Home hub advertising, but intermittently cannot co...

Hi,
I've reported many problems over the past few months with my BB and I'm getting nowhere, can I ask for some more technical help?
The problem is most evenings, I can be online and it will suddenly kick everything off the network. When attempting to reconnect, I can see the hub2 but cannot connect. It won't accept the password, I can't get an IP address when connecting by a LAN cable, I can't manage it - it's as if someone temporarily changes the password and access rights.
It happens on all devices at the same time, so my work's BT laptop on the VPN, my Mac, my iphone, the wife's HTC phone... all suffer the same problem on seeing the hub advertising but can't connect.
A reset sometimes cures it, but mostly doesn't. It can be off all night and then be fine in the morning without changing anything.
BT FON and BT Openzone continue to broadcast from my hub, and I can use them, although they are horrifically slow and a great pain.
So far, I'm on my 3rd hub2, I've tried every combination of settings known to man in the config, I've had it in all different places in the house. Nothing changes between it working to not.
Am I suffering some sort of remotely imposed service restriction??

stats look ok with expected speed for you attenuation.  if it all works in the master or test socket but not in an extension socket it would suggest there is an internal wirng problem.  is it not possible just to leave in master?
have you tried a full hub reset - paperclip in small hole on the back?

  • Home hub connected but can't open web pages

    Hi
Having a problem accessing any web pages. Has been like this for last 3 days. All the lights on the BT Home Hub are on and according to the task bar on my laptop it is connected and signal etc is all fine. When you open browser it tries to connect but never loads a page and eventually times out. Have phoned BT broadband help and they say there is nothing wrong with the line. Pretty certain it's not my laptop as my wife's has exactly the same problem and she uses a different browser and has different anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I have also had exactly the same problem!
I've had the BT Broadband option 1 for at least 3 years now and not had any major problems (lucky me).  I decided to go for the new package (TV, Broadband (option 2), & calls package £18 per month - currently on offer) as I wanted to get Sky Sports through BTVision.  I'm not allowed Sky or cable TV where I live.  The activation date for Broadband option 2 was Monday 7th March and Monday 14th for BTVision.  This also included a new router i.e. HomeHub3.
On Sunday the 6th March my internet connection was fine i.e. could open web pages, get email etc (using a BT Voyager Router).  On Monday 7th I went on line and was unable to open web pages.  I thought it might be a minor problem i.e. back up in an hour.
On Tuesday the 8th March I still had the same problem (Voyger Router) but had also received my new router (BT Home Hub 3).  I decided to install the new hub thinking that would resolve the problem but it did not.  I then tried a wirless & cable (2 different cables) connection to my PC & XBox and still could get online even though I was "Connected".  I phoned the broadband help desk and was on the phone for at least an hour with no success.  The help desk agent said it could be a problem with my account and said he would ring me back on Wed at 8pm........guess what?  No phone call.  I then phoned up again (10pm) & went through all the usual tests.......again!  It still didn't work and I was told that it was probably a problem with my PC and they put me through to another department that should be able to help.  I was then asked what the problem was (no communication between department then!)  I had to go through the whole thing again and was then told that I would have to pay £10 a month (for at least 3 months) for them to do further checks.
Wednesday & Thursday evening I phoned the Broadband help line (same tests again - no notes on my previous calls!) and still no success. I didn't pay for the £10 month service (BT Home help) out of principle and do not know what to do next.

  • User account with sharing permissions to home iTunes library but I cannot add music to playlist created

I have created a new user account on my iMac and set up itunes which will allow me to see and play music from my "home" or main user's library.  I wanted to create a new playlist in the new user side however itunes is not allowing me to add music to this playlist.  I am getting the following message:
There was a problem downloading "Song Name".  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.  Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again.
How can I correct this problem?

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • Cannot find HP printer after upgrade to Home Hub 3...

    Hello
an engineer installed a home hub 3/infinity this morning and left after about 10mins giving me a tiny getting-started booklet, a CD, and a couple of stickers to show my network keys etc. Whilst I can access the internet with my laptop, and iphone, I am tearing my hair out now (8hours later) in trying to print anything!
I am running on Macbook Air MacOS 10.7. My printer is HP deskjet F4580.
My mac cannot see the printer, in System Preferences.
The blue wireless light flashes continuously on the printer.
I have been all over various forums and I just don't have a clue what most of them are talking about.
I have printed out a wireless network test report from the printer and it seems to show the old network name (for my old home hub 2) but if this is the problem I have no idea how to change it. I can't even find the driver menu's any more. And, now i just discovered on an HP thread that there might be an inherent "firmware"(?) issue regarding BT Home Hub 3 and HP printers.
I would appreciate any insights and would be grateful for any step-by-step help, thank you. (so wanting my old home hub 2 back!)

Have a look at this link. It takes you through the set up
    http://www.hp.com/global/us/en/wireless/reconfiguring-system-help3.html
Another option would be to change the new Homehub to have the same name and passkey as your old HH2 then the printer should find it. It would mean logging all your other devices back on once you had done this. See this link how to do that.

  • Xbox One and xbox 360 on the same Home Hub 4

I currently have an xbox one and 360 directly connected to a Home Hub 4 (with different internal static IP addresses  allocated to the xbox units).  I want to configure port forwarding on the Hub to enable access to xbox live and other gaming services.
I have created the game profiles one the hub and can allocate to one of the devices, but when I try to allocate (either the same or another profile), I get a conflict error.
I understand why this is happening and was wondering if there was a simple way to resolve this (without giving both xboxs the same IP address, and only having one online at any given time)?
    Many thanks

    Hi there,
If you are using UPnP, then you will need to use what's known as "Port Range Triggering".
You can't use "Port Range Forwarding" as the limitation of this is that it expects the ports to be directed to one internal IP address.
The ports you need to forward are as follows:
    53, 88, 80 and 3074.
Disable DMZ (should be disabled by default on the Home Hub 4, but double-check) and also disable "Port Range Forwarding", if this option is available.
Lastly, you will need to set your MTU to 1364 to avoid lag issues.
*DISCLAIMER: This is generic advice, sourced from the internet, so I cannot be held responsible for it's accuracy, as I don't use a Home Hub router*
EDIT: Here's a Youtube link that explains the process visually. Although the user here doesn't use a Home Hub, essentially the process is the same.

  • Help.....BT Home Hub question

Hello, I am a new member and hope someone may be able to help me.
I have a BT Home Hub 2 but unfortunately the wireless signal is not making it around the whole house, and this is even with a wireless extender fitted in another part of the house.
My question is, as I have 2 old routers, a netgear DG 834 and also a Speedtouch 330 (USB modem) is it possible to hook up two routers/adsl modems to a single BT line in order to get signals in different parts of the house. If this is possible, I would plug my wifi extender by hardwire into the second router and hopefully sort the problems I am suffering with. I am not very techie, but know a little.
    Many thanks
    Peter

  • Bt Home Hub 5 new update 4.7.5.1.83.8.204

Hi i just noticed my home hub 5 was upgraded to version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204. i noticed the speeds went up a bit and wifi fixed a bit. i also noticed the icons changed in the home network. but one major thing is ipv 6 was enabled on the home hub 5 but global ip was not. When is t going to turn on ipv6 on there network it is pointless in updating the router with that enabled if you are not going to turn it on on your network. When will you turn it on.

    Hi thomasmulhall,
The external network has not yet been configured for IPv6 on a all customer basis. Therefore it is pointless to enable Ipv6 for the external BTW/BTConsumer broadband network if it has not been configured to lease IPv6 addresses.

  • Home Hub 3 Power Supply

I've just been given a Home Hub 3 but there is no power supply with it.
Does anyone one know what the rated input of the hub is and where I might obtain the correct plug?

Hi Geoff, just checked my HH3 plug and it's as follows:
    BT switching power supply
    Model No S018SB1200100
    P/N: 253371437
    Input 230v 50Hz 300mA
    Output 12.0v 1000mA
For use with BT Home Hub 3.0 Type A
    On the HHub 3 itself
    Rated Input 12V 1A
    If that helps you
Can't check HH2 at present as i put this in the loft, these i've seen on the sites as toekneem suggested but i have not seen the HH3 power supplies on there own only with HH3's. BT do supply a returns address if you want to return your old Hubs when upgrading but i can't find that at present, that might help if anyone has a contact for them, otherwise call BT direct?
    Good luck

  • After installed Home Hub 5 my wireless speed drop ...

    Hi there.....
I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I got my Home Hub 5 today to replaced my Home hub 3. Once I installed the home hub 5 all my wireless device has dropped to 10mb!
I don"t know what else can I do coz I tried resetting the home hub 5 and change all the setting on the home hub 5 but still only give me 10mb!
    Can anyone please help

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there.............
I have solved the problem why the speed has dropped down to 10 mb on wireless device!
For anyone in the future that upgrade to the home Hub 5 I will like to mention the reason so they know what to do:
Once you installed the home hub 5 , turn it on and add wireless device to it . When you open the browser on your wireless device Bt home hub will pop up the ' parental guide ' page for you to set up . You can set it up or click do not want it then it's will go back to the main web page !
Because some of us who use apple device such as iphone don't use the browers and use the apps so didn't know that .
So once you went through the parental guide page your bt speed on your device will went back to full speed !! All my wireless device went back to normal around 50 mb !!
I hope the above statement will help who ever going to upgrade to home hub 5 soon and will notice why the speed drop so much and what is the reason for it and don't need to mess around with your home hub channel coz just the simple parental guide set up page need to finish the setting !'

  • HP 6510 / BT Home Hub 4 compatibility

I am about to switch from TalkTalk to BT internet principally due to the failure of the TT proprietary router to 'talk to' my HP 6510 printer (also due to the appalling customer 'service' that I have experienced too!).
Can anyone confirm that there are no problems as regards successfully making BT's Home Hub 4 connect to / recognise the printer.......?

    TrevorB46 wrote:
I've installed a new BT Home Hub 4 and everything other than our HP printers connect wirelessly with no issues. The HP printers (C510 and 5524 Photosmart models) do not see the Hub (SSID) when searching for networks. They previously connected seemlessly to the Home Hub 3 but despite trying all the usual fixes, de-installing, re-booting, calls with both BT and HP I have so far failed to find a solution. Any ideas please?!
This may not be much help, but may give some clues.
The HP 8180 printer, which I have was difficult to setup.
For this model you can only have either USB connection to PC or wireless - not both.
Wireless restricts the functionality or the printer - availability of drives on the printer, etc.
Your model will be more recent, and these problems should have been ironed out.
Is there a reset function on the printer menu?
Try resetting to factory defaults - or at least clear any settings which you have entered, and then start again. I assume that the printer software is up to date.
Also, what security are you using? WEP, WPS. They all seem to be changing and I never know what the latest, most secure  setting is.
All I know is that mine is currently WPA2 personal.
I'm just waiting delivery of a HH4, and will have to go through it all again.
You may try connecting wirelessly to the PC, and not to the overall network, as a starting point.

  • Home Hub 3, Turning OFF Fon.

Hi, I have just aqquired a brand new home hub 3 but noticed the FON is turned on. I turned this off with my home hub 2 as I can't see why I should have to share my connection with other people as part of BT's ever expanding WIFI community.
I wouldn't mind so much if I could have FTTC/H but I am stuck on a pathetic 4.5mbps, which is just less than 3 when the wife is watching BTV On Demand.
Is it possible to turn it off on the hub 3 or have those leeches at BT Retail made it so you can't?

This link is helpful they can also  get it deactivated for you

  • Home Hub 3 Wi-Fi not working

I have infinty unlimited and the home hub 3 I have seems to have stopped working completely on wi-fi. I have re-set (more than once). I had the same issue in the early years with the Home hub 3 but this last one when changes about 2 years ago was good. I haven't used it all the time as I swapped it out for a duel band TP router as it had Loop-Back as was then running a server with 2 web sites on so much better control on the ports etc.
This started to play up the other month so as no longer running a server etc at home plug in the Home Hub and was up and running quickly and well until now!!! I only have one wired PC and everything else in the house is wireless, iPod, iPad, Kindles, Laptops etc. as with 5 people in the house lots of Wi-Fi needed.
So I have plug in a old router from work to one of the network ports but looking to get this back up and running,
So the question is does BT replace faulty hubs as I am still a customer or are they only covered for a year???
if they replace How do I go about this?
Or should I just buy another router as before?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If the homhub is faulty and you are still in contract BT will replace it free of charge. If you are not in contract they will not replace it unless you re-contract. You need to contact BT at 0800 111 4567 and report a fault.
