Home Hub 1.0 Ethernet port 2.

I have my PC linked to Ethernet port1.   Im trying to plug my xbox into Ethernet port 2. But it doesnt work. I swaped the around and the xbox worked fine. Please Why doesn't Port2 work or how do i get it to connect??
thx.

There's an issue with port 2 on the early home hubs - it tends to go to sleep. Apparently PCs generate enough traffic to keep it awake, but other devices may not. That's why a BT Vision box should always be plugged into port 1.

Port forwarding worked for these ports on HH3 (type B).

  • Xbox 360 / home hub 3 ethernet speed issues

    Some advice/help needed please.
I've connected by xbox 360 (slim) to my home hub 3 via Ethernet but it is connecting at random speeds.
Some days it connects at 100mb (which I would expect it to connect at), other days it connects at only 10mb!
I've tried using different ports on the back of the hub, making sure nothing else is connected but sometimes to no avail.
I know the xbox is 10/100 compatable and tries to connect at the fastest speed available but I just don't understand why sometimes it connects at 10mb and everything I try it refuses to connect any faster!
It's not like a pc where I can go into the network adapter to try to force connecting at 100mb.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks

  • Home Hub 3: ethernet & wireless connections from i...

I have a perplexing problem whereby the functionality I get from my Home Hub 3 is different depending on whether my brand new iMac computer running MacOS 10.7.2 is connected wired (i.e. using ethernet) or via wireless.
The functionality difference has shown itself to me in the two scenarios below. It's a problem to me because the problems occur when the iMac is connected via ethernet and I want to use ethernet to connect my iMac. If the wireless connection to the iMac was as reliable as everything else on my network (mac laptops also running 10.7.2, windows 7 laptops, iphones, ipads etc) I would be content to use wireless. However, the iMac frequently drops the signal requiring a wireless on/off to get it back. I'm tending to hold the iMac responsible for this and await an Apple fix, although having changed the security setting on the Home Hub 3 to WPA2 only and set the channel to channel 4, the wireless dropouts are much less frequent, without these changes it drops the signal every few minutes. Any input on this would be gratefully received.
I want wired for connection reliability (and speed), but I have a two situations where I get more functionality out of my network if the iMac is connected via wireless. A classic case of being caught between two stools.
    Scenario 1
I have a WD MyBook Live NAS drive attached to the Home Hob 3 via ethernet with the intention of using it as a Time Machine backup disc for the iMac and to be a shared drive for our macbook and windows laptops. All seems fine at first with the iMac connected via ethernet, the browser can see the NAS drive and set it up etc, but Time Machine will only see the WD MyBook Live if wireless is switched on.
    Scenario 2
I have an HP 5510 wireless printer and set it up and HP software installed on the iMac. With the iMac connected to the Home Hub 3 via ethernet printing is fine, however, scanning doesn't work, the scanner and iMac cant see each other. With wireless scanning is fine as well as printing.
I haven't wanted to mess with it all any more, Ive spent hours going through the HP software, the WD software, the router as well as the network preferences on the iMac. It's not making make sense. Anybody who knows what's going on here would be a genius in my book!

Hi mja, Apologies but I'm not the expert you're looking for, but a couple of my experiences may be of interest. I've got a WD my book running as a networked back up drive. A while back there was an update for a "USB" connected hard drive (which mine is definitely not) - this confused my PC -- wouldn't let it close down amongst many other symptoms --with great difficuly managed to disable the driver and sanity was restored. The other problem involved a print server that has a static IP address -------- my HH3 sometimes gives that IP address to other items on my network --------- this stops the printer working. Apologies if this post is not formatted correctly, I'm using an iPad --- not by choice,, All the best Michael

  • Ichat AV 3.15 Error - 8 Report w/BT Home Hub

    Hello:
I am brand new to Mac. I have reviewed many discussion groups to try to determine the cause/solution to the following with no success:
Ichat AV 3.15 is unable to connect with experienced Mac users globally and across town (I believe thus eliminating the possibility of the error originating on the other side). I generate an Error – 8 report whether I initiate or accept. Ichat texting works fine and Skype works without incident. I have spoken to BT tech support since I am on a brand new BT Home Hub and using ethernet for these trials. They offer no guidance. Claim it is an Apple issue.
I have tried all of the following:
    1. Software Firewall Off
    2. Software Firewall On with Ichat ports defined with relevant TCP/UDP assignments
    3. QuickTime Preference Streaming set @ 1.5 Mbps T1/Intranet/Lan and just Intranet/Lan
    4. Ichat Preference Bandwidth set to “None”
Router has UPnP capability – engaged it – no success. Deactivated UPnP and ran a manually port forwarded Ichat application with relevant triggers and self triggers into the BT Home Hub – I could very well not have done this properly but I don’t think so.
Neither that configuration nor any combination of the above is successful.
I have closed all applications and re-booted both laptop and router to ensure new configurations were accepted.
I must be doing something fundamentally wrong and making a simple mistake along the path.
Again, I am new to all this, so any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

you have to forward ports 5060 and 16384-16403 on your router. normally in the NAT settings. there a list on ichatAV compatible routers. the best is to use airport extreme/express in DHCP mode and let the airport do the PPPoE and put your DSL modem into bridge mode, most of the times the DSL/Cable modem is messing up... so to let the compatible router to the DHCP serving and pppoe is the best bet. i worked for me numerous times...

  • Using more than one Ethernet port

So I just brought myself another pair of TP link wifi adapters as I already had some, but the ones I had only had 1 port and these have 3. So I set it all up and try to use 2 ethernet ports as I want to use my xbox one and Laptop through these adapters. So when i set it up and pluged the ethernet cables into the router the broadband light on the hub goes orange and the broadband is lost unitl i take out one of the ethernet cables and reset the hub it works fine with just one.
I just really want to know why i cant have more than one ethernet cable plugged into the hub.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can only connect one broadband extender to the home hub. This must be designated as the Access Point. All the rest need to be slaved to that Access Point. These need to be individually "paired" to the AP one connected to the home hub.
You can still use the other ports on the home hub for direct Ethernet connections.
If you try and connect more than one extender to a home hub Ethernet port, you will create a loopback, which will crash the home hub.

  • Airport Express & BT Home Hub 2.0

    Hi,
I know there's been a few similar topics posted on this issue, but none that specifically help with what I'm trying to do, so hopefully somebody can give me some advice.
I've basically just had BT Infinity installed, which came with the Home Hub 2.0. I'm using this to connect all my Macs wirelessly to the internet with no problems.
But, I also have an Airport Express (the old model), that I just want to use for AirTunes with any wireless functionality switched off.
I've connected the Express to the Home Hub via an ethernet cable and it is visible if I got into the Home Hub admin settings as a physically connected device.
The problem comes in that I now can't see the Express in my Airport Utility. Although having done a reset it then shows up. I proceed to configure it for AirTunes usage only, by switching of the wireless connection and then apply the settings.
The Express then hangs while it's restarting and again becomes invisible to Airport Utility.
So, can anyone please help figure out this problem?
    Thanks.

With the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) connected to the BT Home Hub by Ethernet, be sure that the following setting is enabled:
o AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > Enable AirTunes over Ethernet
Note: You may need to change this setting while temporarily connected directly to the AX's Ethernet port in order to access it from the AirPort Utility.

  • Can I connect a printer to home hub to print wirel...

    Hi
My first post, hope someone can help. I've just signed up to BT for my broadband (I'm still with Orange until the change over goes through).
I can currently print from my wireless laptop (downstairs) to a printer (upstairs) that is plugged into the USB port on my Orange Livebox. Will I still be able to connect a printer to the new BT home hubs USB port & print wirelessly? (The printer doesn't have its own wireless capability & I doubt I'd be able to get hold of the required "optional parts" anymore as the printer is a few years old.)
    Regards
    Mick.

    HI Mick,
I believe the home hub has a USB port - if not it iwll be ethernet. Someone with it will comment I am sure as I have the v2.0 and it does have a USB port

  • Gigabit Ethernet Ports

Can anyone tell me which BT Home HUBs support Gigabit Ethernet, as I wish to obtain a Western Digital MYBOOK WORLD EDITION 2TB Harddrive. So I can Network my Desktop and family Laptops for file sharing and backing up all home computer systems etc. Any info would be helpful on this topic, many thanks in advance.

    Hi dynastyuk,
There are some other really cheap alternatives around for gigabit ports...
    This for example:
    http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&q=gigabit+switch&cid=18212157716750550582&ei=O2BUTZ2W...
12 quid for a gigabit switch (Just connect all gigabit capable devices into the switch and connect the switch to the homehub)
    I hope this helps

  • BT Home Hub - Airport Express - Windows Vista : I can't get it to work!!

Hi, I am running Windows Vista, with the BT Home Hub connected via Ethernet. I want to wirelessly connect to my airport express to stream music to the hifi. But, my airport express client is NEVER found via wirless, but is via ethernet, which defies the point of having it.
Has anyone ever got this to work, and can let me know how?
    Thanks!

Here's how to connect to you Airport Express via wireless from Vista I'm just pasting it in as I'm not going to re-type the whole thing, so pardon if it's slightly off-topic in spots. Though I guess it won't help you if you're having problems in iTunes as it's known to not work properly most of the time...I haven't ventured that far as I've read it's somewhat fruitless.
I was just playing with this in Vista Ultimate to hookup a printer we have installed on an Airport Express. Here's what I did to get it to work:
Just to make sure all went as smoothly as possible I ran the Airport utility installer as administrator (not sure if it was necessary but worked fine). I then ran the utility from the start menu and achieved the same results as you (no base stations show up) and even turned off Windows firewall completely to make sure it wasn't causing problems (it asked for permission to give access upon first run).
But to solve the problem I then used the "Other..." button located next to the "Re-scan" button and input the IP address and password of the Airport Express manually. This did the trick and I could connect to the Express and see the config screen. As this was already configured for our network I didn't really change anything but I don't see any problems with doing so and updating the settings from Vista once you are connected to the config screen.
(skip the rest of this if all you needed was to connect the Admin utility)
To install my particular printer (a Konica-Minolta laser) I had to connect it locally to my notebook first, let Vista find the updated drivers online (worked fine!!) and then had to add a new port in the printers properties screens by creating a new standard TCP/IP port and just using the IP of the Express. I then selected that as the printers port instead of the USB one, turned off bi-directional support (REQUIRED!!!!) and printed a test page. All worked great. Note I had to do this whole local hook-up then change ports stuff (and more if I remember correctly) for XP too.
Hope this helps. At least until they update the Admin utility (and iTunes please!!!!) to work within Vista.

  • No Internet access BT Home Hub 5

I have a problem that has just occurred over the last 3 days. My computers, BT vision box, sky box and NAS connected to my home hub 5 via ethernet or powerline have no Internet access, they will  at times see the NAS, although currently they do not. Occasionally they will get Internet access via wifi.  All my other devices,  smart phones and tablets are fine,  via either 2.4ghz band or 5ghz band. No problems here.
On occasion attempting to access a webpage on wired devices I get a message that there has been a dns server error. Until  3 days ago everything worked fine since the purchase of the hub 5 4 months ago. I have so far tried:
    1. Restarting the hub
    2. Resetting the hub.
    Neither have worked.
    Any help appreciated.
    Steve.

Hi, thanks for the post. I've just tried to follow the instructions you've provided and on both my windows 7 and 8.1 machines the only option offered is to manage wireless connections. Is this unique to Windows 7 and 8? I don't seem to have the option to manage wired connections?
I've lost wired links to my Sky box and other devices again. Wireless remains solid...

Can i connect a Time Capsule to my BT Home Hub but still having the home hub as the only wireless router. I only want to backup my MBP over wireless

Can i connect a Time Capsule to my BT Home Hub but still having the home hub as the only wireless router
    Yes.
You have the option of connecting the Time Capsule to the Home Hub using an Ethernet cable, or you can connect to the Home Hub using wireless only and locate the Time Capsule in a "safe" location as a security measure.

  • Problem connecting to Home Hub 2 with a Kindle Fir...

My parents have just bought a Kindle Fire HD and I'm helping them set it up, but I'm having to do it via Skype video because I live a long way away. This is their only wifi device; their PC is connected to their Home Hub 2 via Ethernet cable.
They've got wifi connectivity, but when they try to access the internet on the Kindle they always get directed to the BT Fon login page. Would I be correct in thinking that this is because they're actually connected to *somebody else's* Home Hub 2 in the same street? My parents left the SSID of the Home Hub as the factory default, and that's what they looked for in the list of available networks, so presumably one of their neighbours also has a Home Hub 2 and also hasn't changed the SSID?

    AVR2 wrote:
OK, interesting. So each hub broadcasts two separate SSIDs? I'm sure they said they were connecting to "BTHomehub2-NHRR"
Yes, that is the case, unless they opted out of BT wifi/FON. If they never intend to use any of the free BT hotspots when away from home, then opting out will remove those extra SSIDS.
The automatic connection to BT FON is a common problem. On most devices there is an option to "forget" the BT FON/BT wifi connections, and the device should not re-connect to them.
See if you can get them to do that first, then try and reconnect to BTHomehub2-NHRR, entering the wireless key when prompted.
Do they have any other wireless devices connected to the home hub 2?

  • Home Hub 3 Losing Powerline Adaptor Connection

    Hello All,
First off, apologies if this question has been posted and/or answered elsewhere but I couldn't find any posts that duplicate my situation.
I have BT Infinity with a Home Hub 3 (installed in July last year) and all seems to be well except for the ability of the Home Hub to keep ethernet connections alive.
    My setup;
1x HH3 in the study, connected to the Internet as per usual & performing DHCP duties with a gigabit switch to connect all the 'local' hardware.
1x Comtrend 9020 Powerline adaptor pair to connect the apple TV in the lounge.
    The problem;
The powerline adaptors - which I only chose after seeing that they were the same kind installed by BT Vision engineers, so they must be considered compatible with the HH3, right? - seem to keep 'dropping off' my network. Originally, I had them using DHCP addresses because I figured that the BT Vision customers wouldn't be doing any additional configuration but that didn't work so I guessed that there must be something that the BT Vision box does to keep the connection alive.
Now I have tried switching to fixed IP addresses but that also seems to be a dead end because they still drop off the connected devices list on the HH3.
It would appear to be the connection between the HH3 and the Powerline adaptors which is being dropped because when this happens I am unable to login to the powerline config interface (browser based) and pings are not responded to.
If I want to stream content to the Apple TV I now have to resort to resetting the HH3, the powerline adaptors and the Apple TV, which kind of defeats the convenience factor a little (plus it would be far too technical to explain to my wife). BTW - the full reset process was arrived at after trying different combinations of resetting the 3 components in the chain with no success.
    Any ideas?

You must use fixed IP addresses outside of the home hubs DHCP range, otherwise you will have the same problem
    See Static IP
I think you can do that for the Powerline adapters as well.
Login to the Powerline web interface, password is BT, I think there is a setting to use a static address. You will need to use a different address for the other Powerline adapter.

  • Connecting time capsule wirelessly to BT home hub

Help unable to set up time capsule to wirelessly join my BT home hub (original white home hub for use in UK). Goes through all the stages then when restarts can't find airport device. Took it to local genius bar and worked fine there. Is this a problem peculiar to home hubs?

ESM@ESM, welcome to the discussion area!
In order to "Join a wireless network", you need to know the exact type of wireless security that your BT Home Hub is using, so you can provide those settings to the Time Capsule. It cannot join your network unless you have the correct settings.
It would be much easier to configure your Time Capsule to connect to your Home Hub using an ethernet cable. This will still allow you to use your Home Hub wireless network for backups, and you'll also have the option to use ethernet for backups, which will allow you to backup much more quickly. Can you consider that option?
