Home folder stopping me from opening the mail application

Ok this may sound stupid, but what and where is the home folder so tht I can delete documents in it to access the mail application?

Your Home Folder is the one with the icon of a little house, and carries your username. It's in the Dock: its actual location is (hard disk)>Users><username). It contains your Documents, preferences, mail, everything personal to you. However 'delete documents in it to access the mail application' doesn't make any sense. The Mail application is in the Applications Folder. What happens when you double-click on it? Do you get an error message? Does it open?

1. If by flurry of emails you mean they all appear opened as if clicked on.
2. Or do you mean your inbox fills up with a whole lot of 'new' unread emails downloaded from the server, so that if you delete them they return next time you open Mail.
If it is 1. Press (three keys) Option + Command + W
This will close all mail windows including the inbox.
Then press (two keys) Command + 1
to return the inbox.
That should stop any flurry next time you open Mail
If 2., Open Mail Preferences > Accounts (select the account in question if there is more than one), click on Advanced, and where it says remove copy from server after retrieving message, select that choice and click Remove now.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Any ideas how to resolve this?
I have tried the suggestions already given on Lists, and nothing has yet worked...

10.6.8 is not Mountain Lion.
How big is your hard drive, and how full is it?
Did you happen to download any system cache cleaners? Those can damage its ability to function.
Have you tried repairing permissions?
Is your data backed up?
Is Spotlight indexed?
Is the Mail trying to load an IMAP, POP or Exchange account?

Can't open the mail application since updating to 10.6.6

Hi,
Since I updated to 10.6.6 I can no longer open my mail application. I get a message stating that "You have version 4.3 (1081/1082) of mail. It can not be used with the Mac OS X Version 10.6.6."
When I was updating my mail was not in the application folder but within a separate folder in the app folder, so it may not have been updated.
Now my question is how do I solve this, I can't work properly without the mail application!

Hi Svanton,
One suggestion would be to take the Mail App out of the folder you put it in and then download and install the 10 6 6 Combo Update…

DW 4 - can I stop it from opening the objects window by default

I've used Dreamwaver 4 for years, and have closed the objects
windows a few hundred thousand times because it opens by default
every time I open an html file. Is there any way to set the default
so that the objects window does NOT open automatically. The
properties window also opens by default, but that is fine. Any
suggestions on how to stop the object window from opening every

Pure guesswork, but when I had problems with iTunes launching again and again, the reason were my external speakers. I simply had to unplug the speakers from the line-out socket, and iTunes stopped launching on its own.

How do I stop Firefox from opening the Firefox start page as a tab when I open the browser?

New Dell Laptop and new Firefox download. Have used Firefox for several years. This time it loads the Firefox Start Page automatically as a tab every time I open the browser. I can't find how to turn it off. I did not set it up to do this intentionally.

How do I stop Firefox from opening the Getting Started page - tried many things already!

Each time I start Firefox it does two things:
1 - It checks plugin compatibility.
2 - It opens the Getting Started Page.
I have just installed the latest 8.0.1. version.
I run on Windows7 Ultimate.
Have not used Firefox for a year due to this with previous version doing the same.
Have tried all support recommendations: closing tabs, saving etc.
Surprised to see no one else with these issues and no support?

it shows me a message of Reopen and then it close. it doesn't allow me to open my mail. And before it was working perefectly.

Have you at any time moved Mail from its normal home in the /Appications folder?
If so, it's likely the old version would have been left around and the proper version is likely in the /Applications folder.

Mail application with new maverick operating system requires me to log into i cloud every time I open the mail application. Why is this?

I downloaded the new maverick operating system to my mac book pro, and after the download, the mail appliation keeps poping up a log in box from i cloud asking my password. Why?

If the email addresses are not aliases and you have seperate sign in Apple IDs, the first sign into iCloud with your main address.
For the second, open Mail, Contacts, & Calendars icon in system preferences. Click to add account and choose iCloud in the list. Provide your ID and password and the account should be created. You will not be able to sync AB, Calendars, etc though. You will only have those features with the first main account you set up first.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance. You can skip this step if you don't care about the data that hasn't been backed up.
Reinstall the OS.* Your data should be unaffected unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Open Apple Mail, and open Preferences (under Mail in the Menu Bar). On the General tab, check the "Default Email Reader" and set it to Mail (6.6).

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
