  • Errors thrown when opening files: "could not complete your request because of a program error"

I have a user on our network that recently had Photoshop CS5 reinstalled. Now when she opens .psd files she is notified to "Update the text layers" on the document. If you press "Update" the error "could not complete your request because of a program error" is thrown. If she clicks "no" then she can't properly edit the text layers on the files. I have reset her preferences files and run the font test script with no luck on either.

  • Time Machine backup not completed with error "The disk was not ejected probably..."

I have been using an UBS 3.0 capable external 2.5" hard drive from Lacie to backup my old 21.5" iMac for the last 2 years without problem.
Recently I bought the new late 2013 27" iMac running 10.8.5 and try to migrate the data from the Time Machine backup without success. After a while, Mountain Lion complained with the below error and only data before this message appear were migrated. When I connected the same disk back to my old iMac and ran disk utility, everything looks fine and I was able to complete the TM backup. Eventually, I managed to migrate the data using network copy, instead of TM backup.
Now that my new iMac is back online and I tried to setup Time Machine backup using the same 2.5" Lacie drive, the same error message appeared again in the middle of TM backup (after 3 minutes).
Wonder if anyone ran into the same issue and if there is an issue with the UBS 3.0 port on the new iMac, or there is a work around to this problem.
Any help or pointer would be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Richard

The system is losing connection with the drive for some reason, likely because the drive is losing power and unmounting, but there could be other reasons as well. Do you have access to an external power supply for the drive? If so then connect tthat so it is not relying on the USB bus power to keep the drive running. I have also found this to happen with some USB 3.0 enclosures, and it appears to be a compatibility issue with them and Apple's USB 3.0 drivers, so another option is to get a USB 2.0 hub and use that for the connection. Things will not run at USB 3.0 speeds, but the drives will not continually disconnect.

  • A question about restoring from cold backup(control file backup not clear)

    Hi,
I had another question about restoring the cold backup. My database is in noarchivelog mode and after taking a consistent cold backup, all I need to do is to restore the backup right? -Why I got this question is because: when I backup my control file to trace, I see statements like this:-----
-- Commands to re-create incarnation table
-- Below log names MUST be changed to existing filenames on
-- disk. Any one log file from each branch can be used to
    -- re-create incarnation records.
    -- ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/uo1/app1/arch1_1_647102958.dbf';
-- Recovery is required if any of the datafiles are restored backups,
-- or if the last shutdown was not normal or immediate.
    RECOVER DATABASE
-- Database can now be opened normally.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
My database is in noarchivelog mode now so don't know why these statements (of register the logfile) is there in the backup of control file? so when I restore the cold backup of this database, it will still work correct? (there is no logfile I have only CRD files in cold backup -no archive log files.)
    thanks

  • My Files are not complete!

i bought an audio book from my ipod and it only plays one hour of it. It shows the whole file time but is only silence?? Why?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

  • Websites are not displaying all graphics. Amazon does not show any buttons/links to place orders. My Yahoo home page is not complete. What do I do besides going back to IE?

Colors, icons, links, buttons for ordering on Amazon do not appear through Firefox, but do with IE. My Yahoo homepage is also missing a lot of graphics, pictures, etc. Text is all in blue rather than black

    Stan -
Thanks again for the simple but valuable tip.
I'm just going to repeat the relevant sections from my previous post with the screenshots this time:
Below you'll see a snip of how my current folder structure appears. It's identical to yours, except there are no button files in the General Folder. Since you were kind enough to include a file name, I did a search on that specific one and it's nowhere to be found on my hard drive. Hmmm....
I've seen others remark on how... "challenging".... Adobe's instructions can be sometime. I'll admit to having the same feeling when I was trying to download and install all the content files and the 7-zip stuff. Is the answer somehow that I screwed up that?  Note the 7-zip folder right above the Adobe folder. Here's a screen shot of that expanded folder contents:
Does that look like you think it should? Have I not installed or extracted something correctly?
Finally, the only other thing I can think of to give you as much info as you might need is to include a screenshot of where the "Functional Content" stuff got saved. Adobe's instructions about this (if I recall correctly) were that it did NOT have to be installed anywhere specific, but you then had to go into Encore (& Premiere) and through preferences point to this stuff, which I believe I did. But I don't see any button type files in these anyway.
    Other thoughts or advice?
    Thanks!

  • Time Machine backup not complete?

I've had Time Machine running now succesfully for a while.
HOWEVER ... a week ago my machine all of a sudden came to a grinding halt, with the internal HD becoming unresponsive.
After a lot of checking for solutions online, I've decided to erase the HD, and restore a former system thru TimeMachine.
The internal HD is still not functioning properly, but when I start up from an external HD, I can see it in Finder. When I check the contents, however, it does not seem to contain my applications!
I thought TM was supposed to make a full system backup?
Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
Also, it now takes AGES for a folder to open on the restored drive. Is this normal?

Exactly how did you do the restore?

Since there's a problem on the internal, don't trust anything you see there. When you start up from the external, use Time Machine to see what's on the Time Machine backups, via the "Star Wars" display. Unless you excluded the Applications folder via TM Preferences > Options, it should be there.
Also, it now takes AGES for a folder to open on the restored drive. Is this normal?
If the drive is failing, don't count on anything being normal!
