Home Hub 3 A.. BT's best ever home hub?

Hi,
I signed up for Infinity 2 (coming from sky) on the 31st May. I timed it just before the line rental increase (yay) but also just before the home hub 4 was being supplied by default to new customers (doh).
On sign up BT clearly advertised they'd supply their best ever home hub (or wording to that effect), yet they've posted me a HomeHub 3A. The wireless on this thing is abysmal (54mbps on an N adaptor with nothing else on the network to drop the speed). So, am I right in thinking that I've not actually been sent BT's best home hub as advertised at the time, which I presume would have been the 3B?
I contacted CS via email but the reply was that they could confirm I have received my equipment. Basically my email was skimmed and the person/robot replying thought I was asking for tracking info!

The "Best Homehub ever" is open to opinion. You will find that some people swear by the HH2 others that the HH3 A is best others that the HH3 B is best and obviously now that the HH4 is best although others have gone back to HH3 from HH4.
The problem with wireless is there are so many variables that can effect its speed such as congestion and interference.
Have you downloaded and installed inSSider. It can be used to scan the wireless channels and you can see which is the strongest and least congested then set your HH to a fixed channel.

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

What is the best NAS/home network solution?
Current Network:
two Arch, one desktop, one laptop
two macs, ditto
wlan router without usb port
two printers
one scanner
Current situation:
All printers and the scanner are on the Arch desktop running samba. I don't seem to be able to stream from samba, at least wiki doesn't appear to mention it.
Ideal situation:
- music and video streaming
- printing without need for desktop to be on
- central pim data storage, ideally so that I can have my pim suite open (I use kontact but am willing to change - need email, calendar, address book, RSS & newsreeder) on two machines and they don't get their knickers in a twist... Is that at all possible?
- automatic mounting
Even more ideal situation
- all of the above
- WAN streaming
Personally I don't see the wood for the trees at the mo...

You already have the hardware, but the laptop may still be too power hungry or noisy. In that case a second hand eeebox something or a self built VIA C7/ VIA Nano / Intel Atom based system may be a solution (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=61662&p=1).
If you want as little configuring as possible take a look at amahi, Freenas (or its coming Debian-spin off OpenMediaVault). They are basically all-in-one homeserver distros. If you want to take the DIY route then I can recommend these apps:
- music and video streaming: mediatomb +djmount (upnp protocol) / FireFly (daap protocol) / mpd (audio only). Or if you just want to watch/listen to your media on your pc that is stored on your server then a share could be enough.
- print-server: not sure, cups maybe?
- central pim: : this is pretty complex to set up right. You need things like a
pop3/imap mailserver -> dovecot / qmail / postfix
groupware app (shared calendar, webmail, tasks etc) -> Zarafa / Zimbra / open-xchange.com / Sogo / Group-Office / Citadel ... )
synchronization using caldav/icalendar
mobile synch of contacts/calendar/mail via ActiveSync or syncML protocol -> funambol or z-push. Zarafa is one of the few options with a free ActiveSync connection l believe.
- automatic mounting: can be done in many ways (smb/nfs/webdav/sshfs). I have a sshfs share mounted through /etc/fstab.
- WAN streaming: can easily be done with mpd. the latest version has streaming server built in so you don't need to set up a separate Icecast streaming server.

Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.

How can I share the work iTunes with my home iTunes so I can work from home? Need to be able to share playlists and files for editing tracks.

I've just started working for a media company that provides the music for sporting events. They use iTunes to create playlists that I have to load into an IR machine with hot keys. I also have to edit tracks to create new stings and intros. As there is a 2.5 hour commute, I want to access the work iTunes library from my home MBP so I can work from home. When I'm at work I can share the work iTunes library, but when I'm back home I can't use it. Any ideas of how I could effectively Home Share over the internet with two seperate iTunes accounts?
The work iMac is running 10.7.5 and my MBP is 10.8.4

In that case, does anybody know of a program or workaround that will make this so?

Best practises for Hub and spoke Metro Etherent network

It is my first MAN deployment. I will use the 6513 as the core switch and the 3550 as the edge switches to the customer.
The customer has 9 locations. The customer asked for interconnection between the 9 locations and his Data center in his HQ.
Additionally his Internet connection is at the HQ too.
What is the best practice to architect this solution addressing security? How I deploy VLANs (like one vlan for the internet, one vlan for each department, one management vlan. Etc)

Let me add my two cents here, when speaking about MAN deployments the name of the game is MPLS, so I guess you are using the same on your Cat 6500s and connecting your customers on 3550s using Vlans.
Regarding your questions:
a) Upgrading Ethernet to L3 for traffic shaping: This is basically done at 3550, so I suppose that's what you intend to do, plus you will be letting Spokes talk to only Hub site, so inter Vlan, atleast between Hub and each spoke will be required, hence inter valn routing. Other way is to configure P2P circuits between Hub site with Vlan mapping (per spoke) and Spoke sites with Port mapping, in this scenario Inter Vlan routing is not a necessity.
b) Security: This depends on what exact architecure you have deployed, in my case I have simply installed a Gateway router with BGP peering with PEs, a separate VRF alongwith redistribution does the trick.

Can anyone help me understand why the Develop module on my 2nd laptop is disabled and asking me to renew membership to reactive. I have a standalone LR5 which I purchased in December 2014 on the Windows platform. My 2nd laptop is in a different location to my home laptop and is in my holiday home where I would like to work on my photos when I am away from home.

thanks for replying. I purchased online from Adobe and they sent a confirmation email with order number and serial no along with the instructions for downloading. There was no indication at purchase that renewing membership was needed at any time and it's only 3 months since purchase. I have just returned home from my holiday home and checked my home laptop (primary and first installation) and all modules still enabled !! As far as I understand I am able to install twice as long as not operating both at once. This would be impossible as holiday home with laptop no 2 is 60 miles away. When I installed on no 2, i opened the order email and was able to use the serial no again. Now however it is greyed out. I don't want the cloud version and hope this is not what I have.
UPDATE 1 April 2015- I have checked the system info in Lightroom on my first laptop installation (home) and it is definitely a perpetual licence. I downloaded what I thought was my 2nd allowed download on my holiday home laptop using the original email instructions and serial number. I checked the system info on this download and it was it is a cloud version!!!! This doesn't make sense - anyone out there - can I download to 2 laptops in 2 different locations with a perpetual licence??

Create Home Now in WGM does not create home directory until...

We are using newest ver. of Leopard on our Xserve and have some issues with Workgroup Manager. We can create new users and specify the location of their HOME, however, when we try to Create Home Now and Save, the directory does not get created! No errors though, just silence and no action. Tried many times and no go.
UNTIL.... We log in with than new username directly into the server using Remote Desktop. Once logged in to Xserve as local user, the Home Directory magically appears.
What is happening?

Not sure what's happening - you can check the logs for clues.
You can also use createhomedir -a That will create home dirs for all users (and will not touch existing home dirs)

Turn Off your computer. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your computer. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

App type: Video conferencing
Platforms: PC, Mobile (Android, iOS) [If mobile support would reduce performance or increase costs, I am willing to scrap it]
Users: There will be 5 - 30 users logged into the service in the same room at a time. And a maximum of 5 - 7 users in that room will have their webcam's on at any given time.
My main concern is performance, Since I might make it a paid service in the future, I don't think users would pay for something that has a lot of lag or trailing effects.

I have a mac book pro, and I use 3 external hard disk, and 1 usb mouse and some times a sync my iphone and my ipad... It's really boring manage all this usb connections.
