Home hub 3 droping link

had a problem 3 weeks ago with all devices in the house loosing internet conectivity, contacted BT help desk and they insisted it was something in the house interferibng with the signal both they and me reset the signal and the next day I found out that a number of people i nour village and the next were having the same problem one had been told it was a line fault but BT refused to admit this and insisted it was something interfeering with the signal! 2 days later it cleared up and have had no problems till yesterday and again I am constantly loosing my connection, the laptop says im connected to the hub and the internet but when I try to open any internet pages they say no internet connection, the lights on the hub say im connected, its not the laptop as im having the same problem on my phone, my sons laptop and my husbands lapt top when I try them, whe i check the line it comes up with possible problem with broad band but when i click for details it says its ok! at any one time we only ever have 3 devices connected and there seems to be no one device that makes the problem worse, getting fed up of this now, is this a known issue withthe hub 3? we have had it for 2 years now and this is the first time we have had this problem

Have you tried a factory reset of the hub which often helps. Depress the recessed button on back until lights flash
have you tried using ethernet cable to see if just wifi problem or hub problem

  • TP-Link TL-WA901 & Home Hub 5 connectivity problem

    I've just installed a Home Hub 5. Devices connected via Ethernet & Wifi work fine.  My Vista PC connected via a TP-Link switch & a TP-Link TL-WA901ND Wireless Access Point can't web browse successfully.  Firefox says "The page isn't redirecting properly", IE says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - for every site I try.  I can ping my BT hub OK, I can see the PC from the hub & a directly-connected Windows 7 PC, & I can ping external websites.  Any ideas?  I've tried changing all sorts of settings without any luck, Googled, etc, & nothing I've tried has sorted it.  The same PC & browsers work if connected via Ethernet.
    Btw, the connection setup is like this as I've had equipment damaged 3 times from lightning surges via my phone line.  The PC connected directly is only temporary until I've resolved the problem.

    sure, you can do everything you want with jquery. just copy it into the sub-folder and reference it.

  • Link BT Home Hub 3a and 3b together

    Hi
    I'm trying to link together two home hubs (HH3a to HH3b).  I've followed the instructions from another link I got from the forum and connected them from HH3a port1 to HH3b BT infinity using an ethanet wire but all I keep getting is the orange/purple flashing broadband button on my HH3b.
    Does anyone have any ideas where I went wrong?

    Link BT two home Hub 3s together and extend your wireless to another location.
    You do not use the WAN port on the one you are using as an access point.
    Ignore the flashing broadband light.

  • Bt home hub replacement? TP LINK TD-W9980

    I have seen this available from bt site selling this one 
    TP LINK TD-W9980.
    Over 170 quids.... Amazon selling for over 70 quids.
    Can I use this to replace BT Home hub 5 that I got for free when I joined bt infinitiy 2 few months ago?
    If so, what settings would I need or do I just simply plug in and it will recognise the BT inifinity broadband? Do I need to inform BT about not using BT home hub but using an alternative hardware to use infinity 2?

  • Home Hub 5 firewall rules and TP Link routers

    I am not yet a BT customer but am looking to sign up for Infinity and I understand I will get a Home Hub 5 unit ... however I would prefer to use my TP-Link AC1750 which has proven to be excellent with it's WIFI signal. My TP-Link is a cable version, not the ADSL version.
    I understand the HomeHub 5 now contains the VDSL modem built in (rather than separate) so I suspect I'll need to hang my TP-Link off one of the HomeHub 5 Gbe ports and disable Wireless on the Home Hub. Has anyone tried this? Do you know if the firewall rules can be set to put my TP Link in a "DMZ" , i.e. no firewall protection, because I'd prefer to do that as my TP Link is a router/firewall combined and it will make it easier for getting my VPN ports working etc.
    Alternatively do you know if the cable you would normally plug into the HomeHub5 "Broadband WAN" plug is just straightforward Gbe, i.e so I can put it straight into my TP Link and not use the HomeHub 5 at all?

    Thanks very much for your reply. So I can't use the HomeHub 5 as a cable modem, but do you know what kind of broadband/WAN connection BT OpenReach provide that goes into the HomeHub? Is that straight-forward Gbe that I could probably plug into my TP Link, as it's designed to take a Gbe connection? (Currently it is connected into one of the LAN ports of my ADSL router/modem/firewall device as I'm still on ADSL but was planning my upgrade to Infinity)
    Alternatively, I could connect my TP Link into one of the Home Hub 5 LAN ports, so long as I can designate that port as a DMZ port (i.e. no firewall protection) so that my TP Link will be the only one controlling the firewall rules. Is it possible to make one port, or one device a DMZ device on the Home Hub 5?

    I have a Bt Home Hub 2.0 at home, however the wireless coverage isnt very strong throughout the house I am looking at buying a time capsule and connecting it to my hub to back up work. I was wondering if I did connect the capsule to my home hub can it be used to extend my wireless connection and improve the signal strength and how would I go about doing this?

    You would need to establish a permanent wired Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the HomeHub to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
    Using the AirPort Utility application, you would configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network" using the exact same name, exact same security settings and same password as your HomeHub network.
    AirPort Utility will suggest using "Bridge Mode" during the configuration, which would be the correct setting to use with the HomeHub.

  • Issues with Home Hub 3 Wireless. And lousy teleph...

    I don't know if this forum is moderated or followed by BT support staff, but I sure hope so.
    After coming from Virgn Media for my BB to BT infinity (Awesome speeds btw!) I'm pleased with the connection and, up until today, the support. I now have issues with my Wireless devices on the HH3.
    This is the outline of my setup:
    I have the Open reach modem connected to the home hub.  I then have the 1Gbps ethernet port from the home hub that is connected to a 1Gbps 5 Port switch that connects my wired network together (Consisting of my Xbox, Networked Printer and my Desktop PC).  Wireless serves 2 Laptops, an Xperia U phone, and a G5 Ipod touch (not all mine, I have a flat mate).
    My issue is that when more than one device connects via WiFi, the WiFi network has serious issues: The connections don't drop per se, but websites are not delivered, data transfer is intermittant at best - i.e. the WiFi network simply does not work.  When there is only one device, there is no issue.
    Now, being a techie (I don't mean to title drop, but I think it's important that technical support know that I know my stuff) I'm an electrical engineer (The graduate type) and I know my IT - so I have my own idea of what's wrong with this.
    Now, as my order was not completed until yesterday, techincal support couldn't/wouldn't help until today.  Yesterday, however, I spent hours trying to solve my issues and got as far semi-solving the problem.  I managed to get everything working nicely together when Wireless N is disabled and only a/b/g is enabled.  Great, but a main selling point is the Wireless N and I want to use this.
    So, today I phoned technical support.  I should also note here, and I made this perfectly clear with support, that when the WiFi starts to missbehave, the wired network still works perfectly and I have no issues with internet connectivity with any wired devices.  So, clearly this is not a line fault - it's on this side, aka, the router WiFi side where the problem resides.  Support decided to do a line test anyway - and of course it got the all clear.  He then asked me to reset the router (Yey, again after I had done it plenty of times before, only this time I had customised the SSID and the LAN IP addresses and now they need done again).  He then went on to state that I should receive an e-mail with instructions on what to do next, and if they are still issues to reply to a text message that will be sent.
    Duly, an email arrived.  It began with "Sorry you had to call us today about your wireless disconnecting. We’re pleased we could help you get it working again." and continued on with with this theme.  No, my problem is not resolved!  I phoned back, this time advising me to change channels, and check individual devices to see if they're any conflicts - I did this pretty quickly and disabled and re-enabled WiFi on my Laptop, phone, ipod and still to no avail.
    I have now been told that I will get a phone call between 3 and 3:30pm to see if the WiFi will settle down. huh!
    I don't mean to be such a pain and sound like such a git, but this is not an issue that I believe the technical support (via the call centre anyway) will be able to solve.  This is an issue with the HH3, mine at least, not being able to handle mutiple WiFi devices conntected simualtaneously - all but one on N, the other on G.  Now, I'm of the understanding that this shouldn't be a problem.  I'm sick of telephone support going through their script without listening to the whole issue either or beleiving that I spent a good 2 hours yesterday getting to the bottom of this.  I don't need line tests, I don't need resetting the router, I don't need changing channels - I've did all this!
    So it looks as though I'm stuck on HH3 in 'G' for now until we solve this issue.
    Further information: I'm using the type A HH3; again wired devices are not impacted in any way from this issue; I have tried multiple different channels; YES! I've reset the router and power cycled it; And this issue happens wether my WiFi devices are 1 meter away from the HH3 or 15 meters away.
    Could this be a bad HH3 or frimware issue? Can someone suggest something or highlight something that I've perhaps overlooked or missed?

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

    Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
    infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
    One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
    I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
    One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
    I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
    Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.

    Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
    I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
    Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
    The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
    This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
    I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.

  • How to use Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router(access point...

    Hi guys hope you can help; I am trying to add my Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router (ie an access point) to my home network and struggling.
    What am I trying to achieve.
    I have a fully functioning home network which is working great but the wireless range does not extend to the room above my garage, some distance away from the main house. I currently service it with an Ethernet link from my E4200 router, via the mains wiring, to link to a PS3 there. But I want to extend this to have a wireless network in the remote room so I can link multiple devices - rather than spend more money, deploying a 2nd router which I already have  is preferable.
    What have I got.
    I have a Linksys E4200 router (nice piece of kit) attached to my ADSL line via a Belkin N1 wireless modem-router set to  “modem only” mode (I was using a DSL modem until yesterday but that went AWOL and digging out the Belkin router I saw that it had a modem only function – and it/they worked first time )
    All of my gear in the house is attached wirelessly to the E4200 which is delivering circa 11.5mbps from a maximum of 12.5mbps for the line measured by BT onsite. So  all is  fine there.
    What have I done to try and use the HH3
    Linked an Ethernet cable between one of the Ethernet ports on the E4200 to a mains plug.
    Linked an Ethernet cable from a mains plug to one of the Ethernet ports on the HH3 router.
    Ie as the PS3 was linked.
    3.  Switched on the HH3 router: the power light is solid blue, the wireless light is solid blue, the broadband light is off
    4. Connected my laptop to the HH3 network and loading up a web page on IE9 displays a web page from bthomehub.home/etc etc with title BT Home Hub and a message “Can’t connect to Broadband”. It is the start of a self- diagnostic routine. Answering all the questions I eventually get a Home Hub Administrative Home Page displayed.
    Is there a quicker way of getting to this admin page??
    5.  I switched off DHCP
    I changed the IP address from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.200 as this seems to be what the other threads on this subject did.
    When I went to apply the change a message came up telling me that I might not be able to access the HH3. I ploughed on disregarding this and needless to say I could not then access the HH3 via the web interface and trying to access a web site nothing happened.
    6.  I did a hardware reset on the HH3
    7. Going through the motions again, when I got to the admin pages again, I switched off DHCP and this time left the IP address alone, ie 192.168.1.254.
    When I went to apply this  I got the message
    “After changing these settings you will need to renew the IP address of all devices connecting to your BT Home Hub. Please follow the instructions provided with your devices.”
    I applied the change – but have not yet done any fooling around with IP addresses on my laptop because I don’t want to start mucking around with my laptop
    I then tried to access a website, and failed, but on this occasion rather than nothing happening, the Home Hub website came up  again displaying the error message page.
    And that is where I stand. All looks so easy when reading other threads on this and other forums but it is not working for me.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    The IP settings on the E4200 are
    IP  192.168.1.1
    Range  192.168.1.100  to 192.168.1.149
    Also connection type on the E4200 is POE not POA – as far as I  recall that is what it needed to be to connect to the DSL modem and work.

    I have actually came across this page before - I seem to hit a snag when I connect the repeater hub (my HH3).  As outlined, I have at all times kept the repeater hub connected via ehternet into one of the regular LAN ports to my main HH5.
    But when I connect my laptop to the repeat hub (HH3), I am actually connected to the internet somehow (I assuem using the HH5 network) but under my network connections it says I am connected to the HH3.  As a result, when I go to the homehub settings page 192.168.1.254, it brings me to the main HH5 settings page and not the repeater HH3.
    According to the instructions it says I should "Ignore the not connected page", but I am connected and I cant seem to alter any of the settings on my HH3 while it is connected to the HH5.
    Any other pointers?

  • How to connect airport time capsule to BT home hub 4

    I am finding it difficult to connect my new airport time capsule (ATC) to the BT home hub 4. On opening the time machine it asks me to configure the time capsule before using. Should I be using the ATC as time machine only or should I be re-routing wireless from the ATC.

    Make sure the MBA has ipv6 set to link-local only for wireless.
    I strongly recommend using short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    eg TCgen5 and TCwifi
    In fact if you keep having wireless issues.. with the MBA in the same room as the TC, change the wireless name to TC24ghz and TC5ghz so you have different names for both bands and see if that doesn't help.. try to connect to this band and then the other.
    Use WPA2 personal security.. password 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    Do not hide the wireless.. that is against the code and simply leads to issues.
    If you still have issues.. post back.. does the MBA work ok on other routers or wireless access points??

  • No Internet access BT Home Hub 5

    I have a problem that has just occurred over the last 3 days. My computers, BT vision box, sky box and NAS connected to my home hub 5 via ethernet or powerline have no Internet access, they will  at times see the NAS, although currently they do not. Occasionally they will get Internet access via wifi.  All my other devices,  smart phones and tablets are fine,  via either 2.4ghz band or 5ghz band. No problems here. 
    On occasion attempting to access a webpage on wired devices I get a message that there has been a dns server error. Until  3 days ago everything worked fine since the purchase of the hub 5 4 months ago. I have so far tried:
    1. Restarting the hub
    2. Resetting the hub.
    Neither have worked.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi, thanks for the post. I've just tried to follow the instructions you've provided and on both my windows 7 and 8.1 machines the only option offered is to manage wireless connections. Is this unique to Windows 7 and 8? I don't seem to have the option to manage wired connections?
    I've lost wired links to my Sky box and other devices again. Wireless remains solid...

  • Poor service and the saga of the Home Hub 2.0

    Since upgrading to Total broadband 3 earlier this year, I've had problems with the Home Hub 2.0 (type a).  It keeps locking up/crashing.  Its the home hub rather than the broadband connection, which when used with a Linksys modem router works fine.  
    I've run through usual fault finding and rectification - hard reset, plugging into test socket, countless line tests.  of course trying to get BT call centre staff to understand its the home hub thats playing up/at fault, not the connection, is like banging ones head against a very hard wall.  For a piece of equipment less than a year old it should work without problem.  And I was tempted to go to PC world and buy a replacement modem, but decided to preserve with  BT's 'help' desk.
    Over the past 3 or 4 months I've probably made one help desk call about the same issue each month.  Have to repeat myself time and time again and get fobbed off with another excuse, or promise of call back.
    Eventually got through to a supervisor - after insisting when a call log was closed and marked 'resolved' when we were still having the problems and hadn't had a call back.  Repeated my issues for the 4th or so time, went through what I had done to date (restore to factory settings, checking its logs, etc etc)  he finally consented to send a replacement home hub.
    I get an email telling me it would be delivered on the 6th before 6pm.  But of course it wasn't.  And I did as the email said, and tried to phone the number to say it hadn't arrived only to get an answer phone message saying the help desk was shut.
    So wasted my lunch break today on the phone to BT trying to find out where it was, only to learn that BT had posted it to a previous address which I haven't lived at for 4 years.  Well done BT, it takes real skill to be that rubbish.
    Fingers crossed another new one is on its way to the right address.
    I have however a couple of questions, which as I can't face phoning the call centre again I thought I'd post on here:
    1) How on earth did BT manage to send  the replacement home hub it to the wrong address?  Especially since the original one was sent to the correct address & my delivery address is set  correctly on the web portal and the agent handling the call confirmed the address? - and what are you going to do to ensure it doesn't happen again (dare I mention data protection - as the home hub pack presumably has some personal details on it..)
    2) In the final call today I was asked for my date of birth and mothers maiden name so they could add it to the account - afterwards having not been asked by BT for this before on countless calls  I wondered is this standard practice - or should I now be worried?
    3) How do you have a sensible discussion with someone - preferably in the UK - about the customer experience?  As mine as has been rubbish (you might be able to tell from the tone of this post), and I'm regretting ever having upgraded and wishing I had instead gone to another broadband provider.
    4) Given that issues with certain models of home hubs seem to be known issues (at least to google) why do the call centre agents always focus on the broadband connection -(typical conversation with an  Agent "..so your connection keeps dropping", Me: "No the connection is fine.  The home hub has crashed again". Agent "So your connection has dropped"? and on and on) rather than actually listening to the customer. (Can you reset it - yes already have, several times  and so on)
    Any answers from a moderator would be welcome.
     I am actually happy with BT's  broadband product, and don't want to have to go through the hassle of changing provider, I'm just disgruntled at how bad the home hub has been, and how poor the customer service has been.

    To be honest I have not heard of the hub locking up before.  The questions you have been asked by our helpdesk are aimed specifically at your connection as most problems tend to occur here, either with slow speed or hub drops etc.
    Could you be more specific in how the hub locks/crashes? What do you notice when this happens? What way do you have your connection set up?
    As much info as possible would help
    In answer to your questions:
    1/ Sometimes we have an old address still on your account and this has not been updated for packages/correspondance.
    2/ Nothing to worry about, we ask these questions for additional security.  If you have quoted your account number previously this is normally enough for most things however the advisor probably just noticed we didnt have this info on file.
    4/ As above, this is not a common problem and most issues that come to us are to do with your connection.

  • Viera App no longer works on Home Hub 4 - please h...

    Hi,
    I have a brand new Panasonic P50VT65 which i previously succesfully used with the Viera App ad remote controlled my TV and used Swipe and Share to get TV on my phone and also, images and video from the phone onto the TV. I put my Home Hub 4 in today and since then, I cannot get the App on the phone to find the TV.
    I have changed nothing on the TV and they are both connected to Home Hub 4.
    Please help.

    What type of phone are you using Apple or Android?
    Couple of things to try:
    1) Uninstall then reinstall the app.
    2) Does your phone connect on the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz frequency. It shouldn't really matter but it could be that if connecting on the 5GHz frequency it could be causing your problem. You could try switching off the 5GHz frequency on the Homehub to see if that is the problem.

  • BT Home Hub 3 + Back To My Mac / Port Forwarding

    I've recently got BT Infinity and along with it a BT Home Hub 3 which doesn't seem to be playing nicely with Back to my Mac.
    The setup on the Mac side of things is correct and I can see my remote computer but I just can't connect to them, or vice versa. The Back to My Mac preference is showing that the router needs configuring for better performance.
    I've ensured UPnP is enabled and forwarded the following ports to the device:
    TCP 5354
    UDP 4500
    UDP 5353
    UDP 500
    UDP/TCP 4488
    Which I found listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629
    After doing some checks on these ports using http://canyouseeme.org it would seem that only one of these ports is open, and even then it's occassional.
    BT seem to state on http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12529/~/why-do-i-get-an-error-message-when-using-appl... that 'Back to My Mac' isn't compatible and this is due to a compatibility issue on Apple's part. Frustratingly this article doesn't indicate a date when this was posted. Never the less, I would presume this could only be UPnP related — i.e. the necessary ports won't open automatically. I'm unsure of what other compatibility issues there would be. If the ports are open it should work fine.
    I've read numerous threads in many forums about the BT Home Hub 3 port forwarding not working correctly, is this still true? If so, surely the device should be deemed faulty or a firmware update should have been put in place by now to resolve this. I can't seem to find any recent articles regarding this.
