Home hub 3 - Sudden loss of connection after havin...

I have been with BT for about a week now and over the last 6 days the internet has been working fine. Today I had to do some eletrical work so cut the power to the whole house, obviously this turned off the router. I did this on several occisions not really thinking as there was a few jobs that needed the eletricity being cut.
Since doing this I have had bad connection problems, the internet seems to work fine for about 10 mins then cut off for a minute them come back on again. I have done a full master reset but it still losses connectivtiy.
It could be that the line is dodgy but it seems weird that it was working completely fine and now it isnt. Rang up bt who are now monitoring the line for 24h. These are the adsl stats are below if that helps. If anyone has any suggestions on fixing the problem or the cause please let me know!

Is there anyway to tell bt that the line isnt unstable but it was infact me being stupid and turning it off?
Currenlty the stats are as shown. The nosie margin still very high and the downstreem very low. I am hoping this will change over the next few days. I am still losing connection however, have left the router doing its own thing and just using the internet when it allows me!

  • BT Home Hub, Wi-Fi stops working after using it with the Apple TV 2.

Just got my Apple TV 2 and connected it to my BT Home Hub. After playing a couple of songs from my iTunes Collection on my Mac, the home hub's Wi-Fi connection goes down and I have to power cycle the home hub to get it back.
    Black BT Home Hub 2.

Ian, I don't know about the HH-2, but the dropping wi-fi sounds sadly like what I had with the HH-1. Like I said, the BT HH is not up to much ...
You have several options, even if you want to stay with BT. First thing to resolve is do you actually want the HH, for example, to access one of BT's add ons like Sky Sports? If you do, you can go into the HH, disable the wireless, and connect some other access device to the HH Ethernet port. If you want to stay Apple, the choices are an Airport Extreme or an Airport Express. The former gives you a USB port as well as Ethernet ones and many people use it to hook up a printer so that you can print wirelessly. But it is a lot more expensive than the Express ... In either case connecting is easy - plug it into one of the Ethernet ports in the HH and follow the instructions.
If you don't want the BT extras, and would prefer to have something a little less costly than the Airport Extreme, you can get a nice Netgear combo modem/router/wireless unit from someplace like Currys or Comet.
A couple of closing points: I may be being hard on the HH and the wireless problem may be interference from other devices - try going into the hub and changing the wireless channel. Or it may be something completely different - can you run an Ethernet cable from the HH to the TV and try the direct connection?
    Good luck!

  • Sudden loss of link after "getting" file from server

I have used the "get" feature to modify one of my files from my site. While I was saving my changes, I noticed that I had lost all the page's styles -- no style, no background, only html structures! I've tried to repeat the "get" feature to replace the effected page, but instead of replacing the unstyled page, there was no change. The unstyled page remained unstyled. I was able to use the "get" feature to to place the page in question in another folder. My question is, can I just delete the unstyled page and merely upload the very same page that's in a different folder to the server? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I might add that I'm still very much a novice in web design, learning every day.

    Hi there,
Since I upgraded to 10.6.5, I sometimes suffer very weird partial losses of connectivity after waking up from sleep. I am wondering if other people have witnessed the same thing.
When this happens (and it doesn't happen every time), HTTP still works, but:
    - HTTPS doesn't work anymore,
    - Mail is unable to retrieve emails (neither with MobileMe using SSL on port 993, nor with my university IMAP server also with SSL on port 993)
    - Adium X (IM client) is unable to connect to any IM server (including MobileMe, GTalk, AIM, Hotmail, and Yahoo!)
Worth mentioning: I am using Privoxy as a local HTTP proxy.
I looked at the logs in the Console, and I haven't seen any suspicious messages. In the Network pane of the System Preferences, everything looks normal.
When I unplug the ethernet cable and immediately plug it back in, everything goes back to normal.
Any ideas?... What do you suggest I should check, next time it happens, to narrow down the source of the problem?
    Hello!
Same problem with me but i´m not using the mentioned tool (privoxy) at all. No connection with imap, ichat and some google calendars in ical. Web browsing works without problem. I assume that this happened after upgrading to 10.6.5. One thing to mention: i am using accounts with low privileges, same with you, Allamistakeo?

  • Home Hub 3. Constant connectivity loss. Event log ...

Trying to get any kind of service out of my BT Infinity provision nowadays is like trying to arrange a tsunami in a desert.
Time after time after time after time, the Internet is working normally but then a page refuses to refresh and attempts to open another website result only in 'page not found' even though the Internet-connection  icon is glowing steadily in the tray, and when I ask Windows to check on things, it reports that no problems have been found and the connection is working normally.
Except, of course, it isn't.  I am not a technical expert and therefore haven't much of a clue where to start with this. My Vista OS runs with Panda Cloud AV and Malwarebytes PRO and Windows Firewall, all three of which have always played nicely. Prior to switching to BT Infinity, I had 'ordinary' BT broadband via a Netgear wireless router. The service was trouble-free.
This morning, I decided to delve into BT Home Hub Manager to re-set to factory default. That in itself took some doing because clicking on the  Firefox bookmark got me nowhere at all: I had to sit here and wait for 10 minutes before the Hub page suddenly appeared as if out of nowhere.
I found in the event logs a seemingly unending chain of firewall related reports. Rather than read 'em all, I just hit re-set and whoa-hey, after a 5 or 6 minute wait, everything was fine and dandy again. . .
Until, 20 minutes later, it wasn't. Despite the re-set, Internet connectivity was shot to pieces. I'm on Amazon UK and click to open a new page in a new tab: Page Not Found. On the BBC News website, click on a link to open in a new tab: Page Not Found. Reload any of those exisdting, open pages and the reload circle just spins and spins until. . . Page Not Found.
Unfortunately, I can't make head nor tail of the log reports in the Firewall section, but typically they read:
    IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration
BLOCKED  1 more packet [because of Remote Administration]
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED  4 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED  20 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
BLOCKED 40 more packets (becuase of Packet invalid in connection)
And so it goes on. . . and on. It's not even clear to me if the Home Hub is doing the blocking anyway, but if it is, then I can't begin to figure out why websites like Amazon UK, BBC News, Speedtest and even Google Maps should be BLOCKED.
Help appreciated. . . always assuming, this post actually gets through -- I've no idea if this page has gone down or not, because though it's on-screen, that no longer means anything at all.

Thanks, Ray. Just managed to get back on here, there's been virtually no connectivity at all. One odd thing has been that the Home Hub Manager has opened OK. But it is no longer in agreement with the computer about whether or not connectivity exists. For example:
    1) Click on disconnect in HH Manager, and it reports that the task has been achieved and the button changes to 'connect'.
But no disconnection has occurred. The Internet icon is still in the tray in its 'connected' state. And it's possible to go on the Net and briefly open up a website that isn't in the FF cache.   But then everything fails again. Alternatively:
    2) Click 'disconnect' in the tray control and the icon changes shows a bid red x. But the HH Manager doesn't agree. It continues to report that the computer is connected to the Internet.
I'm baffled and wearied. I'll have to relocate the Infinity set-up from downstairs to where this computer is; I'm assuming, I leave the modem in place (the new white flat thing the engineer brought when he installed Infinity)and just disconnect the black HH3 and brin g it upstairs and plug it into the PC?
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

  • Home Hub 3 and 4 Connections Limit ?

Hi All i am very much hoping there is someone expert on issues such as number of connections allowed and home hub interconnecting.
First things first.  I had a home hub 3 and it kept on dropping the signal.  it went on for several months and many calls to Bangladesh.  Very often the problem was fixed and all reunning perfect ...... for a few days sometimes even a week or so.  Then it was back to This page cannot be displayed or 'No Internet' in the wifi connection window.
At the beginning the hub would show fault ie the red light would start to flash.  I also had a terible phone line with a lot of crackle.  One of the 'remote fixes' seemed to cure this and from then on the blue light was always on and for a while the signal remained ok.  then it bagan to drop intermittently.
i also have a connection to a remote part of the garden and run a 40 meter Cat 5 cable from a port on the new homehub4 up to the homehub 3 at the other end.  When i connect this, the home hub3 in the garden receives Internet no porblem but i loose it at the main hub.  no faults are reported and the signal is said to be excellent and 'Internet Access ' is usually displayed.
i can often get the first page but then clicking any links gives a page with cannot connect to this page please check the name etc.  if i unplug the lead going down the garden to the homehub3 I get ful connection back.
I think there is more than one problem but for now i just want to fix this bandwidth sharing issue.  Surely i should not loose connection as soon as i connect to a slave hub down the garden?  it does come and go after then and i will receive the odd batch of email but it is disconnected 80% of the time.
Anyone any idea what sort of a problem this is?  if it is bandwidth, can i set a limit on how much will go the the slave homehub3?  or can i set priority to the homehub4?  or even to a specific IP address ie my laptop?
both hubs use dhcp so i did wonder if there was conflict of IP addresses but i dont see how this can be because my connection comes and goes whereas theremote homehub3 stays perfect connection for skype etc.
Another very interesting aspect was that when i would drop out on the new hub, i could connect to BT WiFi with Fon and got a connection no problem.  Yet that connection must be supplied by my homehub4 so how can it supply me through wifi with fon no problem but not a direct wifi connection when i an literally 2 feet from the router?
that element has now vanished because the Bangladesh team finally decided it was the new router and sent an engineer to test it.  he concluded it was the router and changed it for one he had with him butthis one does not give any signal for btwifi with fon so I am scr___d !
absolutely anything appreciated.  I was an IT professional for many years so dont be shy to use technical terms.
    Thanks in advance

  • BT Home Hub 5 does not connect to internet - red f...

    Hello,
We recently switched from BT broadband to BT Infinity 2, on Thursday the 11th to be exact, but our Hub 5 cannot connect to the internet.
    The story goes as this:
    - The 11th was the last day of our broadband and the day of activation of BT Infinity
    - The engineer came at one to set everything up at 1pm
    - When he finished our laptops connected to the Hub but the speed was very slow. We told the engineer and he said that it is indeed extremely slow for Infinity (6,4Mb) and although some customers do report slower speeds not as slow as that.
    - Late in the afternoon we lost connection completely and a red flashing light was on
    - At 9.30pm I received a text saying out BT Infinity is now live
    - Red flashing light has been on since then. I turned it off and on again, reset it, restored it to the original settings. Once it goes on, the green light flashes, then the blue light comes on for 15 seconds, and then the red light starts flashing. The red 'b' comes on from time to time too.
    - Last night I went to my Hub page and checked the Information page. The information that looked troubling is:
    1. Product name:             BT Home Hub
    2. Serial number:              +068343+NQ43237799
    3. Firmware version:       Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6 (Type A) Last updated Unknown
    4. Board version:              BT Hub 5A
    5. ADSL uptime:                0 days, 00:54:54
    6. Bandwidth:    1044 / 7434
    7. Data sent/received:   0.0 MB / 0.0 MB
    - It does not look like an infnity connection. I checked the hub again, tested the line etc. I even connected my old Hub 4 which is not working. It actually does the same thing my BT Hub 5 does, green first, blue for 15 seconds and the red flashing light.
    - I called BT today. I told them everything I noticed it. All they said, it looks fine from our end, the internet was activated, but yes we can see there is a problem. We will send an engineer.
From what I can see the only reason we had internet on Thursday was because our broadband was still live. That will explain the really slow speed. Once we switched to Infinity no connection. The Hub page shows a very limited bandwith and ADSL...? Shouldn't ADSL actually be VDSL?
Can anyone please help? The engineer is coming, but I have very little faith that the matter will be resolved. Especially after the first one said everything looked ok, but call BT for the slow speed. And when I called BT it felt like someone was just reading a script.
Would the problem be our wiring? Or would BT not have switched something on?
    Thank you
    Evi

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number  https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
you would be betetr waiting on engineer visit and see it he can fix your connection and if not then post back and maybe mods will help

  • HELP! BT Home Hub won't stay connected

Hi, was wondering if anyone here could possibly help, please, particularly with interpretation of ADSL Line stats/errors?
Trying to cut a v.v. long story short, been using BT Broadband with original BT Home Hub (1.0/1.5?) for approx. 6-7 years with recent average speed of just over 6Mb. No problems at all, apart from v. occasional connection drops, and minor, brief drops in speed.
As of middle of May frequent connection drops. Numerous contacts with BT, connected Home Hub to Master socket, new ADSL filters, new BT Home Hub (2.0A), etc. TWO visits from engineers, first fixed a “very minor” fault on line caused by “old connection” in junction box outside neighbours house, but told line now fine, which 2nd engineer confirmed when he came to install new HH version 3 last Wednesday. But since this problem started (back in middle of May) have hardly ever gone more than about 10 – 15 hours without a loss of connection (nearly got to 72 hours ONCE!).
At times there can be 3 or 4 dropouts in 20 – 30 minutes, other times just a single dropout. When it is connected speed is never really an issue, still on average just over 6Mb. Doesn’t seem to be any particular times of day, although obviously we tend to notice more during late afternoon/evenings when more of us are connected.
Ran out of patience ages ago, now running out of ideas, but if anyone has got any, would be much appreciated, especially an interpretation of ASDL stats and errors.  Here are the current stats, (NB Currently connected to Master (only) socket via new face-plate with built-in filter installed by 1st engineer).

  • Home Hub 3: ethernet & wireless connections from i...

I have a perplexing problem whereby the functionality I get from my Home Hub 3 is different depending on whether my brand new iMac computer running MacOS 10.7.2 is connected wired (i.e. using ethernet) or via wireless.
The functionality difference has shown itself to me in the two scenarios below. It's a problem to me because the problems occur when the iMac is connected via ethernet and I want to use ethernet to connect my iMac. If the wireless connection to the iMac was as reliable as everything else on my network (mac laptops also running 10.7.2, windows 7 laptops, iphones, ipads etc) I would be content to use wireless. However, the iMac frequently drops the signal requiring a wireless on/off to get it back. I'm tending to hold the iMac responsible for this and await an Apple fix, although having changed the security setting on the Home Hub 3 to WPA2 only and set the channel to channel 4, the wireless dropouts are much less frequent, without these changes it drops the signal every few minutes. Any input on this would be gratefully received.
I want wired for connection reliability (and speed), but I have a two situations where I get more functionality out of my network if the iMac is connected via wireless. A classic case of being caught between two stools.
    Scenario 1
I have a WD MyBook Live NAS drive attached to the Home Hob 3 via ethernet with the intention of using it as a Time Machine backup disc for the iMac and to be a shared drive for our macbook and windows laptops. All seems fine at first with the iMac connected via ethernet, the browser can see the NAS drive and set it up etc, but Time Machine will only see the WD MyBook Live if wireless is switched on.
    Scenario 2
I have an HP 5510 wireless printer and set it up and HP software installed on the iMac. With the iMac connected to the Home Hub 3 via ethernet printing is fine, however, scanning doesn't work, the scanner and iMac cant see each other. With wireless scanning is fine as well as printing.
I haven't wanted to mess with it all any more, Ive spent hours going through the HP software, the WD software, the router as well as the network preferences on the iMac. It's not making make sense. Anybody who knows what's going on here would be a genius in my book!

Hi mja, Apologies but I'm not the expert you're looking for, but a couple of my experiences may be of interest. I've got a WD my book running as a networked back up drive. A while back there was an update for a "USB" connected hard drive (which mine is definitely not) - this confused my PC -- wouldn't let it close down amongst many other symptoms --with great difficuly managed to disable the driver and sanity was restored. The other problem involved a print server that has a static IP address -------- my HH3 sometimes gives that IP address to other items on my network --------- this stops the printer working. Apologies if this post is not formatted correctly, I'm using an iPad --- not by choice,, All the best Michael

  • Home Hub 3 WiFi - poor connection even when 2 metr...

My Home Hub 3's WiFi has always been **bleep** but lately it seems to be getting worse. Most of my devices are connected via Ethernet and are fine but my WiFi devices suffer problems: poor speeds, high/fluctuating pings, web pages slow to load.
    Laptop (WiFi):
    Speed test = 31 ms ping, 4.6 Mbps down, 7.0 Mbps up Google.co.uk ping = 27 ms, 48 ms, 301 ms, 14 ms
    Server (Ethernet):
    Speed test = 10 ms ping, 64.4 Mbps down, 16.3 Mbps up Google.co.uk ping = 8 ms, 8 ms, 8 ms, 8 ms
My server is actually busy doing networking stuff during this, yet has an excellent connection. The laptop's connection is pitiful, with pings all over the place (presumably due to constantly dropping packets). I actually managed to fix this last night by switching from 801.11b/g to 801.11b/g/n on the Home Hub but that didn't last since I'm having the same issues today. I've tried choosing automatic WiFi channel and switching manually to the least busy channel (1/6/11), and I've tried changing from 20 Mhz to 40 Mhz. Neither has any effect. I've also tried rebooting the router, which doesn't help.
I know it's a problem with the Home Hub since it happens with both of my phones also. Plus it occasionally seems to work fine. Is it just dying? I haven't ever moved it from its current position, which is in the centre of my flat.

up to you but using any of the other available channels does help in the majority of cases

  • Home Hub keep dropping the connection

Hi, getting rather fed up with this now,  i have a HH2 and phoned BT and spoke to someone in India he tested what he could and decided to send me another Home Hub 2.0.
In the mean time i changed all the filters on the sky tv and the land line socket, got new HH and fitted it, went to change setting and password and it dropped out, so i did this again and again and again and well you get the idea, same old problem different day, i do downloads and leave the computer on of a night and in the morning i have no connection, not just once but all the time, during the day at anytime i get drop outs frequently and its really gets on my nerves resetting the poxy hub
    Any ideas?.....thanks
    Daf

Hi, i ran the test and its asking me this
Go to the start menu, click Settings, Control Panel and the Network Connections folder.
Select the Connection that you use to connect to your ISP.
Change the Username to: speedtest@speedtest_domain and blank the Password.
Set this connection as your default and click Ok.
Double click the connection and wait for the message "Connected".
Once this has successfully Connected, click the button below:
I havent got a clue what its on about and i tried, since i posted i have had to reboot the hub 3 times today, not good at all, since i came from a ISP that was better than what im getting and cheaper!
    I am on a wireless Belkin N
Im sorry i cant do what the computer is asking as i dont know how, if you can bare with me and list in laymens turns i might be able to do it?
Thanks for your time, shame BT cant come round and sort the mess out ...pigs may fly

  • Home hub keeps disconnecting and connecting to BTW...

This only appears to be happeneing on my windows 7 desktop computer. None of my other deviices have a problem. However with the desktop every so often the connection will be dropped from BTHub3 and it will instead try to connect to BTWiFi. I have no idea why. Can anyone please help.

  • Sudden loss of connection all together

I'll start off by saying hello to everyone.
We've had infinity installed for some time now. I'm talking many months, definitely more than 18. This is the first time we have encountered a sudden loss of internet connection. We have already called BT and followed all their steps but what the people at the call centre don't understand is we want to know WHY! Not the possibilities, a solid reason. I was always able to give this to our business customers when I worked first line support. We recently had a storm which I think is contributing, since going over everything many times and no joy I have wondered about the phone line. Since the loss of connection it has always got massive static interference on the line. The service updates say all is good, but I can't help but think that page is just nonsense and that it is at fault and that BT are too up themselves to admit the fault is their end.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Thank you very much in advance.

  • A sudden loss of connectivity...

Since February of 2008 I have had my network configured to allow me to send large files from work to home via DAV, DAVS, SFTP, FTPS and FTP (I enjoy tinkering with my set up). About a month ago everything came to an abrupt end and I have not been able to get it up and unning again, so here I am, hoping there will be some insight from you. My set up is as follows:
I use a DynDns URL (epconnect.dyndns.org) which correctly resolves to 98.224.193.135 to keep connected. If you want to try to check the connecions I have a test folder set up for FTP for user: test / Password: 20test09 and a folder set up or DAV using directory: DAVTest / user: test / Password: 20test09. I will watch for activity on these folders and keep them open for a month or so.
COMPUTERS I USED AS SERVERS IN TESTS:
    Macintosh 01 - OS X 10.5.6 / Static IP 192.168.1.136 / PPC
    Macintosh 02 - OS X 10.5.6 / Static IP 192.168.1.137 / Intel
    ROUTERS I USED IN TESTS:
    Linksys WRT54G 01 V. 6 - Firmware V. 1.02.6
    Linksys WRT54G 02 V. 6 - Firmware V. 1.02.5
General network settings - Subnet 255.255.255.0 / Router address 192.168.1.1 / Apache 2.2.9 / httpd.conf file altered to allow WebDav / Web sharing enabled / File Sharing (FTP) enabled
All of the following tests were run both with and without the Macintosh firewall enabled, the results were the same in each case.
    Tested http://localhost on Macintosh (01 and 02) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP http://192.168.1.(136 and 137) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP http://98.224.193.135 in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP http://epconnect.dyndns.org in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP ftp://192.168.1.(136 and 137) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP ftp://98.224.193.135 in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP ftp://epconnect.dyndns.org in browser * - FAILED
Tested FTP for 192.168.1.(136 and 137) in CyberDuck ** - CONNECTED
Tested FTP for 98.224.193.135 in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested FTP for epconnect.dyndns.org in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested DAV for 192.168.1.(136 and 137) in CyberDuck ** - CONNECTED
Tested DAV for 98.224.193.135 in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested DAV for epconnect.dyndns.org in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
At one point, just to test my router port forwarding, I enabled DMZ and forwarded ALL ports to 192.168.1.136 and 192.168.1.137 respectively but there was no difference in the results from the individual port forwards.
The Ping tests run on 192.168.1.136, 192.168.1.137, 98.224.193.135, and epconnect.dyndns.org all connected with no packet loss BUT in one case I forgot and had the ports forwarded to the Mac that I had TURNED OFF but still received a PASS! ***? I am guessing that Ping is worthless as a test to see if the site is responding because of this.
I ran a port scan from the DynDns.com Open Port Tool and all of the ports returned as OPEN using both epconnect.dyndns.org and 98.224.193.135. However I used the Macintosh utility Network Tool and ran a port scan from 21 to 443 (the only ones I need) for both epconnect.dyndns.org and 98.224.193.135 and both of the tests timed out returning NO OPEN PORTS.
I reset the Comcast Cable Modem (Arris TM502G/CT) with the CAT5 cable, the power cord, and the coaxial cable disconnected by pressing and holding the reset button on the modem for 20 seconds, waiting for all of the lights to come back on, then reattaching the router (NO CHANGE).
In desperation I reinstalled OS X on Macintosh 01 from scratch and reconfigured all of my settings but I STILL cannot get epconnect.dyndns.org to connect to FTP, SFTP, FTPS, DAV, or DAVS. Not even my test homepage will come up in the browser.
The following is an excerpt from Comcast:
I understand you have questions about which ports are blocked on the
Comcast network. I have included the current list of blocked ports for
    you below:
    67
    68
    135
    137
    138
    139
    445
    512
    520
    1080
I am unsure what I could be missing. I spoke to Comcast a few minutes ago and they state again that they are not blocking th ports and there have been no changes in my service that could account or this. I also sent an email to DynDns.com and nothing is wrong on their end. I can't recall anything I changed on my Macs except for any recent upgrades from apple and I reset the routers back to factory spec and reentered all of the port routing by hand.
    * Tested in browsers IE 7 and Safari 4 with a Dell PC and Firefox 3 and Safari 4 on a Macintosh.
** Tested FTP and DAV connectivity with EngInSite DataFreeway 2 on the PC and Cyberduck 3 on the Macintosh.
    * I didn't bother testing FTPS or DAVS since the self signed certificate I use is for epconnect.dyndns.org and wont work on the local network.

    Bump.
    Any ideas?
This is a particular problem with users based in distant territories, e.g. South Africa. Our FMS is based in the UK.
I would imagine the number of hops in the connection is a big factor in this. Are there recommended FMS settings for this kind of scenario?

  • Home hub 5 will not connect to second user on vist...

I have a pc with vista o/s  I want to connect to a BT Hub 5 via TP Link to wifi. There are 2 user accounts set up on the pc. I have configured TP link to connect automatically on both user accounts. When user A logs on the connection is made - albeit rather slowly. However when user B logs on there is no connection and user B has to wait ages before being able to manually connect. It makes no difference whether user B logs on from boot up or after switching from user A. Am I missing something? Can I connect without using TP Link?

    Welcome to this user forum.
What do you mean by "via TP Link to wifi"?
You would normally connect directly to the HH5 using the wireless card in the PC, or by using an Ethernet connection.
