Home finance software help

hello i am very new mac user switching from windows, all our finances are on microsoft money. Does apple have a program already installed in the tiger ver 10.4.2? is there a program any one can recommend? I need to be able to print checks. Thanks!

Hi alasalla,
Welcome to the discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
Look for Quicken 2005 in your Applications folder. Quicken has also been bundled with the 'consumer' Macs since the Performa series (mid 1990s) or earlier, but I don't know if it is included in the 'professional' machines (such as your PowerBook.)
If not, check the Made4Mac software guide on this site. Click the  tab above, then the Made4Mac link in the bar below the tabs. Click Home and Recreation in the menu on the left, then the Accounting and Finance radio button in the list. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Find Software.
This forum is dedicated to Apple's productivity application, AppleWorks, which is available as a retail item, and is bundled with current 'consumer' Macs (iMac and iBook and the Mac Mini). You might find further results by posting your question in the PowerBook section of the Discussions.
Regards,
Barry

  • Home finance software recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good home finance program? I've read poor reviews of Money and Quicken. I am currently using iBank and hate it. Are there any others?
    Thank you!
    Heather

I started out with Quicken on a PC about ten years ago. When I moved to Mac, I found the Mac version severely lacking. Still, I stuck with it and its dated OS9 feel for another year before giving up (I really wanted Intuit to publish a decent Mac version of this app).
I switched to iBank, and after a few months of constant, unnecessary software patches and sluggish register entry response, I was ready to switch back.
Intuit finally released Quicken 2007 for Mac, which looks a tiny bit more Aqua, but is still the same stripped-down, half-baked version of the Windows application Quicken users have come to know and love. What's more, when I try to register my new Quicken 2007, I get constant server errors. And checking the quicken.com boards for Mac-related help is like waiting for Godot.
But, for all it's quirks and brutish lack of Tigerian or Leopardian style, Quicken really is still the best app for personal finance on the Mac, and that's not saying much. Every other app I've tried (and I tried several) came up severely lacking in comparison.
You'd think those greedy bloodsuckers at Intuit would be falling all over themselves to port a graphically rich version of their flagship software to Mac -even if it is only for another 10% market share. I guess we'll just have to keep holding our breath.

  • What is the best home finance support for mac?

Hi- I am new to owning a Mac. I have had ipad and iphone for years.  Does anyone have suggestions for best home finance software?  I have been looking at Ibank 5 as an option. Any concerns with this software?

Updated for what?  Home accounting principles are pretty much the same now as they were in 2007: Quicken 2007 for Intel (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks) for $15 here:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
I would still be using my Quicken Deluxe 2002 if it did not require Rosetta, which is no longer included in OS X since Lion.

  • Home finance program

Does anyone know a home finance program that works with Snow Leopard.  I understand that Quicken Essentials has received low ratings.  I am looking for a basic program.

  • Mac finance software - quickest & easiest?

Hi - I am interested in Mac finance software that:
-can categorize or tag transactions on its own.
-do direct connect to my bank on a schedule in the background
(OK but less desirable option would be to have an internal browser for ofx or qif download)
-do much from the keyboard with minimal keypress sequences - ie for manual categorization or tagging.
-sync to an iphone app (possibly over the air).
I've done some research but can't find what I want.
    Does this exist?
    Thanks

    Joe,
There are (unfortunately) only a few reasonably good banking/finance programs for Macs. The operative words are 'reasonably good'. None is truly outstanding, and each has significant pros & cons:
    Moneydance
Quicken Essentials for Mac (imho a real disappointment from Intuit)
    iBank
There are a whole bunch of lesser apps, none of which I would trust with my finances.
Have you considered installing Windows and running Quicken Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business in Windows?

  • Please recommend personal finance software for Mac that allows month to month analysis of spending by categories.  Quicken on a PC was good at this.  Mint seems very limited.

Please recommend personal finance software for Mac that allows month to month analysis of spending by categories.  Quicken on a PC was good at this.  Mint seems very limited.

Quicken for Mac 2007 works just fine (and is said to be compatible with Mavericks).  It is often denounced for not being "modern", but when something works, and does everything I want, I need a good reason to switch.
A few years ago (2011), I got that reason when I upgraded OSX and Quicken stopped working due to the absence of Rosetta.  I switched to iBank.  I used it for more than a year.  It was cumbersome, they have no sense of a helpful user interface, but it "works".  I found ONE feature that I liked:  you can attach an image (or any file) to a register entry, so I can save receipts right with the register.
But when Intuit came out with the revised Quicken 2007 for Mountain Lion, I gladly went back.  I found that being able to update stock prices right in the portfolio view (for those not automatically found online) was handy - in iBank you have to generate a report to see the holdings, and then you have to switch to a view of "Securities" then scroll down through that list to find your stock, then "edit" then change the price, then "Save" then go back to reports and re-generate the portfolio view.  Also, if you enter a stock purchase in a Quicken register, the price you paid gets added to the price history for the stock (as of the date of the transaction).  No such help in iBank.  Most of the helpful UI features (like increasing the date with the + key) are glaringly missing in iBank.  I find I am getting no more than about 3-4 keystrokes before having to move the mouse and click.
If you are considering sharing the app on an iPad, Quicken won't work, but I found that iBank for iPad doesn't work either.  The interface is completely different from the Mac version, you can't do much with it, and if you have a stock whose price is $11.25 / share and sell 200 shares, you might find that $22.50 gets added to your cash in the account.  (I actually made a few million dollars when it decided that 200 shares at $11.25  yielded $2,250,000.)  Luckly, I received a refund for that app.
Depending on how the Mavericks switch goes, I hope to be able to stick with Quicken, but I am keeping my records up-to-date in both now, because I can live with iBank.  I will just have to keep an eye on its arithmetic.

  • I am using Quicken Personal Finance Software 2007 for Mac

I am using Quicken Personal Finance Software on my Mac.  I am running updated Mountain Lion.  I entered all my information and brought my accounts all up to date.  I quit Quicken and opened it again a couple days later and all information I entered was missing.  This has happened 3 times now over the past 3 months, and each time I go back to November 2011 and re-enter ll the deposit, debits and reconcile. Each time when I reopen Quicken all information is back to 2011. Can anyone help me?

I can't see on their website that they have made a Mountain Lion compatible version, only Lion:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/lion-compatible-quicken-mac-2007/GEN83769 .html
But this does say they expect it to be compatible:

  • Finance software that will take import from Liquid Ledger?

I am using Liquid Ledger personal finance software, which is no longer being made.
I want to switch to a different personal finance software that is compatible with the latest Mac OS.
I'm thinking of switching to Quicken, mostly because it's a well know software, and should continue to release versions compatible with the latest Mac OS.
I don't want to be stuck in the same situation in the future with my information stuck in a software that isn't being updated.
So would you pick Quicken or is there another Mac personal Finance software that will continue to release new versions?
Also... How do I get my data from Liquid Ledger to Quicken. I imagine it's not going to be smooth...

Excellent! Thanks so much. That seems to be a great feature I had not discovered. I went into factory-->Audio to Score, and it turned the waveform view into piano roll, and gave me the music notation! Awesome!
Now I cannot seem to find the way to return the view back to the waveform. The help file chapter explaining this is not something I can seem to find. Do you know the trick?
    Thanks! (and thanks!),
    Bryan

  • Finance software - UK

I am trying to find some personal finance software - I used to use Quicken (for Windows) but understand that Quicken 2006 (for Mac or Windows) is not being made for the UK market.
Does anyone know of a finance application that is similar to Quicken, that is made for the UK market, that can be run on my Mac?
    Thanks

    Hi Finchley --
Can't speak from experience on this one, but here's an article discussing some options that you might find helpful.

  • Home Media Software for MAC

When will the Home Media software be available for MAC users?
    Thanks!

I like iBank. I do have one minor problem with it - my future transactions don't always behave the way they ought. I have to pay very close attention to transactions when they are coming up so that I know that they will be accurately accounted for in forward-looking balances. The good news about the problem is that it typically gives me a pessimistic forecast when it is inaccurate. Better that than an overly optimistic forecast.
However, that having been said, iBank works very well with my bank accounts and is able to retrieve transactions from all financial institutions for my checking, savings, credit card, investment and mortgage accounts. The actual information is always accurate.
iBank technical support is very helpful and I can usually count on reaching a technician via chat pretty quickly when needed.

  • Is there a good apple based alternative to the personal. finance software program "quicken for mac"?  It is a poorly supported program.

Is there a good apple based alternative to the persona finance software program "quicken for mac"?  It is a poorly supported program.

I switched from Quicken on a Windows computer to iBank on a Mac. It is a very good program, has very good free download connections to financial institutions (optional), and very good reports. The only negative is that it is just different enough from Quicken that there is a learning curve and the first month or two were frustrating -- but that is likely true of anything that you might change to. http://www.iggsoftware.com/ibank/
