Home Hub Type A new firmware

I note the following message posted by Admin:
Home Hub 3A firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 is being rolled out gradually, we started last week. This firmware includes bug fixes for the following issues that have been raised on the forum over the last few months (and longer):
Bug fixes for loopback functionality
Fix for dual boot Windows and Linux Ubuntu machines where previously it wasn't possible to obtain an Internet connection if you switched to Linux OS
Optimisation of Smart Wireless
You'll most likely receive the update before the end of January but we're taking our time with the rollout so it goes smoothly, fibre hubs will be first followed by adsl. We'll come back and update you if it's going to take longer to get everyone's 3A updated.
Whilst any improvements to functionality are welcome, I note that there is no mention of a) correction of the 'time bug', which of course has temporarily gone away since the clocks went went back in October; or b) any corrective action in relation to the mystery of the internittent slow speeds through the Type A's LAN ports i.e. wired speed dropping below 10mbps requiring a hub reset to restore. Any information in respect of these two bugs would be welcome especially the LAN speed issue which appears may be a hardware fault requiring a change to a type B hub!

this post by Stephanie confirms that 10mb problem will be fixed in update - although not mentioned in Stephanie's upgrade post

  • Home Hub Type A Or B

hi all can somebody tell me the differance between the home hub type a and b,i currently have the type a ,and im thinking of getting a type b,because ive heard there much better for online gaming, can someone tell me if this is the case

     Hi there,
The type A hubs (of which there were two types with different internals) have something of a reputation for being pretty poor for gaming.  The type B hubs have a differnet circuit board to the A types and the firmware is also different.
Not being an avid gamer myself I can't offer first hand advice, but there have been noticeably fewer complaints on the forum since it was introduced.

  • Installing BT Home Hub onto a New PC with Windows ...

    Hello,
I've just bought a new pc with Windows 7 installed.
I've connected my BT Home Hub but it says it can't find the driver. I've downloaded the zip file from your website but it still says it can't find the driver.
I have already got the wireless connection through my laptop which has Vista on it. I attached the USB (blue) and tried installing with the same zip file and it installed fine.
Do I need a different driver for Windows 7???? If not what do I do?
    Thanks
    Clare Chaffey

    welcome to the forum
you do not need the BT cd to use the wireless or ethernet connection.  the suggestions for the cd are bird scarer, frisbee, coaster etc. but not install on pc.  you should use the yellow cable if connecting to the bub and internet will work without any software

  • Huge thanks - Mac problems with Type A new firmwar...

Since I got the upgraded Type A firmware on my HomeHub 3 its messing my wifi on my macbook pro. Every other device is fine, the macbook works fine on other connections.
The connections stalls for 30sec or so, disconnects all games, apps etc.
    Then comes back on.
Spent 45mins onto India tech support, the girl had no idea what firmware was and kept blaming my macbook. Ive worked for o2 broadband support, i know what the problem is the HomeHub. Problems started 23rd Nov when i got upgrade.
I email and a lovely lady has a Type B on the way next day, took 2 emails.
Seems to get things sorted, you need to escalate.

  • The Home Hub PS3 Remote Play Issue

    The problem:
If you set your PS3 to allow remote start via the internet (a better and more 'greener' option than leaving it on all day) and power it down, the PS3 will turn on again only after a few seconds without you connecting via remote play, after nothing connects to the PS3 after 2-3 minutes, the PS3 removes the option to allow remote start via the internet to save the PS3 powering up and down all day, thus rendering the remote play feature useless unless your in the same house which is somewhat pointless.
Now..The PS3 doesn't start by itself from outside influence, it starts from a broadcast from the router itself. You can test this easily by turning your PS3 off with Internet Remote Start enabled, and immediately thereafter yanking the internet connection from your router. The PS3 will still start by itself, even with no internet connection.
The culprit is the ARP table of the router, which is what links the MAC address to the IP address. On most routers, this is a dynamic table which updates by itself every now and then, by sending a broadcast (signal to all machines on a network) asking for a reply from a specific IP address. It goes like this:
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address 192.168.0.144 in my system here that reported it had a MAC address of 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Could the owner of IP address 192.168.0.144 please report the MAC address so I can confirm and update?
PS3: Wohoo, I have 192.168.0.144. My MAC address is 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Please update your records.
    (30 seconds go by)...
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address of 192......... and on it goes. My router checks every 30 seconds, some check every minute, others every hour, 6 hours, etc etc. The problem here is though, that the ARP table update request will turn on the PS3. So mine gets a wakeup-call every 30 seconds.
This is called an ARP broadcast, it is sent from the router (and other machines on the network) to the IP 255.255.255.255, which is received by all devices on the network. The PS3 will only respond to ARP broadcasts from its Default Gateway, meaning only the router can wake it by ARP broadcast, the other machines on the network cannot.
    The Solution:
Allow users to telnet their own home hub or create a firmware update fix.
We've been looking into getting the new BT Infinity, can anyone confirm if the Infinity hub is the same as the HHv2 with all its problems?

Very happy this morning, after over a year of waiting for the remote play feature to work with the home hub and PS3..it looks like BT have added a fix into the Home Hub v2 FIBRE. last night i thought i might as well give the remote play a go as there might be a slim chance of it working AND IT DID! i set the PS3 to remotely start via the internet, powered down and it stayed in standby mode!!
unfortunately this doesn't mean the old hubs work though (although i cannot test this) so ill still be bumping this until there's an official response. Can anyone confirm that the old hubs still don't work for me? we got rid of the old hub when we upgraded.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express

Although the BT Home Hub is 'Mac' compatible, there is still little information on using it with Airport networks. I hope that the following makes sense (I am no expert) and is useful?
Connect the Airport Express via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet 1 port of the Home Hub
    Open Airport Admin Utility
    Airport Tab>Base Station>enter a base station name
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Mode>Create a Wireles Network(Home Router)
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Name>enter a network name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Security>enter your preferred security level and ensure it matches the Home Hub security level
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Channel>choose the same channel as your hub, do not use automatic
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Create a closed network>leave this unchecked
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Mode>if you have a mix of 11b and 11g cards leave the mode at 892.11b/g Compatible
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Options>leave these alone if you want to avoid problems
    Internet Tab>Connect Using>Airport (WDS)
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>enter the MAC address of the Home Hub(i.e the primary WDS base station
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>tick the box Also allow wireless client computers
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>Configure>Using DHCP>the IP address will be assigned in the range 192.168.1.6*and the Subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and Router address should be 192.168.1.254
    Network Tab>Uncheck Distribute IP addresses
WDS Tab>Enable this base station as a WDS>check this box>from the drop down list choose>remote base station
WDS Tab>Allow wireless clients on this base station>check this box
WDS Tab>Main AirPort ID> enter the MAC address of the Home Hub or use Select to scan for the Home Hub wireless network and you should pick up the MAC address etc automatically
    Click to Update these settings.
Go to bthomehub.home and ensure that you have WDS dis-ABLED in the settings. You will have to log on as admin (password is defaulted to ‘admin’, but it is worth changing it!).
To do this after logging on as admin go to>Home Network>Interfaces>WLAN At this point you should be presented with Wireless Access Point click on Configure (top right) Scroll down the screen that follows and click Configure WDS and you will be presented with the Wireless screen. Click Scan for wireless access points. The BT Home hub will scan for available networks and once it has found these you should click apply but DO NOT ENABLE WDS! Click back from this screen to Home Network and you should see your wireless Mac(s) and their various connections
Best wishes and hope this works for you! My iMac/Mac Mini and PowerMac G4 now connect perfectly through the Airport Express and I have extra Extreme and Dual Ethernet Airports for printer and Windows file sharing. I am running OS X 10.4;10.3 and 10.2 variously without seeming conflict. Airport firmware is 6.3
    Power PC 400 G4 AGP 10.2.8   Mac OS X (10.4)   iMac G4 800 10.2.8; Mac Mini 1.42 10.3.6;Airport Dual Ethernet BS

I have now changed settings as you advised from WDS to Ethernet for the Express>BT Home Hub connection.
I know from previous posting that the ABS Snow does not support WDS.
Hers is what I want to achieve, however so far, with the exception of the Mac Mini (untested/unconfigured for use with Extreme)it all works?:-
Power PC 400 AGP OS 10.2.8>Airport Extreme PCI Card>Wirelessly connect via Express(connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Mac Mini 1.4 OS 10.3.6>Ethernet>ABS Extreme>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
iMac G4 Flat panel OS 10.4>Airport Original Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Samsung PC Windows XP(SP2)>802.11G Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
All four of the above connect to the ABS Snow on a separate wireless network for file sharing and printing.(I set this up via help/info from the discussion forum and given it works without hiccup have left it as it is!)
Hope this helps and any further assistance/advice is appreciated-I am keen to get it right since the BT Home Hub is relatively new-UK based Home Hub forums http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77

  • Home Hub 3

I recently went over to BT Infinity and the engineer who fitted it was unhappy with the HH3 with a very low mbps which he said was lower than my old BT Broadband.  He fitted a type 2 Home Hub (type B with a red socket for an Infinity Broadband plug) from his van, this has been giving a reading of 37 to 37.5 mbps download and 7.9 to 8.1 upload speed, it sometimes slows down and a few times has stopped working and needing the reset button pressed but for most of the time it is good.
He left me with the Home Hub 3 which he said to try after a couple of weeks.  I have tried it a few times and after a short time the speed drops to sometimes single figures or even stops and it is difficult to get it to reboot.  I have tried the phone help line but after a couple of hours it dropped down again.
What I would like to know should I stay with the Home Hub 2 which seems to work Ok, as I am not sure that it the right type and is safe (the engineer said that it was a special HH2 made for Infinity not a normal HH2) to use on Infinity.   If I have to have an HH3 on Infinity how do I get the one I have got replaced.
    Thanks
    Peter

The HH2 for Infinity is fine.
Call 0800 111 4567 and complain about the HH3 not working. Be polite but firm, and insist on a replacement.

  • Nokia N86 problem connecting to BT Home Hub

I am having problems connecting to my BT home hub with my new Nokia N86. I have used the WLAN wizard and entered the WEP code but when I go to connect I get the message 'Gateway could not be found'. I have been using it without any problems with my Nokia N95
    Can anyone help please?

Have you looked at the hubs log to see if it gives a reason for refusing the N86?
It's a while since I had the original hub so can't tell you exactly where to look.
You may also want to ask your question on forum below as it's more likely the hub that needs it's settings changed than the phone:

This isn't strickly true with the hub3.

My (12 months old) Win7 laptop has a b/g/n card and has run at 144mbps - with the Vista lappie also connected

  • AEBS & BT HOME HUB

    Hi Guys,
Just wondered if any of the UK users have the new BT Home Hub?
At the moment i use a netgear router, and my current BT service is 2meg.
The new service ive subscribed to is 8meg,so the router comes with the service.I just was wondering whether anyone has the BT hub and whether they had any problems setting it up with the new AEBS?
    Thanks

I have a BT Home Hub and the new AE.I originally disabled the wirless on it and connected the AE through the ethernet connection but I found that my windowXP which I am running through Bootcamp wouldn't get an internet connection and in any event you can only get 'n' speeds when running through the mac os. So I renabled the wirelss and I am now running XP and other non 'n' devices through the home hub, currently an old minimac and a Wii (and a Nabaztag Rabbit!!) and the mac os on my iMac through the AE. However I have lost my connection through either router to my Nokia Tablet 770. I am still playing around with it as what I want to set up is a multimedia server to play music and Divx movies.

  • How to get the latest firmware for BT Home Hub-3 &...

I have had this new BT Home Hub3 activated last night.
To get connected wireless to my Mac Book Air and iPod Touch, I had to refresh the Wireless Channel in my BT Home Hub settings. The Hub has selected the Channel 11 automatically that works well for my home wireless connection.
This morning, my Home Hub has reverted back to Channel 6 and my wireless would not work. I had to go back to the settings in the Home Hub-3 to "Refresh" to select the best Channel and it has chosen Channel 11 again and all works well.
My question is how could I get the Home Hub-3 to remember the selected channel without me in the morning to refresh the setting on a daily basis?[I have tried by selecting the "Apply" and a green circle with a tick to denote that the change had taken place]
Home Hub-3 current firmware Version 4.7.5.1.83.8.45 [Type A] and I noticed a new one available and How could I update mine to the latest?
    Regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

if you select advance settings and go back to the wireless page, you will be able to see channel selection, likely to be on Automatic (smart wireless); here you can manually select channel 11 and it will stay there.

  • Home hub 3b latest firmware

Hi got the home hub 3b last week having a look around home hub manager checking all the different settings come across firmware which is on Software version V100R001C01B031SP12_L_B last updated unknown, is this the latest firmware?
If not how often does it get updated and does having power save mode on midnight to 7am affect this in any way
    Thanks jase.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Jaseb41,
I think the latest firmware version for the HomeHub 3 Type B is V100R001C01B031SP12 .
Having power save enabled shouldn't effect the upgrading of the home hub's firmware.
So according to your current firmware version and what the BT website says to be the latest version it seems your up-to-date.
If there is a new firmware for your HomeHub3b in the future then it will automatically be upgraded (and they are usually upgraded in batches over a period of time)
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers

  • Can I install new/different software in home hub 2...

    Hi all,
I want to remove/unassign ports that have been associated with games and application previously used, but unfortunately my home hub 2 (Software version 4.7.5.1.83.3.37 (Type B)) does not provide this function!
Apparently it is a bug in the Type B where once a port is assigned, it can no longer be used / assigned to a new/different application!!! Stooopid!
Does anyone no if it is possible to install new software that would provide this functionality? maybe home hub 3 software? if this is even possible... Or, (this is probably the wrong forum to be posting this in lolol) is there a way to hack the hub 2 to run different software all together, Linksys maybe?
It would probably just be easier to go out and buy a Linksys router lol.. but I like to break things!

I doubt there are any custom firmwares for the homehub. As I've explained it's a consumer grade device which isn't designed to be buggered about with. Also, unless the hardware was identical to another device you can't simply load linksys firmware on to a non linksys device, or netgear firmware on to a non netgear device and so on as they would simply not work.
Grab a Netgear DGN2200 from your local currys/PCWorld or your favourite online retailer. Much less bother.
