Home Hub 3 and iPhone 4 - Problems

Hi all,
Firstly appologies for a double post, I posted in the infinity section in error when here's probably better, so if mods see it they can remove that one, unless someone answers!
Anyways, Just upgraded to infinity and have the home hub 3 after previously using the home hub 2.
The Internet is fine, more than fast enough, however I now have a problem that I didn't have previously with my other devices around the home.
If I'm on the laptop(s) everything behaves as you'd expect, surf, download, stream whatever alls fine.  However when my daughter goes online with her wii or ds it stops working/locks up when playing online, but the main problem seems to be mine an my partners iPhone 4's. They will both happily surf the net all day long however if either of us try's to download an app that's over about 25mb then it seems to get to about the 25mb area then just locks up and will not download the rest of the app, also if we go on iPlayer, as an example we will get through about 20-30mins then that too will lock and play no more, YouTube is the same, but not as bad as the films etc are normally small. If I try to play/stream the same thing on either laptop it will play flawlessly.
Now I appreciate it could be that the wii, ds and two iPhones have suddenly stopped working properly, but seeing as they all worked flawlessly when using the home hub 2 I suspect it's the home hub 3 that's causing the issues, especially as the videos etc will play fine when I use the mobile/3G instead as a test.
So anyone else had similar and managed to sort it? Or indeed any ideas, I've already tried changing the wireless channel from 6 to 11 and then to 1, with 11 being the best but still problematic, I could try all the other channels but didn't have the time today before work.
As for security settings, its on WPA-PSK the same as it was on the home hub 2.
So basically right now I'm stumped :-/
Cheers, Rob.

Ok then i've tried a couple of things , with only a marginal improvement.
1. Started with a power cycle, left it all off for about 10mins > made no noticable difference
2. Changed from b/g/n to just b/g as not all devices in house are 'n' rated > again cant say that this made a difference
3. Changed channel to a free one after a inssider scan > this has made a very marginal difference, if indeed its not just fluke.
Using itunes as an example again on the iPhone, with a radio show thats 2hrs long, by the time its played for around 45mins its starting to reach the end of whats been streamed/downloaded, which to be fair with a speed in excess of 20meg the show should have finished downloading long before then, essentially 45 mins to download an hours worth of the show is hardly awe inspiring or indeed right. Again the same show will download and play fully on the laptop.
Im still of the opinion that the hub3 is at fault here, as i never had a single issue using the hub2.
Out of interest can the hub2 be used with infinity and if so how do you wire it, bearing in mind the hub3 has the dedicated red socket, if i can use the hub 2 i can test again and hopefully rule the hub3 or iPhones out of the equation.
Going to try a full/hard/factory reset later, but is there anything else i can try first?
Also failing everything is this suitable to replace the hub3 > http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/belkin-f5d8236uk4-wireless-router-802-11-n-4-port-switch-02417713-pdt....
its compatible with PPPoE, even though we shouldnt have to be replacing hubs etc considering BT provide them specifically for the service.
Cheers, Rob

It could be that the existing wire in your appartment is not clean enough to provision DSL only. When combined with the phone possibly it has a higher line voltage and worked before. Now that the line is to be provisioned without phone service it may be giving them trouble that did not show before they came out and ran the new line test. So a new jack dedecated for your DSL line may require a new wire be run to your appartment. Also the account for internet only used to require direct billing to a credit card or something else. This was a number of years ago. Most accounts are linked to a phone number, and without a voice number it adds to the confusion.
If you are getting the voice and everything turned on as before, then I am at a loss for words.

  • Home Hub 3 Wireless Problems (V100R001C01B031SP09_...

    Dear all,
I am a new BT infinity customer but have had about 5 different providers and about 7/8 wireless routers in the past - never had FTTC.
BT infinity on a wired connection works great and I get approximately 65mbps (prediction 76mbps) which I'm happy with. The wireless through HomeHub3 is closer to 10-20mbps and most annoyingly it keeps dropping out. When I say dropping out I get the following:
    http://bthomehub.home/html/hurl/800_auto_start.html
The blue lights are all on the Home hub and my wireless devices still show a connection to the wireless but just no access to the internet.
The very nice Indian call centre woman says its my Wifi going down and its because there is loads of equipment around it. THis is the same position that all my other wifi routers had and no problems with any of them.  I am trying to work out how to move the HH3 but to be honest, unless there is something I am doing wrong, then I probably need to buy a wireless router.
I have been to http://www.btinternet.com/~cbeddoe/forumhelp/speed/hh3replace.html and any comments on these routers would be appreciated.
I suppose what is different here is that I am using the new type B homehub but it is causing me problems.
ANy help or thoughts would be appreciated.
    HSB
p.s. should i really expect a 50mbps differential between wired and wireless?

Its usually the default gateway address that gets corrupted, and this prevents the computer resolving addresses outside of your own network.
You can check this by looking at your wireless adapter network setting and seeing if the default gateway is 192.168.1.254.
As for the choice of router, any decent cable router should perform fine. Take a look at the thread that I reference on my home hub replacement page.
Wireless itself, can prove quite unreliable a higher speeds.

  • I am using BT Broadband home hub and want to use my time machine - Can I turn the wireless router off in TM?

    Hi,
I have BT home hub which is now my main router in the house.  I also have Apple TV which works off the router and a network adapter around the house which is perfect for all my needs.  However, I also have a time machine but haven't used it for a while now as it's internal router overrides my current network which causes problems.
Being that i'm not very 'technical' I was hoping someone could give me a  'guide for dummies' instruction on how to turn off the wireless signal inside my time capsule without messing up the BT router?
    Many thanks in advance
    Alex

    Thanks guys,
Sorry, just to clarify, I need to connect the ethernet cable to my home hub and my TC first before i can do this?
And once i've done this will my stuff be backed up via the cable or wireless?
I know these are probably very stupid questions but like I said, i'm a div when it comes to this stuff!

  • BT Infinity Home Hub and and BT DECNET digital cor...

I have just had BT infinity installed last week. All appears to be well on the broadband front but not so with the telephony side. The engineer installed the master socket in the study where both the phone line and data line are connected onto the outside wall and directly out to the external cable pair connected to the pole, so no complicated wiring.
I have a BT Diverse 6350 corded (Base Station) and cordless handset (DECT) telephone. The base station is situated in the same location as the Home Hub and the cordless phone is situated downstairs.
    i) Before BT Infinity was installed incoming and outgoing calls to DECT phone OK
ii)  After BT Infinity installed incoming calls received to DECT phone and answered OK but the originating end (caller) cannot hear speech . The called person can hear speech OK. Outgoing calls from the cordless handset appear to be working .
I suspect this may have something to do with the channel frequency of the Home Hub3  and the BT DECT phone but I cannot be seure. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue would be most welcome.
    Many Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First thing that came to mind.... but am sure isn't the problem however have you made sure the MUTE isn't on on the Dect phone?
Edit ...If mute was on all the time then the outgoing calls wouldn't work as well so it can't be that.
If you are wondering about the HH3  "something to do with the channel frequency of the Home Hub3"
You can TURN OFF the HH3 wireless signal and then try things.
    Click on http://bthomehub.home/
Then settings and enter your password.
Then advanced settings.... continue to advanced settings.
    Then Wireless tab.
Tick the NO for wireless Enable and at the bottom right of the page click apply.
If that cures it you can then reinstate the wireless and using channel selection move it from Automatic onto a selected channel.
INNSIDER is useful to identify a clear channel.

  • Airport Express with BT Home Hub and Xbox 360

    Hi,
I know this is kind of an out there question, but im looking into buying an airport express and i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360.
My xbox is in another room and i cannot connect it to the router. I have been reading about WDS and client mode but it all goes over my head. can anyone explain if this is possible with the airport express even though i dont have an apple base station?
Im also wondering if Airtunes would work for my speaker system. Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to the discussions!
"i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360."
Possibly. You would need to check to see if the BT Home Hub was compatible with what is called ProxySTA. Otherwise, the ethernet port on the Express will not function.
WDS would not be compatible with your BT. Even if it were, the wireless network bandwidth would be reduced by 50%. Not what you want for gaming.
Assuming your BT is a router with ethernet ports, you absolute best connection for any application, but especially gaming is an ethernet cable.
If this is not feasible, look at ethernet power line adapters. One adapter plugs into the AC socket at the router end and the other plugs into an AC socket near the 360. The adapters use the AC wiring in your home to transport the ethernet signal. This is almost as good as a straight ethernet cable and far better than wireless for gaming.
The Express would be able to join the wireless network of the BT router for use with AirTunes.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express Issues

    Hello all
I am having major issues setting up my airport express to my home hub and also setting up Time Capsule to join my wireless network...
I really need a step by step guide if possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    PC

    Welcome to the discussions!
You told us that you were having "major issues", but did not tell us specifically how you are trying to configure the AirPort Express, or what service you want it to perfrom on your Home Hub network, so providing a step by step guide is not possible without a bit more information.
Can you clarify on this, please?
In regards to configuring your Time Capsule to "join" the Home Hub wireless network, do you understand that the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not have the option to back up large files or make initial backups using an ethernet connection?
In order for the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network provided by the Home Hub router, you willl need to know (or be able to locate) the exact type of wireless security settings that your Home Hub is using. The Time Capsule must be provided with this information in order for it to "join" the wireless network successfully.
Can you provide this information, or if you do not know, check with your service provider to obtain this information? We cannot proceed with the configuration until we have this information.
If you are able to locate the Time Capule near your Home Hub and establish a permanent ethernet connection between the Home Hub and Time Capsule, you will be able to backup using the Home Hub wireless network and also have the option to backup using ethernet if you wish. In addition, this type of installation is much simpler to configure (and more reliable in operation in my experience) and we would not need to know the type of wireless security that the Home Hub uses if you choose this setup option.
Please post back when you have an opportunity.

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

  • Problems with BT infinity Home hub and Apple TV

I've just changed over from Sky Broadband to BT Infinity. Broadband speed is about 37 which is fine and when using the Apple TV I have no problems connecting to the Internet for youtube or downloading films but I cannot access my music or films on my Computer in iTunes. It doesn't show up at all under Computer on the Apple TV. Homesharing is turned on and all worked perfectly OK before when using the Sky Router.
Are there some settings which I need to put in the home hub to allow access to my computer and/or iTunes ?

I has a similar problem recently with my Apple TV not picking up changes to my network until I had reset it by using the remote and pressing "menu" and "down" for 6 seconds described here.

  • BT Home Hub 4 Wireless Problems and My Findings

    Hi,
I have got BT Broadband 2 days back, and provided Home Hub 4.
I have found the speed to bad most time, even connected to directly modem over wire.
Today even not connecting some time.
Then after tested in all the way, I have found the reason is My Hub 4 modem placed closed TV and when I switched on TV, then net speed go down (too slow, even take hrs to open google search page) and today even not open any website and shows as loading page hrs. When I have switched off TV(just done from remote, TV still connected to Power)  and opening websites with good speed and speed in speed test also showing good speed..
I have never faced this issue with previous modem (from Non-BT provider) and Hub 4 modem is placed same place.
Does any one have encounter this issue?

  • Home Hub and RJ45? not working correctly

Recently i had a few problems with the Wireless on the Home Hub 3, so i switched and used an RJ45 and boy my speeds shot from 30-40mbs to 77mbs i was all happy, then the upload part of the speed test came along and it spent forever trying to do an upload test then came back error.  I refreshed the page and no internet or webpage would load, so i trouble shoot the network and it works again so i try again and the same thing happens any time i try to upload my connection drops from the hub and i have to troubleshoot to fix the problem, i heard somewere that the homehub is funny with an RJ45 =/ i am not wanting to go back to wireless scince the i get faster on a RJ45 is their a way to fix this Issue ?

    Hi
All 5 PCs, the vision box & printer here are hard wired using Cat5 cable & RJ45 connectors and in 6 years we have never had a problem.
I make my own cables and they are a bit fiddley, so despite looking fine the pins don't always connect properly and you get all sorts of issues especially if the cable moves.
My recommendation would be that you firstly change the cable, preferably to one that you know works properly.

  • BT Broadband - Red Flashing Light on Home Hub and ...

(Posting on behalf of a friend).
    Good morning,
Having recently got a the latest home hub (recieved as part of upgrade to broadband package) I currently do not have a working broadband connection. Have been unable to get BT on the phone so posting here (hopefully for a resolution).
The Homehub 5 goes through its start up procedure then goe straight to a flashing red light. It has been installed just over a month and was working at the start of this time.
We have tried leaving it to cool down, removing the phones so only the broadband is plugged in and even resetiing it through the procedure identified in the help documentation. Each time, the same result.... flashing red light!
According to the BT website, the flashing red broadband light means probelm with the broadband line. Is there anything we can do on our end or should we try BT again?
    Thanks in advance,
    K.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express

Although the BT Home Hub is 'Mac' compatible, there is still little information on using it with Airport networks. I hope that the following makes sense (I am no expert) and is useful?
Connect the Airport Express via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet 1 port of the Home Hub
    Open Airport Admin Utility
    Airport Tab>Base Station>enter a base station name
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Mode>Create a Wireles Network(Home Router)
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Name>enter a network name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Security>enter your preferred security level and ensure it matches the Home Hub security level
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Channel>choose the same channel as your hub, do not use automatic
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Create a closed network>leave this unchecked
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Mode>if you have a mix of 11b and 11g cards leave the mode at 892.11b/g Compatible
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Options>leave these alone if you want to avoid problems
    Internet Tab>Connect Using>Airport (WDS)
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>enter the MAC address of the Home Hub(i.e the primary WDS base station
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>tick the box Also allow wireless client computers
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>Configure>Using DHCP>the IP address will be assigned in the range 192.168.1.6*and the Subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and Router address should be 192.168.1.254
    Network Tab>Uncheck Distribute IP addresses
WDS Tab>Enable this base station as a WDS>check this box>from the drop down list choose>remote base station
WDS Tab>Allow wireless clients on this base station>check this box
WDS Tab>Main AirPort ID> enter the MAC address of the Home Hub or use Select to scan for the Home Hub wireless network and you should pick up the MAC address etc automatically
    Click to Update these settings.
Go to bthomehub.home and ensure that you have WDS dis-ABLED in the settings. You will have to log on as admin (password is defaulted to ‘admin’, but it is worth changing it!).
To do this after logging on as admin go to>Home Network>Interfaces>WLAN At this point you should be presented with Wireless Access Point click on Configure (top right) Scroll down the screen that follows and click Configure WDS and you will be presented with the Wireless screen. Click Scan for wireless access points. The BT Home hub will scan for available networks and once it has found these you should click apply but DO NOT ENABLE WDS! Click back from this screen to Home Network and you should see your wireless Mac(s) and their various connections
Best wishes and hope this works for you! My iMac/Mac Mini and PowerMac G4 now connect perfectly through the Airport Express and I have extra Extreme and Dual Ethernet Airports for printer and Windows file sharing. I am running OS X 10.4;10.3 and 10.2 variously without seeming conflict. Airport firmware is 6.3

I have now changed settings as you advised from WDS to Ethernet for the Express>BT Home Hub connection.
I know from previous posting that the ABS Snow does not support WDS.
Hers is what I want to achieve, however so far, with the exception of the Mac Mini (untested/unconfigured for use with Extreme)it all works?:-
Power PC 400 AGP OS 10.2.8>Airport Extreme PCI Card>Wirelessly connect via Express(connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Mac Mini 1.4 OS 10.3.6>Ethernet>ABS Extreme>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
iMac G4 Flat panel OS 10.4>Airport Original Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Samsung PC Windows XP(SP2)>802.11G Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
All four of the above connect to the ABS Snow on a separate wireless network for file sharing and printing.(I set this up via help/info from the discussion forum and given it works without hiccup have left it as it is!)
Hope this helps and any further assistance/advice is appreciated-I am keen to get it right since the BT Home Hub is relatively new-UK based Home Hub forums http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77

  • Infinit 2 - Home Hub 5 connection problem

I upgraded to Infinity yesterday, the YouView box was late arriving but got it today.
I have a desktop connected by RJ45 and WiFi, another desktop and a laptop using WiFi.  TV set connected via RJ45 through a switch or hub and now the YouView connected direct to the hub via a RJ45.
I think I lost the connection at least once yesterday evening but did not pay a lot of attention.
This morning I found that the desktop that is conncted by WiFi only (it runs 24/7 ding some monitoring) was connected to the hub but showing no Internet connection.  I restared the PC and it was OK.
The laptop has also done this, showed a WiFi connection but no Internet connection.
I set the YouView box to record a programme to test it but it lost the Internet connection.
I am still trying to work out exactly what is happening, any suggestions of things to check?

have you tried switching off smart wifi, splitting the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi channels and add say a 5 to the 5ghz channel to identify which is which.  then select manual channels for both 2.4 and 5ghz wifi and then see if that helps.  you can give them the same or different wireless passwords
Two probably three WiFi units are having the same problem and none have had problems with other WiFi previously so have o reason to suspect their drivers.
At the moment I have put the HH2 on one of the outputs from the HH5 - I wondered why the engineer did not take the HH2 away, now I know!
The desktop at the other side of the house had lost its Internet again when I got home tonight though still connected to the HH5.

  • ICal syncing with mac and iphone problem - duplicating all alarms.

I have a mobile me account linked to my office mac, my home mac and my iPhone and my wife's iphone. I have been using this to sync all my contacts and calendar for 18 months with no problems until just after christmas. It suddenly duplicated all my contacts and all my iCal alarms. To solve it I had to use time machine to take my ical and address book back a few days and then force everything to update from that machine.
This I thought solved it but now three weeks later it has duplicated all my alarms again. Why is this happening and how do I stop it? It does not inspire confidence in this system if it randomly changes things. How do I know it will not suddenly delete something? It is also very frustrating and time consuming to reset all the data back a few days.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The synchronization between iCal, MobileMe, and iPhone is one of the biggest embarrassments and disgraces Apple has yet to deal with.
For over a year, I have been battling duplicates with little success. Add to all this MS Entourage, which I had to install last year because Mac Mail doesn't play nicely with Exchange server. (My company uses Exchange for our mail, etc.) To be clear, the duplicate problem existed prior to the addition of Entourage 2008. So you are out of luck, Koolaide Fans; you can't point the finger at MS in this case.
After 6 months of struggling and fighting with Entourage (and because there is no native version of MS Project or Visio for Mac) I finally had to install VM Ware with Windows 7, MS Office 2007, Visio, Project, etc. The MS apps work perfectly under the Windows 7 session. So, I my functionality for business has been restored. However, I am left wondering why I have a Mac if it can't provide me the functionality I need for such basic things as Email, calendars, contacts, and tasks. I am to the point where I am basically doing everything in the VMWare session under Windows.
I am very pleased with my Mac's ability to do video editing, graphics, and sound using Adobe products. But again, I work in mainstream corporate America where 90% of the marketshare is still PC/Windows.
In the end, I am hoping someone from Apple can come forward soon and say "This is EXACTLY how you need to configure your Entourage/iCal/MobileMe/iPhone so that you aren't crippled by duplicates and other nonsense...." It really is ridiculous.

Hmm, my lad also has the same phone with no issues connecting to my HH2 or HH3
(my hubs however are not set how they come delivered)
When it's connected to the hub, with the phone switched on, remove the battery, then re-insert and power up and then allow the phone to re-establish the connection.
(some phones can and do fail to 'talk' to your mobile operators servers, thus creating issues like this. rebooting should start the handshake process again)
    Does it now connect?
Failing that you could adjust the hub's settings to something like this:
Change the hubs SSID (BTHomehub2-****) to something simple like hub2
Initially leave the wireless interface type at b/g/n (works for me) or just b/g
Try a different wireless channel - though the other devices would also be flaky
Try using just WPA2 (mines set to this) or just WPA
You could try changing the wireless key from it's default - though all other devices would then need to be reconnected.
Have you checked to see if it's up to date using Samsung Kies?
Hopefully any of the contributions above will cure it, if not I'm sure the guys on these forums will assist you further.
