Home Hub 3 - Slow Booting - min 10 mins to get a u...

My Infinity setup is a rocketship. Needed a change to an 'N' class PCI wireless card in the PC, but it is smokey.....reliable 20+ MB/sec download, 7MB/sec upload. And it hasn't been installed for 10 days yet, and the engineer reckons that the service settles down properly after baout 10 days.  Yeah, right
The only blot on the electronic horizon is that my HomeHub3 takes ages to connect once it's powered on. I reckon that the minimum time form switching it on to a useable broadband connection at the PC is 10 minutes, and generally it's 15-20 minutes.  And that includes seveeral minutes of messing about with the completley useless browser pages that the HH3 puts up ..... giving rickall info except sometimes it changes the admin username.....and sets it to exaclt what it was before. Duh.
Anyway, it is a pain in the rump to go through this grief every time I start up - every time I want to do a bit of internet shopping or whatever, it's taking longer to start the BB link than to find and order the shopping. Grrrrrrrrr....
Can anyone tell me: is my HH3 DOnald Ducked, or are all of the Infinity connections as scrappy to start as mine?
Yours in Hope...

I was going tosay:
Turning the Active NTE on/off not the HH3 will cause IP profile change via DLM s as that is what maintains the synch rate and ithe IP profile is based on fluctuating synch rates.
Turningthe HH3 off will simply drop the PPP session and give you a new IP on restart
However that's only partially true.
DLM as writtten up in sin 498 is based on the synch rates and sets the profiles on BT openreaches ssytems hwoever sin 495 which describes the BT Wholesale side goes on to say:
Unlike other WBC (Wholesale Broadband Connect) access technologies, WBC FTTC accesses use the PPP (“Point-to-Point
Protocol”) session establishment to inform the BT Wholesale BRAS of the Openreach line
rate. It is therefore essential that the PPP session is re-started every time the VDSL line retrains.
To ensure this, the PPP / L2TP timeout values must be set to less than 20 seconds.
ie everytime your HH3 establishs a new PPP session the BRAs isinformed of the current synch speed. Given that (certainly judging by my event logs) the PPP is remotely reset on a daily basis then IMHO turning it off manually makes no difference.
Mind you I can never understand why someone would would turn their router off before going to bed ;o)
DISCLAIMER: although I work in the industry I do not work for BT and any opinions given are purely my own.

  • Slow boot, 3 min. of blue screen

    Sirs
I have read many slow boot, and blue screen issues here. I have re-installed SL.
I have removed the LaunchDaemons, ran /sbin/fsck -fy (no repair needed).
I did repair permissions and received this message:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    I'm running OS X 10.6.3 on a MacBookPro 3,1 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 160Gb drive with 69Gb avail.
It takes 3.5 minutes to boot with 3 of them stuck on the blue screen after the apple is gone.
any help would be much appreciated.
    thank you
    dan

    Hi c,
The safest way to test for things like this is to create a backup clone (CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! or Time Machine), make sure it's totally current, and then you can go in and do things that you wouldn't normally do; if you create more problems, then you can just clone the pre-problems backup back to your internal HD and you're back to where you started. I learn a lot this way (not all of it good! ). I have multiple backups, and I'm still freaked out when I move/trash/change something and my Mac won't boot. Then it's just a matter of cloning back or restoring things from TM.

  • Slow boot 4 mins +

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with a very slow boot / shut down time (everytime). Once booted it works like a dream. I have a mid 2009 mbp upgraded RAM to 8gb and the OS to 10.8. Steps I have tried:
    -Safe boot
    -Different user account
    -Repair permissions
-Remove all startup programs in user accounts
I have looked in console to try and see what is hanging the boot and there are a few items that seem to be 10 secs +. However I am new to looking at the boot log and really have no idea what I'm looking for. I was hoping I could find some help decrypting the log / speeding up the boot here.
I will not paste it straight in as I'll wait for someone to throw a suggestion at me and I'm sure you don't need all of it so I'll wait to hear which parts are useful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

I'm posting the console log between 2 boots ending with the most recent boot? I hope I read that right, I really wouldn't know which lines are the important ones. So here it is, sorry if it's more than you needed:

  • Updating to 10.6.4: slow boot (10+ mins) and unannounced shutdowns

    Hey guys,
I've been having some issues with my trusty MacBook lately and I'm kinda lost on what to do next. Let's start with a short description of the problems:
    1. About a week ago the charger was not working sometimes when I connected it (cleaned the connectors--> fixed).
    2. A bit after that I started having unannounced shutdowns with about 30 mins of estimated battery power left. So i guess the battery was really empty at this stage, still weird
    3. Five days ago, I upgraded to 10.6.4 Since then when I reboot I get this progress bar that loads, looks kinda like a firmware upgrade. It takes 11 mins to get passed this screne (timed it). Have this every time I boot the laptop.
So, the shutdowns and slow bootup are annoying, here's the things I tried:
    *battery/shutdown issue:*
    1. Recalibrated the battery
    2. reset SMC
    3. reset PRAM
    System profiler says:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2880
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3600
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 385
    Condition: Replace Soon
    *Slow bootup:*
    1. Ran Yasu to clean system, local and user cache.
    2. Checked login items and removed a couple of things
(now only have Growlhelper, Alfred, Dropbox and Quicksilver)
    3. Ran Disk utility --> verify disk. It says I have errors, need to boot from my Mac OS X disc to fix that.
    4. Checked system.log in Console, but output is different from what I expected. There's about 11 mins in booting where nothing is reported.
    log:
    +Aug 24 06:20:38 localhost com.apple.launchd[1]: * launchd[1] has started up. *+
    +Aug 24 06:31:50 localhost blued[16]: Apple Bluetooth daemon started+

I know lots of info, maybe two different problems also. What concerns me the most: could this be a sign my hardware is failing?
Im in no position to fix much, since I'm on work placement in a very remote part of Nicaragua for the next 10 weeks :'( No access to alternative hardware, apple stores or even the Snow Leopard install disc.
tips about what to try next?

    Oh oh!

  • Slow booting mac mini..

Hi. I have a mac mini (early 2009, 2ghz, 4gb ddr3 memory). For some reason it seems to boot slower than my girlfriends mac mini (late 2006, 1.6ghz 2gb ddr2memory). Both are running 10.6.7 fully updated, connecting to the same network with only a keyboard and mouse attached. Hers even runs a little faster until you start to load it up with programs. Anybody know why? Or what could be wrong with mine?

The most obvious things that load at login, which is part of startup if you have auto login enabled, are located at Apple menu-->System Preferences-->Accounts-->Login Items.  Unless you are certain that something listed here is not necessary, leave it alone.
To get an idea of which processes are running on your mini that are not running on your girlfriend's, launch /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor on each system.  From the Show menu, choose All Processes, then click in the User column to sort by user.  Any process that is owned by root was launched during the startup process.  You can compare the processes owned by root on each system to determine what is different.  That might help you get a handle on what is different with your mini.  Just because you find a process that isn't on your girlfriend's system does not mean that it is unnecessary.  It just means your system is running it and her's is not.  If you give us the process names, it may help determine it's usefulness.

  • MBPr 15" 2013 Haswell - Slow Boot (4 mins 50 seconds)

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
Switch on, get the chime, apple logo shows, grey wheel appears and starts spinning, then I have a grand wait of nearly 5 minutes until I see the logon screen.
    15" Oct 2013 i7 Haswell
    512gb SSD
    16gb Ram.
Surely this thing should take less than a minute..

Sorry, I did try and cut this down, but I don't understand a lot of this code...

  • Slow booting ( 30 min)

I installed Lion about 1 Week ago. As Long as i shut down my MacBook pro the normal Way it Boots fine and fast. Recently my MacBook froze while compiling a Small iOs OpenGL App in Xcode ... I had to Press the powerbutton for a Long time since i could just Move the mouse and nothing else.
When i tried to reboot i was Stuck on the Apple Logo with the "loading" circle for more then 30 minutes... I was having Lunch in between...
But After this everything was okay.... Now my MacBook went into Sleep Mode and i could Not wake it up so again... Power Button ... After waiting approximately 45 minutes i switched it off and reboot in verbose Mode...
While writing this post on my iPhone .... My MacBook is Stuck After 6 Lines of nstat_lookup_entry failed 2 ... For at least 20 minutes
    And nothing Happens ....
I have this Lines a few times but booting always continues.. The last Lines my verbose Boot Shows are:
    AirPort: Link up on en1
En1: BSSID changed to ........(hex Number)
AirPort: RSN handshake complete on en1
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nstat_lookup_entry failed 2
    nspace-handler-Set-snapshot-time: 1316521201
    Anyone knows what to do?

You should do a PRAM reset and boot into Safe mode. I'd try connecting to the router with an ethernet and rebuilding the WiFi profile as well.

  • Extremely slow boot.  How to get rid of white screen in Windows only boot.

    Hey guys I have a Windows 7 only MacBookPro 17". 2.8ghz core 2 duo, 4 gig of ram, 7200 rpm 500gb hd(passes s.m.a.r.t. btw)
It boots extremely slow. I turn the computer on and it stays at the white screen for around 20 seconds. Then it moves to Windows 7 and continues to boot from there. I have a video:
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xc5taaslow-windows-7-boot-on-macbook-protech
In a windows only setting how would I get it to just boot Windows without going threw the white screen? It also gets hung when logging in on a black screen.
There was a post on Ubuntu forums about Ubuntu only boots about doing something to get it to only boot the MBR. I didn't really understand if this would work with Windows 7 though. Thanks for any help.

I shut down all but one of the extensions, and that seems to have resolved the problem. Thank you!
Now to figure out which extensions I need, and which I don't, because I don't have a clue. I don't remember installing most of these, I only recall one or two (nothing looks spammy like funmoods, but still don't remember when or why these were added...)

  • Laptop takes ages to make connection to home hub

Whenever I start my laptop (including waking up from power-save modes), it attempts to reconnect to the hub - and fails. Eventually, it will find the connection, and then all is well, until I shut it down again...
I can't seem to do anything to speed up this process - this morning it took an hour before I had a connection, though it's probably half that on average. Other laptops and desktops connect straight away.
I'm using Vista, the desktops are XP, other laptops are XP and Vista, all connecting wirelessly to Home Hub 2. The errors I get are invalid key (which it clearly isn't) and timeout. Usually, mine is the only computer switched on, so it's not competition from the others. The hub itself is fine, and onward connections to broadband and the phone line (landline & broadband talk) are normal.
I was also getting random disconnects, but I found something on the net that suggested I disable wireless power save on the laptop - and that seems to have sorted that one. Is there anything else I can try?

I wasn't too sure if that would help
    What about this?
Also have you tried setting the hub so it allocates a fixed ip address to the problematic laptop?
You might find mutliple enteries for your laptop in your hub manager.
My PC and Laptop are set to 192.168.1.100 and .200. This keeps them 'out the way' from other ip addresses.
I'd say the best bit of advice on the guide from jarviser is to remove all the Bt software if you have it installed and let windows manage your wireless network. Does a much better job, personally I never use and wireless management utility that comes with any wireless adapter or laptop/PC, I find that they are all unreliable.

  • BT Home Hub resync rate?

    Hi
I'm having a serious problem with what I think is to do with my Hub's resync rate.
    I have a BT Home Hub 1.0
I use it for a home computer, a laptop and Xbox Live. On Xbox Live, every ten minutes it disconnects and connects again. This doesn't affect my computers at all, but is totally ruinous to the Xbox Live experience, throwing me out of games every time it happens.
Is there anything I can do for this? Everything else I have seen concerns Home Hub 2.0.
    It's getting pretty desperate. Thanks.

  • Replacing my Home Hub 4?

Hi I want to replace my home hub 4 because it has a poorer wireless signal than my home hub 3 I would like to get a router that has a VDSL modem build in so. Don't have to have the white open reach box is this possible? If it is would I just need to find a router that says VDSL after it?

I also agree separateis better but BT obviously disagree hence the HH5 all-in-one    from the early information/stats

  • IPad mini for Xmas.  Can't get it to recognise or connect to my home network. I'm using a BT Home Hub set up in Jan 2012.  Any suggestions?

Got an IPad mini for Xmas.  My home network runs off a BT Home Hub.  I can't get the iPad to recognise or connect to the wifi network despite a strong signal. The device recognises the presence of a BT Network but keeps asking lots of nonsene stuff - like IP address etc etc which it ought to be able to pick up automatically.  The BT Network was set up in Janiary 2012.  Any suggestions?

    hello again,
i didn't really dare to delete the blue home folders before, just in case everything went wrong, but now i think i have so little space that i can't afford to lose 2.25gb!
one thing that slightly worries me is the fact that the 'proper' library folder (in the home icon) is 2.09gb, whereas the 'wrong' one (from the blue folder forenamesurname) is 2.24gb - this is the one i would be deleting. just seems odd to delete a larger file than the one i presume i'm using.
"Move everything you want to keep out of the blue folders, and then place both of the folders on your desktop. If everything works properly after a few days, delete both folders. If you are asked for your administrator password at any point or if either folder is copied instead of moved when dragged, don't delete that folder."
by 'everything you want to keep', does this include the library folder? 'cause there doesn't seem to be much else, and i'm not sure if deleting the library folder would ruin all my preferences.
i've put both of the folders on the desktop, it didn't ask for the admin password or try to copy them, so i guess that's good news. what kind of things should i be looking out for to act differently?
are the folders not in use now that they are on the desktop?
also if i put them in the trash will they have no effect? i.e. the same as permanently deleting them, so i could put them in the trash as a test.
    cheers, stephen.

  • I get home after buying my ipad mini play with it for a bit then try to sync my songs, movies and photos on and it syncs fine. I then look back at the ipad and seem to find on the top right saying " not charging "

I get home after buying my ipad mini play with it for a bit then try to sync my songs, movies and photos on and it syncs fine. I then look back at the ipad and seem to find on the top right saying " not charging ". I read other forms and people also struggeling with the same problem. My computer dose'nt have enough power. There must be another way for me to get to charge my ipad mini from my computer. It works fine charging it in an outlet. any ideas??!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • Slow boot up on 2012 Mac mini with DIY fusion drive

Hello everyone, I bought a Mac mini (2012) 2 months ago with a stock 500GB HDD.
I added another SSD to make a DIY fusion drive, and everything is working fine, except that I'm experiencing a very slow boot up.
I have confirmed both by information from the OS and some tests with command line tools, that the fusion drive itself is a success and absolutely working fine.
The slow boot up happens on cold boot only (a reboot does not have such problem).
Symptom: the Mac mini is stuck on the gray blank screen for about 40 seconds, and then finally shows up the apple logo.
Everything after this is pretty fast and fine.
I have tried the following methods and none of them seems to help:
    1. Go Preferences -> Startup Disk, select the Machintosh HD. (Suggested by Apple in the Fusion Drive FAQ)
    2. Verify the whole disk along with the partition with Disk Utility.
    3. Reset NVRAM by holding Command+Option+P+R during boot up.
    4. Reset SCM/PMU.
Does anyone have an idea on the cause of my problem?
    Best regards and thank you.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

    Is this a screensaver?
    Whatever
Push the power button and hold it until the mini shuts down, then start it again.

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.
